Mug stand. It seems like such a small thing that you can live without. But your furniture doesn't think so. Just look at what remains on the furniture after hot, after wet, after wet and hot. If you have significant experience in this matter, you will at least have good furniture and if you are in your right mind, you will probably think about a mug stand. So, since this topic is so relevant, it means that we too could not ignore it. In this article we will offer you several options for making a mug stand with your own hands.

DIY mug stand using decoupage technique (master – class 1)

We will offer you the first option for making a mug stand using the decoupage technique. This technique is quite popular, as it is accessible to everyone, can transform any object and requires a minimum of materials, and not expensive ones at that. So let's start with it. First we need to stock up on materials. As we said, they are affordable.
A napkin, an ordinary napkin of which we use thousands. It’s better with any image that you like;
The blanks are platforms that are best moisture resistant. Size 10 * 10 cm. In our case there are 2 of them, that is, we will make 2 stands at once;
White acrylic paint;
Glossy acrylic varnish for decoupage;
PVA glue.
We will also need dishes, scissors, and a sponge.

Let's start producing our creation. Workplace We first cover it with oilcloth, otherwise this is the case: while making something protective for furniture, you can spoil this very furniture, which will negate all your efforts. It is better to cover the table with oilcloth so as not to stain it. We put the blanks, take a sponge, dip it in acrylic paint.
Then everything is as usual. We take paint and cover our areas with paint. If one layer is not enough, then wait until the first layer dries and cover with the second.

After all layers have dried, continue. Turn it over to the other side and carry out a similar procedure. As a result, we get two white blank areas.

Before using napkins, they must be prepared. Napkins with a pattern are multi-layered, but for decoupage only the most upper layer. That is why the napkin must be dissolved into layers. Separate the top layer.

Now we move on to preparing the adhesive mixture. In fact, it is PVA glue with water, in a ratio of 1: 1. The result is a white liquid, which, in principle, is quite expected from such a mixture.
Now we saturate the area with glue and apply a napkin to it. The napkin will become very tender from moisture, which means you need to handle it carefully. Don't tear it. We soak the napkin that was placed with glue on the outside.

After the napkin is completely attached, we wrap it around the entire area so that its entire surface at the top, bottom and ends are covered. Carefully tear off the excess area of the napkin. We also press the edges to the surface of the site. This way, the tears and ends of the napkin will be almost invisible.

After the entire stand is covered with a napkin, wait until the glue is completely dry. After it has dried, it is necessary to coat the stand with acrylic varnish, preferably from an aerosol can, which will ensure uniform coverage. The varnish, firstly, will protect our glue from moisture, thereby preserving the appearance of the stand, and secondly, it will give it some gloss and gloss, that is, it will make the appearance of the stand more attractive.

Our second blank went through the same procedures. As a result, we received 2 wonderful coasters for mugs, made by ourselves.

DIY mug stand made of colored felt (master – class 2)

The second option for making a mug stand is no less interesting and no less attractive. The stand also turns out to be practical, beautiful and easy to manufacture.
The stand will be made of felt, and its parts will be sewn together. It follows from this that we need felt, a needle and thread, scissors and a little patience and skill.

Preliminarily think about what you would like to do, use your imagination. Perhaps it will be an apple, as in our case, or maybe a watermelon, and someone will think about something other than edible...
We carefully consider all the details and apply them to the felt from which they will be cut.

We cut out the parts with ordinary but sharp scissors.

In order to imagine what our coasters will look like, and also to try on the parts in place, we first fasten the felt parts together with needles. As a result, if necessary, we change their location and begin to secure the elements to the base.

The parts are fastened together with thread and stitches. If you have a sewing machine or overlocker, then the parts can be fastened using these devices.

Small parts, of course, will have to be attached manually, since there is no other way to get to them.

Here, for example, are the seeds on an apple...

So, detail by detail, we get the final composition for our mug stand.

In the end, we take out our needles and admire the resulting stand.

It should be noted that you should not make a stand that is too multi-layered, as it will lie unevenly on the surface due to large quantities layers of felt and have heterogeneity in thickness.

If you fill the stand with tea, it’s not a big deal. You can just wash and dry it, that's all.

DIY mug stand made of wood (master – class 3)

We will offer you another version of the stand to make from natural materials. In our case, the stands are sawn from birch, or even better if it is juniper. The smell will be simply unforgettable, especially if you warm it up with a hot mug.
...just take a log required diameter and saw with the selected thickness.

It is better to cut the log in one go, and from one corner, so that there are no steps on the stand. The stand can be sanded and coated with acrylic varnish.

We also remove the bark that is clearly falling off the stand. It turns out very beautiful and practical.

DIY mug stand made of wood (master – class 4)

We won't stop there and will offer you another option. If you are "friends" with sewing machine, then you can do this option. We take scraps of fabric, 16 wedge-shaped sectors in total. We squeeze them into a circle, that is, so that they become closed.

As a result, we should have a set of top, bottom, and in the middle there is foil and something dense, say felt.

We sew all this together, tucking the edges of the stand inward. The result is a very cute and homey coaster for hot items, including a mug.

You see how many options we have offered you for making a mug stand with your own hands, and there will be even more options not described. They are only limited by your imagination, desire and time. Even what you have on hand can become a useful and practical stand. So the Lego constructor is quite suitable for this...

Therefore, do not be afraid to experiment, maybe your version will be even more beautiful, convenient and practical.

You can experiment and make a New Year's stand for a cup, and at the same time master the technique of decoupage with spraying. A DIY cup stand can be a great New Year gift. And our master class will help you do it.

The drawing on the napkin will be used for decoupage. For those who are preparing for the New Year: cheerful gnomes carrying a spruce tree - the perfect picture. Moreover, this image is on a white background, it will be easy for even a beginner to work with.

Take a foam sponge and white acrylic paint. Color in White color stand on one side. Set it aside to let the paint dry and then apply another coat.

When the acrylic paint has dried well, arm yourself with a solid office glue in pencil. Apply glue to the entire prepared surface of the stand; simply run a pencil along the white side. Try to keep the layer of glue thin and even.

Cut out an even square from a napkin, with the image in the center. The size of the square should be the same as the stand being decorated. Carefully layer the napkin; you will see that it consists of 3 layers and the pattern is applied only to the top layer. You won't need the two white bottom layers. Place the cut piece on the stand so that the edges match. note that sticky layer The glue will not allow you to move the fragment, so try to apply it evenly the first time.

It is best if you do not immediately start applying the fragment flat. And from one side of the stand to the other, not forgetting to press the napkin with your fingers so that it sticks firmly to the glue.

Coat the top of the glued fragment with any acrylic varnish. Now the decoupage is finished and it is protected from various damages varnish.

How to make splashes in decoupage?

Let's start spraying, that is, creating picturesque droplets around the decoupage. Everything is also very easy: select the necessary colors of acrylic paints that you want to see on the motif and an old toothbrush.

First, dip the brush in green paint and run your finger along the bristles, placing the decoupage underneath. Small splashes of paint will drip onto the image. Then repeat the same with a different color of acrylic.

When the drops have dried, make a small frame for your decoupage: place colored or shiny dots around the perimeter of the stand using any acrylic outline.

Don’t forget that always, after finishing decorating using the spray decoupage technique, the work needs to be varnished.

I hope that your first experiment was a success and that the “Gnomes” cup stand will be used in everyday life. When decoupage is mastered, you can now try to create
