In 2014, almost everyone can use smartphones. But at the same time they don’t live long. When planning to go out even just for a weekend, not to mention a full two-week vacation, we take with us a portable battery, an additional removable battery, if it can be replaced, and adapter cables. And then the brilliant thought comes to mind that there is still a good old Nokia lying in the closet, which will never leave you to the mercy of fate. And we have to give up the benefits of IT development in favor of the treasured two weeks of work offline. But does everything have to be so critical?

We are not one of those who think that a smartphone that lasts longer than one day is already a long-liver. We won’t talk about optimization, and which of the coolest smartphones alive today lasts the longest in battery mode. We were interested in smartphones with giant batteries. After all, until a chic update of batteries of all stripes comes, even though scientists have been struggling with this for several days now, we have to live somehow. So that you can recharge someone else’s smartphone for a month on the island yourself. And a player. And a camera. Well, you get the idea. The devices that we have collected under one roof will save you from power banks of all kinds, searching for adapters to different outlets in the world, and some of them would definitely appeal to the dudes from the TV series Lost. Overall, who has the biggest battery?

Out of the heat, the first place unconditionally goes to Highscreen Boost 2 SE with 6000 mAh on board. This is absolute leadership. If you want more, congratulations, you're in the right place. Because the kit includes another battery - 3000 mAh. This is, of course, less, but manufacturers include a spare tire in the kit! The performance indicators on one charge break all the patterns of perception of Android reality - 3D games for about 12 hours, and browsing for about 15. Battery Test squeals with delight! So if you are going on vacation and are not going to play games there, then this will be enough for you.

To say that this advantage has its drawback is to say nothing. It is visible to the naked eye, and this flaw is called “brick”. The smartphone looks like a brick, weighs like a brick, and is close to its ideal width. If this does not bother you in the pursuit of autonomy, we are only happy for you. Let's go look for something smaller ourselves.

Parameters: 68.6 x 140 x 14.8 mm, weight 203 grams

Only Philips has come closest to the leader so far. Their Xenium line differs very favorably from other smartphones and phones precisely in the presence of capacious batteries, and the Philips Xenium W6610 with a 5300 mAh battery was simply the crown of creation. He visited us for a test, and the impression was wow!

During the test I had to charge it twice. Once after a battery test, which it failed due to overheating, the second time after a week of use. I remember when, after this very week, the smartphone reached 10% charge level, I switched it to energy-saving mode, and after a couple of days it seemed to me that in front of me was Koschey the Immortal, because he did not want to discharge. In short, a personally tested, excellent option for travelers.

Dimensions: 145 x 74 x 11 mm, weight 200 grams

The Chinese company decided not to bother with the naming of its standalone star and gave the smartphone a name based on the biggest advantage of the device - a 5000 mAh battery. We didn’t hold the smart phone in our hands, so we’ll have to take the manufacturers’ word for it: 11 hours in mode watching videos or browsing Wi-Fi, 125 hours of listening to music, 47 hours of talk time or 1000 (!) in standby mode. Wow, I’ll tell you and name the price of $300 on the Chinese market. And there are also very good characteristics. FullHD display, 8-core MediaTeck MT6592 with 2 GB of RAM and 13 MP camera. Anyway, wrap up two please.

Parameters: 145 x 72.3 x 9 mm, weight 146 grams

Not as cool as the THL 5000, but also with a capacity of 5000 mAh. I haven’t heard anything about it in Ukraine, but in Russia this smartphone even has a group of adoring fans on VK. It has a low cost, average characteristics, 2 SIM cards, a huge screen and an even larger battery. This is how I briefly and clearly made it clear to you that the device is worthy of attention if you are looking for something long-lasting and with a familiar appearance.

Dimensions: 81 x 151 x 9 mm, weight 165 grams

This is a very specific device. And, to be honest, I didn’t see anyone with him in real life. But this phone is an interesting test subject. At least look at him. And then on its delivery package. And all because the battery capacity is 5000 mAh and it can charge anyone.

I met users on the Internet who speak very highly of the phone. It goes without saying that such a device has its own, niche audience. These are people who need a smartphone solely for making calls and interacting with other equipment. The device is to some extent Samaritan. Not only can you charge other phones, you can also connect a lamp while camping. From user experience, the result was decent - about 3 weeks. And the light bulb connected to the phone stayed on for a little over 4 hours :) In general, it’s loud, with 2 SIM cards, a USB port on the side for other devices and a whole set of additional cord locks. And the fact that it’s not the first beauty... but what a cool one!

Parameters: 120 x 56 x 25 mm, weight 170 grams

This device is the record holder for the lifespan of the spring-summer 2013 season. The 4050 mAh battery gave it such leadership last year, but now it is trailing behind, and we included it in the rating solely because it is a phablet . The 6.1-inch diagonal caused a lot of controversy, and this is still the case; a capacious battery was a necessity for such a beast of a machine. And he also showed himself on the good side with his longevity. In general, if you need to go on a short business trip, but don’t want to take a laptop with you, a two-in-one option is a suitable option.

Parameters: 163.5 × 85.7 × 9.9, weight 198 grams

We put Lenovo at the very end. They have a couple of models that the company characterizes as business smartphones with a high-capacity battery. But you understand that next to the devices described above, I want to put the word “capacious” in quotation marks. After all, they have 4000 mAh batteries. The devices achieve good battery life thanks to the excellent Power Manager application. Not only can you use each of these devices for about three days, but you can also recharge someone else’s weak-willed smart phone. A smartphone with superpowers.

Lenovo P780 parameters: 143 x 72 x 10 mm, weight 176 grams

Lenovo S860 parameters: 150 x 77 x 10.3 mm, weight 190 grams

Afterword

As the owner of Oppo Find 5, I honestly admit that I often look to the left in the direction of Philips and Len. I found out about THL 5000, and my hands started itching. Otherwise, carrying a lanyard, an adapter for an outlet and an external battery with you all the time is a dreary task. Some of these phones can be purchased as a main device, while others are ideal for long trips outside of four walls. In general, there is plenty to choose from. And if all this is not to your liking, well, external batteries are a dime a dozen.

Surveys show that the autonomy rating of a smartphone is one of the key, if not the main, parameter when choosing a phone. The reason is clear - modern devices can provide outstanding speed, but the operating time on a single charge leaves much to be desired. Therefore, you have to choose carefully.

As part of this publication, we will compare the new flagships of 2017 in terms of autonomy rating and operating time on a single charge in different operating modes. To make the picture complete and the article as informative as possible, we will include in the comparison the best Chinese flagships of last year, iPhone 7, LG V20 and Google Pixel with its older brother.

Autonomy rating of flagship smartphones 2016-2017

Let's start with a complex indicator - the autonomy rating. The battery life rating of a smartphone shows how long the battery lasts on average if you talk on 3G networks for 1 hour a day, watch videos for 1 hour and use the Internet for 1 hour. In other words, the autonomy rating characterizes the operating time of the battery under standard operating conditions.

The Samsung 2017 flagship climbed unexpectedly high. Unexpected, because the Galaxy S8+ display with a diagonal of 6.2 inches and a resolution of 2960 x 1440 consumes a lot of energy. However, by optimizing software and advanced hardware, the developers managed to compensate for the screen's appetites. However, with the Always On Display function enabled, the battery life rating of the Samsung 2017 flagship will be lower - 58 hours.

Note. Charts do not display correctly in the Samsung Internet browser, older browsers, and some built-in browsers on mobile platforms. We recommend opening the publication in the current builds of Google Chrome, Opera or Firefox.

Flagship comparison: battery life rating (hours)

Chinese flagships 2017 took places in the middle of the table. The leadership of the 2016 Xiaomi flagship is a little surprising, because the Mi 5 battery capacity is only 3000 mAh. One of the worst results is from the LG G6, despite the 3300 mAh. The lowest battery rating is the iPhone 7 with a 1960 mAh battery and the Google Pixel with a 2770 mAh battery.

New flagships 2017: call time

Of the new flagships in 2017, the S8+ lasted the longest in calls. Last year's phones - Google Pixel XL and OnePlus 3T - became the longest-lived ones when talking on 3G networks. In the middle part of the rating, all smartphones showed comparable results. The iPhone 7 was once again an outsider.

Battery life when surfing the web and watching videos

Comparing phones in terms of time spent surfing the Internet and watching videos is interesting because in these modes the screen has a noticeable impact on the battery life rating of the smartphone. The larger the screen and the higher the resolution, the more difficult it is to feed it, so by default compact smartphones with Full HD resolution and lower get an advantage, although only the iPhone 7 is lower.

When the screen is active, the battery lasts less, this is understandable, the question is how strong the drop in numbers will be compared to a conversation on 3G networks, and how much the indicators will differ when watching videos and surfing the web, because in the second case not only the screen is active, but also a modem.

In terms of Internet browsing time, Huawei Mate 9 became the best in the 2016-2017 flagship league. The 4000 mAh battery is enough for 14 hours of operation, and this despite the 5.9-inch diagonal. The performance was affected by Full HD resolution, which is less demanding on the battery. Regarding the manufacturing process of Kirin 960 (Huawei Mate 9 chipset), it cannot be considered an advantage; All flagships are built on modern platforms; there are no models on 20 nm or 28 nm process technology among them.

The iPhone 7 Plus has excellent numbers, which, unlike the basic version, has a 2900 mAh battery. Xiaomi Mi5 and Galaxy S8+ are ranked high. The iPhone 7 also has good performance, which is explained by the resolution of 1334 x 750 with a diagonal of 4.7 inches. Google Pixel again found itself in the group of outsiders, accompanied by LG V20 and Xperia XZs.

Flagship comparison: Internet browsing time

The last mode for testing autonomy is watching videos. The modem is not working here, but the graphics adapter is actively working, which is why the numbers may be very different from those we saw in the previous rating.

iPhone 7 Plus slides into the bottom half of the table of ranks. He was accompanied by iPhone 7, HTC U Ultra, LG V20 and. Slightly improved the damaged reputation of Google Pixel. The leaders were the Samsung flagships produced in 2016-2017, Xiaomi Mi5 and OnePlus 3T. The Chinese flagships Huawei Mate 9 and P10 Plus are gaining good numbers.

Flagship autonomy rating 2016-2017: results

The 2016 model with a large screen and, accordingly, increased battery capacity also shows consistently high results. The basic versions with a smaller battery capacity are inferior to them, although only slightly.

Among the Chinese flagships, we highlight Xiaomi Mi 5 and OnePlus 3T. Smartphones hold a charge well in almost all operating modes, and Mi5 generally topped the overall battery life rating of smartphones.

Huawei's flagships occupy places in the middle of the table, although they periodically slide to the bottom. Among Huawei phones, Huawei Mate 9 looks preferable.

The greatest problems with autonomy await owners of Google Pixel, iPhone 7 and LG V20. If you often use screen-on modes, you can add Xperia XZs and Xperia XZs to the group of outsiders.

When looking for a new smartphone, we often pay close attention to how long the gadget can work away from a power outlet. We invite you to find out which models you should keep in mind when asking the price of modern devices.

So, what smartphones of modern modifications have the ability to work for a long time without recharging?

1.Huawei Mate 9

The Mate 9 is one of the few expensive smartphones that offers long battery life. With intensive use, it lasts almost twice as long as the Samsung Galaxy S7. In addition, it is also one of the best smartphones in XXL size, in the punktował test with high speed and with a dual camera. Its large screen is "only" Full HD - in this test, however, this turned out to be a big advantage.

The price of the smartphone starts at $479.

2. Acer Liquid Z630

The Acer Liquid Z630 is a favorite among users looking for the best battery life for little money. The display is as large as the one on the iPhone 7 Plus, and image clarity, speed and execution, while not top-notch, are adequate. The equipment includes LTE, Dual SIM, a removable battery and a microSD slot. It's a pity that there is no update to Android 6.

The Acer Liquid Z630 is priced at around $144.

The predecessor of the winner of this test does not go down in history. Huawei Mate 8 offers good technology and a 6-inch display for less money. The XXL screen, like the Mate 9, has “only” the classic Full HD resolution, and a moderate number of pixels is an important factor affecting battery life.

Huawei Mate 8 price starts at USD 373.

4. Apple iPhone 6 Plus

Short battery life with frequent use has always been a weak point of many iPhone models. The notable exception here is the iPhone 6 Plus. The gadget, especially when reading, consumes less energy than many competitors. However, the speed of work today, of course, is no longer impressive.

The price of Apple iPhone 6 Plus is about USD 288.

Surprise: Samsung's top models, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, lag far behind dozens of phones with better batteries. But the top 10 included the most important Korean model in the middle class: the Galaxy A5 2016, which costs only half the price of the S7 Edge, but did not make a single mistake in the test and noted good durability.

The price of Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) starts from USD 270.

6. Lenovo Moto Play

Moto Play is not only appreciated for its beautiful, bright display, but also for its neat, clean Android. Plus, you can easily equip the gadget with new features, such as a stereo speaker, Hasselblad camera, projector or battery pack.

Lenovo Moto Play price starts at USD 317.

7. Lenovo Moto X Force

Moto X Force is a successful project. This higher-end phone comes with a fast processor, outstanding rear camera, and a powerful battery. The best part, however, is the display, which is not only very high quality, but also shock-resistant!

The iPhone 6s Plus debuted in 2015, but today it still makes a good impression: noticeably faster than the iPhone 6. The main differences compared to the current iPhone 7 Plus are the lack of a dual camera and a waterproof case. But the 6s Plus also has a headphone jack and better battery life.

The price of Apple iPhone 6s Plus is about USD 360.

BQ is one of the few European smartphone manufacturers. The Aquaris X5 is a solid budget device. The Spanish phone has virtually no weak points, and its good battery life and surprisingly good camera make it an attractive choice.

Huawei Honor 8 is a gadget with remarkable parameters for relatively little money: a bright Full HD display and a powerful battery. The design is stylish, there is a fingerprint scanner. In terms of speed and image quality in everyday use, the difference between this smartphone and the Huawei P9 model is difficult to notice.

Huawei Honor 8 price starts at USD 329.

Long gone are the days when you couldn’t charge your phone for weeks. Many modern smartphones cannot “live” even half a day without recharging. But such is the price of progress. Our pocket gadgets can become a full-fledged replacement for a PC and, accordingly, they need energy and power for this. Therefore, today you can’t live without a power bank. But, still, you shouldn’t rely only on a portable battery; you must definitely pay attention to its endurance and ability to last without recharging. What are the most autonomous smartphones of 2018?

This is exactly the question that the editors of the popular publication PhoneArena asked themselves. To do this, they tested a number of new products that are now in the public domain. And made up rating of smartphones with the best autonomy 2018. As a result of their research, they were able to establish that the battery life of the gadget depends not only on the battery capacity, but also on a number of other factors. How we use our phone matters a lot. For example, for smartphones with an OLED screen, even the choice of background image matters. The lighter it is, the more energy is consumed, the darker it is, the less. This is all due to the fact that OLED devices illuminate each pixel individually. Therefore, the darker the image, the fewer pixels are illuminated and, accordingly, less energy is spent on it.

TOP 5 smartphones with the best battery life 2018 according to PhoneArena

1. BlackBerry Motion

In first place was the BlackBerry Motion with a 4,000 mAh battery, which is capable of more than 13 hours of continuous operation. Today this model can be bought in Ukraine for around 13,500 UAH. It has a 5.5-inch screen, a Snapdragon 625 processor and 4 GB of RAM. And also protection from dust and moisture, and a fingerprint scanner.

2. BlackBerry KeyOne

Second place also belongs to the representative of the BlackBerry brand. The KeyOne smartphone has a 3,505 mAh battery, which provides more than 12 hours of work. By the way, just like the first model, it has a Snapdragon 625 processor. Perhaps this is where the success of these two phones lies.
Unlike Motion, it has not only a touch screen, but also a keyboard. The display size is 4.5 inches, its RAM is 3 GB, and there is a fingerprint scanner. In addition, it has an NFC chip (you will find 8 more budget models with NFC).

You can buy a BlackBerry KeyOne today for 16,000 UAH.

3.Huawei Mate 10 Pro

This smartphone is based on Huawei’s proprietary processor – Hisilicon Kirin 970, which, together with a 4,000 mAh battery, provides it 12 hours of battery life.

Despite the fact that this model, with a 6-inch screen, has a shorter battery life, it combines the best qualities of the two above. It has NFC and protection from dust and water. In addition, the main camera has a 20-megapixel lens, RAM - 6 GB, and there is also a fingerprint scanner. But the gadget is not cheap; today you can buy this smartphone for 21-25 thousand hryvnia (also find out which ones are available today in Ukraine).

4. Samsung Galaxy S8 Active

This model surpasses both S8 and S8+ in battery life. S8 Active received Snapdragon 835 and a 4,000 mAh battery, which provide it with almost 11 hours of continuous operation without recharging. The gadget also boasts a 5.8-inch screen, 4 GB of RAM, a fingerprint scanner, NFC, dust and moisture protection.

But, unfortunately, this model cannot be purchased in Ukraine.

5. Apple iPhone 8 Plus

The top five most durable smartphones of 2018 is closed by the iPhone 8 Plus. It is worth noting that this model stands out from the smallest battery presented above, its capacity is only 2,675 mAh. But at the same time, the smartphone is capable of ten and a half hours of battery life. Just like the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, the smartphone runs on a proprietary, only Eplov, processor - A11 Bionic. Its display has a 5.5-inch diagonal, 3 GB of RAM, protection from water and dust, as well as NFC and a fingerprint scanner.

You can buy the model for 24-33 thousand UAH.

A smartphone that is not worth buying if you need a durable gadget, according to PhoneArena

It became the flagship LG G6 with a 3,300 mAh battery.

This gadget can only provide 6 hours of battery life. By the way, this is the only flagship of 2017 that was released on the outdated Snapdragon 821. Perhaps this was the reason for the low level of energy efficiency of the device. After all, all its other options are in no way inferior to the above listed models. 5.7-inch screen, 4 GB RAM, NFC, dust and moisture protection, fingerprint scanner.
Today, in Ukraine this model can be

Today, manufacturers pay more attention to smartphone performance and the quality (and quantity) of cameras, which is why our top list does not include the latest flagships from Samsung or Apple. However, many durable smartphones can offer not only a long operating time, but also good hardware.

We measured the autonomy of the devices during continuous Internet surfing with maximum screen brightness and a couple of background applications.

1. Caterpillar CAT S61

Operating time: 17 hours 35 minutes

First up is the workhorse Caterpillar CAT S61, an industrial smartphone for the field. The gadget is very durable: in our test it lasted more than 17 hours without recharging. However, the smartphone is unlikely to be popular among ordinary users. First of all, this is a niche device intended for engineers and builders. It has a thermal imager, air pollution sensors, a laser rangefinder and an incredibly rugged housing (IP68). Whether you hammer in nails or drop it in water, your smartphone will survive everything.

Otherwise, everything is like other modern gadgets: USB-C connector, 4500 mAh battery, Snapdragon 630, 4/64 GB of memory, 16 MP camera and Full HD screen with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. The gadget runs on Android 8.1.

2. LG X Power 2

Working time: 15 hours 45 minutes

Almost 16 hours is a lot, but with the LG X Power 2 you have to make some concessions for the sake of long battery life. The display has a low resolution (1280x720 pixels by 5.5 inches), there is no fingerprint scanner, and the 13 megapixel camera only takes decent photos in good lighting.

The smartphone runs outdated Android 7, based on an eight-core MediaTek MT6750 1.5 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory. But they don’t ask much for the gadget – about 10,000 rubles.

3. LG X Power

Operating time: 13 hours 45 minutes

An honorable third place went to the predecessor of Power 2 - LG X Power. The gadget is two hours behind the older model, but with almost 14 hours of battery life, it is still very durable.

The hardware here is not top-end (after all, the gadget is more than a year old): MediaTek MT6735, 2/16 GB of memory and a 13 MP camera. But the main thing is the 4100 mAh battery, which makes this budget LG truly autonomous.

4. Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact

Xperia XZ1 Compact is a compact and high-performance gadget on Android 8 that can work without recharging for more than 13 hours. Inside this angular “brick” from Sony is the current filling in the form of Snapdragon 835, 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. To charge the gadget, you can use the universal USB-C connector.

As befits a smartphone from Sony, the Xperia XZ1 Compact has a good camera with a 19 megapixel matrix, which supports super slow motion 960 frames per second and works with a 3D scanning application. And the gadget is protected by IP65/68, so there is no fear of accidentally dropping it on the asphalt.

5. Blackberry Motion

Operating time: 13 hours 44 minutes

Blackberry without a mechanical keyboard? And this happens if it is a Blackberry Motion, which made it into our rating for a decent 13 hours of battery life. Despite the lack of a keyboard typical for the brand, the business smartphone offers all the Blackberry features for the security of user data.

The device is no longer new, but it is still well equipped: Snapdragon 625, 4/32 GB of memory, USB-C. It also has a bright and colorful LCD display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels and a diagonal of 5.5 inches. The camera (12 MP) is not the best and is only suitable for shooting in good lighting. Blackberry Motion runs on Android 8, supports dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 n/ac and Bluetooth 4.2.

6. Xiaomi Mi 6 64GB

Operating time: 13 hours 43 minutes

In sixth place is last year’s model Xiaomi Mi6. In addition to good autonomy, the gadget offers high performance (Snapdragon 835) and a large amount of memory (6/64 GB in the basic configuration). The smartphone is in our top 3 in terms of charging speed: in just 90 minutes the Xiaomi battery will be charged to 100%.
