Now we will discuss in detail the Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone, the characteristics of which are of interest to many people around the world. We are talking about the flagship of 2015. With this model, the manufacturer wanted to compete with the iPhone 6 and rehabilitate the flagship series after weak sales of the S5.

Positioning

As for the features of the Samsung Galaxy S6, the technical characteristics of the device primarily provide reliable protection against external damage according to the IP67 standard. For example, the device is not afraid of water. Metal is the main trump card of the Samsung C6 developers, the characteristics of the device were not affected, they can be called the highest possible at the time of release. Here you can see an attempt to create an unsurpassed design and surprise with the build quality. Among the users, there will definitely be fans of the Samsung C6, whose characteristics are as follows: the maximum quality of the camera, a good and large screen, and a battery life of one day. Next, we discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this development.

Controls, dimensions, appearance

In the Samsung C6 review, the characteristics will be the next reference point, on which we will dwell in more detail. The phone turned out to be quite compact. Its dimensions are 143.4x70.5x6.8 mm and weighs 138 grams. In the hand lies well, does not slip. The rear wall and side frame are made of metal. It should be noted that the Samsung S6 has commendable durability characteristics, the phone cannot be bent even with great effort. Various color solutions are available. The back wall is painted over and covered by the fourth generation. A similar coating covers the front surface. Each color, thanks to the glass, looks like a metallic, there is an interesting play of shades in the sun. Traces remain on the surface of the screen, it is easily soiled, but not excessively.

The metal frame received recesses along the side edges, which adds convenience. The right side surface received a nanoSIM card tray and a power button. On the left are the keys to adjust the volume. The top panel is complemented by an infrared port that allows you to control household appliances, as well as a microphone (another one is located below). As for the microUSB connector and 3.5 mm headset jack, they also found their place - on the bottom panel. The rear surface houses the flash and heart rate sensor. The front panel is complemented by a physical button, it is built in. In addition, there are a couple of touch keys. Above the screen is located and 5-megapixel.

Screen

Let's discuss the Samsung Galaxy C6 display, its technical characteristics are as follows: automatic brightness adjustment, 2560x1440 pixels, 577 ppi, SuperAMOLED, 5.1 inches. This screen can be called one of the best in Samsung products. There is an individual color setting. The brightness level of the backlight has been increased, in addition, the display is not afraid of the sun. The high pixel density per inch made the picture especially smooth.

"Samsung "C6": characteristics, price and features

This device supports almost all currently known interfaces: infrared, NFC, USB 2.0, ANT+, apt-X, LE, A2DP, Bluetooth®: v4.1, Mobile hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct, Dual-band, HT80 MIMO. The smartphone received 3 GB of RAM with a bandwidth of 3.2 GB / s. As for the ROM, there are options - 128, 64 and 32 GB. here UFS 2.0. Exynos 7420 is the latest generation of chipsets at the time of release of the device. It is made using 14 nm technology. Technically, we are talking about an 8-core solution: 4 cores are Cortex-A53, the second four are A57. The graphics core here is Mali T-760.

The built-in battery has a capacity of 2550 mAh, the operating time is about a full day under heavy load. Video can be viewed offline for approximately 10.5 hours. Supported high-speed It takes one hour. When using a traditional charger, this figure doubles. The device runs on Android 5, which is complemented by TouchWiz. The manufacturer decided to simplify the shell and in this case, it is perfectly noticeable. The drop-down curtain is different from what you're used to in Android 5. Some icons have received additional functionality, for example, a fragment of the network name is displayed in the Wi-Fi shortcut. Pretty handy solution. In conclusion, consider the price of this device. You can buy the device from 44,000 rubles.

If we compare the Samsung Galaxy S6 with the iPhone 6, the latter loses a lot in terms of specifications. According to many, such a comparison is not very fair, because by the time the Galaxy S6 was released, the sixth iPhone had been on sale for half a year. Well, now we're going to do a similar comparison between Samsung's flagship and the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus that have hit stores recently.

Design

Samsung has seriously taken care of the design of its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, having developed an updated design for these models. The front of the smartphones looks very distinctive and familiar, but the shiny metal bezel and glass back instead of the cheap plastic one (which Samsung has always been criticized for) makes these phones the most solid-looking of any other Samsung smartphone.

The iPhone 6s looks exactly like the iPhone 6, with its unibody aluminum body and glass front that curves around the edges of the screen. Apple used 7000 aluminum to build the iPhone 6s chassis, making the device stronger and less pliable than its predecessor. The iPhone 6s featured a new rose gold color scheme that quickly gained popularity.

It is difficult to make an unambiguous choice in favor of the iPhone 6s or Galaxy S6 in terms of design, these are definitely the most beautiful smartphones to date.

Design

The iPhone 6s comes with a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with a resolution of 1334×740 and 326 PPI. The display supports 3D Touch, which is one of the most important features of the device. 3D Touch brings a whole new level of interaction to the iPhone. Along with familiar gestures, iPhone can now recognize the force of pressing the screen. The iPhone's glass screen is produced using a new dual ion exchange process that replaces sodium ions with potassium ions, making the glass in the iPhone 6s screen the strongest of any smartphone, according to Apple.

The Galaxy 6s has a 5.1-inch Quad HD screen with a resolution of 2560 × 1440, 577 PPI. In addition to the size, it is difficult to draw any conclusions, let's wait for comments from experts.

Processor and RAM

iPhone 6s is equipped with a new 1.85 GHz A9 processor with an integrated co-processor and 2 GB of RAM.

The Galaxy S6 is powered by Samsung's Exynos 7 Octa 7420 chip, which is based on a quad-core 1.5GHz Cortex-A53 and a quad-core 2.1GHz Cortex-A57.

While the iPhone only has a 1.85GHz dual-core processor, it still outperforms the Galaxy S6 in single-core benchmarks with a score of 2448 compared to the Galaxy S6's 1213. The multi-core performance of the iPhone 6s and the flagship from Samsung are almost the same.

Single-core performance is probably the most important performance characteristic of a smartphone. The speed of any application depends primarily on this characteristic, while multi-core affects only some applications.

Camera

Both devices have very advanced cameras. The Galaxy S6 comes with a 16-megapixel camera with 4K video support, while the iPhone 6s has a 12-megapixel camera.

The Galaxy S6's camera sensor has a larger aperture, thus giving it an advantage over the iPhone 6s in low-light shooting. The Samsung camera also has Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), which is only available on the iPhone 6s Plus.

Apple smartphones traditionally have very high quality cameras. One of the reasons to choose an iPhone over an Android device has always been the former having the best camera. However, things have changed in the last couple of years, Android OEMs have started to work better, and as a result, Android smartphone cameras sometimes even outperform their iPhone counterparts.

One of the main features of the iPhone 6s - Live Photos, animated photos, quite an interesting thing. Some believe that it is only needed to increase sales, but people with children very quickly realize the value of this feature. If Samsung adds a similar feature to their phones, it won't come as a surprise to anyone.

Battery

Undoubtedly, one of the most important things to consider when choosing a smartphone is the duration of its operation. The Galaxy S6 comes with a 2550 mAh battery, which is much more than the 1715 mAh of the iPhone 6s. But despite Samsung's claims that the Galaxy S6's battery is better than the iPhone 6s' battery, reviews of the former are quite negative: some users can't squeeze more than three hours out of the Galaxy S6 in active mode.

Price

The Galaxy S6 was originally priced at $672 at launch, but prices have since dropped and the smartphone now costs $576 in its most basic 32GB package.

The iPhone 6s costs a bit more, starting at $649 for the 16GB model, but unlike Samsung, Apple isn't likely to drop that in the near future.
Thus, you can buy the Galaxy S6 at a better price and, moreover, with twice the hard drive capacity.

Technical specifications

Below is a more detailed comparison of the two flagships.

Conclusion

Interestingly, Samsung is following in the footsteps of Apple, abandoning such features as a removable battery, microSD slot and water resistance. The company's most dedicated fans were less than enthusiastic about the move, as these features were the reason why Samsung devices can be preferred to Apple smartphones.

Pros of the iPhone 6s

  • Performance
  • 3D Touch
  • Tight integration of hardware and software
  • Support

Pros of the Samsung Galaxy S6

  • Photographing in low light, OIS
  • Wireless charger
  • fast charging

The key advantages of the iPhone 6s over the Galaxy S6 are speed, 3D Touch (in my opinion, the most important feature), ease of use due to the competent integration of software, hardware and design, and technical support, which is generally the most underestimated aspect in choosing a smartphone. On the other hand, Android is much more flexible and customizable, making it more interesting for tech-savvy buyers.

The Galaxy S6 has a slightly better camera (in low light) and innovative features such as wireless charging and fast charging, respectively, allowing you to charge your device without a cable and charge up to 50% in 30 minutes and 100% in 100 minutes (iPhone 6s takes 180 minutes). for a full charge).

I hope the review was honest and did not look directed towards the iPhone 6s, which I personally still prefer. Express your criticism in the comments, if it is constructive, I will gladly make corrections to the post.

Introduction

It has become a good tradition to compare products of the same type, which not only perform in the same class, but borrow a lot from each other, as a result, they are perceived on the same level. In a detailed review-comparison, I would like to dwell on both trifles and basic things in order to move from the private to the general, to what each of these phones can give. I will focus not just on technical characteristics, they are useless in isolation from use cases, but on what and how you can do on these phones. What are the benefits of working with them.

If you already know that the iPhone is the best phone or the Galaxy is superior to the iPhone, then close the page and save your nerves. Fans of this or that device should definitely not read a weighted text, where all the possibilities of devices are considered with examples and everything is illustrated with detailed calculations. Having made such a reservation, let's proceed to the consideration of devices.

An important addition. Everywhere I look at the EDGE model, but apart from the curved screen, as well as the price, it has no differences from the Galaxy S6, so you can safely extend all the reasoning to this device. In the conclusions, we will consider it from the point of view of price / quality ratio, but the EDGE model will always appear in the text as the closest in positioning to the iPhone 6s.

Case dimensions, weight, materials and design

Discussing other people's tastes is a thankless task. Some people like one thing, some like another, so let's leave the design aside and focus on the quality of execution and the practical consequences of this.

Samsung switched to 7000 series aluminum alloy, the same material later used in the iPhone 6s. Interestingly, with comparable body sizes, the iPhone weighs 143 grams versus 132 grams for EDGE. But the sizes differ as follows:

  • iPhone 6s - 138.3x67.1x7.1mm
  • Galaxy S6 Edge - 142.1 x 70.1 x 7.0mm

In the hand, both devices lie well, the rounded edge cuts into the EDGE at first, but you quickly get used to it. I often hear that these devices are slippery, but I have never had such problems. Those who do not like the EDGE side face can look at the regular S6. It feels in the hand as similar as possible to the same iPhone, there are no differences.

Often users of the previous iPhone 6 say that the 6s has become heavier and this is noticeable in the hand. It's true, the center of gravity is located in such a way that the phone is perceived as weighty, this is a subjective impression, in grams the differences are not so huge.

The back cover on EDGE is covered with glass, the metallic color plays in the sun, fingerprints are not visible on it (only in certain lighting conditions). Glass Corning Gorilla Glass 4, it is resistant to falls and does not break even when falling on asphalt from a height of one and a half meters, although it’s a matter of your luck here, you can break glass even from ten centimeters.

The iPhone 6s uses a metal back with inserts for antennas, this design looks different, there is no metallic reflection effect, and here we again enter the territory of what and who likes it more. A matter of taste. From a household point of view, both devices have exactly the same strength and resistance to external influences.

Now let's move on to the front side of the devices, namely the glass that covers the display. Samsung uses Corning Gorillla Glass 4, the latest generation of design from Corning, which has maximum strength, drop resistance and also scratch resistance. Many people take scratch resistance as a statement that there can be no scratches at all and the phone can be safely carried with keys. Unfortunately, this is not the case, no one is immune from the appearance of small scratches. On my phone for several months of daily use, they appeared, and this is absolutely normal.

The iPhone 6s has mineral tempered glass. I often had to read on various resources that glass from Corning is also installed here, but there is simply no evidence for this. There is no list of products on the Apple manufacturer's website, you can find the list itself.

Another point is that the glass behaves exactly the same as on the iPhone 6, it has less resistance to scratches, for example, in my pocket and without keys, there was such a long scratch from the second phone. Nobody scratched the phone on purpose.

It is also known that the mineral glass on the iPhone does not tolerate drops even from a small height, its strength is much inferior to that of Gorilla Glass. The main problem with the iPhone when it falls is a broken screen; in EDGE from the same height, it often does without damage at all. Unfortunately, Apple can't access Corning's technologies because Samsung is a co-owner of the company. The result is slightly worse characteristics of the device in everyday use. Screen replacement is the most expensive operation for any phone, so be careful with them. On the other hand, no one thinks that it is their phone that will fall and break.

In this video, you can see how the 6s screen usually breaks when falling from a small height, everything is quite revealing. Let me remind you that such videos are always a game of probability, you can break the phone even when hitting the carpet. Another thing is that the iPhone 6/6s is guaranteed to break when dropped, and this is already a proven fact, but EDGE/S6, on the contrary, is harder to break.

According to the body materials between these devices, there is almost complete parity, the difference is that the iPhone 6s is a little more fragile due to mineral glass. But everything else is the same. As well as the ergonomics of the devices is comparable, EDGE wins in screen diagonal with almost the same size and less weight.

I love both devices, they have no compromise in terms of materials, they are the best you can find on the market today.

The fingerprint is implemented in the same way in these models, reacts to touch, does not work on a wet surface. The unlocking speed is about the same, there is no difference in daily life.

Screen comparison - 4.7 inches vs 5.1 inches

Let's take a look at the table that shows the characteristics of the screens and compare them on paper.

Samsung consistently improves its own screens, reduces their power consumption and makes them better in all aspects of work. The company is a technological leader in this field. Even a comparison of characteristics on paper shows that the screen resolution and its diagonal are larger, the brightness of the backlight is higher, which allows you to read on the screen even in bright sunlight or see the picture in the viewfinder in the form in which it will then be displayed in the gallery after you take a picture. Apple does not have these technologies, and the company has nowhere to acquire them. The difference between devices in this aspect is huge, it can be safely described as a difference of several generations, read years. This situation has been persisting for a couple of years, in different products of companies, the gap at Apple cannot be reduced in any way.

In everyday use, if you don't directly compare the screens, you will most likely be satisfied with both the first and second devices. Moreover, I will say a seditious thought - if you switch to these devices from models of previous seasons, then the improvement in the quality of the screen will become noticeable in any case. But if you are still going to compare them directly and choose which is better, then you should remember a few serious differences. In EDGE, as well as in all devices with SuperAMOLED, there is a setting to improve brightness depending on the conditions (conditions mean both external lighting and the content you are watching). For example, in the browser, when viewing pages, the white color on the iPhone will be different, but on Note it gives off a little yellowness - this is not a screen problem at all, but the initial setting, which was made to reduce eye fatigue and increase the device's operating time.

The marketing term Retina means that in an outstretched hand, you, having 100% vision, will not be able to see the screen grids, that is, individual dots. Both devices fit this definition well. But the overall impression of the texts in the browser on EDGE is better, the fonts are smoother - you can see it easily in the photo, in real life you can't distinguish it, even looking closely. But there is a difference, and it is felt.

Apple iPhone 6s / Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Operating time - battery

You can’t directly compare the operating time of devices based on battery capacity, because the operating time depends on processor performance, screen time and brightness of its backlight, and other characteristics of the phone. Historically, the iPhone has been thought to be a smartphone that lasts a long time. Typically, it was based on the fact that the small iPhone screen did not consume as much power, while Android smartphones had gone far in both resolution and diagonal. In 2015, these parameters were partially leveled, the power consumption in the iPhone is lower for many tasks, but the battery is also smaller.

Battery capacity in 6s - 1750 mAh (Li-Pol), in EDGE - 2600 mAh. The difference is big, but is it really that big in real life? I want to make a reservation right away that the utility that is in iOS9 and shows the device’s operating time for the last 24 hours is almost not applicable in order to estimate the real operating time, in Android the system utility that shows energy consumption is much better and more informative. What's more, Apple traditionally misleads consumers by showing battery life as the sum of screen time and background activity, which in years past led many to believe that 6-7 hours was screen time. Actually, it is not. However, you can calculate the screen time yourself, summing up each line, and see how long the phone worked.

Video playback time on iPhone is up to 10 hours, on EDGE - about 12.5 hours. With the same screen brightness settings. But such a head-on comparison is rather artificial, since in life we use different features of the phone, write messages, make calls, connect a headset to the device and listen to music.

For almost three weeks, I used these two devices daily, trying to provide approximately comparable loading. The task is not the easiest, day after day I changed SIM-cards in order to create approximately the same conditions. And here are the conclusions I came to.

First, the runtimes for these two devices are about the same in real use scenarios. The EDGE gain in some scenarios (video, data transmission) is not stunning, it is described as a 20-25% increase in operating time. For example, this can be seen when distributing the Internet to other devices. With an average load of smartphones, they will work from morning to evening, with heavy use in the tail and mane, they will last until lunch. The impression is that they are very close in terms of work time, it is impossible to name a clear winner here.

Secondly, it is worth noting that when not using phones, the iPhone will show the best operating time, it actually freezes and does nothing. Therefore, if your phone is lying for a long time (a week or so), then you will like the iPhone. This is a flaw rather than Android, which constantly tries to transfer something in the background.

Of the minuses of the iPhone, I note a very long charge, 2-2.5 hours to full capacity. Of course, you can take an iPad charger, but this will negatively affect battery capacity and battery life. EDGE has fast adaptive charging (respectively charger included). In 15 minutes, you can get 25 percent of the charge, which is convenient and allows you to charge the device on the go, in those moments when you find yourself near a power outlet. Complete freedom with charging indulges, I have lost the habit of charging the phone at night, now I do it only as needed and when it is convenient for me.

The presence of built-in wireless charging is also a big plus, there is nothing like that in the iPhone. This is, of course, an additional option, and it is not the most important, but sometimes in public places where there are such chargers, this allows you to recharge the device in a short time.

In iOS9, power saving settings appeared, they cut off data transfer, make the interface slower, in a word, they remove everything unnecessary. But they cannot dramatically increase the operating time. The EDGE has several power-saving modes and in the extreme we get hours of use for calls and SMS as the screen fades to grayscale and consumes almost no power. For an IPS display in an iPhone, this is simply not possible.

Another point worth mentioning. In the iPhone 6s on a Samsung processor, the operating time is noticeably shorter, you can read about this in detail.

My device has a processor manufactured by TSMC, so the comparability of models in terms of working time with EDGE applies only to this configuration. If you have an iPhone 6s with a Samsung processor, it will run 15-20 percent less. It is worth remembering this.

Performance, chipsets, RAM

I don't know people who buy phones without regard to their cost. It so happened that Apple fans are very proud of how the processors in the iPhone are optimized, how many virtual parrots they show in virtual tests and how they outperform other solutions in terms of performance per processor core. But the problem is that a person buys a complete solution, which already has so many processor cores and such and such performance. It is the choice of each company how to optimize their device - focus on optimizing old hardware and achieve high performance through the OS (Apple) or create the most productive solution that is powerful enough for any task (Samsung).

If the difference in the filling would also be reflected in the cost of the solution, then any comparisons would be appropriate. But in a situation where a hardware richer solution costs less, there is no point in complaining that the performance in virtual parrots is somehow different. This is just nonsense that is of interest to a very limited circle of people who are trying to show that their favorite manufacturer is better. This approach has nothing to do with real use cases.

In real life, the performance of these two solutions has no or almost no difference. The speed of opening applications is about the same. The implementation of RAM is different, so the iPhone has a limit on the number of open tabs in the browser, there cannot be a hundred or so, as is allowed on Android. Do you need so many tabs? It depends on you. The latest versions of Android use reloading applications when opened from memory, they are restored to the same state as they were. But often this takes time. On iPhone, recent apps load faster, unless you're running something gluttonous. In everyday life, the difference is almost imperceptible, unless you sit with a stopwatch in your hand.

Now an important note regarding iOS9. In 2014, I wrote that the quality of iOS, starting from version 7, has been consistently declining, in version 8 we have already seen a sufficient number of shortcomings, it was not accepted in the best way. But the 9th version eclipsed everything that came before. At the moment, my iPhone 6s is already running version 9.1, but a bunch of small and not-so-great problems have not been fixed. What are at least missing signals for messages in different programs, they are, then they are not. This is a basic feature that any phone has, and it works there. There is a lottery right there, sometimes there is a sound, sometimes it disappears. Software error. As one iPhone fan wrote, he developed the habit of checking his phone for messages every 15 minutes. I think it's idiotic.

There is also a problem with CapsLock, when the letters in the keyboard jump randomly. It can't be fixed for a long time.

With the release of 9.1, which was supposed to remove many of the problems, they only got worse. Visual glitches began to appear in the interface, overlapping windows.

An example of how the mail works on my phone, although it's more likely to say that it does not work.

Well, the cherry can be considered the fact that when Wi-Fi is on, the phone often downloads data via the mobile network. The iOS9 version is just something, and its quality is far from anything that can be called a stable system. Unfortunately, I can't compare it with Android 5.1 on EDGE, because on the latter I always hear notifications, the interface is not buggy and there are no other “little things”. Here it should be noted that ignoring the basic principles of software development by Apple, which they had in the past years, led to such sad consequences. While the fans of the company defend it, promising that everything will be fixed soon, ordinary people begin to wonder if the king is naked. It is impossible to describe iOS9 in any words, it's just a disaster.

Cameras, photo quality comparison

I'll start with the front camera. For the first time, the iPhone received a new front camera with a higher resolution, it is 5 megapixels. Exactly the same camera resolution in Samsung, but there are a few differences. For example, Samsung traditionally has a customizable Beauty Face feature that removes skin imperfections and can make your face look glossy.

iPhone 6S Galaxy S6 Edge

The girls are just delighted with this opportunity, they really like it. Everyone else, I think, does not care, unless you love to take selfies.

When recording video on the front camera, the quality is approximately comparable, it does not differ dramatically.

  • Front camera sample video (Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge) (MP4, 26 MB) >>>
  • Front camera video sample (Apple iPhone 6S) (MP4, 26 MB) >>>

For the iPhone, the new front-facing camera is a huge step forward, as cameras have been mediocre in quality until recently. Now they are at the market level, but no more.

Now let's look at the main camera, they differ in resolution, Samsung has a 16 megapixel matrix, iPhone has 12 megapixels. But, as you know, it is not the resolution that determines the quality of the images, but the algorithm for processing information from the matrix. From the point of view of everyday use, pictures from iPhone and EDGE will be comparable in most cases, the slight superiority of EDGE on the phone screen will not be noticeable in any way, and on a PC almost no one considers pictures. The pictures from the iPhone contain less information, they can not be zoomed in the same way as those from the EDGE, but, again, few people need this. When applied to the phone or social networks, both devices give quite tolerable, high-quality pictures, they can be evaluated at the same level. If you dig into the details, it turns out that there are more opportunities on EDGE, you can set up your camera mode (Pro Mode), select each of the settings and get fundamentally different photos. It's like the automatic mode on soap dishes, where you point the camera and shoot, compare with a professional camera, the second is needed by units, as well as get a high-quality result, they usually cannot, they simply do not know how. I emphasize that the extended camera capabilities in EDGE may not be used, "point and shoot" also works here.

I suggest looking at the photos at night and during the day, I'm sure that you won't see much difference.

iPhone 6S Galaxy S6 Edge

As before, I act as an advocate for the iPhone, that is, I interpret any comparison in its favor, even where there is a small loss. The reason for this is to offset the fact that I use EDGE on a daily basis and know the product well.

Communication options

Formally, we again face a two-world approach - one has Apple using standard and open technologies, but turning them into closed options that are incompatible with other platforms. And there is Android, where everything is implemented as conveniently as possible.

The iPhone has an NFC chip, but it is used only for ApplePay payments (works in a limited number of places and not in Russia). Accordingly, it is impossible to use NFC to manage tags, pair with accessories with one touch, for example, with an external wireless speaker or headset, on the iPhone. A very convenient technology, but it is not in the iPhone - it is present in EDGE.

Another point is the standards, EDGE uses Bluetooth 4.1, which has better control of external devices. As a result, they will last longer on a single charge. The iPhone is very clever with Bluetooth, so every OS update is like a minefield, problems often start where there were none.

Samsung devices, and Note is no exception, are completely omnivorous, they work with all devices, and there are no problems as such.

I also note that Wi-Fi Direct support allows you to transfer large files to other devices, including smartphones. The implementation of AirDrop is much worse from all points of view, and it is much more difficult to set it up. It either works, or you just suffer, not understanding what you are doing wrong.

From the point of view of the noise reduction system, these are equivalent devices, two microphones and approximately the same location, the algorithm of operation. There were no problems while using the phones.

Radiation level, SAR value

Both devices work on the same Russian networks, it is interesting to see what the level of radiation is, namely the SAR value. You can see the value for the iPhone 6s for Russia at this link.

For EDGE, SAR data can be found at .

Traditionally, the radio part of the iPhone emits more, this has already become a tradition. It has not been scientifically proven how radiation affects the human body, we can only say that this parameter is twice as large in the iPhone. Please note that if you are worried and know for sure that the radiation is harmful, then you should use a headset and, if possible, do not carry the phone in your pockets. And it is desirable to completely abandon it.

Issue price and final conclusions

Comparing these flagships, I always interpreted any discrepancies in favor of the iPhone, as they say about the examiners, I pulled it by the ears. Someone will say that the iPhone does not need it, but I do not agree. In many small things, this product loses, and the number of such small things is great, if they are combined.

Unfortunately, there is not a single technology in the iPhone 6s that would make the use of this device different, bring it to the market leaders and allow it to overtake the same EDGE. The device is rather secondary, following Samsung, Apple began to use the 7000 series of aluminum, reacting in this way to the scandal with bending phones, which, in my opinion, was far-fetched and in reality there was no such problem.

Many here may say that the iPhone screen has a new 3D Touch technology, which is not found in any other device. I interviewed all my friends who use the latest generation of iPhone, the answers amazed me. Most people just don't know what it is and how to work with it. The remaining 20 percent tried once and then spat, it's inconvenient and unclear where it works and where it doesn't. There is no habit to such technology, which means that its presence or absence does not affect the perception of the device. I just don't remember the IR port in the S6/S6 EDGE for controlling household appliances, since it can also be considered a feature that is not very important.

For Russia, it is also worth noting that the iPhone 6s does not have frequency aggregation, that is, the maximum speed in LTE will be limited, this can be fixed with new firmware in the future, so this point cannot be considered fundamental.

For the average consumer, several points are important in the device - the operating time (the same, but it charges faster than EDGE, plus there is wireless charging), the quality and size of the screen (EDGE is ahead by a wide margin in every sense), the camera (EDGE is slightly better for those who can remove, everyone else will not feel the difference), the quality of the case materials (comparable, but the mineral glass in the iPhone is cheaper and easier to beat). But there is another parameter that can be called the most important, this is the cost of devices.

So, the price of iPhone 6s 16GB in Russia starts from 57,000 rubles. Regular Galaxy S6 costs 38,000 rubles, EDGE - 44,000 rubles (prices in official stores of companies). It turns out that by buying Galaxy S6, you get a device that costs 19 thousand rubles cheaper, and by buying EDGE, you save 13 thousand rubles. It is also worth remembering that the basic version of the S6/S6 EDGE does not have 16 GB of memory, but exactly twice as much - 32 GB.

In my opinion, given that the iPhone 6s has no real, visible advantage over these two models, and the number of bugs and errors in iOS9 exceeds reasonable limits, the choice is obvious. On the other hand, there are a large number of people who do not know how to choose and stop only at the brand that they know and overpay for it. It's their choice and their money, you can't blame them for buying what they like. But it is also impossible to consider their choice reasonable at least in some way, they buy a weaker technological product for a lot of money. However, as shown above, in terms of use cases, the iPhone does not provide any advantage other than the feeling of owning an iPhone. However, in Russia, most people have already made their choice, and since the start of iPhone 6s sales, it has not been able to overtake EDGE and S6 in sales, these models are sold in larger quantities.

But this material simply compares the main points in the devices, shows which of them is strong in a particular area, and you can already draw conclusions yourself. In the end, it's up to you to buy a phone with your own money, and then you vote with your ruble.

P.S. Since this kind of material always makes fans from both camps hysterical, I have a big request, if you compare something, do it with examples and with facts, otherwise the discussion will not work out.

Apple and Samsung have been major rivals in the smartphone market for many years. And if in the past few years their rivalry partly took place in court hearings, this year manufacturers have completely switched to fighting within the framework of technology. And this has had a positive effect on the flagship devices of the companies. First, Apple introduced the iPhone 6, admitting it was a mistake not to release large smartphones. And now Samsung has launched the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, which received new case materials. At the same time, with the iPhone 6, Apple has already managed to significantly increase sales and regain lost market positions. Let's see what answer Samsung has prepared for the opponent with the Galaxy S6 edge.

Considering that Apple is making significant changes to its smartphones in a generation, and the iPhone 6s will hit the market this year, we thought that comparing the current generation of iPhone with the Galaxy S6 edge would be very useful. Moreover, the devices will compete directly with each other for at least another six months. Most of what is written below will also be true when comparing the Galaxy S6 directly with the iPhone 6.

A little about testing itself

In order to make summarizing the test results easier and more understandable, each section of the device will receive from 1 to 10 points. Their sum will determine the winner.

Materials, build quality

In the past, Samsung has used plastic in its flagship models, while Apple has favored glass and metal. Actually, the lion's share of criticism of Samsung designers was based on the use of plastic. This year the situation has changed dramatically.

In the Galaxy S6 edge, the company first used aircraft-grade aluminum, which creates a rigid frame for the case, as well as Gorilla Glass 4. The latter differs from third-generation glass in increased strength and, according to specifications, is able to withstand a fall from a height of 1.2 meters onto a hard surface.

A new approach to materials, as well as the rejection of the rear removable cover, allowed Samsung to create a very high-quality case, with a tight fit of all elements.

In the iPhone 6, Apple has traditionally used anodized aluminum, as well as glass covering the display on the front panel. All this is combined into a monolithic body, with a good fit of all parts.

In the end, both models stand out for their use of quality materials and superb build quality, as befits a flagship.

Ease of use

The smartphones presented in comparison have a different display diagonal, but in terms of size they are quite comparable.

The height and width of the Apple iPhone 6 is 138.1 x 67 mm, with a thickness of 6.9 mm. The smartphone turned out to be really thin and not very wide, which allows the thumb to reach the top of the display.

The power button on the iPhone 6 is located on the right side, and the volume control is on the left.

Due to the successful placement, both thumb and index finger fit equally well on them.

The dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, despite the large diagonal, are 142.1 × 70.1 × 7 mm. The smartphone came out a little higher and wider than the iPhone 6, but at the same time it retained dimensions that are comfortable to use.

S6 edge fits well in the hand, although its edges may initially seem too sharp, in practice this is not the case. The location of the power button and volume keys is similar to the iPhone 6.

Today, this is the best option for implementing good ergonomics in a smartphone.

Thus, both models perform well in everyday use. The dimensions of the iPhone 6 are likely to please those who are moving from models with a smaller diagonal of the case. Otherwise, the Galaxy S6 edge, with the same level of ergonomics, looks more advantageous due to more rational use of the front panel area.

Display

The Galaxy S6 edge uses a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display with a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels. All this allows the screen to form an image with a pixel density of 577 per inch. Thanks to this, the Galaxy S6 edge managed to significantly improve the quality of the picture, which has now become closer to high-quality glossy magazines.

Another feature of the Galaxy S6 edge is that it folds over the right and left edges of the case. It not only looks impressive, but also carries a functional load. The curved edges of the case make it easier to scroll through the lists.

The use of a curved display also produces an interesting visual effect, making the screen bezels appear to be miniaturized on the sides. But in fact, they are large enough to protect the screen when dropped.

The maximum display brightness of the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge is 600 cd/m2 and the minimum is 2 cd/m2. The smartphone screen is factory calibrated at a good level, but differs significantly depending on the selected mode. Optimal, according to our measurements, is the AMOLED Photo mode. In it, the screen shows more than 100% coverage of the sRGB color space with a large green bias. At the same time, its temperature is within 6500K, and the gamma is at the level of 2.2-2.3, which is a good indicator.

The display on the iPhone 6 has a diagonal of 4.7 inches with a resolution of 1334×750 pixels, which produces an image with a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch.

Apple has traditionally used IPS-matrix, but this time with dual-domain pixel technology, which allows you to widen the viewing angles of the screen. This design is based on the idea that not all pixels need to be evenly spaced. Instead, they can be beveled when viewed from the perspective of the lines defined by the display's rectangular edges, to compensate for uneven illumination.

Despite the lower resolution and ppi count, the iPhone 6 display looks very good. Its maximum brightness level reaches 500 cd / m2, and the minimum - 4.7 cd / m2, which is an excellent indicator for IPS screens. The factory calibration of the display in the iPhone 6 is very good.

In general, both screens leave a good impression, but in direct comparison, the display of the Galaxy S6 edge looks better, it is larger, sharper and with richer colors.

Performance

The smartphones in our comparison are built on their own processors. The iPhone has a 1.4GHz dual-core 64-bit A8 processor, which is built using a 20nm process. The Galaxy S6 edge uses a 64-bit 14nm Exynos 7420 processor, clocked at 1.5GHz and 2.1GHz. The AnTuTu performance test for iOS and Android is different, but it generally allows you to evaluate the level of performance of devices. In this parameter, the Exynos 7420 bypasses the A8.

However, given the lower resolution of the display, the processor power in the iPhone 6 will be sufficient for most tasks. In the Galaxy S6 edge, the Exynos 7420 performance is not only enough for the current demanding applications and games, the processor has a good headroom that will allow it to remain relevant for a couple of years.

At the same time, when switching between the iPhone 6 and Galaxy S6 edge, the difference in the amount of RAM is clearly visible. Samsung's flagship uses 3 GB, while Apple decided to stop at 1 GB. For a flagship smartphone, this is not enough. As a result, switching between open applications and tabs in the browser is more comfortable on the S6 edge.

The built-in storage, depending on the modification, starts at 16 GB in the iPhone 6, and 32 GB in the Galaxy S6 edge, and both models do not have memory card slots.

Camera

The Galaxy S6 edge uses a 16-megapixel camera with f/1.9 aperture, as well as optical stabilization. The iPhone 6 has an 8-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture and dual flash.

As you can see from the pictures, the Galaxy S6 edge camera has better image detail due to the larger aperture and resolution. Apple squeezed the maximum possible out of the 8-megapixel Sony photomodule, but it could well have been replaced with another one with a higher aperture and resolution.

Fingerprint's scanner

The Galaxy S6 edge and iPhone 6 can use the fingerprint scanner to unlock the display, as well as to purchase applications in the company store.

In both cases, they are aligned with a mechanical home button below their displays. The principle of operation of the scanners is the same, to unlock the finger you just need to attach to their surface.

At the same time, they work equally well, Samsung has pulled up a lot in this regard over the year, and differ only in shape.

Multimedia

Galaxy S6 edge and iPhone 6 out of the box support a fairly large number of multimedia files. At the same time, it should be noted that if the corresponding format is not in the list, then this is easily bypassed by installing third-party players. But let's see what test models can do initially.

Apple iPhone 6 can play AAC, MP3 Audible, Apple Lossless, AIFF and WAV audio formats. You can copy music to the built-in player only through iTunes, which is not always convenient.

The iPhone 6 sounds very good, it has a good volume margin and it is possible to adjust the equalizer.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge supports MP3, M4A, 3GA, AAC, OGG, OGA, WAV, WMA, AMR, AWB, FLAC, MID, MIDI, XMF, MXMF, IMY, RTTTL, RTX and OTA audio formats. It is especially worth highlighting support for uncompressed FLAC audio. You can use a USB cable and wireless sync to transfer files to your smartphone.

The sound quality of the S6 edge is also at a good level, while the volume margin will also please lovers of open headphones.

As for the volume of the external speaker, both smartphones produce approximately the same sound quality, but the S6 edge still outshines the iPhone 6.

Both smartphones can play video through the built-in player, but have different codec support:

Codec\Name UltraHD4K.mp4 Neudergimie.mkv GranTurismo.mp4 Spartacus.mkv ParallelUniverse.avi

iPhone 6

Galaxy S6 edge

In general, these models do an excellent job of playing music, except for the built-in FLAC support in the Galaxy S6 edge. But in terms of video, the basic capabilities of the Samsung smartphone are noticeably higher than those of the iPhone 6.

Autonomy and charging

The capacity of the built-in battery in the iPhone 6 is 1810 mAh versus 2600 mAh in the Galaxy S6 edge. We compared the autonomy of smartphones using the Geekbench 3 test, which discharged them with the included displays set to a medium brightness level.

As a result, the iPhone 6 lasted 3 hours and 28 minutes, while the Galaxy S6 edge lasted 7 hours and 32 minutes. These tests are confirmed by real-life operation, in which the iPhone 6 can withstand a maximum of daylight hours in medium load mode, while the Galaxy S6 edge works for about a day.

From 0 to 100%, the iPhone 6 charges in about 2 hours, while the smartphone has an undocumented fast charging function. When using a 2.1A charger, iPhone 6 can be charged in 1 hour 40 minutes.

Galaxy S6 edge takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to charge using the included charger. At the same time, the fast charging function allows you to charge your smartphone from 0 to 15% in 10 minutes, with economical use this can last up to 4 hours. Up to 80% of the battery is charged in 50 minutes. Samsung Adaptive and Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 built-in wireless charging charges the Galaxy S6 edge in about 3 hours.

As a result, in terms of autonomy, the Galaxy S6 edge shows the best results, which are also complemented by the ability to quickly charge and support wireless chargers.

final grade

By the sum of points in this comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge deservedly wins, for which it receives the Editors' Choice "Best Quality". Samsung has managed to significantly increase the functionality of its flagship, while it received a good design and body materials. The remaining six months until the next version of Apple's smartphone, the iPhone 6, will be difficult to compete with the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge. It will be even more difficult for the new iPhone to do this if it receives only minor improvements compared to the iPhone 6. Samsung has been able to raise the bar for quality, and although it has not become unattainable, technologically the company has made a serious leap forward.

Thank you very much for the very useful information in the article. Everything is very clear. It feels like a lot of work has been done to analyze the operation of the eBay store.

    • Thanks to you and other regular readers of my blog. Without you, I wouldn't be motivated enough to dedicate much of my time to running this site. My brains are arranged like this: I like to dig deep, systematize disparate data, try something that no one has done before me, or did not look at it from such an angle. It is a pity that only our compatriots, because of the crisis in Russia, are by no means up to shopping on eBay. They buy on Aliexpress from China, since there are many times cheaper goods (often at the expense of quality). But online auctions eBay, Amazon, ETSY will easily give the Chinese a head start in the range of branded items, vintage items, handicrafts and various ethnic goods.

In your articles, it is your personal attitude and analysis of the topic that is valuable. You do not leave this blog, I often look here. There should be many of us. Email me I recently received a proposal in the mail that they would teach me how to trade on Amazon and eBay. And I remembered your detailed articles about these auctions. area I re-read everything again and concluded that the courses are a scam. I haven't bought anything on eBay yet. I am not from Russia, but from Kazakhstan (Almaty). But we also do not need to spend extra. I wish you good luck and take care of yourself in Asian lands.

  • It's also nice that eBay's attempts to Russify the interface for users from Russia and the CIS countries have begun to bear fruit. After all, the vast majority of citizens of the countries of the former USSR are not strong in knowledge of foreign languages. English is spoken by no more than 5% of the population. More among the youth. Therefore, at least the interface in Russian is a great help for online shopping on this trading platform. Ebey did not follow the path of the Chinese counterpart Aliexpress, where a machine (very clumsy and incomprehensible, in places causing laughter) translation of the product description is performed. I hope that at a more advanced stage in the development of artificial intelligence, high-quality machine translation from any language into any will become a reality in a matter of fractions of a second. So far we have this (profile of one of the sellers on ebay with a Russian interface, but an English description):
