The starline car alarm allows you to warm up the engine and interior of the car without the driver being in the cabin. In hot weather, in addition to starting the engine, you can turn on the air conditioning to reduce the temperature in the car. Autostart Starline E90 has fine tuning for more comfortable programming of the power plant. For example, activating auto start by alarm allows you to have a car ready to move at the required time, which is especially convenient during a normal daily routine. The alarm also makes it possible to turn off the engine at any time.

Features of starting a car engine from a key fob

ATTENTION! A completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption has been found! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also didn’t believe it until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline!

To successfully start the power plant from the key fob, the following conditions must be met:

  • ignition off;
  • the hood is closed;
  • The car is on the handbrake and starting it will not lead to movement.

In the case of vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, a soft neutral procedure must first be performed. Otherwise, you won’t be able to autostart the car. Remote start can be done by long pressing the “1” button. You can turn off the car from the key fob by pressing button “1” for a long time and button “4” briefly.

Button "1"

Periodic autostart

In order to enable periodic autorun, the following instructions must be followed:

Maintaining engine temperature

If the engine operating time required for warming up is not known, you can use autostart based on temperature. In this case, starting the engine is carried out in the following sequence:

Automatic engine start by alarm clock

The Starline car alarm allows you to start the engine at a predetermined time. To do this you need:

Alarm start display

If you broke it, lost it, or simply decided that you need another key fob to control your car alarm, then first of all you need to purchase it; if you haven’t done so yet, you can use this link.

So, the key fob is in your hands, and all you have to do is introduce it to the alarm system. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to program the Starline E90 key fob and record it in the car alarm memory:

Step one
With the ignition off and the alarm system disarmed, press the service button (Valet) 7 times and turn on the ignition. You should hear 7 quick, short signals, indicating that you have entered the Starline E90 key fob binding mode.
Step two
Simultaneously briefly press buttons 1 and 2 of the key fob you are registering. Successful recording of the key fob into the alarm memory will be indicated by a short squeak. Moreover, the number of squeaks will indicate the number of the key fob in the alarm memory. Do the same operation for all key fobs that you will use, but remember that the interval between recording the next key fob should not exceed 5 seconds.
Step three
Turn off the ignition. Three short signals should follow, indicating an exit from the alarm key fob recording mode.

And further...
When recording key fobs into a car alarm, all previously recorded key fobs are deleted from the system memory, so all necessary key fobs must be written in one programming cycle. In total, up to 4 key fobs can be recorded in the car alarm memory.

And more, more...
If radio relay R2 is recorded in the system, then after recording the key fobs it is necessary to restore the binding of radio relay R2 to the car alarm. For this:
- turn the ignition on and off 7 times;
– press the service button 7 times and turn on the ignition. There will be 7 siren signals. Wait for 3 light signals from the car alarm and a melodic signal from the key fob.
– turn off the ignition.

A car is quite an expensive thing, and even more so in the conditions of modern economic realities. Therefore, it doesn’t hurt to take care of its safety by installing a new security system. On the market today you can find dozens of different options, but the Starline E90 alarm system is always popular among domestic motorists.

Since modern devices of this kind are very complex electronic equipment, various errors often arise during operation, which often lead to complete disappointment with your purchase. To prevent this from happening, the car enthusiast must know about the main nuances of how the Starline E90 alarm system functions, as well as have an idea of the main stages of setting it up. This article was created as a short reminder containing the most necessary information.

To begin with, a few words about how to actually turn on the security mode to keep your car safe in the parking lot. To do this, you just need to click on the key icon on the key fob display. That's it, your car is protected from the attacks of dark personalities.

Entering the car number into the alarm memory

All cars that have a supported CAN interface are constantly registered in the manufacturer’s database. You can find the list of models in the list of supported cars, which is included in the instructions supplied with the alarm upon purchase.

What do the instructions for the Starline E90 alarm system with auto start provide immediately after installing the security system? You have to enter the CAN number into its memory. To do this, you will need to follow these steps (be sure to follow this sequence). Entering service setup mode:

  • Completely turn off the power to the complex, and then temporarily disconnect the CAN interface cable.
  • While holding the service button, apply power. Attention! If you did everything correctly, this will be followed by five short siren beeps, during which you must (!) keep the button pressed.
  • After the signals have sounded, the key can be released. Four more short beeps will follow. They indicate that you did everything correctly, and the alarm actually went into service mode.

Entering a number, possible problems and their solutions

  • After entering the service mode, press the service button once. As confirmation, the alarm will “beep” once briefly with a siren. After this, press the service key as many times as the first digit of your car code (for example, if it starts with three, then you will have to press the button three times).
  • The system will “beep” again, confirming the acceptance of the first digit. You can press the button from one to nine times. If you press ten or more times by mistake, the system will automatically return to service mode, and you will be forced to start all over again.
  • Enter all other numbers in the same way, waiting after each series for a confirmation signal from the security system.

Two seconds after you entered the last number, the Starline E90 GSM alarm system can produce the following signal options:

  • If it briefly beeps twice, the operation was successful and the number was saved in the internal memory of your device.
  • If it beeped four times, then some error occurred during input, and therefore the information was not saved.

Regardless of the input results, the Starline E90 alarm system (reviews of which we will consider) goes to the programming menu. If you need to enter the number again, you must start over again.

Does the security system detect the presence of a running engine?

Since some changes are constantly taking place in the electrical and electronic circuits of cars today even at the production stage (and often car enthusiasts do not know about this), immediately after connecting the alarm, it would be useful to find out whether your device detects the very fact of engine operation. Not only the possibility of its convenient remote start, but also your safety will depend on this. How is the Starline E90 alarm system configured?

To test this function, you will need a standard key fob with an LCD display. What does an audit involve? Everything is quite simple: you have to check the two states of the car and understand whether your Starline E90 alarm system distinguishes between them. If no problems are identified during the check, then no difficulties should arise with the remote start of the engine. So, here is the sequence of your actions:

  • The first condition in which the ignition is on, but the engine is not running. Briefly press the third button on the key fob. The key icon should appear on the LCD display. Remember that the smoke icon does not normally appear.
  • Accordingly, in the second case the engine is running. Also briefly press the third button on the key fob. In this case, not only the key icon should appear on the display, but also a smoke icon.

How to evaluate test results

If you observe an incorrect indication in at least one of these cases, this indicates that the X3 connector is not connected correctly. There are two options here, and both are bad: either you will not be able to use the remote engine start, or the engine will start... even if the car is in gear. So, the first option is an incorrect indication, when the Starline E90 alarm displays the correct icons of the car engine running and switched off. The reasons for this behavior may be:

  • If monitoring engine operation is based on taking readings from the generator, then perhaps the polarity was simply reversed during installation.
  • When a tacho signal is used, its amplitude is extremely small, and therefore the security system simply does not distinguish it.
  • When the condition is monitored by voltage indicators, then, with a high degree of probability, the problem is again in the generator.

This is how the Starline E90 alarm system is controlled. The operating instructions clearly state that in these cases you should definitely use the help of qualified specialists. Alas, not all motorists follow this simple and competent advice. This is very bad, since the consequences of such inappropriate behavior of electronic systems can be extremely serious, leading to numerous problems.

What does this mean?

  • As has been said many times, the car owner simply will not be able to use the function
  • It is possible that the alarm simply will not pick up the ignition in neutral (true for cars with a manual transmission).
  • A similar situation occurs in the turbo timer mode and protection of a car with a running engine, if we are talking about vehicles with a modern automatic transmission.
  • The program neutral test will be erroneously performed when the engine is turned off. Simply put, the next time the remote start occurs, the owner will be in for a big surprise when his car starts driving around the parking lot on its own.
  • Receiving information about a running engine will occur almost instantly. Under normal conditions, there is nothing wrong with this, but if the ambient temperature is much below zero, then the engine is unlikely to start normally.
  • If the polarity of the connection to the generator was reversed, the engine will start constantly, but immediately stall (after a couple of seconds).

How to use the remote start function correctly?

What to do if you have a modern car with automatic transmission? Place the box in the “parking” position, and then close the trunk, hood, and all doors. For cars with a manual transmission, everything is similar, but the box, accordingly, must be placed in the “neutral” position. After this, a software “neutralization” procedure is performed.

In most cases, this requires tightening the key securely, removing the key from the ignition, and then getting out of the car and closing all the doors, hood and trunk. The engine should stop automatically after closing the doors, or after pressing the first button on the key fob.

In some cases, the Starline E90 (the operating instructions allow this option) turns on neutral “by pressing the key fob button.” In this case, without turning off the engine, carefully tighten and press the second button on the control panel. Only after this can you remove the key from the ignition, get out of the car and close all the doors, trunk and hood. After this, the engine will also automatically stall and program neutral will be engaged.

There is another option when this function is activated after the parking brake is applied. The official description of the Starline E90 alarm system stipulates that in this case you also need to first tighten the brake, leaving the key in the ignition, and then get out of the car and close all the doors, trunk and hood. As in the first case, program neutral will be turned on either after this, or by pressing the first button on the control key fob.

First remote engine start

Everything is simple here. First, hold down the first key and wait until two melodious bells sound. The engine will start automatically. To silence it, take the Starline E90 alarm key fob and press its first key, wait for one signal, and then repeat pressing four times (briefly). The engine will stall. What should you do if the Starline E90 alarm system, the operating instructions for which we are reviewing, was unable to start the engine?

Possible problems with automatic engine start

Firstly, after at least four startup attempts (and the system may “slow down” for the first time), the startup did not take place. This indicates that the standard immobilizer bypass is not functioning for some reason. How can I check this? Simple: remove the key or chip from the bypass module, then apply it to the ignition switch when trying to start automatically (to check whether it can be read). If the engine starts, the problem is really in the module: perhaps there is another standard immobilizer somewhere in the car; there is a possibility that there are not enough coils in the bypass module coil.

Another problem is that the engine starts, but stalls almost immediately. Here the reason may lie in incorrectly determined polarity when connected to the generator. It may turn out that the problem is in the security system itself, which does not have the correct program to control engine operation in a specific car model. Usually, updating the firmware to a more recent version of the software in a service center helps, after which the Starline E90 auto-start alarm starts working normally.

Another option is that the engine also does not start, and the inscription “OST” appears on the LCD display of the key fob. If so, then you need to install software neutral. We have already discussed the procedure for this operation above. Finally, the engine may also not show any signs of life, but the key fob display will properly display the icon of a running engine. In this case, you 100% did not connect the cable responsible for transmitting data from the corresponding sensor. It is possible that the wire connectors were not inserted tightly.

The latter option is hinted at by the situation when from time to time the car starts normally with the key fob, but more often than not it does not react to it at all. If you have checked the cable, but it is tightly inserted into the connectors, and no play is observed in them, we advise you to immediately contact the service center where the Starline E90 alarm system was installed.

THANK YOU so much for the very useful information in the article. Everything is presented very clearly. It feels like a lot of work has been done to analyze the operation of the eBay store

    • Thank you and other regular readers of my blog. Without you, I would not be motivated enough to dedicate much time to maintaining this site. My brain is structured this way: I like to dig deep, systematize scattered data, try things that no one has done before or looked at from this angle. It’s a pity that our compatriots have no time for shopping on eBay because of the crisis in Russia. They buy from Aliexpress from China, since goods there are much cheaper (often at the expense of quality). But online auctions eBay, Amazon, ETSY will easily give the Chinese a head start in the range of branded items, vintage items, handmade items and various ethnic goods.
