Forecaster in the world. Syngonium able to predict the weather. In particular, it predicts rain. A few hours before, drops of water appear on the leaves of Syngonium, hanging on the sharp groove-shaped tips of the greenery.

The phenomenon can be explained scientifically. Syngonium plant– liana. When settling on, it does not always reach the ground with its roots. Therefore, the hero of the article has adapted to absorb water over its entire surface. Before the rain, the air is excessively humid.

In the photo, the syngonium is pedunculated

Instead of penetrating into the leaf cells, water remains on their surface. Here are the droplets that are the harbingers of precipitation. However, Syngonium is “invited” into apartments not as a weather forecaster, but as a decorative foliage plant. Let's get to know him better.

Description and features of Syngonium

Syngonium flower belongs to the Araceae family. It contains 172 genera and 3,000 species. All of them are monocots, that is, they consist of an embryo of 1 lobe. In other families there are angiosperms with 2.

Reaching towards the light, Syngonium gives an increase of 50-60 centimeters per year. Consequently, the liana is a fast-growing liana, suitable for fast-paced landscaping projects.

For example, the hero of the article is capable of transforming an apartment in a new building into a Garden of Eden in a couple of years. It is enough to plant a few bushes. The same ones don't necessarily look the same.

There are varieties with plain and variegated leaves. There are greens in pink, red, yellow, and silver tones. Over the years, the color fades, but in young shoots it is rich.

In the photo is Syngonium White

The shape of the plates is also different in the leaves of Syngonium. In young vines they are usually arrow-shaped. But, with age, the leaves are divided into segments. Some species of Syngonium have 5 of them, while others have 7. Let’s count by looking in the photo.

Syngonium differs from other Araceae by a vein running along the edge of the leaves, like a frame. The lateral veins join it. The result is a grid pattern.

Indoor Syngonium, like the wild one, forms only 1 trunk. You can provoke branching of the vine by pinching the top of the shoot. A scar forms at the site where the last leaves are removed.

The Socs cannot break through it, rushing around. As a result, 2 new shoots emerge from the grooves of the last leaves. If you don’t pinch the vine, but create lush bush, it is logical to place several in 1 pot.

Aerial roots of Syngonium are also formed in the internodes. Here it is done without pinching. If a vine climbs up the base, for example, stone wall, the roots will help you grab onto it.

The hero of the article blooms with such cobs. There are 6-10 of them on a plant. The inflorescences are arranged vertically, no matter what they are Syngonium varieties. The buds are collected in spikelets and covered with a so-called “blanket”.

It shows its buds to the world only for 3 days, falling off during pollination. Afterwards, the blanket again envelops the ear, due to which it becomes like an ear.

Pictured is Syngonium Butterfly

The result of Syngonium pollination is a fruit with seeds. They are cylindrical and reach a centimeter in length. One fruit contains 50-100 grains. However, it is problematic to get them in apartments.

At home Syngonium refuses to bloom. Since the buds do not shine with decorativeness, flower growers put up with this, appreciating the beautiful foliage, unpretentiousness and benefits for the atmosphere of the house.

It’s easier to breathe next to a vine because it frees the air of formaldehyde. This is the name given to harmful gases released in the exhaust, coming from linoleum, dyes, and plastic.

Positive as well signs and superstitions associated with Syngonium. Some of them are based on the characteristics of the vine. Thus, the ability to change the shape of leaves with age is the basis of the belief that Syngonium brings changes to people’s lives. Therefore, the hero of the article is advised to conservatives and those who are afraid to move away from the well-trodden “paths”.

Becoming a symbol of change for the better, Syngonium at home appears during illness of the hosts. started to reverse the course of the disease. At the same time, the vine drives away bad dreams and helps to master new knowledge.

The list of positive superstitions is overshadowed by the fame of the muzhegon. It unites all the vines and vines. It is believed that propagation of Syngonium interrupts the human race. They say that the flower drives husbands away from their families.

In the photo is the Imperial syngonium

However, reviews of the owners of the hero of the article on the Internet often do not confirm this. Experts consider rare comments about Syngonium’s guilt to be just a coincidence. However, that’s what superstitions are for, to doubt their verisimilitude.

Reproduction and planting of Syngonium

The absence of Syngonium seeds in indoor floriculture promotes the propagation of vines apical cuttings. A middle section of the stem with at least one internode is also suitable. The apical cuttings must have at least 2 growing points.

Syngonium cuttings take root in water. You can add activated carbon to it. A tablet is enough for half a glass. You can also root the vine in sphagnum.

This is a type of moss. Sometimes cuttings are stuck into wet sand. If you take a piece of vine with already formed aerial roots, it will immediately take root in a permanent pot.

During rooting, the cuttings of the hero of the article are covered with glass or film. They will help raise the temperature in the pot. We need 24-27 degrees. When the seedlings begin to grow, the film is removed, moving on to the adult care program for the vines.

Caring for Syngonium

Caring for Syngonium- a reason to have it in offices, kindergartens, clinics. Liana decorates public institutions, demanding “crumbs” in return. Types of Syngonium They are content with partial shade, but can also stand under the scorching sun.

Pictured is Syngonium Imperial Pink

The abundance of light is especially good for variegated varieties. In the shadows they lose their uniqueness and darken. If buy Syngonium deep green, direct sunlight will make it fade. So, we put it in the shadows.

The temperature of the hero of the article is 20-23 degrees. In winter, the thermometer can drop to 16. Temperatures below are fraught with weakening. Dry air should also be excluded.

In an atmosphere with a lack of suspended water, the leaves of the vine turn yellow, dry out at the ends, and fall off. This leads to the answer to the question, Is it possible to keep Syngonium at home? near the batteries. No.

Liana is not only moved away from heating devices, but also sprayed at least a couple of times a day. This treatment serves as a preventive measure against a number of pests, for example, scale insects.

Defeat by them is a popular answer to the question, why Syngonium leaves turn yellow and dry out. That is, an illness caused by a lack of moisture and a disease caused by insects have similar clinical pictures.

Spraying Syngonium can be replaced by wiping the foliage with a damp sponge. Use boiled or settled water. You can also add it to a tray with pebbles. On such a “cushion” it is constantly surrounded by water vapor.

At the same time, watering the hero of the article is moderate. Between drinks top layer the soil should dry out. In winter, the time between waterings is further increased. An exception is wintering the vine in a dry and hot room.

In the photo wendland syngonium

The hero of the article is fed from mid-spring to autumn. Give for decorative deciduous trees. Syngonium requires mineral complexes in the form of solutions.

Calcium in fertilizing should be at a minimum. The element binds soil acids. This is good for plants that love an alkaline environment. Syngonium prefers a slightly acidic substrate.

In terms of design, the hero of the article needs either support, plucking, or complete freedom. In the latter case, the vine serves as an ampel plant, that is, it hangs freely from the pot.

Plucking allows you to shape the bush. If you put a vertical base, Syngonium description will approach the tree. In order to correctly form it, take into account that at home the vine stretches 2-2.5 meters.

Some gardeners have dwarf Syngonium bushes. Perhaps these are yearlings. Up to 12 months, most vines of the genus produce a lush rosette of leaves, beginning to form a stem only in the 2nd year of life.

In adulthood, Syngoniums remain dwarf, usually with the help of inhibitors. These are substances that suppress physiological development.

The Syngonium is replanted until roots appear in the hole of the pot. This is a signal that they are filling the flowerpot. The roots of the hero of the article are growing as quickly as he himself.

Young vines are moved to new pots once a year, and aged Syngoniums once every 2 years. The soil selected is loose and nutritious. Usually mixed in equal proportions, river sand, turf and leaf soil.

Pictured is syngonium Panda

When forming a Syngonium tree, the vertical base is placed in the drainage layer at the bottom of the pot. Afterwards, a third of the allocated substrate is poured into the flowerpot. All that remains is to place the vine in the container, straighten its roots and carefully cover it with earth, lightly compacting it.

After transplantation, Syngonium is watered abundantly and the 2 week countdown begins. This is a moratorium on . Fertilizing as planned begins at least from the 15th day after changing the pot and soil.

Types and varieties of Syngonium

There are 4 main cultivated species of Syngonium. The diversity of plants is associated with the abundance of varietal forms. We will talk about them in addition to the species division.

So, the most common on window sills Syngonium "Leaf-leaved". In nature, it grows in the tropics of southern America. Representatives of the species are prone to branching stems. The species got its name because of the long petioles of its leaves.

Pictured is the Confetti syngonium

Of the popular varieties of the “Leaf-leaved” species, I remember Syngonium "Butterfly". It has almost white leaves. These require sun exposure. “Butterfly” is distinguished by its growth rate. The vine gains one and a half meters in just a year.

Among the varieties of the “Leaf-leaved” type of vine, the following are also in demand: Syngonium "White". Its full name is “Varigent”. It reflects the coloring characteristics of the leaves of the vine.

Botanists call variegant cells those that lack the ability to produce chlorophyll, a green pigment. Therefore, the White variety has snow-white spots. As a rule, they run along the edges of the leaves. There is a variety - Syngonium "Imperial" White." The veins on its leaves are not snow-white, but creamy.

Varieties with whitish markings include "Panda" Syngonium distinguished by matte foliage dark green. Free-form white patches are scattered across the entire surface of the greenery. By the way, it grows faster than most other varieties of vines.

In the photo is the syngonium Neon Tetra

The second type of cultivated Syngonium - "Vendlanda". In nature, it grows in the tropics of Costa Rica. Varieties of the species are distinguished by 3-lobed leaves.

The two parts face the stem with their pointed tips, and the central plate has a standard position. It turns out like a clover, only with unequal petals. Syngonium "Vendlanda" has a central one that is larger than the others.

"Vendlanda" is not distinguished by varietal diversity. They mainly grow the natural form of vines, which cannot be said about the “Eared” Syngonium. It is distinguished by its thick stem and trifoliate leaves similar to the blades of 'Vendlanda'.

However, the greens of the “Eared” type are denser and leathery. There are more than ten popular varieties of this species. Let's highlight Syngonium "Neon". He is especially good when he is young. The foliage of young "Neon" is soft pink. With age, the plates turn green. Only the leaf veins remain pink.

In the photo the syngonium is pink

"Eared" variety Syngonium Red deep pink. This is the color of the top of the leaves. Their back side is green. The colors persist as the bush matures. The main thing is to keep the vine in the light. In the dark Syngonium pink becomes uniformly green.

There are splashes of pink on Syngonium "Confetti". The leaves of the variety are creamy green. On top are spots of purple. The inclusions are frequent and varied in size. It looks like confetti is scattered, hence the name of the variety.

Fourth type indoor Syngonium- “Large-leaved.” In nature, it inhabits the forests of Mexico and Ecuador. Varieties of the species are distinguished not by arrow-shaped, but by heart-shaped foliage. Accordingly, the green plates of the cuttings are rounded.

Pictured is Syngonium ed.

From the name of the species it is clear that its representatives are large, like their leaves. The length of the plates reaches 30 centimeters. IN room conditions the indicator is usually reduced to 20. However, the “large-leaved” vine cannot be called popular in culture.

Diseases and pests of Syngonium

Let's figure out how not to confuse such manifestations of internal diseases and pest activity. Thus, Syngonium leaves may turn yellow, change shape, and fall off due to a lack of nutrients in the soil.

At the same time, the leaves of the vine become smaller. There are not enough resources to form large plates. They do not become stained, but lighten evenly. There is not enough energy to produce chlorophyll. If the tips of the leaves dry out, it’s probably due to the dry air.

In the photo, a syngonium leaf is drying

Another thing is the attacks of aphids, scale insects and thrips. With them, the greenery of Syngonium is covered with spots unevenly. Only the affected areas stop producing chlorophyll.

In addition, insects are visible, at least under a magnifying glass. Thrips sometimes reach a centimeter in length, so they are visible to the naked eye. The sharp-eyed will also be able to spot aphids and scale insects.

Pictured is syngonium disease

The hero of the article is not susceptible to fungal infections. Respectively, root system out of danger. Leaves can also suffer from waterlogging of the soil. The disease can be recognized by the loss of luster in greenery.

The color also partially disappears. Faded and dull leaves are not associated with pest activity. This is important to take into account so as not to poison the vine with chemicals once again. It is a necessity in case of infection. The use of poisons for preventive purposes is not recommended.

Syngonium itself is sometimes called poisonous. This is not due to the poisons and chemicals contained in. It's harmless. The energy of the vine is considered poisonous. Fame is associated with the teachings of Feng Shui.

In the photo, the syngonium affected by thrips must be treated with an insecticide

In it negative energy have all pointed objects. This means that the arrow-shaped leaves of Syngonium are also dangerous. But, in the chapter “Species” varieties with leaves of smooth shapes are described. So, even if you are interested in Feng Shui and listen to superstitions, you can find your own version of Syngonium.

Syngonium is perennial evergreen vine With long stems having lateral processes.

The shoots, creeping along the ground or entwining a vertical riser, are densely covered with beautiful large leaves, which led to the wide popularity of vines among flower growers.

The syngonium flower is ideal for a home where the owner wants to add zest and fill the room with a rich palette green. Compliance simple rules for caring for a tropical dweller will allow you to create a tropical corner in the interior of a city apartment.

Description of the plant

Liana-like culture belongs to the Araceae family, numbering about 3300 species and about 117 genera.

In the wild, the height of the vine can reach 20 m with a shoot width of 6 cm, and at home it varies from 1.5 to 2 m with a stem diameter of 1-2 cm.

Along the entire length of the shoot there are protruding nodes from which petiolar leaves develop, and a little lower there are aerial roots.

The green leaves are whole, heart-shaped or palmately divided and have different sizes. The location of the relief veins can be in the center or along the edge in the form of an edging. Depending on the variety, the leaf blade can be plain or variegated.

Observe tropical vines can bloom only in natural environment habitat. The beginning is noted at the end of spring, when cream-colored cobs bloom, half hidden by a red or pink blanket.

The plant is characterized by cross-pollination, which results in cylindrical or ovoid fruits. Juicy fruits With rich aroma are food for monkeys, which spread them over large areas.

Carefully! The plant is poisonous - work should be carried out with gloves, and children and pets should not be allowed to come into contact with the vine.

Varieties of tropical liana

Genus of graceful and unpretentious vines There are approximately 20 species, but only a few are able to grow at home.

Attention! Within one species, breeders develop many varieties.

Species

    • Syngonium (S. podophyllum). In the natural environment, this species, represented by branched vines with graceful stems, grows in Central America. Large leaves 13 cm long on long petioles 60 cm thick cover the shoots. If the plant is young, then they are spear-shaped, and adult specimens are covered with palmate leaves, the maximum dissection of which is 11 lobes.

  • Syngonium eared (S. auritum). This species is distinguished by thin, climbing shoots up to 1.8 m in length, not exceeding a diameter of 2.5 cm. Internodes from which aerial roots develop and large leaves, located on the stems close to each other. The name of the species is due to the structure of the leaves: each green leaf, attached to a petiole 30-40 cm long, has two appendages resembling ears near the base. The length of the leaf blade ranges from 6 to 20 cm, and its coating is similar to wax.

Varieties

Based on these species, the following varieties were sectioned, which are preferred by lovers of tropical inhabitants:

    • Syngonium Wendland (S. Wendlandii)- a large climbing variety of vine with dark green velvety leaf blades, imported from Costa Rica. The leaves covering the shoots are formed on petioles up to 30 cm long and have a main vein with a silvery tint.

    • Syngonium pink (S. Neon Pink) - beautiful variety, distinguished by pinkish heart-shaped leaves with a light green edging. In a young specimen, the leaf blade has a bright pink color, which becomes paler with age, with pink veins standing out. In everyday life, its abbreviated name is often found - Syngonium Neon.

    • Syngonium Butterfly (S. White Butterfly)- the most common variety, with large spear-shaped leaves with an expressive web of light-colored veins. The species is unpretentious, reproduces at any time of the year, grows quickly and reaches 1.5 m in height.

    • Syngonium Pixie (S. Pixie)- a compact perennial, the glossy leaf of which looks like an elongated heart-shaped ellipse with a characteristic variegated color - pronounced light green veins.

  • Syngonium Arrow (S. Arrow)– a common, low-maintenance form with variegated large shoots.

  • Syngonium Panda (S. Panda) is a fast-growing bushy variety that has not yet gained mass popularity. The name is due to the yellowish spots on the matte dark green leaves.

  • Syngonium S. Aron Brown- a variety with triangular-rounded chocolate-colored leaves with green tips located on red petioles.

  • Syngonium Confetti (S.Confetti) - distinguishing characteristic varieties consists of dynamic changes in species leaf blade depending on the age of the plant - a young specimen has a arrow-shaped shape, while an old leaf has clearly defined lobes resembling an irregular star with an elongated ray.

  • Syngonium Tiffany (S. Tiffany)- one of pink varieties flower with unusual pink pigment spots on sheet plates Oh.

  • Syngonium Macrophyllum (S. Macrophyllum) - unique vine from Ecuador and Mexico, which stands out for its appearance from other varieties. A large plant with rounded, pointed leaf blades of a matte green color.

  • Syngonium Brocante (S. Brocante)- a variety with brown leaf blades and pronounced red veins.

  • Syngonium narrowed (S. Angustatum)- a compact plant with dissected leaves up to 11 segments.

  • Syngonium Pink Splash (S. Pink Splash)– liana with green leaves, on which spots of creamy pink shades are scattered in a chaotic manner.

  • Syngonium Imperial White (S. Imperial White) is an amazing variety that has white leaves due to the high concentration of nitrogen in the soil. Difficulties arise during reproduction.

  • Syngonium Pink Spot (S. Pink Spot)- the leaf plates of this representative come in various shapes with a large color palette– heart-shaped, arrow-shaped, spear-shaped with a background color from green to almost white and spots of pink-red tones.

  • Syngonium Spear Point- refers to long-established unpretentious varieties, which modify adult leaves: the arrowhead quality is lost over time due to the greater prominence of the lateral segments.

  • Syngonium Rasami Naq (S. Rasamee Naq)- This is an almost non-vining bush form, the maximum height of which is 40 cm, with leaves of a beautiful white-pink color.

Plant propagation

At home, syngonium propagation is carried out vegetative method - cuttings or lateral shoots. It is carried out at any time of the year, but the development of spring and summer cuttings occurs much more intensively. To successfully use this technique, you should follow these steps:

  1. a part of the shoot with 2-3 internodes and aerial roots is cut off;
  2. the cutting is placed in warm water With activated carbon or in a soil mixture of sand, moss and peat;
  3. Before rooting, they are covered with a film to reduce moisture loss and create optimal temperature regime soil and air - 25-27°C;
  4. after rooting, the cover is removed;
  5. seedlings are grown by analogy with the mother specimen.

Advice! Before placing the cutting in the ground for rooting, it is recommended to treat the cut with a root growth stimulator.

This video shows in detail how syngonium is propagated:

Features of growing indoors

Cultivating a plant in an apartment does not cause problems, but a number of nuances should be studied.

Landing

Syngonium is planted in a container small sizes with drainage holes.

To obtain the splendor of the plant, several shoots are planted simultaneously in one pot.

This variety of vine can be used as a hanging plant if its stems are allowed to hang freely from the pot. Forming a crown will allow you to become the owner of a unique tree.

Advice! To get the shape of a tree, when planting in the ground, you should install a reliable support that will allow the vine to crawl upward.

Transfer

Young specimens are replanted every spring, but as you grow older, the interval between procedures increases. To ensure a successful transplant, the following steps must be followed:

  1. to the bottom landing tank place expanded clay as a drainage layer;
  2. pour loose mixture on top and fertile soil with weak acidity - a soil mixture of turf, sand and peat;
  3. Using the transshipment technique to avoid damage to the roots, complete the replanting of the perennial.

Attention! An adult representative of the tropics needs to be replanted after roots appear from the drainage holes.

Care

Caring for the plant is quite simple. The love of flower growers for syngonium is caused by its unpretentiousness, rapid growth and survivability.

    • Lighting. The flower needs long period arrival of scattered light. When placing the pot on the windows on the western or eastern side, we must not forget about protecting the vine from the scorching sun at its zenith.

  • Temperature conditions. Throughout the year, except winter season, when it is permissible to lower the value to 18°C, optimal temperature is the range from 22 to 25°C.
  • Watering and humidity. Tropical liana needs high level humidity, systematic watering and spraying. Spraying of shoots is carried out daily with purified water at room temperature. The soil should be watered with the same water at short intervals: the soil should not dry out deeper than 3 cm. Regular moistening makes it easier for the plant to cope with air drought.
  • Feeding. Fertilizers in the form aqueous solutions special mineral complexes For ornamental plants applied under the crop at a distance from the stems. Fertilizing can be done from mid-spring to mid-autumn.
  • Trimming. Lana has good pruning tolerance. The shoots are pinched for the first time after three pairs of leaves have formed. If necessary, you can shorten any process. If the stem has become too old and bare, then pruning promotes the development of young side shoots.
  • Protection from diseases and pests. A native of the tropics has a well-developed immunity to diseases and pests. However, in case improper care over a long period of time he is affected powdery mildew, and on the foliage the following are noted harmful insects, How spider mite, scale insect or mealybug. If detected, protective measures should be taken - a hot shower up to 45C and treatment with the insecticide Actellik or Aktara.

Benefits, signs and superstitions

In city conditions, syngonium is an excellent solution for apartments and houses. It not only perfectly refreshes the interior, but filters air masses, eliminating negative impact dangerous elements.

Plant acts as a stabilizer of the level of humidity and oxygen saturation of the air in the room. But superstitious people often wonder whether it is possible to keep syngonium at home from the point of view of folk wisdom.

Among the people there are absolutely opposite signs and superstitions associated with the content of syngonium at home. According to the interpretation of some, if a person is sick, then the vine will help the owner restore strength and fight a very serious and sometimes incurable disease.

The plant helps strengthen morale and get rid of bad habits. When the owner is tormented by nightmares, it will protect his sleep. In other signs, syngonium is considered a muzhegon: male representatives in the housing where this plant grows do not get along, and the owners face the fate of an old maid. But these are just superstitions that have no justification.

Syngonium (lat. Syngonium) - a genus of perennial evergreens

plants of the aroid family.

Syngonium I got it a long time ago. A friend gave me the cuttings. I won't say it was love at first sight. No. But gradually I realized that this is a plant unlike others: with interesting carved leaves, graceful curved and strong stem and unique leaf color.

This is how I became the owner of the syngonium variety White Butterfly(White Butterfly).

As you can see, leaf color can vary from dark green with white to a delicate light green shade.

It is very interesting to watch how the leaf of a plant opens:

He crawls out of his “shelter” and gradually opens up completely, spreading his “wings”. The analogy is 100%, as you can see, from a caterpillar to a butterfly!

And recently on one of the sites I found out that this plant is under the sign of Virgo. I don’t know how they figured it out, and whether it’s possible...

But... I myself am a Virgo according to the horoscope, and I feel that this is my plant, it suits me, I really like it.

Besides, syngonium - from the aroid family, whose representatives I love very much.

I have more at home anthurium, caladium, spathiphyllum, zamioculcas.

And I was at work Alocasia and Dieffenbachia.

Now I'll tell you in which pots are best to grow syngonium.

At first he grew up with me in hanging planter in the kitchen.

But, due to the fact that there was still a loggia outside the kitchen window, he was constantly reaching for the light.

This elongated plant it didn't look very nice, so after moving V new apartment, I his transplanted in a regular pot.

But I didn't like it b that as it grew, the stems of the plant became too long, exposing the aerial roots.

It looked sloppy and not aesthetically pleasing:

Well, what did I want?! Syngonium come from South America, climbing vine.

It was possible to buy support with coconut fiber , which I did according to advice from the Internet. But then I changed my mind, deciding that it would look ugly.

AND I just cut the stem, having decided will root eat him.

Here detailed steps And photo:

After pruning, place them in water to root. It is better to choose an elongated vase with a narrow neck for this. Here's one like mine, for example:

The roots grow quickly, and in a week or two you can already replant a plant in a pot.

G runt I always use purchased: for ficus or universal.

Be sure to have drainage at the bottom from pre-washed expanded clay.

Also in everything indoor flowers I put a few pieces charcoal And sand.

In addition, I sprinkle sand on top of the soil. It’s more beautiful, and when watering, water is absorbed better.

Let's continue. But even this seemed not enough to me. and I bought high floor planter, and decided to transplant syngonium there.

Having moved to an apartment with spacious glassed balcony and having attached it to the apartment, at first I wanted to make an office there, but then I realized that it was better to split it winter garden. Firstly, it is beautiful, and secondly, it is useful, because plants purify the air, saturating it with oxygen.

I made the choice in favor of decorative leaf flowerpots, although bright anthurium and phalaenopsis flowers are also visible between their leaves (the flowers are simply happy to grow in such a thick and moist shade).

I can confidently call syngonium my favorite decorative foliage. I have five varieties of this plant turning green and pink at once. Of course - it’s not too whimsical, it looks like a million, and my friends don’t have anything like it!

From the tropics of the Americas.

This is a liana, almost a “cousin” of the philodendron.

In “captivity” it practically does not bloom, with the exception of greenhouse plants. But in the forests it often throws out an ear of corn, very similar to corn. A syngonium flower looks like this:

Types most common in our homes and shops

If in the wild there are about thirty of them, then in our apartments there are much fewer, and this is understandable - not every species will take root with us (and not every one is so beautiful that we, flower growers, will fool around with it).

All types and varieties have one quality in common: whitish, milky juice. It is considered poisonous. That is, the plant itself is not dangerous, but if you chew the leaf, you can feel serious discomfort in the intestines. So if you have small child, temporarily move the pot higher on the cabinet - you will sleep more peacefully.

Wendland Syngonium

Very beautiful plant. Its velvety leaves have a deep green color, and in the center there is a light spot.

Legleaf (podophyllous)

This is a long vine with narrow leaves located on long petioles (hence the name). The liana lengthens by 40-60 cm per year. It served as the basis for the creation of many popular varieties.

If in one place you see a leg-leaved syngonium with regular leaves, and in another with “cut” leaves, then these are not different varieties and not a mistake in the name. It’s just that the older the plant gets, the deeper these depressions lie in it.

Pixie

small, dwarf plant, having variegated, light green, spotted leaves with a glossy surface. This is the most popular variety, the “mother” of which is considered to be the leg-leaved syngonium.

In addition to it, you can also buy Arrow ( unpretentious plant, which will quickly weave your ladder) or “White Butterfly” ( tall plant with large leaves and noticeable light specks).

Brocant

This is also a variety.

It has elongated, heart-shaped leaves. Their color is brown, with green, and the veins are often colored in a reddish tint.

Pink

The large leaves, colored soft pink, are impressive.

In front of us in the photo is a syngonium variety “Neon Pink”. Its young leaves are pink, although as they age, they sometimes turn a little green (especially if the light regime of the flowerpot is disturbed).

There are other varieties that have either a completely pink leaf color or spots of this color. Here they are in the photo:

Auricular (aka eared, auritum)

A creeping vine with a thick stem and aerial roots.

The choice of the most impatient gardeners, as it grows almost a meter per year.

Leaves grow on petioles. When they are “small” they are simply narrow, but when they “get old” they become dissected. From previous view aurate syngonium distinguished by small segments located near the base of the leaves. They just look like ears.

large-leaved

Little known, but very unpretentious appearance. It grows in the wild in Mexico, so it is easy to guess that it is not afraid of drought.

This is also a liana, although it looks more like a spreading bush.

What care does syngonium need?

  • Light. Partial shade or bright but diffuse lighting. The ideal window for this decorative culture considered eastern or western.
  • Temperature. Syngonium is thermophilic. All year round it needs about 20 degrees (can be kept in warmer conditions in summer).
  • Watering. Take out the watering can when you see that the top of the soil is dry. But pour in enough water - the flower needs plenty of watering.
  • Humidity. Since this is a “tropicana”, it’s easy to guess that you can’t do without a humidifier or spray bottle. In winter, the syngonium has to be saved from the radiator - this is not difficult; a tray with moistened expanded clay will help out. And of course, don’t forget to wash the leaves with a wet handkerchief - this procedure will not only moisturize them, but also protect them from dust accumulation.
  • Nutrition. For such flowerpots, mixtures created for decorative leafy plants are purchased. The main thing is that the composition contains a minimum of calcium. Fertilize once every 15-20 days, but only from April to September.
  • Diseases. Syngonium is afraid of rot. So don't overwater it and be mindful of the pot's drainage.
  • Pests. The plant can be attacked by scale insects, thrips, and aphids.
  • Transfer. As in the case of philodendron, young bushes are transplanted every year, old ones - once every two or three years. This should be done in early spring.
  • Priming. Loose, with neutral or weak acidity (look for a package that says “Neutral Soil”). You can mix it yourself by taking peat, turf soil, leafy soil and sand.
  • Pot. Although the plant threatens to grow large, do not choose a container for it that is too large. If you have already bought a huge pot, plant several syngoniums in it at once (you can even different varieties), they will not “quarrel”.
  • Special conditions. This bush needs winter (or rather, from mid-autumn to mid-winter) rest. At this time, the plant is not fed and watered little. In spring it wakes up and begins to grow actively. It's time to pinch and shape the crown.

How to propagate this plant? It’s simple, cut off the cutting and root it in water. You will hear more detailed comments about this process in this video:

Syngonium Syngonium Schott belongs to the Araceae Family - Araceae. The genus includes 33 species of herbaceous vines and semi-epiphytic plants, common in Central and South America.

Syngonium pink - care and reproduction

The name of the genus comes from Lat. Syn - united, adhesive and gone - ovule.

Syngonium is grown as an ornamental leaf plant.

The color of syngonium leaves is monochromatic or variegated, with silver veins, streaks, and spots. Leaf color - from green different shades until almost white.

Syngonium leaves change with age. The leaves of young plants are arrow-shaped, sit on a straight petiole and have the brightest color.

But over time, the stems of the syngonium stretch and require support, and leaves with clearly defined lobes begin to grow. You can keep the plant compact by trimming the stems. It is convenient to use a tube with moss as a support for the syngonium, because the plant itself wraps around it and grows upward. Syngonium can reach a height of 1.5 - 1.8 m. Syngonium is also grown as hanging plant, hanging the pot as high as possible, while the stems of the plant will hang down, forming a green carpet.
Old syngoniums very rarely bloom indoors, but they can bloom green flowers with red bracts.
In indoor conditions, syngonium auricularis, syngonium Wendland and syngonium legifolia are widespread.
Syngonium auritum (S. auritum) - has shiny trilobed dark green leaves and bluish stems with well-developed aerial roots at the nodes. The sheet is divided from 3 to 5 segments. Characterized by rapid growth. Sometimes it blooms - the inflorescence is a spadix with a spathe about 5 cm, light green in color with a reddish spot on inside. The strong stems of syngonium auricata have a diameter of 1.5 - 1.8 cm and grow by 70 - 90 cm per year.
Syngonium podophyllum (S. podophyllum) with thin climbing shoots and light green leaves in the shape of a heart. Leaf size is 7 - 13 cm. During the year the plant grows by 45 - 60 cm.
Syngonium wendlandii has dark green tripartite leaves on long petioles. The central segment of the leaf is up to 10 cm long, the lateral segments are up to 15 cm. The central vein of the leaf is silvery, and the entire surface of the leaf is velvety.
Care and reproduction. Syngonium is an easy plant to care for and propagate.
Lighting. Syngonium is photophilous, therefore for cultivation it requires bright diffused light and obligatory shading from direct sunlight in summer. Syngoniums with dark green leaves can withstand light partial shade, and varieties with variegated leaves more photophilous. In winter, syngonium requires bright lighting, otherwise the leaves begin to shrink and lose color, so in winter it is advisable to move the syngonium closer to the window.
Watering. Watering the syngonium should be regular and abundant in spring both in summer and moderate in winter. The soil should not dry out or be too wet.
Fertilizer feeding. It is necessary to fertilize syngonium during active growth from March to August once every two weeks liquid fertilizer For indoor plants. A lack of nutrients in the soil can affect young leaves - they become smaller.
Air humidity. Syngonium loves frequent spraying and moist air.
Temperature. +18 - +20°C, and in winter not lower than +16°C.
Transfer. Transplantation into fresh soil is necessary for syngonium once every two years in the spring.
Priming. Soil composition for syngonium: 1 part leaf, 1 part peat, 1 part humus, 1 part sand.
Reproduction Syngonium is propagated by apical cuttings or pieces of shoots. When dividing a shoot, it should have a bud (eye). Root at a temperature of 24 - 26°. After successful rooting, the plants are planted one at a time in 7-9 centimeter pots.
Pinching. To provoke branching, young plants are pinched above the 6th leaf.

Pests. Syngonium pests are aphids, thrips and scale insects. Although syngonium is rarely attacked by pests, most often the plant is affected by aphids and scale insects.
Aphids damage syngonium leaves from the underside and the tops of shoots. Damaged parts become discolored, leaves curl, turn yellow and fall off. If your syngonium turns yellow, then check for aphids on it. Measures to combat aphids. Spraying with derris, fitoverm, inta-vir, decis or actellik, two to three times at intervals of a week.
The scale insect settles on the stems of syngonium and on the leaves on both sides. Syngonium damaged by scale insects slows down or stops growing, the leaves dry out. Control measures. Actellik spraying.
Thrips. The emergence of this pest is facilitated by high temperature And low humidity air. Thrips lay numerous eggs on the underside of the leaf, and light dots of stones appear on the upper side of the leaf. The upper side of the leaf becomes grayish-brown with a silvery sheen. Measures to combat thrips. The plant should be sprayed repeatedly with insecticides: fitoverm, actellik, decis, inta-vir.
Possible care problems.
If new leaves grow smaller than old ones, this is due to lack of light or nutrients in the soil.
If the leaves of syngonium become pale and lose their shine, then it is too high humidity air or excessive watering.
The variegated leaves of syngonium lose their variegation and become almost green due to lack of lighting.
If syngonium leaves have dry brown tips or leaf edges, then the reason is too dry air.
Features of care. Syngonium leaves contain substances that irritate the skin and mucous membrane, so it is necessary to take this feature into account when working with syngonium.

THANK YOU so much for the very useful information in the article. Everything is presented very clearly. It feels like a lot of work has been done to analyze the operation of the eBay store

    • Thank you and other regular readers of my blog. Without you, I would not have been motivated enough to dedicate much time to maintaining this site. My brain is structured this way: I like to dig deep, systematize scattered data, try things that no one has done before or looked at from this angle. It’s a pity that our compatriots have no time for shopping on eBay because of the crisis in Russia. They buy from Aliexpress from China, since goods there are much cheaper (often at the expense of quality). But online auctions eBay, Amazon, ETSY will easily give the Chinese a head start in the range of branded items, vintage items, handmade items and various ethnic goods.

What is valuable in your articles is your personal attitude and analysis of the topic. Don't give up this blog, I come here often. There should be a lot of us like that. Email me I recently received an email with an offer that they would teach me how to trade on Amazon and eBay. And I remembered your detailed articles about these trades. area I re-read everything again and concluded that the courses are a scam. I haven't bought anything on eBay yet. I am not from Russia, but from Kazakhstan (Almaty). But we also don’t need any extra expenses yet. I wish you good luck and stay safe in Asia.

  • It’s also nice that eBay’s attempts to Russify the interface for users from Russia and the CIS countries have begun to bear fruit. After all, the overwhelming majority of citizens of the countries of the former USSR do not have strong knowledge of foreign languages. No more than 5% of the population speak English. There are more among young people. Therefore, at least the interface is in Russian - this is a big help for online shopping on this trading platform. eBay did not follow the path of its Chinese counterpart Aliexpress, where a machine (very clumsy and incomprehensible, sometimes causing laughter) translation of product descriptions is performed. I hope that at a more advanced stage of development of artificial intelligence, high-quality machine translation from any language to any in a matter of seconds will become a reality. So far we have this (the profile of one of the sellers on eBay with a Russian interface, but an English description):
