Wanting to save money, they use a home-made air conditioner to cool the air. Homemade devices operate on the principle of lowering the temperature of any surface when water is converted into steam.

Installation of factory and homemade air conditioner

The design of such household appliance, as an air conditioner, is quite complex. The air cooling system operates by transferring heat from one zone to another: in the hot season - from the house to the street, and in the winter months - from the space outside the walls of the apartment inside it. A special substance is responsible for the circulation of warm air masses - freon, which, if necessary, boils and goes into a gaseous state, acquiring low temperature.

The design of the device is complex, because it consists of two blocks

The air temperature in the room and the pressure of freon, called refrigerant, are controlled by an electronic control unit, which begins to work after receiving signals from special sensors. Since the operation of an air conditioner is a complex process, making an air cooling system yourself is not easy.

Homemade air conditioners are distinguished by the fact that they come into operation as a result of blowing room air through cold objects. This object can be pieces of ice or cold-producing devices used to store food in bags during transport in the summer.

Warm air becomes cold when passed through ice

Making your own air conditioner

All coolers made independently are units of two parts:

  • a block that lowers the temperature of air masses;
  • an element that distributes a cooled environment throughout the apartment room.

Ice and draft

A self-assembled air conditioner may consist of plastic bottle, filled with frozen liquid, and a regular fan. Such a cooler environment It is customary to place it on a table next to a running fan.

Plastic bottles tied to the fan grill

If desired, the design of the air conditioner can be made more complex: use a wire basket suspended from the bars of the fan grille. A container of ice is placed in this container.

If possible, it doesn’t hurt to improve your homemade air conditioner to make it work better. This means abandoning the plastic bottle and using a “cold accumulator” - a container with a special liquid used in cooler bags. The performance of such an installation for changing the microclimate is determined by the size of the vessel with pieces of ice.

Ice buckets hold more ice, which means your air conditioner will run longer.

A homemade air conditioner that operates thanks to ice and draft will cool the air in the room much more effectively if you assemble the installation as follows:

  1. take a very large plastic vessel with a tight lid;
  2. make 2 holes in the lid of the container, and the diameter of the first should match the parameters of the fan grille, and the size of the second can be 5 or 10 cm;
  3. insert into the second slot and securely fasten the corner fitting by 5 or 10 cm, which will allow an “L” shaped outlet to be formed above the cover;
  4. immerse in the first hole and secure the fan well, using self-tapping screws immersed in the lid of the container;
  5. Fill a tightly sealed container with bottles of crushed ice, frozen liquid or a cold accumulator.

The fan of the device, made according to the instructions, will push warm air masses through the ice container and produce cold currents exiting the corner fitting. Since the body of the container is insulated from heat, the ice will not melt instantly, which means it will ensure the operation of the air conditioner for many hours.

Fan and cold water

Together with a fan, you can use not frozen, but simply chilled water to build an air conditioner, which will create a dynamic flow running through the copper radiator grille. In other words, the fan blades will draw air into the spiral of the copper tube, through which water from the water supply will flow, characterized by a stable temperature of 14–16 degrees Celsius. With this approach to designing an air conditioner, you will get an inexhaustible source of cold air.

Air is cooled thanks to continuous flow cold water and fan operation

But you will have to pay for the wasted water, so it is much more reasonable to make an air conditioner from a fan and cold water as follows:

  1. insert 2 hoses through the lid into the plastic barrel (one should be longer, the other shorter);
  2. next to the neck of the container, attach a compressor from the aquarium, equipped with a pipe that sucks in water and connected to a hose that runs from the lid to the bottom of the barrel;
  3. attach a fan to the lid of the vessel, the grille of which must be equipped with a spiral of copper tube;
  4. align one edge of the copper spiral with the compressor pipe, and the other with a short hose, which occupies only a quarter of the height of the barrel;
  5. attach to the end of a short hose check valve, which blocks the movement of liquid from the barrel to the hose.

After activating the compressor, such an air conditioner comes into working condition, since the cooling spiral attached to the fan grille is filled with cold water from the bottom of the container. The liquid is given a certain direction: after running in a spiral, it will merge into the upper zone, where it is relatively warm water. The result of this organization of the movement of the liquid medium is the flow of only cooled liquid to the fan blades.

From an old refrigerator

Trying to make an air conditioner from an unused refrigerator should only be done by men who are experienced in repair work. In this case, the design of an air cooler involves the use household appliances for freezing food, the components of which are a cooling radiator (freezer), refrigerant, compressor and condenser, which is a grille at the back of the refrigerator.

The parts responsible for cooling the air are located inside the chamber of the household appliance.

To assemble an air conditioner from parts of an old refrigerator, you need to do the following:

  1. remove the doors from the household appliance that block access to both chambers;
  2. Carefully, to avoid damaging the walls, insert into freezer fan powered by electricity;
  3. Using a drill, make several holes with a diameter of 1.5 cm in the lower area of the side walls of the refrigerator;
  4. place the refrigerator so that the rear grille is outside the room in which you want to make the air cool (you can place the household appliance in doorway, sealing the area between the body and the edges of the opening with polyethylene film).

If the previous point is not feasible, then you need to do this: open the refrigerant supply line and remove only the condenser outside the room, using copper pipes for this. True, this solution to the problem involves pouring a new portion of freon into the system.

From a portable refrigerator

When you decide to make an air conditioner from a portable refrigerator, in addition to the housing from a small household appliance, you must use 2 more items:

To make such an installation, you need to understand how to connect wires.

A homemade air cooler is constructed from a portable refrigerator in several stages:

  1. a radiator of a suitable size is installed in the “box” of the device;
  2. a submersible pump (taken from an aquarium or car washer) is attached to the bottom of the refrigerator body;
  3. the wires are led outside the chamber;
  4. a square-shaped hole is drilled in the lid of the refrigerator (from inside the body), and 2 round holes are made outside this area, which will be needed for ventilation;
  5. The radiator is fixed inside the chamber using silicone;
  6. the pump output and radiator inlet are connected;
  7. A hose is placed at the radiator outlet, which will help make the device operate more quietly.

The created air conditioner will cool the air by filling the refrigerator container with pieces of ice or cold water, which, under the pressure of the pump, will enter the radiator and, under the influence of the fan, form cold air currents.

From a car radiator

If you are planning to make a cooling device from a car radiator, you will need to prepare the following parts:

  • fan (from the car);
  • radiator (from the car);
  • computer power supply housing.

To assemble an air cooler from these elements, you need to perform certain tasks:

  1. mount on back wall the power supply housing has a radiator, and there is a fan on the front, which will allow the air flow to exit the radiator and be directed towards the fan;
  2. Attach handles to the created structure to make it convenient to move.

At first glance the device seems complicated

Since the power supply produces different voltages, the air conditioner can be turned on various modes supply of cooled air. To correct the work homemade device You just need to adjust the built-in speed switch.

The radiator used to create the air conditioner is distinguished by its plate appearance. Rubber hoses are placed on it and secured with clamps. Hollow tubes are needed to supply and discharge water. In this case, the liquid must flow from one place to another very quickly, for which the fan motor works at high speed, providing an instant decrease in the temperature in the room.

Other options

Air conditioning can be done using a car air purifier and a standard fan, but this method is difficult and expensive.

The instructions for creating this air cooler require:

  • connect the fan to the air purifier using a hose or pipe;
  • make a housing for the air conditioner parts using any available materials;
  • make a filter from a fine mesh mesh (fold it 4 times) and attach it to the lower area of the body;
  • Fill the air cleaner reservoir with water and connect the system to the electrical network.

The made device will function due to the fact that the fan moves air masses into an evaporation chamber, which contains water and cools the medium trapped in it. Outside the air conditioner, cool air will appear after passing through the holes in the mesh.

1 - body; 2 - wire mesh; 3 - air duct; 4 - holes for cooled air outlet; 5 - flange connection; 6 - fan with motor

You can also create a spray air conditioner with your own hands. The device is assembled from a large container filled with water and an air duct. To make this air conditioner work, you need to do the following:

  • insert a spray bottle into the evaporation chamber, the nozzle of which will allow you to regulate the intake of liquid from the tank;
  • link installation to ventilation system, promoting cooling of air masses.

Advantages and disadvantages of homemade air conditioners

The undoubted advantages of self-assembled air conditioners include:

  • real performance, because such installations really cool the air in the room;
  • the ability to assemble from scrap materials that did not require spending money.

The ice in the bucket gives off coldness, which spreads throughout the room under the influence of a fan.

But homemade air coolers also have a number of significant disadvantages:

  • operating time is limited by the amount of ice that has to be constantly replenished;
  • the inability of the installation to cool the air in all rooms at once, since while one room is blown with cold currents, a refrigerator is working in another, freezing ice and therefore heating the air;
  • significant energy consumption, which necessitates the need to replenish the supply of ice chips;
  • strong humidification of the air in the room, which is caused by its passage through cold water or ice.

The air in the room will not become humid, which means it will not cause the same harm to a person as heat, if instead of ice the air conditioner is loaded with cold accumulators. Still, they are not converted into water.

All of the homemade air coolers reviewed function without problems. They are a real salvation from the heat when the situation is hopeless. True, using a home-made air conditioner causes a lot of trouble.

Cooling down: DIY air conditioner

  • DIY or Do It Yourself

The article is even for those whose hands grow in the wrong place.

Preamble: I was away from the Capital of All Russia for 5 weeks. Upon my return, the heat greeted me in Pskov, and the smoke - in Tver. But in Moscow another surprise awaited me - a rush for fans and air conditioners. Attention! There are a lot of pictures and traffic under the cut.

There were no fans anywhere, nor any air conditioners. Even if you manage to find something, the markup will be x4 or more. And the queue for installing air conditioning exceeded 3 weeks of waiting.

Well, not a disgrace, you say? No, it's not disgraceful. Having thought about it, on the day of arrival it was simple I already had an air conditioner in my apartment..

However, you will have to work not only with your brains, but you will also need money. So if you, the reader, are a glamorous blonde, urgently look for the nearest geek to implement the gadget written in this article.

So, bad luck.

Given:

there is money, there are hands, there is a desire to get a fan or air conditioner, but there is no fan and air conditioner. What to do?

Solution.

If there is no fan, then one needs to be made. So. We go where “ordinary” people wouldn’t think to look for fans, but they are there. That's right - to the nearest auto parts store. Better than domestic ones 8-)

We unscrew the gander or filter from the water tap so that we can use it to select pipes in the store.

And we buy at the drive-thru:

1. Radiator. Anyone larger than Okovsky will do (for Oka). Ask for no unnecessary automation, otherwise you will have to hack. I bought a cooling radiator 21082-1301012, the price is about 1290 rubles.
2. Fan car radiator, powered by 12 volts, for VAZ, GAZ, AZLK, IZH, ZAZ and ZIL cars, power 110 watts. Price 1190 rub.
3. Frame for this fan (don’t forget about it!), 250 rub. (fan shroud)
4. Set of fastenings for the fan, bolts for the radiator (price is cheap)
5. Buy reinforced ones right there on the spot. rubber tubes, which can be cut to any length. You may need a large auto parts store. Select the length based on the planned location of the air conditioner and the source of cold water. The following characteristics suited my placement:
The tube to the radiator inlet and radiator outlet (the thickest) is a total of 1 m long. The tube from the tap to the radiator pipe and back is 3 m long (thinner).
6. Set of clamps(4 pcs.) for the diameter of the radiator tube. You can take a couple of clamps for a small tube (which will be put on the tap).
7. Regular blue electrical tape (10 rubles?)
8. The cheapest sealant (~50 rub.)
9. Connector for connecting power to the fan (15 rubles)
10. Any power unit at 12 volts ( D.C.), I took it from an old computer (AT form factor), 230 Watt. It is convenient because it is turned on with a toggle switch, and not through the motherboard.
11. Optional - you can take an electric heating pump from a gazelle and a set of pipes for it with small clamps (800 rub. + 300 rub.), if you want to save running water.
12. 6 hours personal focused time.

A small sheet of thick plywood, wooden slats, a wood saw, bolts, nuts, self-tapping screws, a drill and wood drill bits - all this was already on the farm and needed to make a radiator clamp. This is where you can get creative. As a last resort, whatever is at hand will do, as well as rope and tape.

Electrical tape is needed to adjust the radii, since the tube from (and to) the radiator is larger in diameter than the tube from the water tap.

Let's put it all together. We place the radiator horizontally, having previously plugged the hole for the temperature sensor with something. I plugged it with a self-tapping screw coated with sealant. When connecting the fan to the power supply, we change the polarity (we connect the minus to the plus, and vice versa) so that the fan changes the direction of rotation.

This device takes its coolness from tap water, excess water can be drained into the bathroom or washbasin. Gives cool air. The power is not high, so it is advisable to cover extra rooms, especially the kitchen. Usually there is a malicious heat generator in the apartment - a refrigerator. This also needs to be taken into account.

It actually made it possible to reduce indoor humidity and temperature by 3 degrees. For some reason the radiator works on 50% of its surface due to air jams haven't solved this problem yet.

If you also decide to use a computer power supply, then know that everything yellow wires- this is +12 volts, all black wires are (minus), or “ground”. The wires from the fan connection can simply be exposed, plugged into the power connector for the hard drive and wrapped with electrical tape. Sometimes the wires fall out, I also fixed them with a small nail. But for some reason it only worked for me from the red wires (5 volts), maybe the unit is not standard.

Here is a photo of the resulting monster:

Internals:

Connection of tubes of different diameters:

And here is the first satisfied user of this system:

There is not much noise. Disadvantages of the system - due to the inversion of the fan, its power has decreased, and deploying the structure is technically a pain in the ass. It also collects condensation; you can put a towel or basin under it. What can be improved? Make a case, invert the fan back and turn the air flow from it to %username%, get rid of air pockets in the radiator. And the wires are finally soldered normally.

I wish you, reader, to enjoy this summer exclusively at sea and on vacation  Feedback on improving the design and funny, non-constructive criticism are gladly accepted in the comments to this post.

UPD: If you repeat my feat, please send photos to mail dog netAn.ru or here in the comments.

UPD2: Water must be supplied to the radiator downwards and taken from above. There is also a faucet for "descent" air cushion. It works effectively only with maximum water flow - it lowers the temperature by 5 degrees! At the entrance 30.1, at the exit 24.9 Celsius. I tried to connect a pump to save water, but the power supply does not have enough power - I will select a more powerful power supply and report back. I sealed the side cracks of the fan frame with rubber tape to insulate the windows in winter, and the blowing became noticeably more efficient.

In this article we will talk about how to make an air conditioner with your own hands for your home or car. It is worth noting that homemade devices can be an alternative to any modern split systems. By using appliances that create a comfortable microclimate in your home, you can save a lot of money. Split systems are expensive and their installation is quite complicated.

And therefore, many home and car owners come up with a variety of installations that can effectively cool the air in the room. In this article we will consider all design options that are most suitable for use. They can be used in both homes and cars. In order to understand how difficult the task of making homemade air conditioner, you need to consider the principle of its operation. You will also have to identify the advantages and disadvantages of designs that are available for repetition.

Is it easy to make air conditioner?

Now let's decide whether it's easy to do home air conditioner on one's own. In order to maintain the room temperature at a certain level, it is necessary to carefully regulate the refrigerant pressure in the split system. To do this, an electronic control unit is installed, which receives signals from various sensors. It is worth noting that a car air conditioner works according to the same scheme. In it, the evaporator is installed in the interior heating system, and the condenser is mounted near the radiator, which is necessary for normal operation engine cooling.

As you understand, making a homemade air conditioner of this design at home is quite difficult. As for installation in cars, this is even more difficult to do. Of course, if you have skills in working with refrigeration equipment, you can carry out all the manipulations quite quickly and install the air conditioner in your car or house yourself. There are many designs that anyone can replicate with minimal skills and using standard tools.

Design of a simple air conditioner

This is very simple design, in which a cold source must be installed inside a closed box. Let's look at how to make air conditioning at home. An axial type fan should be installed in one side wall of the box. WITH reverse side, opposite the fan, you need to make a hole through which the cooled air will exit. And now about what this type of air conditioner can be made from:

  • Old car refrigerators with walls insulated with polystyrene foam or penoplex.
  • Boxes made of plastic or cardboard.
  • Plastic cans.
  • Bottles 5 liters or larger.

You can use any small fans to supply air inside the box. Coolers that are used in computer technology.

Such a small air conditioner can be useful for cooling the car interior. You just need to connect the cooler correctly so that the blades rotate in in the right direction. It is also recommended to use special ice generators that are capable of releasing coolness. for a long time.

Pros and cons of the design

This design has both disadvantages and advantages. Firstly, one of the advantages is that the design is very simple. Secondly, it can be made from any materials, so the cost will be extremely low. Thirdly, such an air conditioner can really cool small space. But there are also disadvantages that outweigh all the advantages:

  1. At very high temperature no amount of ice is enough for the normal operation of such an air conditioner. If you plan to cool one room, the one in which the ice is made will warm up due to the operation of the refrigerators. Consequently, consumption will increase electrical energy.
  2. If you use the unit in a car, its operating time will depend on how much ice you take with you.
  3. The disadvantage is that the air will become humidified as it passes through the ice. In other words, after a certain period of time the air in the room will become oversaturated with moisture, which will make it much worse than the heat.

Of course, if you use cold accumulators, the air will not be humidified.

Assembly of the structure

Now let's look at how to make a homemade air conditioner for your home or car. In order to make the design, you will need to perform simple manipulations:

  1. Find a container that closes as tightly as possible. It is necessary to cut a hole in one side wall that will correspond to the diameter of the fan.
  2. Then you need to screw the cooler using self-tapping screws to the case.
  3. Now make another hole, it should be located opposite the first one. It is recommended to use a small piece of pipe for greater convenience.
  4. Many users of such devices claim that it is most convenient to use sealed boxes, the lid of which can be easily removed. Food containers are ideal. They are very convenient for loading ice or cold storage batteries.
  5. Now you need to install the air conditioner and connect it to the power source. As for use in cars, you need to install it in convenient location, and connect the cooler to the cigarette lighter.

Liquid installation

This design is effective and easy to manufacture. A heat exchanger and a fan are installed in the room. Cold water passes through this heat exchanger, the fan blows it, and the temperature in the room decreases. A borehole or well can be used as a source of water. As for the heat exchanger, a radiator from any car or a deteriorating air conditioner is ideal. It is worth noting that this design can not only cool the air in the room, but also heat it. To do this, just apply it to the radiator hot water.

It consists of three components:

  1. Submersible or well pump.
  2. Heat exchanger with fan.
  3. Insulated pipelines for supplying and discharging liquid.

How to make a liquid air conditioner

Now let's look at how to assemble the system yourself. To do this you need to perform the following manipulations:

  1. Place a car radiator in a convenient place in the room and install a fan.
  2. Install return and fall lines. In order to connect them to the pipes, it is necessary to use adapters and clamps.
  3. Install a pump in a well or well, connect pipes to it that will supply water to the radiator.
  4. It is recommended to wrap the section of the pipe through which cold water is supplied. insulation material. This will prevent the liquid from heating up ahead of time. As for the return line, there is no need to isolate it.

Where should I put the water?

Decide right away where you will put the water after it passes through the radiator. It should also be noted that very often the fluid supply rate is much higher than necessary.

As for the problem of liquid discharge, it can be solved in the following ways:

  1. Collect liquid in any storage container (if you are watering personal plot water).
  2. Pour water into a nearby well.
  3. Organize closed loop circulation with a second radiator, which is immersed in the bottom of the well.

Performance adjustment

As for the pump performance, it cannot be adjusted without using frequency converters. The purchase of such a device will affect the cost of structures. Various kinds autotransformers will not help solve the problem.

In order not to purchase expensive equipment, you can solve the problem in the following ways:

  1. If the well is less than 10 m deep, it is allowed to use circulation pump, used in heating systems. You just need to choose required power.
  2. If desired, you can limit the flow of water to the radiator using a type. It will dump excess water back into the well.

Advantages and disadvantages of the system

It is worth highlighting several advantages that the design of such an air conditioner has:

  1. Using the system, you can both cool the room and warm it up.
  2. The design is much simpler when compared with a split system.
  3. Even if you buy pipes and a pump, the total costs of assembling the structure will not be very high.

We have already partially talked about the shortcomings. These include difficulties in regulating water supply and discharge. This system cannot be used in apartments, since you are unlikely to find a similar source of cold water. Of course, this type of system cannot be installed in a car either.

Refrigerator as a basis

The idea is very interesting, because there are no differences from the split system in the design of the refrigerator. A refrigerant is also used, which heats up on one side and takes away heat on the other. Few people have tried to make a standing structure out of refrigerators. But you can think a little and imagine how to make an air conditioner from a refrigerator:

  1. First you need to cut out two heat exchangers; the compressor cannot be turned off. Otherwise, the freon will leave the system and you will have to spend money on refilling.
  2. Next, you need to move the condenser and compressor outside the room that you plan to cool.
  3. The part that was previously a freezer needs to be mounted in the room.
  4. To make cooling much faster, install a fan that will blow on the heat exchanger. You can install a homemade compressor to increase power. From the air conditioning compressor truck you can make a good design that will allow you to cool large area.
  5. Of course, you won’t need a standard control unit and sensor that are set to a certain temperature. Therefore, you will have to install a temperature regulator. Otherwise, the compressor will simply break down, since it is not able to operate uninterruptedly for a long time.

Is there enough power?

It is worth noting that refrigerators maximum power about 400 W. Even with a rough calculation, you can understand that this power will be enough for a maximum of 4 square meters.

Moreover, this is only in theory, but implementing everything in practice will be much more difficult, since the area that such a structure can cool is even smaller. Of course, a homemade refrigerator air conditioner can cool small room, for example, a closet. And in the summer you can store homemade preparations in it. But you will have to make high-quality thermal insulation.

Air conditioners help to withstand the heat well, but if there is no way to purchase them, and installation is impossible for reasons beyond your control, they can save you simple options air conditioners that anyone can assemble with their own hands. Their operating principle is elementary and is based on the use of fans.

        What is valuable in your articles is your personal attitude and analysis of the topic. Don't give up this blog, I come here often. There should be a lot of us like that. Email me I recently received an email with an offer that they would teach me how to trade on Amazon and eBay. And I remembered your detailed articles about these trades. area I re-read everything again and concluded that the courses are a scam. I haven't bought anything on eBay yet. I am not from Russia, but from Kazakhstan (Almaty). But we also don’t need any extra expenses yet. I wish you good luck and stay safe in Asia.

  • It’s also nice that eBay’s attempts to Russify the interface for users from Russia and the CIS countries have begun to bear fruit. After all, the overwhelming majority of citizens of the countries of the former USSR do not have strong knowledge of foreign languages. No more than 5% of the population speak English. There are more among young people. Therefore, at least the interface is in Russian - this is a big help for online shopping on this trading platform. eBay did not follow the path of its Chinese counterpart Aliexpress, where a machine (very clumsy and incomprehensible, sometimes causing laughter) translation of product descriptions is performed. I hope that at a more advanced stage of development of artificial intelligence, high-quality machine translation from any language to any in a matter of seconds will become a reality. So far we have this (the profile of one of the sellers on eBay with a Russian interface, but an English description):
