  3. Lastly, we cut out a square of fabric, taking into account that its edges should go to the back side for fixation.
  4. Now we assemble the squares in this order - plywood, foam rubber, batting, fabric.
  5. Fasten the fabric to back side products using a stapler.
  6. We prepare a base from plywood, MDF or durable cardboard according to the size of all the squares folded together.

The following materials are used for screeding:

  • buttons covered with fabric;
  • massive beads;
  • crystals.

Step-by-step description of how to make an upholstered carriage headboard:

  • Cut out the plywood and foam rubber to the desired shape.
  • We make markings on plywood or a board with holes in accordance with the screed pattern - in the form of squares or diamonds (diamond mesh). On the finished board you just need to mark the holes needed for the job, on plywood - drill them.
  • Prepare paper on which we make exactly the same markings.
  • We place paper on top of the foam rubber and mark the holes using a marker.
  • The most important step is to make holes in the marked places. To do this, use a knife.
  • Foam rubber needs to be glued to plywood or board rubber glue so that the holes of both materials coincide.
  • A layer of padding polyester is glued onto the foam rubber, on which you need to make holes according to the same markings.
  • Carefully stretch the fabric and fix it with a furniture stapler. At complex forms headboard, you also need to use a needle and thread, pulling the fabric from the center and evenly distributing it to the edges.
  • Cover the buttons with fabric or leave them as is - it all depends on the design of the buttons.
  • We sew the finished buttons into the designated sockets and secure them with strong threads - starting from the center, continuing horizontally on both sides.
  • It is difficult to fix the thread on the plywood; it is better to use the same stapler staples. We entangle the thread between them and securely fasten them. The headboard is ready!

Headboard made of patchwork pillows

How to make a patchwork bed headboard

It's beautiful and originalpatchwork bed headboard, in my opinion, would look cool in a guest or children's bedroom.

To make it, you can use colorful patterned or plain fabrics. By choosing the appropriate tones, colors and patterns, such a patchwork bed can be fitted into any existing setting.

And finally, the most important thing is that a patchwork headboard is very easy to make...

I came across a similar recipe and took the time to try it, which I don’t regret.

In the example in the photo, green, orange and white fabrics were used for patchwork pillows, which goes well with general color in the bedroom.

About making a backrest from patchwork pillows

We will need:

— 2 sheets of 19mm plywood
- Saw, hacksaw or something similar (you can ask to cut the squares of your men)
— High density foam rubber.
— Batting
- Glue.
— 1 meter of fabric in each of four colors
- Scissors
— Stapler and 8mm staples
— Adhesive tape
— Screwdriver and approximately 35 screws
— Two fastenings — hangers on the wall.

To begin, we cut one sheet of plywood into pieces 200 x 200 or take ready-made ones.

We cut foam rubber and batting into pieces 200 x 200 mm.

We cut the fabric into pieces 300 x 300 mm.

Now some explanations for the instruction picture:

1 Take a piece of plywood 200 x 200 mm and glue foam rubber onto it so that it does not slip.

2. Add a layer of batting and fabric.

3. We get three layers, laid face down on the work surface.

4. Pull the fabric along the edges, first on one side, tuck in the excess and punch it with a stapler.

Pull the fabric to a stiff, but not too tight surface, first on opposite corners of the pillow. Then we fold the corners and carefully punch them.

We repeat this on all sides and catch the pillow, making sure not to overtighten it too much.

5 Follow steps 1-4 and get 40 patchwork pillows.

I want to say that it is easier to work according to a template, it turns out faster and more convenient.

6. Place all pillows face down. We twist them around the perimeter so that they do not fall apart. Then we take the second uncut piece of plywood, align it and secure each pillow through it with screws. You need to mark the places where you should tighten the screws and choose a screw number so that you don’t pierce the plywood on the cushions right through, otherwise you might get hurt later.

And finally on back wall We attach hanging loops to the headboard and everything is ready for installation.

If you don’t want to hang the patchwork headboard on the wall, you can do it differently. We attach two legs to it that are slightly lower than the bed. And then we simply install it between the wall and the standard headboard...

The original appearance of your bedroom is guaranteed!

The background to the creation of the headboard was as follows. On the one hand, I didn’t want to pay several thousand euros for an Italian or French bed, but on the other hand, I really wanted to create something special. And then it was decided that we would make the bed ourselves. So, I’ll show you how the process of creating this beautiful bed went.

I formulated the problem like this. We need to make a bed with a fairly wide base with removable cover and with a figured headboard.
First, a whole collection of headboards was assembled. After reviewing it, a shortlist was formed, which was analyzed for the complexity of implementation on site. As a result of weighing all the pros and cons, a prototype of the future headboard was chosen.

So now everything is in order.

1. We ordered a prefabricated MDF bed frame. Previously, two orthopedic bases were transferred to the workshop, purchased from IKEA, the dimensions of which were starting point to calculate sizes.

2. Cut out the shape of the headboard.

3. Dismantle the headboard and start upholstering it. Foam rubber 5 cm thick was pre-cut in the workshop according to a pattern taken from the headboard shape. We apply foam rubber to the headboard and fix it with glue (special glue for foam rubber) in several places.

4. Use a furniture stapler to nail the edges of the foam rubber to the plywood.

5. We proceed directly to stretching the fabric. We start from the bottom to fix the fabric evenly, then place the headboard vertically and stretch the fabric. To go around the corners, we cut the fabric.

6. Place the headboard vertically and check the symmetry and uniform tension of the fabric.
7. Let's start working with furniture nails. First we upholster the outer edge.

8. Make chalk markings for the second line of furniture nails. To mark this line, we first punch it with a furniture stapler.

9. Along the line marked with a stapler, we nail the nails of the furniture tape.

10. On the reverse side we cover everything with technical fabric.

11. Let's start with the frame. We cover the outer perimeter and the upper surface of the frame with foam rubber.

12. We make a pattern for technical fabric, which will be fixed under the finishing removable cover.

13. Using a furniture stapler, we nail the technical fabric on the top and bottom sides of the frame.

14. Making a pattern for a removable cover.

15. Nail one part of the Velcro to the frame. The second half will be sewn directly to the cover.

16. Check how the cover fits and adjust if necessary.

The quilted headboard cover can be made from the same fabric from which you made the bedspread and draperies, or try combining several different fabrics. If you want the cover to emphasize the strict shape of the headboard, take a non-bright, plain satin. The cover will look better if you make a lining from metcal, specially treated against shrinkage, which, however, can be replaced with an old sheet.

In order to find out what size your headboard is, take a cellophane film and apply it to the headboard, circle the front and back of the headboard with a marker. Then cut out both pieces and get the desired size and shape, which can be adjusted depending on what you want. We pin the parts to the fabric with needles, but remember that this natural size and you need to make a seam allowance of 1.5-2 cm.

If your bed is close to the wall, then the back part does not have to be made of the main fabric; you can replace it with a cheaper one. Then the front part of the case can be decorated as follows: draw out the part with squares or diamonds. Then, cut out the lining (you can use padding polyester) and the bottom piece, chop off all three parts and stitch along the lines you drew. You can also sew buttons at the intersection of lines, after stitching, cover them with the main fabric and sew them on, you can sew on rhinestones or beads, as you like.

Next, measure the thickness and length along the top and sides of your headboard. Now cut a straight strip width = thickness + seam allowance, length = length along the top and side edges + seam allowance. We sew this strip with one side to the main fabric, the other to the fabric that will be your back.

On the front and back halves of the headboard, do not forget to add 5 cm to each part below.

That’s it, turn it inside out and put it on, the bottom of the fabric can be carefully stapled or hemmed by hand. Your headboard is ready, truly beautiful!!!

The headboard of the bed is an integral part of bedroom furniture. It not only makes the furniture comfortable, but also plays an important role in the interior of the bedroom.

You can always rely on this detail. After all, we all love to watch TV with a cup of tea before going to bed. It is much more comfortable to do this while sitting.

To do this, you need a support, which is the headboard.

It also protects the wall and wallpaper from rubbing, which will preserve the freshness and beauty of the finish.

You can make a headboard with your own hands for:

  • soft;
  • figured;
  • in the technique of carriage screed;
  • from shreds;
  • from pillows and so on.

Upholstered headboard for bed

Let us present to you the simplest option that any man can do. Even those who do not have construction skills.

In order to make a soft headboard in rectangular shape you need:

  • a rectangular piece of plywood (can be replaced with any shape, so the head of the bed will have a different shape);
  • thick fabric;
  • foam;
  • padding polyester;
  • construction stapler.

You will spend a maximum of 3 hours on such beauty, and if you do it more than one, then even less.

How to make a soft headboard for a bed

We take a plywood sheet, preferably thicker, and put two layers of foam rubber on it.

We take an unnecessary piece of fabric, place it on plywood and foam rubber so that it extends beyond their edges by about 15-20 centimeters, and fasten it with a stapler.

On top of the fabric we staple a beautiful flap that matches your home interior.

As you can see, the method is quite simple and fast, so in a few hours you will transform your bedroom.

DIY figured headboard

This headboard will also be soft, but will have a special relief that will add chic and richness.

For it we will need:

It is better to choose a universal construction adhesive that can easily glue fabric and foam rubber.

We need chalk or soap to mark the fabric in order to cut out an even piece.

How to make a curved headboard

You need to start with a sketch from which you will make your drawing and markings. It can be of any shape. Usually a light relief is made.

If you have the necessary skills, you can cut out flowers and other patterns, but this is a rather difficult task.

We cut out our drawn blank from plywood, foam rubber and fabric. It’s worth first trying on a paper blank so that it fits into a common room or another room.

We do the same steps with the fabric.

Raise the head of the bed horizontally and start pulling the fabric from the back using staples.

Make cuts in the fabric so that it can perfectly match the relief of the plywood headboard.

Decorate the upholstery with furniture nails, securing them 1 centimeter from the edge of the head of the bed.

To make the second line decorative decoration using carnations, make markings with chalk, stepping back about 10 centimeters from the first line.

Nail the nails along the marked line.

Cover the back side with an unnecessary piece of fabric, securing it with a stapler.

Attach the headboard to the bed or wall. You can also simply place it on the floor near the edge of the bed, leaning against the wall.

Quilted headboard using carriage screed technique

Such a headboard will be soft and can be found quite often in many stores. This is considered modern and interesting design beds.

We need all the same materials:

  • plywood;
  • foam;
  • stapler with staples;
  • air gun;
  • padding polyester;
  • textile;
  • cord;
  • big buttons with fabric surface.

We take plywood and coat it with glue. Then we glue foam rubber to it, the thickness of which should be at least 5 centimeters.

We put large leaf paper and draw button holes on it. It is advisable to make them evenly around the entire perimeter.

Cut holes in paper or cardboard.

We apply the sheet to the foam rubber and use a felt-tip pen to outline the holes.

To transfer the holes to the foam rubber, you need to use a drill with an attachment.

You can glue padding polyester onto the foam rubber by making exactly the same holes as we did on the foam rubber.

If desired, you can do without padding polyester. It just makes the headboard softer.

We stretch the upholstery material and use a drill to make holes to the very end, since we will pull the cords on the buttons through the entire layer.

We pull the cord through the buttons and thread them through the hole. For convenience, you can use some kind of hook.

Tighten the cords well so that the buttons fit snugly against the upholstery of the head of the bed. We secure the ropes with a stapler.

Upholstered bed headboard made of rags

If you don't want to spend money on a large piece of upholstery material, you can replace it with various scraps.

This could be old jeans, dresses or any other clothing. Thus, this method It will turn out to be very profitable and economical.

We need:

  • 2 sheets of plywood;
  • saw;
  • scissors;
  • filler for the headboard (foam rubber or synthetic winterizer);
  • scraps of fabric;
  • glue and adhesive tape;
  • stapler;
  • screwdriver;
  • self-tapping screws

How to make a soft headboard from scraps

We draw a sheet of plywood into squares or rectangles. Next, take a saw or hacksaw and start cutting out these shapes.

We cut the foam rubber or padding polyester into the same shapes, but cut out a piece of fabric a few centimeters larger.

We glue each layer: plywood - foam rubber - fabric. The fabric should be stretched quite tightly so that wrinkles do not form. This can be done in the same way.

Secure the fabric again with a stapler to be secure.

Thus, we make all the shapes, creating elements of a soft headboard for a bed from scraps.

We lay out all the squares on the floor with their front sides, forming the future headboard. We glue them together with adhesive tape.

We take the second plywood and put it on our squares. Using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws, we attach each pad to a plywood sheet.

Select the length of the screw in advance so that it does not go through and damage the head of the bed.

Everything is ready! You can attach it to the bed or wall, or just prop it nearby.

DIY headboard for a bed made from pillows

For this we will need many small pillows. It depends on their number, size and the desired size of the headboard.

We take pillows, which can be of different colors or plain ones, and sew them to one another at the corners.

You can attach the pillows to the wall using glue or nails. The glue in this case will be the best solution, as the nail may eventually rip through the cushion.

This will damage your headboard and may cause injury. Another great way attach the pillows to the curtain rod.

It can also work as a headboard for a bed. It's just as easy to make and looks gorgeous.

Also great idea may become decorative fence. This option will not appeal to everyone, but rather to those who like to hang things on the head of the bed.

If you are not afraid of rigidity, then build a headboard from regular boards. Paint it or write your names, drawings, etc.

If you can draw beautifully, then you are lucky. You can create a fairy tale in your room.

Draw a fantastic headboard on the wall, wallpaper or graphite board. An unimaginable impression will be created.

Place a sheet of plywood on your table. Go over it with 180-grit sandpaper on both sides, 3 to 4 times on each section of the surface, front and back. Repeat the process with 200 or 220 grit sandpaper.

  • Sweep away dust with a brush. Wipe the surface thoroughly with a cleaning cloth.
  • Apply adhesive spray to the front surface of the plywood. Glue 5cm wide foam onto it. Follow the instructions on the adhesive package during application and drying to ensure the foam adheres well.
  • Your foam rubber is unlikely to cover the entire surface of the back in the size it comes in the package. You may have to glue several pieces of foam side by side vertically or horizontally to cover the entire front.

Use electric carving knife to cut off excess foam. Plug it into an outlet and then place it flush with the edge of the plywood before turning it on. Work around the perimeter slowly, making the shape of the headboard even and professional.

Place a layer of batting on top part foam rubber after it has dried. Batting is a material used to fill blankets and pillows. Trim the batting to a margin of 15 cm on each side.

Move one end of the plywood so that it hangs over the edge of the table. Lie on your back under the plywood. Have a friend hold the batting to prevent wrinkles while you attach it to the back of the headboard.

Attach the batting to the plywood using staples. Pull the batting tightly over the edge of the headboard and then attach it to the back surface. Repeat this process around the entire perimeter of the plywood every 2.54 cm until you have trimmed the entire back.

  • When you upholster the corners, make a fold in the batting on one side of the corner and pull it down. It's similar to how you would wrap a gift. Pull tightly and secure with 3 to 4 staples. Trim off excess batting.
  • Place the faux leather on top of the batting. Lay it evenly so that there is a margin of 5 - 10 cm around the entire perimeter of the back of the plywood. If you need to sew several pieces of leather together, you can do this by hand or using an upholstery needle on a sewing machine.

  • Start attaching the fabric from artificial leather in the center of one of the sides. Work your way around the sides of the fabric, leaving the corners for later. Pull the fabric, but not so hard that the fabric begins to warp.

    • Return to the corners when you've finished all sides of the plywood. Stretch one side of the fabric in the corner and pin along the edges on both sides of the corner. Fold the other side of the fabric at a 90-degree angle, stretch and staple. You should end up with a corner with one even fold of fabric. Repeat this procedure with the remaining corners.
    • If you have rounded corners, you will need to fold the fabric similar to how you would fold a sheet under a mattress. Secure all sides of the headboard first before working on the corners. Pinch the skin in the center of the fold and pull down. Secure this area with a staple. Pinch and pull the fabric down along both edges of the fold, creating even lines.

      THANK YOU so much for the very useful information in the article. Everything is presented very clearly. It feels like a lot of work has been done to analyze the operation of the eBay store

      • Thank you and other regular readers of my blog. Without you, I would not be motivated enough to dedicate much time to maintaining this site. My brain is structured this way: I like to dig deep, systematize scattered data, try things that no one has done before or looked at from this angle. It’s a pity that our compatriots have no time for shopping on eBay because of the crisis in Russia. They buy from Aliexpress from China, since goods there are much cheaper (often at the expense of quality). But online auctions eBay, Amazon, ETSY will easily give the Chinese a head start in the range of branded items, vintage items, handmade items and various ethnic goods.

          What is valuable in your articles is your personal attitude and analysis of the topic. Don't give up this blog, I come here often. There should be a lot of us like that. Email me I recently received an email with an offer to teach me how to trade on Amazon and eBay. And I remembered your detailed articles about these trades. area I re-read everything again and concluded that the courses are a scam. I haven't bought anything on eBay yet. I am not from Russia, but from Kazakhstan (Almaty). But we also don’t need any extra expenses yet. I wish you good luck and stay safe in Asia.

    • It’s also nice that eBay’s attempts to Russify the interface for users from Russia and the CIS countries have begun to bear fruit. After all, the overwhelming majority of citizens of the countries of the former USSR do not have strong knowledge of foreign languages. No more than 5% of the population speak English. There are more among young people. Therefore, at least the interface is in Russian - this is a big help for online shopping on this trading platform. eBay did not follow the path of its Chinese counterpart Aliexpress, where a machine (very clumsy and incomprehensible, sometimes causing laughter) translation of product descriptions is performed. I hope that at a more advanced stage of development of artificial intelligence, high-quality machine translation from any language to any in a matter of seconds will become a reality. So far we have this (the profile of one of the sellers on eBay with a Russian interface, but an English description):
