Living in a country of great bitter frosts and fluffy shiny snow, it is difficult to deny yourself the pleasure and not build an icy fairytale palace, decorated with gracefully rising columns, beautiful sculptures, and statues. All winter long to admire how a gentle ray of sun makes its way through the thickness of such a fragile but strong ice, along the way playing with every piece of ice he encountered and fabulously scattering with all the colors of the rainbow.

This miracle has a sad fate. Any ice projects of castles and palaces end sadly. They will stand and stand, and in March they will slowly melt in the sun and spread into a puddle. Until next winter, the memories will fade away.

And yet there was a palace that walked through history, eclipsed all the ice buildings with its fate and confused lives with its icy legends. The tale is long, with princesses, princesses and jesters.

Fairy princess

Once upon a time there lived an unfortunate princess. Rich and noble, they married her off to an infidel, sent the kingdom to her husband, and he took it and died. So that her unattractive appearance would not disturb the gaze, no one called the princess to her homeland to the palace, and she lived there in Courland. But not everything is so smooth in royal life it happens that, due to some unknown palace intrigue, they suddenly order her to appear in her homeland and order her to be queen, yes, not of some small principality, but of the whole Russian Empire: Anna Ioannovna.

She ruled unsuccessfully, it was worth noting. Not like a king. Something wasn't going well for her. bad time for Russia it was vague. But what the queen loved was to have fun. A fairytale ice house for fun is her idea.

Ice castle project

Marvelous beautiful castle It was built from ice on the frozen Neva. The design of the castle had far from fabulous dimensions: 15 m in length, five in height and five in width. Eyewitnesses oohed and aahed, looking at the ice flowers and birds, like furniture made from crystal on which one could sit and lie.

Dolphins and elephants scattered fountains of water all day, and at night they illuminated the Neva with burning oil. It was rumored that there were even candlesticks and a fireplace in the palace, the latter with ice-cold firewood, anointed with oil on top. They gave off heat like real ones. A bathhouse was built nearby, so anyone could take a steam bath. Everything in this ice castle was real: the architect, the wedding, the bride and groom.

History has preserved the name of the architect who created the ice palace project. Not surprisingly, it was the creation of P.E. Eropkin, who drew a plan for the whole of St. Petersburg.

It is believed that the newlyweds were unlucky with their wedding. But that's how to say it. The bride, a disgusting-looking court joker, got a husband from a family of princes and bore him two children.

The jester - Prince Golitsyn, after the death of the queen, was able to restore his rights, outlived his wife for many years, married again, now for the fourth time, and lived to a ripe old age. And almost no one would remember all these almost fairy-tale heroes, if the ice castle was not built according to a high-quality design, it melted, as expected, in mid-April, but its glory remained for centuries.

For exotic lovers, our company has developed original projects castles whose plans and designs differ from other large buildings built, for example, in the palace style. Castles were common in X-XVI centuries when Europe was rocked by internecine wars. Therefore, the dwelling was at the same time a defensive structure, adapted for protection from enemies and a long siege.

Architectural features of the “castle” style

A modern project implementing a “medieval” house in the style of a castle, provides towers, massive walls, and observation windows. Of course, now it is not surrounded by a moat with water, as was customary in the Middle Ages, and there are no weapons warehouses inside. Historical stylization is created using typical architectural elements, and finishing materials with an “antique” look.

  1. Cottages in medieval style- These are solid stone buildings made of brick, aerated concrete blocks with thick walls without protrusions.
  2. An indispensable attribute style - towers and turrets are round or polygonal with small windows - “loopholes”.
  3. Exterior decor presented with cladding made of natural or artificial stone, decorative ceramic bricks brown, gray.
  4. The roofs are multi-pitched, with canopies and dormers, covered with dark-colored tiles. Sometimes there are “teeth” present, giving the building a distinctive appearance.
  5. The windows are elongated in a vertical direction, tall, narrow, almost always arched. The “arch” can be stylized - emphasized with a different color, or with special masonry.

In the 17th century, the castle began to acquire the features of a palace style. The walls began to be lined with light stone, decorated with ornaments, and decorated with bas-reliefs. In general, any house project in the form of a castle involves the construction of a cottage, which with all its appearance shows: my house is my fortress.

Projects of mansions in the castle style

Fortress project No. 39-08 Palace project No. 33-19

The photo from the catalog shows different solutions. Among the castle style projects there are buildings like a medieval fortress, and there are houses and cottages that are more reminiscent of a palace, for example, project No. 33-19. This big house with a light plastered facade, balconies and a terrace.

All our projects contain a full package of documentation necessary for construction: floor plans, masonry diagrams, sections of the roof and foundation. A specification of materials is attached to it, and using a special order form you can calculate an estimate.

A palace style house is considered exclusive and interesting option, which is suitable for connoisseurs of luxury. A large number of decorative elements on the walls of the building add zest and gloss to the entire design. There will be large number rooms and various premises.

Projects of elite estates and palaces are quite diverse. On at the moment construction of houses in palace style is becoming more and more popular. The buildings are not only distinguished by their scale, but also by their original design. There are some stylistic design, which are used for the construction of such majestic buildings:

  • classicism.
  • baroque,
  • Gothic,
  • Renaissance.

House project in palace style

Classicism

Classicism is an architectural movement of the 17th-19th centuries. In most cases, in the construction of a house in this stylistic direction there is a peculiar appeal to the era of antiquity.

Projects of palaces in this style are very diverse. They have antique directions, which at that time were diluted with modern building materials.

Empire style house

The main characteristic of the direction is that the arch becomes flatter and lower; very often molding is used under it.

The postulate of classicism is the beauty of natural forms, which can be understood with the help of fairly simple mathematical calculations and bring them into reality thanks to the skills of ancient master builders.

As for the shape in which the palaces were built, it was slightly elongated. All buildings were distinguished by their compactness and variety of shapes:

  • U-shaped,
  • W-shaped,
  • U-shaped.

Such buildings with courtyard, in which there was a very beautiful garden with numerous flower beds and tiled floors, they were particularly attractive. Very rarely, palaces were found in a square shape, and if they were found, they did not have a courtyard.

The roofs of palaces in classicism were low and in most cases had flat shapes. They were decorated with a parapet, which most likely had the character decorative decoration. All forms of the building were proportional and had rectilinear shapes. To decorate the corners of such a building, stucco molding and majestic columns were used that supported the arch of the building. They could be found not only outdoors, but also in interior decoration white.

Stone house in classicism style

Sometimes some changes were made in the design. In those centuries, everything depended on the capabilities of the owner of the palace. In expensive palaces one could see gilded or marble columns. But they were most often used to decorate the ballroom in the center of the palace.

The buildings represent large buildings which have two or three floors with beautiful stained glass windows. At the moment, this stylistic direction is also very popular. Houses are also built on its basis, which have not such significant volumes, but appearance yet they resemble a classic palace.

Project of a modern two-story private house in classicism style

A modern building is built using various materials:

  • bricks,
  • aerated concrete,
  • foam concrete,
  • shell rock.

All these materials are fire resistant and very durable.

Previously, all palaces were built in most cases using earth block or earthen block construction (earth blocks).

Advantages of soil block or earthen construction

Construction using technologies that were used in those centuries is distinguished by its visible advantages.

Firstly, earthen construction is characterized by a fairly low cost. All the soil that is on the site is suitable for such purposes. The only thing they paid attention to special attention- this is sand that should have been well cleaned and free of impurities.

Secondly, buildings that were built using this technology were fireproof, since the earth does not burn. And from direct impact the source of fire on it only becomes stronger and stronger.

Do not forget that a structure built using earthen technology is characterized by environmental friendliness. Living inside is very comfortable.

Buildings that were built from soil have a low thermal conductivity. They are several times warmer than buildings made of brick or any other building material.

Today, this technology is not used in construction at all. This is due to the emergence of new, more modern building materials that have excellent technical characteristics.

Baroque

There is another stylistic direction that was used for the construction of palaces - the Baroque style. Translated, “baroque” means “bizarre.” Palaces that are decorated in this way have always been considered a sign of power and authority and are distinguished by luxury and massiveness.

English palace in Baroque style

Distinctive features of the Baroque style:

  • dynamism,
  • pomp,
  • pomp,
  • solemnity.

This style of construction was intended for the organization of garden and park ensembles. All of them did not have clear forms.

In most cases, in this stylistic direction all kinds of building designs are merged. There are very interesting game colors and rather bold contrasts in large-scale construction. Buildings that were built in this way could have several floors, but, unlike classicism, they could be unevenly distributed throughout the palace. It is for this reason that one could find a terrace on the second floor, which was comfortably located on the “ceiling” of the first (the first floor protruded and created a platform for organizing such a balcony for relaxation).

All Baroque buildings are picturesque and decorative. Their design combines not only the architecture of that time, but also certain sculptural trends.

Baroque house

This style appeared after the Renaissance, and it did not follow all the acceptable directions and clear lines of buildings, as in the Renaissance style. Curvilinear lines and directions were present not only during construction, but also during design. There was a very rich decoration of the buildings with sculpture and modeling.

The design of the Winter Palace was designed in the direction of classicism or baroque. These two stylistic trends became very popular in those centuries due to their power and luxury.

The famous Winter Palace in St. Petersburg

Gothic style

This stylistic direction was quite often used for the construction of palace houses of the 13th-15th centuries. The building designs were distinguished by their brightness and unusual design.

Various techniques and means were used for finishing:

  • gilding,
  • stained glass,
  • natural stone,
  • glass and much more.

In the palace gothic style there is expressiveness and spiers rising above the roof of the building.

Gothic palace

Due to the fact that the roofs of the palaces had semicircular shapes made of glass, this significantly loaded the walls of the building, and they were cut into large windows. Sometimes their size reached the height of the wall itself. Thus, this stylistic design allowed the art of stained glass to develop well, since all the windows were designed this way. Due to this, the entire palace became bright and large.

The times when tsars, princes, barons and other titled persons lived in Russia have long since sunk into oblivion, and with them family estates and royal palaces have gone down into history. It's not fashionable now to have old house, in which several generations live at the same time, and which, over the course of many years, is inherited from hand to hand from great-grandfather to grandfather, from grandfather to father. Modern families want privacy and freedom, they want to live away from their parents. People are increasingly huddled in apartments that, like matchboxes, exchange, sell and buy. The maximum that can be found today is a parent's house, which, when the time comes, is sold without a twinge of conscience. There are, of course, positive notes in children’s independence, but at the same time, there is something sad about it. Constant omissions and even misunderstandings between fathers and children have been, are and will be. Distance and living separately will not solve all problems. But the closeness of relationships, the support of loved ones is lost irrevocably.

Today the palace project may seem something unexpected and unusual. But no one has canceled the desire for maximalism. Big houses in a palace design, overflowing with luxury and chic, they will delight not only their owners and their guests, but also those around them. Russia is full of palaces, buildings that have historical significance, but few of them are used for living and are passed on from generation to generation. Basically, such houses were transferred to the ownership of the state and turned into museums, libraries, and other institutions. And some simply collapse without proper care and repair. It's time to correct this pattern. It is necessary not only to restore old palaces, but also to build new ones. If you build such a house-palace, it is unlikely that your children or grandchildren will raise their hands as a result of selling it. After all, it will no longer be just a building, a structure, it will be a HOUSE with its own character and family history.

Project of a residence and palace in our time

A palace project or a residence project can be just as easily purchased as a garage or summer house project. Today nothing is impossible. The modern palace, of course, will have differences from its predecessors. First of all, these are more reliable and practical building materials, more convenient, progressive and economical communications. Although, there is something to learn from our ancestors. Many palaces stood for many years, and today they look decent. The palaces of St. Petersburg alone are worth it. Even today, the imperial palaces of Russia never cease to amaze us with their luxury and beauty. But then palace projects were made without computer programs and 3D images. Visualization was quite primitive compared to today's technology. The ideas for most palaces belong to foreign architects. Fortunately, today, in order to build a palace, it is not at all necessary to hire an overseas specialist architect. And we, in Russia, are full of smart and educated people. And who else will design a palace for the Russian land if not ours, the Russian people? No one knows better than we ourselves the peculiarities of our climate, the specifics of our soils, the amount of precipitation per year, and the peculiarities of people’s mentality. But, as before, residence projects can be made to order. An individual approach to the client allows us to approach his needs as correctly as possible and implement them in the project.

I really want our descendants to admire the architecture that we are creating today and now in 100, 500, 1000 years. And so that these would not only be tall skyscraper buildings, but also palaces of the 21st century - beautiful, strong, and luxurious. This way we can not only preserve, but also increase the architectural heritage of Russia.

Today there are various projects of elite estates and palaces. All of them differ not only in design, but also in the building materials that were used to bring them to life.

Palace style

When building a house, the most important thing is always to choose the optimal design of the structure. In most cases, they opt for classical forms buildings, and with a large number of finishing materials, the facade of the building acquires an original design.

Quite often in lately began to use the palace style in the construction of houses. Designs of this type are distinguished by their uniqueness. The buildings are powerful and fundamental. And here the most important thing is to choose the right stylistic direction.

A little history

Palaces were built for the rulers of past centuries. They looked pretty large buildings, which consisted of a significant number of rooms. The ceilings were very high. They reached 5-6 m in height. A mandatory attribute of the palace was a magnificent ballroom, which, as a rule, was located in the center of the building.

Used in construction different styles. The main ones were Baroque and Classicism. These stylistic directions be a little similar to each other, since similar ones are used decorative elements for decorating the walls of a building both inside and outside.

Basically, all the famous palaces were built in the 16th-20th centuries, when there was a tsarist or imperial regime of government. Not only the leaders themselves lived in the palace, but also all the staff.

For this reason, you can often find palaces with non-standard shape. For example, U-shaped or W-shaped, see photo. Square forms for such buildings were used quite rarely; servants lived in a separate wing.

Regarding interior design, then there was a wealth of colors and colors.

In general, preference was given to rich shades:

  • Golden.
  • Silver.
  • Purple.
  • White.
  • Brown.
  • Peschany.

The finishing materials were natural stone(marble, granite, sandstone) and decorative modeling from gypsum dough, which in its origin goes back to ancient times. When decorating the palace, it was painted with gold or silver paint.

Flights of stairs and individual decorative elements were made of marble or granite. Sandstone was also mainly a material for decoration, and on the ceiling or ceiling covering you can find original displays made of this natural stone.

Characteristic features of building a house in the palace style

The main feature of houses built in a palace style is their scale. It is for this reason that to erect a building of this type it is worth having a suburban area of the appropriate size. You can, of course, not go wild with the dimensions, but simply decorate the house in the style of a palace.

In this case, the stylistic design of the building is also used:

  • Empire style
  • Classicism.
  • Baroque.

Features of the structure:

  • It is worth noting that there is no point in building ceilings as high as those in the palaces, since heating will be quite expensive. Can be done standard ceilings up to 3 m, this best option during construction.
  • As for the number of floors, almost all palaces had two floors. On the first floor there were living rooms, offices, libraries, fireplace rooms and other functional and utility rooms. On the second floor there were already bedrooms for the owners of the palace with numerous balconies.
  • It is necessary to take into account that what makes a palace a unique structure is not only its scale, luxury of design, power and fundamentality, but also the design of the area around the building.
  • If earlier a variety of flower beds, garden crayfish with roses and benches for relaxation were planted around the palace, then at the moment, during the design of the site for a house in the palace style, the site can be decorated with various garden sculptures, only a little smaller in size than when decorating the palace area.

Types of palaces and their stylistic directions

Today, providing homes with heat and all necessary communications is quite simple and accessible.

Previously, due to difficulties in the heating process, all palaces were divided into:

  • Summer residences.
  • Winter residences.

The name of palaces of this type speaks for itself. Summer palaces were used for living in warm time years, and winter ones - in cold ones.

As a rule, summer residences were built in favorable regions. For example, there are a lot of palaces in Crimea or in the Old Russian region.

They also tried to locate the winter ones nearby so that it would be convenient to move between such unique houses.

The designs of the summer and winter palaces differed in their construction technology and building materials.

Summer residences of palaces

The designs of the summer palaces were quite simple. In most cases, they also had a large number of rooms, only the design included a huge number of greenhouses and “green” rooms.

They were usually built from light material:

  • Ground.
  • Clays.
  • Wood.
  • Light natural stones.

Each of these materials has its own technical characteristics.

Ground:

  • The earthen structure was used in the construction of castles of previous buildings.
  • The material is highly environmentally friendly and durable.
  • This type of building breathes and is cool in summer.
  • Another fresh flow of air masses is provided by large stained glass windows.
  • In winter, heating such rooms is not very easy.
  • But if you do it well, then temperature regime will keep very well for a long time long period time.

Clay:

  • Palaces made of clay have similar indicators as those with an earthen structure.
  • They are environmentally friendly and very durable buildings.
  • Under them it was necessary to build a kind of foundation - a foundation.
  • They were built from stones different breeds high strength.
  • The clay was in the form of bricks, which were formed using various and other rocks (sand, gravel, dry seaweed, and so on).
  • The designs of such buildings made it possible to build a palace of almost any shape.
  • This is where the U-shaped design of the palace came from.

Woody:

  • Wood was used quite often to build palaces.
  • It could be combined with other building materials.
  • High-quality wood was used for this construction.
  • She went through a long preparation process, sometimes it could take at least 12 months.

The logs were dried only by natural methods; after felling, they were cleared of bark, and only then were they placed under a canopy or simply lay on the street for 6 months.

Thus, the builders of that time ensured the gradual removal of moisture from the rock.

Because of this, the quality of the building material was only at a high level.

The logs are durable and practical; they were then hewn by hand.

As for the treatment, at that time they were coated with only insect repellents; there were no fire-fighting agents.

This process of drying and processing building materials such as logs is still used today.

Winter palaces and technologies for their construction

Winter palaces at that time were quite massive structures. They were built from natural stones.

As a rule, the following were used:

  • Rocks.
  • Sandstone.

Winter Palace projectcharacterized by the presence of not too many rooms for rest. The main rooms in it were fireplace rooms, of which there could be quite an impressive number along the entire perimeter of the palace.

More than one has already been used here durable materials in masonry:

  • Cement.
  • Cement with clay.
  • Concrete solution.
  • Concrete mortar with clay.

Peculiarities:

  • The stones were also processed. Used rocks only from ecologically clean natural regions. The stones had high strength and did not collapse under the influence of various weather and climatic conditions. It is for this reason that there are palaces of that time made of stone to this day, which are architectural monuments.
  • It is quite difficult to use natural stone in its original form. Therefore, stone craftsmen tried to give stones of this type certain rectilinear shapes. At the moment, brick, aerated concrete and foam concrete are produced in this form.
  • The basis was also natural stones, which were poured using foundation construction technology concrete mortar. Previously, the use of reinforcement was quite rare, since the area for the construction of the palace was carefully chosen. The soil had to be ordinary (chernozem). Such structures have never been erected on floating or “undermined” soils.

Very often they used piles for the foundation. But the depth of the foundation was not too great.

Winter palaces were decorated in a warmer shade. IN finishing works marble, granite, and crumbs of such materials were used. Plaster modeling was very common, which was borrowed from ancient culture. Stained glass windows could be skillfully painted.

The windows were also large. Only here there were already two glazed frames, which ensured a normal and constant temperature in the room. To prevent the floors from being cold, layers of dry seaweed and straw were laid underneath them, and everything was covered with clay.

The number of floors of such buildings could be any. Very often, winter residences were built on one floor so as not to waste a large amount of heating energy. Although, in most cases there were second floors that had their own heating system in the form of fireplaces.

Modern houses in palace style

At the moment there are no restrictions on construction residential building. A palace style house should have suburban area quite massive in size. The design can be represented by elements of classicism or baroque.

Empire style:

  • The Empire style style is not particularly popular.
  • All this is due to the fact that the style of this direction has rather aggressive features and dark shades of design.
  • The palaces that were designed in this way had a formidable appearance and pointed roof shapes; peaks could also be located on them.

A palace-style house can be built today from:

  • Brick.
  • Foam concrete.
  • Aerated concrete.

As finishing material modern decorative elements are used, for example:

  • Decorative stone.
  • Natural stone.
  • Plastic linings with imitation wood or stone.

When building a house in the palace style, do not forget about the gypsum molding that was used on the facade walls of the structure and inside.

A mandatory attribute of the palace style are windows, which must also be large size. If the structure has a second floor, then it can be full or in the form mansard roof. Only here it is also worth considering that the palaces were full-story buildings.

THANK YOU so much for the very useful information in the article. Everything is presented very clearly. It feels like a lot of work has been done to analyze the operation of the eBay store

    • Thank you and other regular readers of my blog. Without you, I would not be motivated enough to dedicate much time to maintaining this site. My brain is structured this way: I like to dig deep, systematize scattered data, try things that no one has done before or looked at from this angle. It’s a pity that our compatriots have no time for shopping on eBay because of the crisis in Russia. They buy from Aliexpress from China, since goods there are much cheaper (often at the expense of quality). But online auctions eBay, Amazon, ETSY will easily give the Chinese a head start in the range of branded items, vintage items, handmade items and various ethnic goods.

What is valuable in your articles is your personal attitude and analysis of the topic. Don't give up this blog, I come here often. There should be a lot of us like that. Email me I recently received an email with an offer that they would teach me how to trade on Amazon and eBay. And I remembered your detailed articles about these trades. area I re-read everything again and concluded that the courses are a scam. I haven't bought anything on eBay yet. I am not from Russia, but from Kazakhstan (Almaty). But we also don’t need any extra expenses yet. I wish you good luck and stay safe in Asia.

  • It’s also nice that eBay’s attempts to Russify the interface for users from Russia and the CIS countries have begun to bear fruit. After all, the overwhelming majority of citizens of the countries of the former USSR do not have strong knowledge of foreign languages. No more than 5% of the population speak English. There are more among young people. Therefore, at least the interface is in Russian - this is a big help for online shopping on this trading platform. eBay did not follow the path of its Chinese counterpart Aliexpress, where a machine (very clumsy and incomprehensible, sometimes causing laughter) translation of product descriptions is performed. I hope that at a more advanced stage of development of artificial intelligence, high-quality machine translation from any language to any in a matter of seconds will become a reality. So far we have this (the profile of one of the sellers on eBay with a Russian interface, but an English description):
