Since childhood, we all remember a strange word in the French manner that our parents used to call a wardrobe for storing clothes - “chiffonier”. A wardrobe for a bedroom was very popular and could be found in almost any home. How, in fact, does a wardrobe differ from a regular wardrobe and how to choose a wardrobe for a bedroom? Read about this in our publication.

What is the difference between a wardrobe and a wardrobe?

The main difference between the concepts of “wardrobe”/“wardrobe” is considered to be that the first is a generalized option for the name of pieces of furniture in which clothes are stored. But not every product that contains something can be called that. For example, bedside tables are not wardrobes because their sizes are too small. Also, bookcases are not suitable for this concept, because they do not have doors.

A wardrobe is a large, roomy piece of furniture that has sections for storing clothes. Moreover, such products usually have shelves and drawers.

Cabinets, as a rule, also have an addition to their name, which determines their specific purpose. For example, I use special pieces of furniture to store dishes, namely cupboards. Products that are intended for the same purpose, but also have a glass display case, are called sideboards. Bedroom wardrobes, for example, that have drawers can be called chests of drawers. In addition, you can often find the name of a bookcase, kitchen cabinet, etc.

What is a wardrobe

However, what is the fundamental difference between wardrobes? In fact, it is simply too narrow a term that has French origins: chiffonnier is the name for linen cabinets. The structure of the wardrobe is the same as that of wardrobes, but wardrobes are designed specifically for storing clothes. Therefore, this name is not suitable for a piece of furniture that contains household appliances or other things.

A wardrobe is furniture that has drawers for linen, rods with hangers, and shelves. Such products may also have sections for storing ties and accessories, as well as mobile baskets or compartments in which you can keep scarves, etc. Some models are also equipped with special places in which you can put shoes. There must be a mirror (built-in) in the wardrobe.

Of course, today you can not hear such a word very often, but it used to be quite popular. Often now, pieces of furniture in which clothes, shoes and accessories are stored are simply called “wardrobe”. And it cannot be said that doing so is wrong.

It should be said that wardrobes can have different purposes, for example, there is a wardrobe for children or a wardrobe for a bedroom, depending on the characteristics of the room in which the furniture will be placed.

Types of wardrobes

What types of wardrobes can they have according to their design?

  • Ordinary wardrobes made of wood or chipboards. Previously, it was customary to use only hinged doors for such cabinets, but today “compartment” designs are becoming increasingly popular. Such wardrobes, equipped with mirrors that are simply built into the door, look quite presentable and modern. At the same time, they can accommodate a large number of things, so you do not need to install additional chests of drawers or cabinets in the room.
  • Built-in wardrobes. You should not necessarily consider only options for purchasing free-standing furniture. Today you can buy ready-made products or order built-in wardrobes especially for you, which truly transform the look of the room. Such wardrobes can easily be filled with different sections and shelves for storing clothes and accessories. However, among the disadvantages of such cabinets, it is worth noting that they cannot be rearranged in the future.
  • Corner wardrobe. By keeping a minimal, designated space in the room, you can free up more usable space. In addition, such an interior will look lighter if you place the cabinet in the corner. Sometimes, if you use a corner wardrobe in the design of a room, it becomes possible to correct the disadvantages in the layout of the room.

Where to put the wardrobe

It is better to place large pieces of furniture against short walls to maintain proportionality in the interior. Tall and narrow cabinets will look good in corners. If you are choosing a wardrobe for the bedroom, then the space between it and the bed must be at least one meter. Cabinet doors should not touch the window sill, and most importantly, nothing should block the doors when they open.

How to choose a wardrobe

Be sure to pay attention to the height of the furniture frame. If we talk about the clothing department, in which suits, blouses, shirts, etc. are stored, then it should have indicators of at least 120-150 centimeters. The space in the closet reserved for long dresses or coats should reach a height of 150 to 180 cm. The width of the wardrobe section in the wardrobe cannot be less than five or six hangers (trempels), or even better - ten. When choosing a wardrobe, be sure to consider how many people will use this piece of furniture in order to determine its performance.

In terms of depth, the wardrobe should be as deep as possible. A narrow wardrobe can have values from one to one and a half meters.

Any wardrobe must have space for belts, ties and scarves, so make sure there are hangers and drawers. Otherwise, you simply will have nowhere to put small items so that they are easy to find and so that they do not get wrinkled.

Well, of course, if you really need a wardrobe, it should have a built-in mirror (remember that tall mirrors visually elongate the silhouette, so this option is more acceptable to see yourself in full height).

How to choose a wardrobe for clothes

A built-in wardrobe will look great in a small room, because it will save space.

Today it is fashionable to purchase a radius version of cabinets. This wardrobe has oval panels. They look presentable, especially if they were made to order. Varieties of radial wardrobes include concave, convex, diagonal options. Such pieces of furniture are suitable for rooms of more impressive size, because such a structure cannot be placed except in the corner of the room or in the middle of one of the walls.

Be careful! A narrow cabinet requires aluminum profiles, while large models have steel elements that prevent them from deforming under the weight of their weight.

Types of corner wardrobes

There are four types of corner models. Thus, it is customary to distinguish five-walled wardrobes, triangular products in the form of a trapezoid, or the so-called “L-shaped” pieces of furniture. Bedroom wardrobes can be selected depending on the size of the room, its decoration and your personal preferences. One of the varieties of wardrobes are corner models.

How to choose a corner wardrobe for the bedroom

It is necessary to select corner models, taking into account the place in which they will be installed, the presence of additional elements (shelves and partitions, drawers, stands, compartments and baskets). In addition, your personal aesthetic preferences should play a big role when choosing such an impressive piece of furniture.

The material for the production of sliding wardrobe doors can often be chipboard, as well as MDF. In fact, in practical applications they are quite resistant to humidity and solar radiation. You can choose such a wardrobe for your bedroom without fear that it will become deformed.

A fairly important element in such models are roller mechanisms. It is best if they are made of aluminum or steel (the first option is preferable). Be sure to pay attention to the strength and reliability of sliding doors.

A wardrobe in a bedroom categorically replaces cabinet furniture and bulky wardrobes, becoming a salvation for those who do not have space for dressing room. Its undeniable advantage is maximum functionality, since it allows you to optimally use every centimeter, the entire volume of the room allocated for the cabinet - from wall to wall, from floor to ceiling. Thanks to the individual design, the wardrobe can be organically “fitted” into places that were previously considered oversized, for example, various niches.

Advantages

A wardrobe in a bedroom can become both a highlight of the interior and an unsightly relic of the Soviet past. In addition, it is necessary that it not only fits into the interior, but is also functional. To achieve such a combination, you need to prepare carefully and in advance for choosing this item.

Several factors speak in favor of sliding wardrobes:

  • save additional space, as a result - there are no “dead” zones reserved for the door opening radius
  • storage system – the internal space can be organized according to the exact requests of the owner, taking into account the specifics of the stored items
  • – allow you to visually enlarge even a very modest room

A spacious built-in wardrobe in the bedroom can even serve as a mini-dressing room.

However, the advantages of this cabinet design do not end there. An important nuance is its significant capacity. So, you can easily arrange things of different lengths in it, and numerous shelves will help you freely place hosiery, linen, accessories and other small items.

This leads to the next significant advantage of such a cabinet - the absence of the need for additional pieces of furniture, such as chests of drawers, mini-wardrobes and their analogues. After all, you can fill the cabinet with all the necessary shelves, sections and compartments that will perform many functions. At the same time, the space in it can be organized according to your choice, but it is still preferable to leave the lower shelves for some household items if there is no place for them in other rooms. This could be: a vacuum cleaner, an iron, unnecessary dishes and even an ironing board. However, you shouldn’t get carried away so as not to turn a neat closet into a sloppy attic for unnecessary utensils.

Disadvantages of a wardrobe: what you need to pay attention to

Despite these obvious advantages of the model, before deciding to install it, you should consider the possible disadvantages of the wardrobe. These include the following:

  • insufficient strength of aluminum cabinet parts (if you chose them). This is explained by the softness of the metal, which is why such cabinets are short-lived;
  • the possibility of failure of the grooves of sliding doors: they can simply jam. The reasons can be very different: dust, small parts, pet fur, hair, etc.;
  • lack of precise geometry, despite all preliminary measurements. This is explained by the fact that finished models are not perfectly flat.

Be careful when choosing a door extension mechanism - it should not be too noisy. After all, the bedroom is a zone of relaxation and comfort, which nothing should disturb.

Sliding wardrobe in the bedroom: a decorative element

Thanks to the decorative facade, the wardrobe can be easily integrated into any interior. On the one hand, if necessary, it will help to literally dissolve the wardrobe in space, making it virtually “invisible”. On the other hand, an original design or unusual decoration of sliding doors will help add color and expressiveness to the bedroom.

The mirror is an important part of the decor. In addition, if a mirror is built into the cabinet you choose from the outside, this will visually expand the space of even a small room. You will also save space, since you can easily do without a free-standing mirror. From a decorative point of view, such a cabinet will fit into most modern styles. There are several options for mirrors: matte, bronze, graphite, tinted and others.

Advice! Do not place a cabinet with a mirror in dark rooms. Such cabinets also do not go well with aristocratic furniture made of carved wood, velvet and antiques.

If you choose a model without a mirror, then you should make sure that its appearance matches the interior of the room in texture, color and style. In addition to the aesthetic appearance, this will visually expand the space, since the cabinet will actually merge with the entire room without overloading it.

All this makes the wardrobe an indispensable accessory in a small bedroom.

Due to the fact that the wardrobe looks like a wall, it is indispensable for interior design in some modern styles, such as:

  • Scandinavian (which generally does not provide for the presence of bulky cabinets in the interior);
  • hi-tech;
  • minimalism.

Color selection

When choosing a wardrobe, one of the primary values is the correct selection of colors. It all depends on your preferences. Also, the choice of color should be consistent with the size of the room, its purpose and stylistic orientation. Thus, cabinets in dark shades look extremely impressive. However, it should be remembered that such colors visually narrow the space, although gloss neutralizes this effect. Therefore, black and other dark cabinets are better to choose for large rooms. If you are arranging a children's bedroom, then preference can be given to bright colored cabinets that will delight the kids.

Advice! A red cabinet can certainly become the highlight of your interior and a source of pride for the hostess. However, it should be remembered that this is an aggressive color that looks inappropriate in the bedroom, as it can irritate the nervous system and even cause insomnia.

Also, sliding wardrobes can be classified depending on the details and accessories. For example:

  • with a mezzanine on which suitcases and other necessary things can easily fit, which saves space;
  • with open shelves on which you can place a computer, TV, built-in fireplace and, of course, books.

Features of accommodation

There are several types of classifications of sliding wardrobes. Let’s take a closer look at the most significant of them – the particulars of cabinet placement. According to this criterion, models are divided into the following main categories:

  • built-in;
  • hull;
  • radius;
  • angular;
  • diagonal;
  • diagonal-angular.

Let's take a closer look at them. Built-in wardrobes will save not only space in the room (which in itself is great), but also your budget. After all, you will save on the back and top walls of the cabinet. A cabinet (or fully assembled) cabinet is a full-fledged independent piece of furniture. It is adapted to movement, has walls, a ceiling, lower and upper parts. Thus, it represents a holistic model. Radius sliding wardrobes can fit into any room, as they come in any shape. They are the most spacious and functional and come in several types: concave or convex, oval or asymmetrical, etc.

  • Backlight. It is ideal for adding effect at night, helping to create a cozy atmosphere. For this purpose, a special external lighting with low power is suitable. And for functionality purposes, it is advisable to place lighting inside the closet to make it easier to find the necessary thing. In this case, it is already preferable to opt for more powerful light bulbs.
  • Special stickers. They are made to order and look interesting on wardrobe mirrors. You can choose absolutely any image, but it is better to take into account the stylistic direction of the interior.
  • Exotic decorative materials such as rattan, leather, bamboo. These elements will help you keep the room in the style you want. For example, rattan and bamboo are ideal for colonial, eco-friendly and oriental styles (see photo), and leather will be appropriate in minimalism.

How to choose the right one

First, decide on the form. Which wardrobe is best for you - cabinet or built-in? It is also necessary to take into account the door opening mechanism. You have two options: monorail or roller. The first option is preferable because it is more reliable. But the price will be appropriate. Another option is to choose inexpensive cabinets with a roller mechanism. However, in this case, the door can quickly become unusable.

You should also pay attention to the profile of the sliding system, and more specifically, to its material. Basically it can be either aluminum or steel. Systems with steel profiles are cheaper due to the fact that they produce a lot of noise. But if this does not bother you, then you can safely purchase such a cabinet, as it is quite reliable. Aluminum structures look chic and attract with their almost silent mechanism. In addition, you get more options for decorating the front of the door. At the same time, their service life is less than steel ones.

Among the wide variety of cabinets, it is not so easy to choose the appropriate product, the design and functions of which would fully meet the needs of the buyer.

First of all, the closet in the bedroom should be in harmony with the overall design.

You can plan the arrangement of furniture based on the closet for dresses and linen only when there is no furniture in the bedroom at all. But this happens extremely rarely.

Also, you cannot buy based only on viewing a photo of a product on the Internet. You need to visit a store or production workshop to clearly verify the parameters of the product.

Does the cabinet model play a role? Of course.

To buy a comfortable and stylish wardrobe for your bedroom interior, you need to know some basic points:

  • door opening order;
  • the existence of mezzanines;
  • number of shelves and hanger bars;
  • material;
  • price qualities of accessories;
  • color;
  • manufacturer.

There are three types of door opening: hinged, sliding and combined. The hinged method is used in ordinary cabinets, the sliding method in sliding wardrobes, and the combined method in individual orders.

The mezzanine is an additional cabinet installed on top of the main one. Used to store clothes, shoes and other household items.

The size of a cabinet with a mezzanine is significantly higher, so before purchasing, you must first measure the height so as not to make a mistake.

Built-in furniture is handy for bedrooms with a small area. It can be without walls and is best prepared to order.

Our craftsmen will measure all the necessary dimensions, coordinate the design features with you and make a beautiful cabinet that matches your wishes.

Photos of bedroom wardrobes of a similar type can be found on the Internet.

The abundance of shelves and various sections is the exclusive fantasy of everyone who wants to purchase a wardrobe.

Some people are satisfied only with a wardrobe, while others are satisfied with a wardrobe with frills. The only thing you can't miss is the barbell.

For dresses, shirts and sweaters, you can install a wooden, plastic or aluminum rod, and for outerwear, fur coats and coats, the rod should be steel.

Models of wardrobes

They produce a large number of types and models of wardrobes for bedrooms. Each of them has both positive and negative sides.

How to come to the best solution for the design of a bedroom closet, taking into account its area, desires and other factors?

The most popular models are with hinged and sliding doors.

The disadvantage of hinged cabinets in small areas is that when you open the door, the area is immediately lost and the passage is blocked.

In this case, it is more convenient to install a wardrobe with a sliding door. They are compact, look modern and their price is less than that of ordinary, familiar cabinets.

In addition, you can install any sash: wood, glass, combined and others. Everything is subject to imagination and depends on the capabilities of the manufacturer.

Installing corner cabinets in a small bedroom greatly benefits the area. They are as spacious as regular cabinets, but take up much less space.

Behind such a cabinet you can hide wall defects, plumbing pipes, radiators and other flaws that spoil the design of the room.

Cabinets with additional niches made of shelves on the side will provide additional storage space for cosmetics, souvenirs, various magazines and other tinsel.

Structural elements of the cabinet interior:

  • shelf for hats and caps;
  • shelf for shoes;
  • bar for hangers;
  • shelves for various small things.

For each type of item, you need to allocate a separate shelf: one for hats, another for T-shirts. It is necessary to arrange things so that they are not tightly packed to avoid the appearance of moths.

To prevent this from happening, you need to buy a cabinet with holes on the back wall for internal ventilation. If the cabinet will be installed in a niche, then ventilation holes must be provided on the facade.

External shelves will replace various bedside tables and tables that clutter up the already small bedroom space.

Niches from external shelves are:

  • open;
  • under glass;
  • closed.

Newfangled solutions

After choosing the model and functions of the cabinet, you should think about the color scheme. A white wardrobe in the bedroom will give it individuality and character.

In addition, the cabinet can be decorated by decorating the facade with film, glass, appliqués or shimmer.

Imagine and create, but remember the main condition: the design must be in harmony with all the accessories in the bedroom.

Photos of wardrobes in the bedroom interior

A wardrobe is essential furniture in the house, especially in bedrooms, where you want to place as many clothes, personal hygiene items, cosmetics, jewelry, bedding, as well as favorite accessories, family photos and mirrors.

Due to limited space, it is necessary to choose the right wardrobe design, size, shape, color, texture in order to complement the existing interior, not overload the atmosphere and fit everything you need in it.

Choosing a shape and size

There are two main types of cabinets: built-in and cabinet, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Built-in models are distinguished by their ideal dimensions, non-standard nature and individual style of execution. In most cases, these structures do not have rear walls, which makes them economical and in demand.

Cabinet furniture is mobile and versatile, as it is not tied to a specific place in the room. The mandatory presence of all components (roof, walls, bottom) makes them stronger and more reliable.

Also, cabinets differ in the way the doors open and in shape:

The swing mechanism is simple, strong and inexpensive, but requires some space to open the doors. The advantages also include good sealing and protection of packed items from sunlight and dust.

The sliding wardrobes are stylish, modern and spacious. They can be installed in both small and spacious rooms. However, a complex system requires regular checking and maintenance, does not tolerate sudden movements, and may suddenly become unusable, and the warranty for such a system usually does not exceed 3 years.

The corner cabinet is a corner structure that is indispensable in small areas. Such furniture smooths out the joints of walls, hides defects, uses the maximum of available square meters and becomes a real “highlight” of the room.

The “accordion” is distinguished by its small narrow dimensions, unusual shape and some insecurity of things, since due to the opening technology the door does not fit tightly to the cabinet body.

The roller shutter system is considered the most expensive, since roller shutters are convenient, airtight and do not take up extra space either inside or outside the cabinet.

Combined models can be corner cabinets with any door opening mechanism or a combination of several types of opening.

Individual requirements for the configuration, style and size of the product dictate the need to manufacture a custom-made cabinet. A similar service is provided by every furniture company and minimizes all associated risks.

Before going to a furniture workshop, it is recommended to study the catalog of cabinets in detail, think in advance about the interior of the room and the functionality of the future purchase. The following tips will help you choose the ideal bedroom set:

If possible, order the development of a room design from a specialist. Don’t forget about the filling of the cabinet, which should be universal and have rods, pull-out shelves, special hangers, deep strong shelves, and so on.

A sliding wardrobe can save up to 20% of free space and use non-functional wall openings or niches. When choosing, it is worth inspecting the edge, which should be solid, undamaged and 1 mm thick. Between melamine and PVC edges, it is better to choose the second option. It is very convenient to have LED lighting inside the cabinet.

It is better to choose wooden materials, solid wood or veneer made of oak, birch, walnut, chipboard, MDF, and cases made of metal plastic or steel. It is better to leave glass doors for living room sets, giving preference to “deaf” and closed sections. A cabinet in light shades will visually increase the space: white, cream tones and the colors of ivory, pine, alder and beech.

New furniture should match the color of other interior items, so do not forget to take a fabric sample from the bed to the store or remember the shade of its cabinet material. Pay attention to the sidewalls, their thickness should be at least 18 mm.

The use of mirror surfaces, which can be left untouched or decorated with sandblasting, stained glass, mosaics, color tinting, photo printing or laser engraving, will visually expand the boundaries of the room.

It is better to entrust the cabinet assembly to professionals, which takes from one and a half to six hours. If your bedroom is less than 20 square meters. m., then pay attention to the corner wardrobe.

Contents and content

The main purpose of the closet is to store things and objects, so its internal compartments should not only be spacious, but also functional. Ideally, you will have the chance to independently think through and design the contents of the structure, which should include several different sections.

So, traditionally, shoes, suitcases, bags are stored in the lower part, everyday items and outerwear are stored in the middle part, and seasonal items, bed linen, and towels are stored in the upper part. It is worth considering additional details in advance: the presence of baskets and shelves for linen and socks, hangers and hooks, elevators, trouser and tie holders, iron holders and space for an ironing board, shelves for shoes.

As for the dimensions, for sections with a bar the width should be at least 80 cm and the height – 150 cm. Standard shelves on average have a square shape with one wall of 60 cm. The depth of the cabinet should not be less than 40 cm.

Children's bedroom

To arrange a room for children, it is better to use solid compositions in order to make maximum use of the available meters, since it is necessary to free up more space for the child’s active games.

Most often, corner designs with open shelving, as well as countertops and pull-out bottom drawers are chosen. Often, in order to save space, a bedroom set is purchased, consisting of a bed on the second tier, rising above the table and a small narrow closet.

Furniture design is considered separately, which includes the use of bright colors and surface decoration with images of cartoon characters, geometric patterns or floral patterns.

The main condition is safety, which requires a serious approach to the environmental friendliness of materials and the application of protection to hazardous surfaces (glass, mirror).

Decorating the doors

An impressively sized wardrobe is an excellent opportunity for its original decoration. The design of a cabinet can be any manipulation from budget hand-painted doors and walls, installation of mirrors, engraving to expensive appliqué made of genuine leather or precious metals.

Studying photographs of bedroom cabinet designs or consulting with a professional interior designer will help you decide on the choice of façade decoration option. In any case, the style of the new piece of furniture should be in organic harmony with the overall mood of the room.

If one is not enough

If a separate wardrobe is not enough, then it is better to choose a wardrobe group that is assembled in random order from a variety of modules. Now in fashion is the principle of an “endless closet”, in which each internal set is attached to the adjacent one through a common sidewall.

It is also popular to use additional modules for cabinet furniture, for example, an attached narrow shelving unit or a shelf that matches the tone of the material or style. You can also modernize the bedside tables and integrate them into the bedroom set along with paired wardrobes and bedding.

In the modern world, you rarely see a bedroom without a closet, since this furniture is the second most important after the bed. Since a wardrobe is usually purchased for a long time, it is worth thinking through everything down to the smallest detail and choosing the most suitable model in terms of size, tone, and design.

Photos of bedroom wardrobes

What kind of wardrobe do you want for your bedroom? Built-in or corner? Have you decided on the price? 110 photos of bedroom wardrobe designs will help you choose.

A bedroom is a special place in the house where you want to rest, relax, hide from everyday problems and worries of the outside world, where you can be alone with yourself or a loved one. In the bedroom we spend our best time - time of rest, so nothing here should distract us from a good sound sleep and a pleasant pastime. There should be no unnecessary things cluttering up the area of the room, bulky furniture or wasted space. Properly selected furniture will help create comfort and convenience, so pay special attention to its choice.

Built-in wardrobe in the bedroom

It is believed that the bedroom begins with the bed, but an equally important element of furniture is the closet, which allows you to hide all unnecessary things and save up to 20 percent of free space. Today, built-in wardrobes have become extremely popular, becoming an excellent alternative to classic cabinet furniture and bulky wardrobes.

An individual design of a built-in wardrobe will help to optimally use every centimeter of the room's space, from wall to wall and from floor to ceiling, while using places that would be considered inappropriate and non-functional with a conventional wardrobe, for example, niches or openings in the wall.

In addition to undeniable functionality, there are several reasons to install a wardrobe:

  1. They are equally well suited for both spacious and small rooms, since their doors open and move along the facade, which does not require freeing up excess free space in the room.
  2. You can design the inside of the cabinet yourself, which will make it very spacious and convenient to use. Select the number, size, location of shelves, determine the need for drawers and sections for storing accessories, add open shelving for storing books or decorative items. You can even design a built-in TV panel if the bedroom area does not allow for a TV stand.
  3. Thanks to new technologies and materials, you can order a wardrobe of the most expressive and intricate design, thereby perfectly emphasizing the individuality of your bedroom. Manufacturers will offer you a frame made of natural wood or metal, with a matte or glossy finish, and doors made of colored glass, mirror or lacquered panels. LED lighting can be installed upon request.

And, of course, a custom-made wardrobe offers a wide choice of sizes and shapes, from a standard rectangular wardrobe to compact and spacious corner furniture.

Corner wardrobe in the bedroom

Corner cabinets have virtually no disadvantages. They are optimal for storing things in a small room. They allow you to profitably use a niche in rooms with a non-standard layout.

The only room for which a corner wardrobe is not suitable is a long, narrow room. In all other cases, a corner furniture set will free up space, and if you use mirrored doors, it will also expand it visually.

Despite its apparent compactness and small size, the corner cabinet is very spacious and can accommodate full vertical storage, drawers for shoes, and a mezzanine.

Built-in corner cabinets tend to be cheaper because they don't require side or back walls, which means less materials are used to make them.

And one more thing. Since we are talking about the furnishings of a small bedroom, it is best to select furniture in light shades. Dark objects attract the eye more, thereby visually narrowing the space. This way you risk turning your room into a gloomy and uninviting one.

Photos of filling the interior space of the wardrobe

The ability to independently design the internal filling of a sliding wardrobe and adjust it to your requirements is another of its undeniable advantages. How to properly distribute the internal space?

First, decide on the purpose of the cabinet, i.e. with what exactly you will store there. To do this, we can conditionally divide it into three zones:

  • Lower part for storing shoes and travel bags;
  • The middle or main part, divided into zones (one for small shelves for storing everyday items, the other for storing outerwear);
  • Mezzanines - for rarely used wardrobe items.

Decide on the small details you need:

  • Baskets and shelves for linen and socks;
  • Hangers for hangers and hooks for wrinkle-resistant clothes;
  • Iron mounts and the ability to install a built-in ironing board;
  • Shelves for shoes, etc.

Cabinet doors can also be used to store ties, belts, cufflinks and other small items.

Decide on the dimensions for each compartment. For example, the height of the section for storing outerwear should be at least 140-150 cm, and its width at least 80 cm. It may be advisable to use a pantograph to store it, which allows you to use the ceiling part of the closet. The dimensions of the upper section should not be more than 40 cm. The height of standard shelves also varies between 40-60 cm.

And one more thing. Consider options for a 2-door, 3-door or multi-section closet. It may be more convenient for you if the compartment with outerwear or shoes opens separately from the part with everyday clothes. The issue of storing outerwear and shoes can also be solved with the help.

Photos of decoration and design

You can also think through the design of your wardrobe yourself. There are a huge number of options for finishing the facade, from a classic mirror to expensive luxury finishing with natural leather, so you will select them to suit the overall interior of the room and depending on your financial capabilities.

The most common option for finishing panels is a mirror. This is also a small interior trick, since the mirror surface will visually expand the space.

You can make a completely mirrored facade, or you can use a small mirror on only one door. If someone doubts the aesthetics of this type of finishing, and it seems boring to him, then frosted sandblasted glass or glass with a sandblasted pattern in the art deco style would be an excellent solution (for more details, see the section “Wardrobe for the bedroom with a pattern”).

Don't be afraid to put a mirrored cabinet in your child's room. Even with severe damage, the glass will not scatter in different directions, but will be held on the surface by a special film coating. As for modern sandblasting, it is also very environmentally friendly and safe for your child. If you are still in doubt, you can choose other finishing options.

By purchasing a wardrobe for a children's room, you, first of all, free up more space for your child's games and development. A compact wardrobe will allow you to wisely place clothes, children's toys, books and other things so that the child can move freely around his own room.

Invite him to participate in the development of the cabinet design himself, help him create the room of his dreams. Today, manufacturers offer a huge selection of children's furniture, with a bright, unique design that will appeal to any child. You can choose children's wardrobes with cheerful photo printing and stained glass, images of your favorite cartoon characters. This design will certainly cause a storm of delight in your baby!

And, of course, do not forget about the main thing - safety. This concerns not only the risk of injury, but also the environmental safety of the materials used to make furniture. The frame of the cabinet must be made of high-quality natural wood or MDF, and the finishing of the facade must be non-toxic, durable and resistant to mechanical damage (if we are talking about the mirror surface of the facade). Even more options.

Patterned design

The drawing in this case involves sandblasting - this is a special technology for processing the glass surface. A stencil of the future design is applied to the mirror, and the surface is treated with a stream of air with quartz sand under pressure. As a result of processing, the area not covered by the stencil becomes matte, and the closed area becomes glossy.

There are a huge number of stencil design options. It could be:

  • japanese calligraphy,
  • abstraction;
  • image of flowers;
  • thematic image;
  • drawing for a children's room.

How to purchase a custom-made wardrobe

Once you have decided on the design (by the way, you don’t have to do this yourself; you can consult with a designer who will suggest several ready-made options or develop a special project for you), it’s time to take measurements and calculate the cost of the furniture set.

Cabinet measurements

We have developed a table of optimal dimensions for the length, width and depth of a wardrobe for a bedroom. These are only recommended values, the limits of which should be taken as a starting point. Of course, when developing the layout of the future cabinet, you will also rely on the parameters of the place where it will be installed. So,

Parameters that determine the cost of the project

The cost of a sliding wardrobe, of course, will depend on the materials, dimensions, internal contents and the number of sliding doors. The most expensive sliding wardrobes are made of natural wood; a frame made of PVC and MDF will cost less.

You shouldn’t skimp on sliding doors – they are the face of your closet and its most mobile part. Therefore, profiles must be aluminum; they are more durable and do not deform over time. This means that your cabinet will last a long time and retain its original appearance.

In many ways, the price also depends on the internal contents - shelves, hanging systems, pull-out baskets and drawers. Quality accessories don't come cheap. If, however, your budget is limited, it is better to save on the number of accessories, but not on their quality and not on the quality of their fastenings.

Assembling a wardrobe with your own hands

Someone, in order to save money, decides to install a wardrobe with their own hands, so you can save up to 10% of the wardrobe, but is this a justified risk?

We recommend that you save yourself from further operational problems and turn to professionals to install your wardrobe. Still, the experienced hands of a craftsman will assemble it better than inept ones. This means that unjustified savings will not lead to breakdowns and the need to reinstall or replace the cabinet in the future.

    THANK YOU so much for the very useful information in the article. Everything is presented very clearly. It feels like a lot of work has been done to analyze the operation of the eBay store

    • Thank you and other regular readers of my blog. Without you, I would not have been motivated enough to dedicate much time to maintaining this site. My brain is structured this way: I like to dig deep, systematize scattered data, try things that no one has done before or looked at from this angle. It’s a pity that our compatriots have no time for shopping on eBay because of the crisis in Russia. They buy from Aliexpress from China, since goods there are much cheaper (often at the expense of quality). But online auctions eBay, Amazon, ETSY will easily give the Chinese a head start in the range of branded items, vintage items, handmade items and various ethnic goods.

        What is valuable in your articles is your personal attitude and analysis of the topic. Don't give up this blog, I come here often. There should be a lot of us like that. Email me I recently received an email with an offer that they would teach me how to trade on Amazon and eBay. And I remembered your detailed articles about these trades. area I re-read everything again and concluded that the courses are a scam. I haven't bought anything on eBay yet. I am not from Russia, but from Kazakhstan (Almaty). But we also don’t need any extra expenses yet. I wish you good luck and stay safe in Asia.

  • It’s also nice that eBay’s attempts to Russify the interface for users from Russia and the CIS countries have begun to bear fruit. After all, the overwhelming majority of citizens of the countries of the former USSR do not have strong knowledge of foreign languages. No more than 5% of the population speak English. There are more among young people. Therefore, at least the interface is in Russian - this is a big help for online shopping on this trading platform. eBay did not follow the path of its Chinese counterpart Aliexpress, where a machine (very clumsy and incomprehensible, sometimes causing laughter) translation of product descriptions is performed. I hope that at a more advanced stage of development of artificial intelligence, high-quality machine translation from any language to any in a matter of seconds will become a reality. So far we have this (the profile of one of the sellers on eBay with a Russian interface, but an English description):
