The principle of motivation to action says: the appetite for any work comes after you take it on. And this principle applies to any activity. You just have to take the first step and dive headfirst into work.

We make a mistake by postponing this first step “until Monday.” It turns out that energy and enthusiasm appear only after work begins. A surge of energy is the result of immersion in work. You just need to force yourself to start doing something, and that’s the whole secret.

To start doing something, for example, running in the morning, you don’t need to prepare. After all, it is never possible to be one hundred percent prepared for anything. You are only wasting time.

For example, you need to give a speech in front of an audience. Is it possible to perfectly prepare yourself for this performance? No. No matter how much you rewrite the text, no matter how much you study it, the thought will still be spinning in your head: “Eh, I should rehearse for a couple more hours...” Or, for example, start your own business. Is it possible to prepare for it? Psychologically, yes. But no one will give you guarantees of success.

“A wise man lives by acting, not by thinking about his actions.” Carlos Castaneda

First you need to be determined to do what needs to be done. Then prepare as much as possible, and after that take the first step, without having any guarantees or answers to the questions that arise.

Motivation is in action, not in thinking about it

From a psychological point of view, if you put off your actions all the time, it means you don’t really want to achieve what you want. Or you are overcome by fear of something new. But fear is a natural human reaction to something new. Be brave enough to force yourself to start doing something.

Courage is not the absence of fear, courage is the ability to act despite fear.

Those who have let life take its course have as many fears as those who constantly take desperate risks. Only the former are afraid of meaningless little things. So why not be afraid of something more significant?

Motivation to action involves overcoming your fears and anxieties

If you ask “brave” people where they got the strength to start their own business, acquire real estate, go to other countries, or, in general, do something new in life, they know that they can overcome all the difficulties that may arise in front of them on the way to success.

To motivate yourself to start your own business, ask yourself: “What am I risking in the worst case?”

It is enough just to realize your vague fears and figure out what unfavorable situations may arise. To create motivation for action, try to concentrate on what you want, and not on what you are afraid of.

By focusing on our fears and drawing catastrophic images in our heads, we automatically program ourselves for failure.

As you work to motivate yourself to take action, don't be afraid to demand more from yourself.

It is impossible to know everything about everything. No, there are no such people.

Even the most successful people do not have any superhuman abilities. They also have only one brain, also twenty-four hours a day and, as a rule, two arms and two legs, like everyone else. They just learned a lot, overcame their fear, learned to overcome difficulties and believe in themselves.

None of us are given any special certificates of success at birth. God will never come down from heaven to say: “Your hour has come!” He will never tell you what you can and cannot do. It’s up to you to decide when and how to start doing something.

The paradox of motivation to action

“When the student is ready, the teacher will appear” oriental wisdom

As soon as you finally and irrevocably decide to change your life or start taking action, life itself will begin to give you options to help you.

The right people will appear out of nowhere, friends will give you a useful book, an advertisement in the newspaper will “catch your eye,” chance will lead you to the right place at the most opportune moment.

We will simply begin to notice favorable situations and attract new opportunities.

As soon as we decide to start doing something, resources will immediately appear to create motivation for action. Of course, these glimpses of luck can be explained by a simple coincidence of circumstances. But if you take a closer look at life, you will notice that they happen regularly.

And the reluctance to do something completely takes over you...

In my opinion, it is at this moment that some kind of recharge from outside is required... We need a source that would support and help us move further towards our own, towards our dreams. It’s better, of course, to create and achieve goals and results together, which is precisely why we created .

Just recently I found these motivational quotes on the Internet and posted them. Perhaps they will also turn out to be a source of inspiration and motivation for you, a source that will give strength and support any of your movements and direction of development.

Structurally, the psyche can be represented as the unity of its three components - consciousness, subconscious and motor skills. Whatever a person does, his activity acts as a manifestation of these components. This means that in order to encourage the interlocutor to be active, you need to influence his consciousness, subconscious (mainly emotions) and include him in the appropriate activity.

Appealing only to consciousness does not exhaust all the possibilities of persuasion. Only those motivating efforts achieve the goal that pass through the mind, feeling and motor skills of people.

When exposed systematically, it affects all areas of life. This is confirmed by the following well-known fact: spouses who have lived together for 25 years become similar to each other not only mentally, but also physically (in face). Even dogs that live with their owner for a long time resemble him in some way.

Suggestion

The power of a look.

American tourists John Gelfreich and Otto Buteshude traveled through the jungle of Mato Grosso. Having spent the night on the banks of the Xingu River, in the morning we started preparing breakfast.

Buteshude went to fetch water. He did not appear for a long time, and Gelfreich went to look for his comrade. He found him near the water. Otto slowly walked towards the dense bush, his movements were like that of a robot, his head motionless directed towards the thicket. Following the direction of his gaze, Gelfreich saw the head of a snake sticking out of a bush. John's reaction was lightning fast: he killed the reptile with a pistol shot. Otto suddenly shuddered and laughed nervously. Later he said: near the water he felt someone’s gaze on him, but he doesn’t remember what happened next.

I remember one picture the author saw in childhood: a boa constrictor feeding in a zoo. They started cleaning the terrarium. The boa constrictor stared at her without blinking. The mouse froze, and then slowly began to move straight into the boa constrictor’s mouth. At the same time, her hind legs pushed her forward, and her front legs rested. An unforgettable spectacle in its dramatic nature!

Both described cases show that with a special look you can subjugate both a person and an animal and impose certain actions on them.

Gaze.

In the business world, staring has practical uses. The president of the McDonald's fast food chain said: “Our restaurants in Moscow feed fifty thousand people every day, and we pay individual attention to each visitor. We tell him, looking into his eyes: “Come to us again.”

The story told earlier about how Senator Robert Kennedy greeted shows that politicians also skillfully use their gaze to inspire attraction.

Magical look.

A mystical aura has long been formed around the direct gaze. It is even called the “magic gaze.” Naturally, there are also educational recipes. Igor Vostokov talks about one of them in his book “Secrets of Healers of the East.”

“Take a typewritten sheet and in the center of it, draw a circle the size of a two-kopeck coin (1.5 cm) in ink or black ink.

Hang this sheet at a distance of 2-2.5 m from you and for 15 minutes, continuously and without blinking, look at this black circle (the circle must be shaded in black).

By doing this daily, you will develop a “magic look”. If a woman, for example, looks at a man with such a look in order to bewitch him to herself, then he will become hers forever.”

Another way is using a mirror. Relax your facial muscles a little and look at your reflection. Direct your gaze into your eyes or the bridge of your nose. Avoiding frequent blinking, look at the point for 20-25 seconds.

In everyday life, a gaze should not be overused, because under it people begin to get nervous. Usually, during a conversation, it is customary to periodically look away to the side so as not to embarrass you.

If you want to unbalance your interlocutor, select a vulnerable spot on his body or clothing (for example, crooked legs, bad teeth, dirty nails, unclean shoes, a stain, a fly, etc.) and look closely there. Your interlocutor will immediately begin to get nervous. Well, if you, in addition, portray a barely noticeable sarcastic smile and arrogantly throw your head back, then only a very self-possessed person will be able to maintain composure. A scattered glance or a glance directed past the interlocutor's eyes (at the ear, forehead, chin, lips) will do the same thing, but in a more delicate and gentle form.

Suggestion by word.

Words are the main tool of suggestion. Visual techniques are auxiliary, making it easier to achieve the goal. The crushing power of the tongue is uniquely reflected in the Gospel of James (3:5-6):

“Likewise, the tongue is a small member, but does a lot.”

“Language is fire, the embellishment of untruth”

"This is an uncontrollable evil: it is filled with deadly poison"

Since ancient times it has been known that the treatment of a person’s body and soul rests on three foundations: a knife, grass and a word. The knife is used in surgery; the use of herbs led to the development of medicines; the word is the main “tool of labor” of a psychologist and psychotherapist. But not only them. A good doctor is one whose one visit already alleviates the patient’s condition.

Elderly people complain that doctors now have no time to even properly listen to the patient. The doctors who are most respected by this contingent are those who find the opportunity to patiently listen to complaints, encourage, and instill hope for improvement.

“The word kills” - the proverb quite rightly states. This is exactly what often happened when a sorcerer cast a spell on this or that person, piercing his image with a sharp object, and by the appointed time the person actually fell ill and died. Some mothers still believe that using the “evil eye” can harm their child. In such cases, we are dealing with mechanisms of direct or indirect suggestion.

Direct suggestion.

It is directly related to the speech of the influencing person. As an example of direct suggestion, let us recall the previously described case of the death of a patient immediately after the death of the specialist who treated her and “calmed” her with the words: “You will die after me.”

Indirect suggestion.

With indirect suggestion, some intermediate action or stimulus is used to enhance its effect (for example, piercing a nail or burning an image of the person on whom the spell is cast). Often, indirect suggestion is more effective than direct suggestion, since it does not act “head-on” and therefore does not cause internal resistance in the suggestible person.

Let us illustrate the power of indirect suggestion with data from three experiments. In one of them, conducted in a psychiatric clinic in the United States, patients were divided into two groups: the first underwent psychotherapy for six months, while the second was awaiting treatment at that time. When the results were compared, it turned out that the percentage of improvement was the same in both groups. The hope for a cure was equal to the treatment itself.

In another experiment, patients with neurosis were given sugar pills (completely useless in terms of treatment) instead of medicine, assuring them that they would “help just like other medicines.” A group of fourteen people took sugar pills three times a day for a week, after which thirteen patients showed improvement in all criteria...

This effect is widely known in medicine as the “placebo effect” (that is, dummies).

In the third experiment, two groups of students with psychological problems were formed. Professional psychologists and psychiatrists worked with one, and college teachers who were popular among students worked with the other. These teachers were supposed to say whatever came to mind during their work in order to “help.” Similar sessions were held 2-3 times a week for three months. The percentage of improvement was similar in both groups.

Suggestibility.

It is purely individual for each person. The level of suggestibility can be determined using special tests, they are called “tests”. These tests are necessarily carried out by hypnotists, selecting suitable “material” for the session.

But before we give a description of these tests, we will express some information about suggestibility as such. When suggesting, one turns primarily to the listener’s feelings and expects an uncritical perception of information. Therefore, children are the most suggestible. Since women, as a rule, are much more emotional than men, they are more suggestible.

Poorly educated people, as well as people who are accustomed to doing what their boss tells them in the service, are more susceptible to suggestion.

In general, activities related to the fulfillment of orders and demands (soldiers, athletes, party functionaries) develop suggestibility. Fatigue and stress also increase it. Alcoholics and drug addicts are even more suggestible. The crowd is easily influenced. She has “many heads, but few brains.” The larger the audience of listeners, the more weak-willed and suggestible it is. It’s hard to say to the first one: “But the king is naked!” And since everyone is silent, the illusion is created that everyone is in favor. Ideologists of totalitarian political systems used this phenomenon to simulate “support” for their decisions. So it worked out: each individual is “against”, and all together is “for”...

“They knock out a wedge with a wedge.”

One poorly educated woman convinced herself that a real toad had settled in her stomach: as if, after drinking water from a pond, it had swallowed its embryo, which had grown and now did not allow the poor woman to breathe.

No amount of argument could convince her of the absurdity of these statements. And she went to a famous doctor, who practiced privately, with a request to “drive out” the toad: after talking with her, he understood what was the matter and did not argue, but scheduled an “operation to remove” the damned creature for the next day. He told the woman to eat more all this time. He himself asked the neighboring boys to catch a toad for him for a decent reward. Soon the captured creature was already languishing in a jar.

The “operation” consisted of the doctor giving the patient a strong emetic and making her sit over a large pelvis. Long, grueling vomiting dulled the sufferer’s vigilance, and a toad was placed in the basin without her noticing. Seeing her, the patient rejoiced: “Here! I told you so! Doctor, you saved me. I feel so relieved now!”

The mechanism of suggestion.

During suggestion, the influence on a person is structured in such a way that it first causes strong excitation in a limited area of the brain while simultaneously inhibiting the rest of it, and then a targeted discharge is produced, consolidating the suggested thought in the mind.

Suggestibility tests.

Braid's technique. The subject focuses his gaze on a shiny object presented to him (a metal ball, the tip of a medical hammer, etc.), fixed opposite and slightly above the bridge of his nose (for stronger tension of the eye muscles). After a long concentration of attention, fatigue of the visual analyzer and sleep may occur.

Coue and Baudouin's techniques. Experiment one: a standing person is asked to stand straight so that his main support is his heels; You can also ask to throw your head back. This is a position of unstable equilibrium in which any shock will lead to a fall. At the same time, it is calmly but firmly suggested: “You are falling back, you are being pulled back, you are already falling, falling ...” Most people really fall, so the hypnotist must stand behind the person in order to catch him in time.

To enhance the effect of the test, with the palm located opposite the forehead, you can slightly push the patient or, touching the back of his head with the palm, gradually move the hand back, which also causes an imbalance in the body. If the test works, then the person begins to experience much greater “respect” and trust towards the hypnotist, which will subsequently have a positive effect on the results of the session itself.

Experiment two: the subject is placed opposite the hypnotist; The center of gravity of the body this time is shifted to the toes. Both look at each other, in the eyes (experienced specialists, in order to tire their eyesight less, look at the bridge of the nose). Then the person conducting the test stretches his palms forward so as to reach the temples of the subject and says: “You are already falling, falling...” When performing this technique, you can touch the temples of the subject (the fingers should be cold).

Carrying out such techniques requires compliance with certain rules that ensure the physical safety of the subject: he must be without glasses; you need to remove nearby objects with sharp corners; the hypnotist must have sufficient strength to hold the person in the event of a fall.

Experiment three: the subject is given a thread with a heavy object at the end, asked to close his eyes and persistently think about the circle. Very soon the pendulum begins to describe circular movements. If the patient is told that he was thinking about an oval, then the pendulum begins to rotate along an oval trajectory. So the “device” with which “negative energy” is determined has its predecessor, but in a completely different field of application.

In contrast, other theories tend to completely exclude from volitional action the internal work of consciousness associated with choice, deliberation, and evaluation; To this end, they separate the motivation of the will from the volitional act itself. As a result, volitional action or even an act of will turns into pure impulsiveness. The absolutization of reflective consciousness is contrasted with the other extreme - impulsive efficiency, completely devoid of conscious control.

In fact, any truly volitional action is a selective act, including conscious choice and decision. But this does not mean that the struggle of motives is its central part, its soul. From the very essence of volitional action, as an action aimed at achieving a goal, at realizing a plan, it follows that its main parts are the initial and final phases - clear awareness of the goal and perseverance, firmness in achieving it. The basis of volitional action is purposeful, conscious effectiveness.

Recognition of the dominant significance of the initial and final phases of volitional action - awareness of the goal and its implementation - does not exclude, however, either the existence of other phases, or the fact that in specific, diverse and changeable conditions of reality in one particular case or another, both come to the fore. other phases of the volitional act. All of them are therefore subject to analysis. An act of will begins with the emergence of an impulse, expressed in aspiration. As the goal towards which it is directed is realized, the desire turns into desire; the emergence of a desire presupposes a certain experience through which a person learns which object is capable of satisfying his need. One who does not know this cannot have desire. Desire is an objectified desire. The generation of a desire therefore means the emergence or setting of a goal. Desire is a purposeful desire.

But the presence of a desire directed at one or another object as a goal is not yet a completed act of will. If desire presupposes knowledge of the goal, then it does not yet include thoughts about the means and even mental mastery of them. It is therefore not so much practical as it is contemplative and affective. You can also desire something that you are not sure is achievable, although firm knowledge of the absolute unattainability of the object of desire will undoubtedly paralyze, if not kill, desire.

Desire often opens up a wide range of imagination. Submitting to desire, the imagination decorates the desired object and this, in turn, feeds the desire that was the source of its activity. But this activity of the imagination, in which feeling and idea interact, can replace the actual realization of desire. Desire becomes wrapped up in dreams instead of being translated into action. It's getting closer to the wish. Wishing does not mean wanting.

Desire turns into a truly volitional act, which in psychology is usually denoted by the clumsy word “wanting,” when knowledge of a goal is accompanied by an attitude toward its implementation, confidence in its achievability, and a focus on mastering the appropriate means. Wanting is a striving not for the object of desire in itself, but for mastering it, for achieving a goal. Want exists where not only the goal itself is desired, but also the action that leads to it.

No matter how different attraction, desire and desire are from each other, each of them expresses aspiration - that internal contradictory state of lack, need, suffering, anxiety and at the same time tension, which forms the initial urge to action. In a number of cases, an incentive to action aimed at a specific, more or less clearly realized goal directly entails action. One has only to imagine the goal to feel and know: yes, I want this! You just have to feel it to move on to action.

But sometimes the motivation to action and the setting of a goal are not immediately followed by action; it happens that before an action has taken place, doubt arises either about the given goal or about the means that lead to its achievement; sometimes several competing goals appear almost simultaneously, the thought arises of possible undesirable consequences of the behavior that leads to the achievement of the desired goal, and the result is a delay. The situation is getting more complicated. Between motivation and action wedge reflection and the struggle of motives.

It is sometimes said that, in contrast to impulsive, affective action, which is determined by the situation more than by permanent, essential properties or attitudes of the individual, volitional action as a selective act, i.e. the result of a choice made by a person is determined by the person as a whole. This is correct in a certain sense. But it is no less correct that an act of will often contains struggle, contradiction, and division. A person has many different needs and interests, and some of them turn out to be incompatible. A person becomes involved in a conflict. An internal struggle of motives flares up.

THANK YOU so much for the very useful information in the article. Everything is presented very clearly. It feels like a lot of work has been done to analyze the operation of the eBay store

    • Thank you and other regular readers of my blog. Without you, I would not be motivated enough to dedicate much time to maintaining this site. My brain is structured this way: I like to dig deep, systematize scattered data, try things that no one has done before or looked at from this angle. It’s a pity that our compatriots have no time for shopping on eBay because of the crisis in Russia. They buy from Aliexpress from China, since goods there are much cheaper (often at the expense of quality). But online auctions eBay, Amazon, ETSY will easily give the Chinese a head start in the range of branded items, vintage items, handmade items and various ethnic goods.

What is valuable in your articles is your personal attitude and analysis of the topic. Don't give up this blog, I come here often. There should be a lot of us like that. Email me I recently received an email with an offer that they would teach me how to trade on Amazon and eBay. And I remembered your detailed articles about these trades. area I re-read everything again and concluded that the courses are a scam. I haven't bought anything on eBay yet. I am not from Russia, but from Kazakhstan (Almaty). But we also don’t need any extra expenses yet. I wish you good luck and stay safe in Asia.

  • It’s also nice that eBay’s attempts to Russify the interface for users from Russia and the CIS countries have begun to bear fruit. After all, the overwhelming majority of citizens of the countries of the former USSR do not have strong knowledge of foreign languages. No more than 5% of the population speak English. There are more among young people. Therefore, at least the interface is in Russian - this is a big help for online shopping on this trading platform. eBay did not follow the path of its Chinese counterpart Aliexpress, where a machine (very clumsy and incomprehensible, sometimes causing laughter) translation of product descriptions is performed. I hope that at a more advanced stage of development of artificial intelligence, high-quality machine translation from any language to any in a matter of seconds will become a reality. So far we have this (the profile of one of the sellers on eBay with a Russian interface, but an English description):
