Stage 1 - Incoming control
Raw materials arrive at the enterprise in the form of blanks placed on pallets. Each pallet is subject to selective inspection of wood blanks for defects. If there is a defect, the entire batch is returned to the raw material supplier.
Stage 2 - Drying of raw materials
All workpieces are placed in drying chambers and treated with hot air at high temperatures for one and a half months. Karelia, like many leading campaigns, uses steam drying because this technology tested for decades. At the same stage, to obtain blanks from pine, birch and beech with other mechanical (strength) and physical (color) properties, they are subjected to heat treatment. Heat treatment is heating wood to high temperature without oxygen access followed by natural cooling. As a result of heat treatment, the wood darkens, becomes denser, losing hygroscopicity over the entire thickness of the workpiece, which allows reducing subsequent structural deformations of the wood by 10%. After such wood processing, the parquet board is positioned in the selection process as “Amber”.
Stage 3 - Sawing and sorting
Before sawing the workpiece from valuable species on the lamellas, trimming is carried out. This operation is necessary to obtain right angles. After trimming, mandatory inspection for the presence of cracks - if defective, then re-trimming the workpiece until a positive result is obtained. This process is carried out until the workpiece meets the geometry requirements for the manufacture of lamellas.
After trimming and inspection, each workpiece is sawn into 5 lamellas 4 mm thick. and length depending on the type of future parquet board:

Stage 4 - Gluing the parquet boards
Gluing the parquet boards into a single whole is carried out on an automatic gluing line. The top layer is obtained by gluing the lamellas to the end without a backing. Then, on an automatic gluing line, the top, middle and bottom layers are glued together into a single unit. Along the perimeter of the entire parquet board, a plywood insert with special impregnation is installed, which in the future will increase the rigidity and density of the parquet board after its installation.
After the automatic gluing line, the parquet board is loaded into a steam press where it is pressed and heated to its full thickness.
This stage is completed by puttying and sanding the top layer of the parquet board. Karelia fills only the places necessary for this operation, for example knots.
Stage 5 - Processing the top layer of parquet boards
Before treating the top layer of the parquet board with varnish or oil, for some FP Karelia, additional mechanical treatment of the top layer is carried out:
- chamfering 1.5 mm wide on long sides. After laying such a parquet board, a V-shaped groove about 3 mm wide remains between the boards. Such FP is classified in the selection as “Story”.

The last 4 layers are dried under the influence of ultraviolet (UV) rays. Using the “wet on wet” method increases adhesion, that is, the adhesion of wood to varnish. This technology allows the varnish to acquire even greater hardness and wear resistance. For varnishing, Karelia uses elastic and durable Backers varnish, which meets all environmental safety requirements, because has an acrylic base and does not contain formaldehyde and phenol-containing components.
Oil coating, just like varnish, is carried out in 5 layers: three layers of primer and 2 layers of surface with ultraviolet curing. Oil, penetrating into the pores of the wood, “seals” them from the inside and creates a moisture-resistant barrier that protects the top layer. The oil used is a combination of natural vegetable oils(linseed, coconut, soy, sunflower) and curable wax. Karelia offers three options for oil treatment: Silky - colorless; Arctic - white; Antique - dark.
Stage 6 - Manufacturing the parquet board joining element
Based on the type of connection element, Karelia classifies parquet boards into:
