Floristry is one of the types of applied art. It allows you to create masterpieces from natural materials. The result is collages, bouquets, panels, compositions. This art direction allows you to express your creativity and learn technical techniques. Only flowers and leaves are used in this work.

Beginning florists should try making simple arrangements in the form of bouquets. For a creative person, such a hobby can become a real passion. It is very easy to create unusual works from natural materials by following the lessons and advice of experienced florists. There are no identical flowers or leaves in nature, so the work always turns out to be unique.

Getting started with flowers

After watching the lesson on making bouquets, you immediately need to think about what to make it from.

Choose the right material

You can use both live and dry ingredients. Materials are divided into categories: exotic, field and others. There are plants that will universally fit into any bouquet. For example, Irises or Sunflowers.

I mainly use the following materials:

Some plants don't go well together. They tend to release substances into the water that poison other plants. It is customary to keep roses, carnations and lilies separately from others.

Gift bouquets have their own characteristics. Flowers have always had their own meaning. The colors also convey a certain message. Even the packaging matters.

Using too many different flowers (more than 4 types) makes the arrangement look heavy, cluttered or too rustic. A bouquet from a novice florist should be different from a selection of wildflowers.

Etiquette in floristry is increasingly developing. More and more attention is being paid to it. If flowers can convey the feelings of the giver, then the composition can have the meaning of a full-fledged postcard.

According to the canons of design in any field, the ideal combination is three primary colors. With regard to arranging bouquets, this rule also applies. A beginner will demonstrate good taste if he sticks to a modest color palette.

The quality of flowers, especially fresh ones, is a very important factor. The arranged bouquet will look careless if there are spots on the leaves or the stem is limp. There are tricks to keep fresh flowers in good condition: store at a suitable temperature, cut the stems at an angle, clear them of leaves and shoots to the water level. The cut needs to be renewed sometimes - the flowers will last longer.

Bouquets of dried flowers have a number of advantages:

  • Durable.
  • Simple composition design.
  • No additional care required.
  • They stand without water in a vase or even in wooden blanks.
  • Additional coloring adds brightness and uniqueness to the bouquet.
  • Dark corners of the house are suitable so that the bouquet does not fade.

Select song

There are several basic compositions that will help beginners assemble bouquets of fresh and dried flowers very quickly and efficiently.

  1. Using Similar Colors. This technique of making bouquets is the most popular among non-professionals. Peonies, irises, Dutch roses, Dutch roses, lilacs, violets are easy to arrange.
  2. The struggle and unity of opposites in contrasting compositions. They turn out to be one of the most spectacular and brightest. Using basic colors makes bouquets interesting. Making bouquets from fresh flowers will be especially simple and interesting for beginners. Contrast can be achieved through light and dark shades.
  3. Combination of different colors one saturation. For this I use a tint circle. There are special computer programs that allow you to see the colors that match a particular shade. This helps artists and web designers work. A novice florist can train his sense of color thanks to them.
  4. Combination of colors of the same color, but in different shades. The bouquet looks like a gradient.

Composition is also affected by the shape and size of objects. They must be proportional to each other.

Tools for beginner florists

All these items are needed to get started. With experience, you can choose other devices.

Styles in the art of floristry

Formolinear style, characterized by a restrained amount of materials and shapes. The bouquet consists of only one flowers.

Massive style is an arrangement characterized by large shapes and soft lines. First, the main part of the bouquet is composed, and then all the voids are filled in to achieve smooth lines.

Creative floristry - non-standard forms are used and priority is given to the uniqueness of the product.

Mixed style is the combination of several styles into unusual compositions.

Bouquets for women are more streamlined and round, while bouquets for men are more elongated.

  3. The stems of the flowers should be at an angle of 45 degrees in relation to each other.
  4. We fill the bouquet until it is the desired volume. Now you can secure it with floral tape. Close the fixation with a satin ribbon.

The range of modern stores is simply huge. Almost any flower can be purchased all year round, which opens up unlimited possibilities for florists. A bouquet in one color scheme looks gentle. It's easy to make yourself.

Garden flowers are suitable for bouquets, which are often used as gifts. Field plants allow you to create a romantic composition. Exotic plants will make the bouquet bright and unusual.

Mono compositions also look beautiful. In them, flowers of one type occupy about 80% of the bouquet, the remaining plants are used as a background, complement or contrast. Properly selected packaging plays an important role in design.

Photos of DIY bouquets

There is always a reason to give flowers. Holiday, birthday, wedding, family celebration - no matter how luxurious a gift is given for these events, it will be incomplete without “floral accompaniment”. Even a modest bouquet of fresh flowers with your own hands evokes the most incredible emotions, especially if it can speak in a special “secret” language.

Symbolism of flower arrangements

Not only does each plant individually mean certain feelings, but also the combination of several species with each other. For example, a single scarlet rose expresses passion, but next to white and pink buds, it can be interpreted as suggesting a serious relationship based on love and trust. It is interesting that it is generally not recommended for established, fairly old people to give the “queen of gardens”, either in a single copy or in mono-bouquets. This is considered overly playful.

Only in early youth is it appropriate to give spring lilac compositions. Her lush brushes indicate the birth of first love. More mature and less ephemeral feelings are expressed with a bouquet of tulips, irises and chrysanthemums.

The combination of lilies and eustoma can be perceived as a hidden compliment to girlish beauty. Camellias, peony roses or gardenias also speak of the admirer's admiration. But if the bouquet arrangement consists mainly of exotic flowers, then the girl to whom it is addressed is considered unusual and stands out from the crowd.

You should be careful when giving daffodils, yellow carnations, and petunia to your loved ones and loved ones - these plants symbolize negative feelings.

Flowers of the first freshness

The beauty of living plants is fully revealed only if they are perfectly fresh. Buds losing their elasticity, drooping, matte leaves, and other signs of wilting immediately destroy the favorable impression. To prevent this from happening, the plants need to be properly prepared.

Cutting and “drinking regime”

If the components for the arrangement are collected in your own garden, it is advisable to choose a clear, dry day and start cutting in the early morning or evening, after the sun has set. You can store the “harvest” in a cool room or on a refrigerator shelf at a temperature of +5ºС. Before you start assembling the bouquet, the plants are well saturated with water, especially when you plan to make the composition on their own stems.

To prevent rapid fading you need to:

  1. Remove the lower leaves, and the roses also have thorns, otherwise they will rot in the water.
  2. Make an oblique cut on the stems, holding them under water (this way no air will get inside). Use only a stationery knife, and not scissors, which crush the capillary mesh.
  3. The dense stems of roses and other shrub plants require additional notching to effectively absorb water.
  4. Hydrangea can be “invigorated” with boiling water. The stem is immersed in it for 15 - 20 minutes. Then the part standing in the boiling water is removed, and the inflorescences, thanks to the procedure, “live” much longer.
  5. The cut on the stems of dahlias and peonies is burned on fire, otherwise they will release toxins.

The water in which the flowers stand must at least be filtered. It’s better to use a well or rainwater.

Neighborhood

There are plants that literally destroy their “companions” in a bouquet arrangement and, conversely, are some kind of resuscitators. The former include daffodils, hyacinths, lilies of the valley and sweet peas. The second ones include geranium, juniper, cypress and thuja.

It is highly undesirable to combine bulbous and woody plants. The exception is roses and lilies, they do not affect each other in any way and look very harmonious when paired. In general, the “queen of gardens” can hardly stand the proximity of not only other flowers, but also their “relatives”, which differ in variety or color. Roses of different shades are kept in separate containers and added to the arrangement immediately before the special event.

Food floristry also requires some caution. Ripe fruits: apples, pears, figs, often used in flower arrangements, emit ethylene, a gas that accelerates the ripening process. Roses, delphinium, tulips and carnations, being next to them, quickly fade and crumble.

Rules for composing successful bouquet arrangements

Even so-called free arrangements that do not have strict geometry are built according to certain laws. Otherwise, it is no longer creativity, but chaos. When making bouquets of fresh flowers with your own hands, you should consider that:

  1. The largest and brightest buds are located in the center, and the light ones are closer to the edges. This makes the bouquet arrangement seem more voluminous.
  2. There should not be a lot of decorative greenery; attention is drawn primarily to the flower buds.
  3. It is advisable that the inflorescences are not located close to each other, otherwise they will be difficult to see.
  4. Plants should be given a natural position, without trying to bend or twist them forcibly. It is also recommended to vary the height of the arrangement components.
  5. It is important to use flowers at different stages of ripening: from tightly closed buds to almost fully opened specimens.

The listed rules are allowed to be violated if the result is harmonious and effective.

Bouquets for all occasions

Living plants are good everywhere and always. Unlike analogues made from fabric or polymer clay, their perfect beauty is created by nature itself. All that remains is to put in a little effort and skillfully emphasize it. The most convenient way is to create a bouquet of fresh flowers with your own hands step by step, following photo or video instructions.

Any owner of a summer cottage can afford such a touching and charming “congratulation” to his beloved mentor. In a basket, and also on a floristic base, autumn perennials will feel comfortable and will last for at least 2 weeks. And during a lesson, the teacher will accidentally look at this beauty and smile.

You will need:

  • any autumn perennials, in this case zinnias, asters and bush chrysanthemums, viburnum berries;
  • wicker basket with a high handle;
  • floristic “oasis”;
  • auxiliary tools: stationery knife, scissors.

Line the bottom of the basket with polyethylene. You can take a regular bag, as in this case, or a special “mica” floral film. We cut out the “oasis”, adjusting it to the shape of the basket, moisten it and additionally wrap it in cling film. We leave the upper part where the plants will be attached open. We begin to assemble a bouquet arrangement, following the rule - from the largest buds to the smallest.

We use small chrysanthemums as a filler for the arrangement. At the very end we add branches of ripe viburnum; they will add variety to this “autumn symphony”.

A very delicate and full of warmth composition is ready. Its compact size and light weight make it possible to give it as a gift on September 1, although florists for the main school holiday recommend options without baskets - they are hard to see in photographs.

Balloon bouquet for a wedding in a classic style

The exquisite arrangement called “pomander” is attractive due to its convenient design and extravagant appearance. Another plus is its ease of execution, although at first glance it seems that only a professional florist can cope with such a task.

For an original wedding bouquet of fresh flowers you will need very little:

  • any plants in delicate pastel colors (ranunculus, muscari, mint, asparagus and rosemary are used in the example);
  • satin ribbons and lace for decoration;
  • piaflor (“oasis”);
  • floral wire and scissors.

We lay a satin ribbon on the wire, and place lace on top of it. Twist the loop.

Then we insert the wire bracket deeply into the ball so that both ends go right through and “look out” on the other side. We spread them in different directions and pierce the ball again to fix it.

From the braid we make a lush bow with a loop holder. Cover the textile element with film and immerse the piaflor in settled water at room temperature. When the “oasis” is sufficiently saturated, we begin to decorate it. First we distribute the ranunculus, then the spicy herbs. And we use purple muscari as bright accents. When the ball is completely ready, the film from the bow needs to be removed.

An unusual “green” decoration is suitable not only for the newlywed, but also for her girlfriends. Stylish, unusual and comfortable - your hands remain free during the celebration, and the bouquet (aka bracelet) is nearby at all times.

You will need:

  • field or garden plants;
  • floral glue, sponge and wire;
  • lid from an ice cream or mayonnaise bucket;
  • anchor tape - similar to tape, but waterproof;
  • tapes – nylon and fabric.
  1. Let's make the base for the bouquet. From the plastic cover we cut out a plate with two side “ears”. A ribbon will be threaded through them to hold the bouquet on the forearm. The size of the part is about 5 cm. You can see how it should look in the photo.
  2. We form a hemisphere from a floral sponge, D 4.5 cm. We glue both elements with waterproof glue and additionally fix them with anchor tape. After this, we place the structure in a container with water so that the sponge is saturated.
  3. Let's prepare the flowers. Since the chosen field plants are very delicate and unstable, they need to be processed using special technology. The main task: to saturate the herbs as much as possible with water so that they do not wither before the end of the wedding celebrations. To do this, we strip the stems of the lower leaves and immerse the tips - up to 3 cm, no more - in boiling water for a few seconds. Then we cut off the burned areas, put the herbs in plain water and place them in the refrigerator for 2 hours. This shock therapy helps open the thin capillaries and they absorb much more water than they could.
  4. After all the preparations are made, we begin assembling the “live” bracelet. First, using sprigs of greenery, we set the teardrop shape of the composition. We add small inflorescences that support its asymmetrical character. We mark the center with the largest bud, in this case a chamomile. And then we distribute the remaining components.
  5. We thread the ribbon holder parts into the ears to tie them around the arm.
  6. The final stage is watering. While attaching the flowers to the floral base, some of the water was squeezed out of it. Now you need to compensate for the lost liquid by carefully adding it drop by drop to the arrangement.
  7. When the flower petals are dry after the shower, decorate them with ladybird decorations placed on floral glue. You can make this charming bridal bouquet from fresh flowers with your own hands, with a little patience and imagination (see photo):

Mini bouquet for the first date

Young people will have to think a lot to come to a meeting with the girl they like, with or without flowers, according to the new fashionable etiquette. Bringing “a million scarlet roses” means showing yourself to be a spendthrift who wants to show off and oblige his counterpart with excessive generosity. It’s even worse to show up empty-handed, admitting your own pettiness and greed.

The best option in this situation is mini-bouquets, so-called “compliments”, consisting of a minimum number of flowers. This is an unobtrusive sign of attention, which, moreover, will not tear off the girl’s hands if the couple decides to take a short walk together.

For a mini bouquet of fresh flowers you will need only 3 components:

  • sprigs of Spanish gorse;
  • eustoma;
  • sheet of kraft paper.

We put together a small arrangement of plants. We spread the paper and lay our mini-bouquet diagonally. First, fold the left corner of the package, then pick up the bottom, folding it into an envelope. We wrap the right part, which is much longer, around the entire composition and lay it beautifully in front. We tie it with a contrasting burlap bow.

Before making a bouquet of flowers, you need to determine its purpose, choose a suitable color scheme, select packaging and decorative elements. Using detailed instructions and useful recommendations, you will learn how to create beautiful compositions from living plants.

What to prepare before making bouquets of flowers

Before work, you need to prepare everything you need to compose the composition: flowers, greenery for decoration, a tool for cutting stems, packaging material and tape. The choice of plants depends on who the gift is intended for.

By learning how to arrange flower bouquets, you will be able to create stunning compositions

To make the bouquet look impressive, use the following tips:

  • the composition will be more natural if the stems are of different lengths;
  • decorative greenery should not cover the flowers;
  • when using inflorescences of the same type, select exhibits with different stages of bud dissolution.

The color of the bouquet can be monochromatic, consistent in a single color scheme, or contrasting.

How to make a bouquet of fresh flowers: instructions

Stages of creating a floral composition:

  1. Having chosen the largest and brightest inflorescences, connect them together.
  2. Place small flowers around the resulting base.
  3. Create a border of greenery using ferns, herringbone or other ornamental plants.
  4. Pack the resulting composition in foil or colored film, securing the attachment points with a stapler.
  5. Tie the package with a ribbon and decorate with a bow.

If the bouquet is complemented by cereals, their heads should rise above the buds.

Experienced florists advise following the following rules:

  • one bouquet should not contain more than three varieties of inflorescences;
  • the combination of wild and exotic or garden flowers looks ridiculous;
  • roses, lilies and other elegant representatives of flora look great on their own;
  • When collecting a bouquet of flowers for a young girl, you should give preference to delicate shades, while for older women, richly colored flowers are better suited.

A lush bouquet of flowers, collected yourself, will be an excellent gift for a name day, wedding, special event or holiday. All the necessary plants can be collected in the garden or purchased at a specialty store. Packaging film and tapes are sold in flower shops. When working on a composition, you can show your imagination, but you should not neglect the advice of florists.

Not a single celebration is complete without bouquets - flowers help to express warm feelings and confess love. Don’t think that only a professional florist can create a flower arrangement. Of course, floristry is a science with its own subtleties and rules. This doesn’t stop you from coming up with bouquets yourself and delighting your loved ones with them more often.

Flowers have been a decoration for holidays and part of interior decor since ancient times. Centuries passed, fashion and people's tastes changed, but the tradition of congratulating with bouquets remained unchanged. If we recall modern trends in design and decor, we can come to the conclusion that bouquets of fresh flowers also serve as a means of creating coziness at home.

Don’t think that you need to spend a lot of money and look for a good florist for this. Anyone can make bouquets of flowers with their own hands. It is enough to adhere to certain rules. Before you move on to making a bouquet, you need to think through everything. It is very important to decide on the shape, color and composition.

It is worth remembering that some plants do not tolerate any proximity. If you chose wildflowers, then it is better not to add anything else to them. The same rule applies to exotic plants. For example, an orchid can be framed with a small amount of greenery. There are also flowers that are an excellent background for almost all other plants. These are irises and decorative sunflowers.

DIY flower bouquets: how to make?

For those who are making a bouquet of fresh flowers with their own hands for the first time, professionals advise focusing on options from one type of flower. Floristry for beginners also involves a number of other features.

  • There are several styles of making bouquets of fresh flowers. Most are done in a massive style. In this case, there is no free space between the elements. Simple bouquets of the same type of flowers can be classified as a linear style.
  • Do-it-yourself flower bouquets do not tolerate stylistic overkill. When creating a composition, you should not use too many types of plants. As a result, you will get something overloaded and clumsy. 2-3 varieties and a small amount of greens are enough.
  • The creation of any bouquet can be broken down point by point. First, we determine the shape and composition, then the color compatibility and the number of plants in the bouquet. If you are going to make a bouquet of flowers growing in your garden, it is recommended to cut them at an angle. Next, they should be placed in water. For those flowers that were not immediately used when making a bouquet, florists advise updating the cut - this way they will not wither longer. Remember, the number of flowers in the bouquet must be odd.
  • Bouquets can be made in different sizes. For birthdays, large ones are preferable, but for weddings, on the contrary, not very voluminous ones. The shapes of men's and women's bouquets should be different. For beautiful ladies it is better to make round bouquets, and for men - elongated ones.
  • Also, when forming bouquets, you should remember that there are incompatible flowers.

  • This is not about composition or color compatibility. Some plants release substances into the water that can lead to the rapid death of other flowers. It is believed that roses, carnations and lilies should be placed separately in a vase.

Bouquets of flowers: master class

Sometimes the simplest bouquets look the best. A very delicate spring bouquet can be composed of white and pink flowers. To do this, just place pink flowers in the center, frame them with white ones and tie them with a pink ribbon. Peonies and ranunculus - garden buttercups - are suitable for such a bouquet.

  • Prepare your tools - floral tape, garden shears, wire. Cut the flowers 45 cm long. The cut should be at an angle. To make the bouquet last longer, cut the cut again under water and place the flowers in a vase.
  • Prepare the plants: remove all leaves located at the bottom.
  • Find the largest one among the flowers. Take it out of the vase. Try to hold below the bud with your index finger and thumb. It is more convenient to hold it in your left hand.

You can also make unusual flower arrangements using packaging. Wildflowers, porridge, white stars placed in a cone made of craft paper, decorated with textile or paper lace, will appeal to romantic people. To do this, the finished bouquet is placed in a cone with the top cut off. Next, the paper is decorated in any way - using lace, decorative tape.

The same effect can be achieved if you use floral mesh or coarse burlap. To do this, you also need to trim several branches of yellow and pink carnations and sprigs of greenery. Place flowers of the same length in the center, greenery along the edges. Preparing the decorative wrapper. To do this, we begin to wrap the upper right edge of the mesh or fabric, heading to the left. We have a cone. To prevent the wrapper from falling apart, it can be secured with a stapler in an inconspicuous place.

Cut off the top of the cone. We pull the resulting bouquet through the hole. We tie the bouquet in the middle with a decorative ribbon. The bouquet of carnations is ready!

There are many subtleties that help you create a beautiful bouquet.

If you want to make a symbolic bouquet that carries a certain meaning. Then you should familiarize yourself with the symbolism of color. Red color means love, passion, pink means tenderness, white means purity of thoughts, fidelity. Do not think that yellow color only means separation and betrayal. The ban on its use in bouquets is a thing of the past.

Florists advise using different textures in bouquets. This effect can be achieved by using open flowers and twigs with buds. This effect can also be achieved using the texture of the petals - terry, smooth, needle-shaped. Remember that it is better not to overdo it with the number of textures, as well as with shades. 2-3 different varieties are enough.

To make the bouquet look compositionally complete, use additional decorative elements (beads, corrugated or craft paper, ribbons).

Large inflorescences are always located in the center, and smaller flowers frame them. Try not to cover them with greens - everything is good in moderation.

Many people believe that the best gift is one made with their own hands. Bouquets are an excellent confirmation of this statement. Do-it-yourself flower bouquets are made according to certain floral rules. You should take into account color compatibility, the possibility of sharing certain varieties of flowers. All this will help you create a bouquet that the hero of the occasion will remember for a long time!

    THANK YOU so much for the very useful information in the article. Everything is presented very clearly. It feels like a lot of work has been done to analyze the operation of the eBay store

    • Thank you and other regular readers of my blog. Without you, I would not be motivated enough to dedicate much time to maintaining this site. My brain is structured this way: I like to dig deep, systematize scattered data, try things that no one has done before or looked at from this angle. It’s a pity that our compatriots have no time for shopping on eBay because of the crisis in Russia. They buy from Aliexpress from China, since goods there are much cheaper (often at the expense of quality). But online auctions eBay, Amazon, ETSY will easily give the Chinese a head start in the range of branded items, vintage items, handmade items and various ethnic goods.

        What is valuable in your articles is your personal attitude and analysis of the topic. Don't give up this blog, I come here often. There should be a lot of us like that. Email me I recently received an email with an offer that they would teach me how to trade on Amazon and eBay. And I remembered your detailed articles about these trades. area I re-read everything again and concluded that the courses are a scam. I haven't bought anything on eBay yet. I am not from Russia, but from Kazakhstan (Almaty). But we also don’t need any extra expenses yet. I wish you good luck and stay safe in Asia.

  • It’s also nice that eBay’s attempts to Russify the interface for users from Russia and the CIS countries have begun to bear fruit. After all, the overwhelming majority of citizens of the countries of the former USSR do not have strong knowledge of foreign languages. No more than 5% of the population speak English. There are more among young people. Therefore, at least the interface is in Russian - this is a big help for online shopping on this trading platform. eBay did not follow the path of its Chinese counterpart Aliexpress, where a machine (very clumsy and incomprehensible, sometimes causing laughter) translation of product descriptions is performed. I hope that at a more advanced stage of development of artificial intelligence, high-quality machine translation from any language to any in a matter of seconds will become a reality. So far we have this (the profile of one of the sellers on eBay with a Russian interface, but an English description):
