You can also finish it using ceramic tiles. But you will need to first cover the frame with moisture-resistant plasterboard. But, first things first: so, the first finishing option.

Method number 1: covering the screen with plastic

First of all you need to cut plastic panels to the size of the prepared frame. If they are short in length, then you can mount them vertically in 2 pieces. You can adjust them to the required dimensions using assembly knife. But be sure to make preliminary markings on them to prevent the occurrence of a crooked cut. Then you need to start fixing them with plastic screws. But don’t forget to leave room for the hatch while doing this. Measure its parameters and make a mark on the frame. It will need to be subsequently installed to such a depth that it is in the same plane as the screen. The hatch is fixed to a metal frame. It will need to be secured with self-tapping screws. Then you will need to install the hatch itself and secure its door first with wedges. Then you take metal screws, and use them to fasten it with your own hands through the frame to the frame of the screen.

Method number 2: finishing with tiles

If you decide to make a screen in the bathroom from ceramic tiles, then the course of work will be slightly different. First of all, it will be necessary to install the hatch according to the scheme described above. Then drywall is mounted on the frame. It must be highly moisture resistant. This material is fixed using self-tapping screws. It is necessary to screw in these fasteners at right angles; this is done using a screwdriver.

At the next stage, you can begin installing the tiles. Here you should use special glue. It is easy to use and allows finishing without any hassle. Apply the adhesive to the ceramic tiles using a spatula. You should use it to create an even layer. Then the finishing material is glued to the drywall. When the installation of the tiles is completely completed, you will need to grout the joints.

In order to hide all communications, pipes and drains that are located under the bathroom, a special screen is installed. It mainly carries an aesthetic load so that the appearance of the lower part of the bathtub does not spoil the design of the bathroom. Some modern baths already supplied with screens that perfectly match it in appearance and functionality, but not all of them. In order not to spend money on buying a ready-made and not very cheap screen, you can think about how to make a screen for a bathtub with your own hands. This not only allows you to significantly save money, but also install a screen that will fully suit the tastes and preferences of the owners; in addition, you can equip the screen with several useful functions.

What to make a bath screen from?

Exists great amount building materials that can be used in the damp bathroom environment. So we can distinguish the following options, based mainly on the material that will form the base of the screen:

  1. Laying a brick screen;
  2. Sheathing with moisture-resistant plasterboard followed by finishing with any suitable material (tiles, plaster, wallpaper, etc.)
  3. Sheathing with moisture-resistant MDF, OSB with subsequent finishing;
  4. Plastic sheathing.
  5. Purchasing a ready-made screen or a set of sliding doors.

In addition to the store-bought solution, only plastic sheathing actually allows you to form a screen without the need for further finishing. This material is quite acceptable and practical, not affected by moisture and biologically neutral. Easy to clean and durable enough even if one or more strips are damaged plastic sheathing it is easy to replace. Still, for a durable design or if plastic simply does not fit into the interior of the bathtub, you should choose one of the remaining three options.

In any case, the screen for the bathtub, no matter what it is assembled from, must meet several requirements:

  • To access the main sewerage units and laid communications, there must be a technological opening that can be closed with a door or plug;
  • It is advisable to seal the space near the floor to separate the floor under the bathtub from the rest of the bathroom;
  • The screen is not a supporting structure and the bath should not rest on it.

For convenience, a small recess is formed in the screen, most often with a slope so that it does not interfere with the legs. Some craftsmen, if there is free space under the bathtub or on the side of it, install an additional cabinet or drawer as part of the screen for household chemicals or detergents.

Laying a brick screen

In this version everything is simple. Along the border of the bathtub or from wall to wall near which the bathtub stands, a brick wall half a brick thick is erected. Mandatory, as during construction regular wall, the brick is altered, that is, each next row is shifted by half a brick. A window is formed in a place convenient for access to the bathtub drain. In order to cover it, it is enough to buy or make a door and attach it to the awnings.

Even though the brick wall is quite strong, you still shouldn’t rest the bathtub on it, so between last row brick and the edge of the bath there should be a gap of about 1-2 cm, which is blown polyurethane foam. After this, you can cover the brickwork with ceramic tiles or any other suitable material that will match the design of the room.

If you liked this option, but you don’t know how to lay brick, read about the basics of working with it.

Sheathing with plasterboard

The most flexible method in terms of forming the shape of the screen. Everything depends only on the desire of the owner. Installing a screen under a bathtub begins with forming a frame. For this you can use either a metal profile or a 40x40 mm wooden beam. The tree must also be protected from moisture, otherwise rot and fungus will inevitably appear.

When installing the frame, it is taken into account that the facing material will also be sheathed on top of the drywall. So along the wall to which the side of the bathtub adjoins, a line for installing the edge of the profile is marked so that it is recessed from the edge of the bathtub by the thickness of the subsequent cladding. For example, if you plan to cover the screen with tiles, then an indentation of 12.6 mm + 5 mm + 4-6 mm (tile thickness) = 21.6-23.6 mm is made. The line must be continued along the floor along the entire length over which the screen will extend. In this case, a plumb line is used to adjust relative to the edge of the bath.

A UD profile is fixed along the perimeter of the resulting line. The profile that is attached to the floor should additionally be glued with sealant to prevent water from getting under and from under the bathtub. Next, the CD profile is installed vertically and secured to the supporting profile. The distance between the profiles is maintained at 600 mm, and additional racks are installed in the place where there will be a technological hole or recess for installing a drawer or cabinet.

A ledge for feet can be formed in the center of the bathtub. To do this, the profile on the floor is not installed in a straight line, but in the shape of the letter U with a recess for the bathtub of about 10-15 cm. The racks in the niche will be installed at an angle.

Example of a tiled plasterboard screen with a lip

Moisture-resistant green plasterboard is used for cladding. It is cut to the appropriate length, equal to the height of the screen minus 2 cm. Fastening is done with hardened black screws every 15 cm around the perimeter of the sheet and in the center along the profile. It is important to choose correct length self-tapping screws so as not to accidentally screw the top screws into the acrylic bathtub. The sheets are attached with 1 cm indentations from the floor and the edge of the bathtub. This is necessary to prevent swelling of the drywall. After all, even though it is moisture resistant, it will still begin to deteriorate from direct contact with water.

When the sheathing is completed, the drywall is primed and sheathed with any suitable material, such as ceramic tiles, decorative plaster, moisture-resistant wet wallpaper, film materials, etc.

Sheathing: MDF, OSB

The entire process is virtually identical to drywall sheathing. The only difference is that additional ventilation slots should be made in the screen on the opposite side of the technological hole. To do this, it is enough to make a slot only 2-3 cm wide and 5-10 cm long, which can be covered with a neat plastic grill. MDF sheets must be primed on both sides before being fixed to the frame.

Screen made of plastic lining

The simplest option would be to line the bathtub with plastic lining. This option immediately produces a beautiful finished surface and does not require additional processing or plating. If necessary, the screen can be easily disassembled to gain full access to the space under the bath.

In addition to the lining itself, you will also need a starting profile, which is strengthened along the perimeter of the future screen. From the top, under the edge of the bathtub, a beam or metal profile is first secured to the walls, and then a plastic starting profile. For the reliability and strength of the entire structure, it is also advisable to secure the profiles in the middle of the screen. This is especially important when using cheap options for plastic lining, which can become deformed and lose shape even under small mechanical loads. The lower profile, as in the previously described options, should preferably be glued to the floor using sealant.

Strips of plastic are cut using a regular construction knife and the edges are inserted into the starting profile. This way the entire surface of the screen is covered. At the site where the technological hole is formed, a rectangle is cut and a special plastic door is inserted, which are sold in the same places as the lining itself.

Since there is an unimaginable variety of plastic lining on sale, color design, pattern and even texture, then choosing a suitable option will not be difficult.

Sliding version of the plastic screen for the bathroom

As for the sliding screen for the bathroom, its creation requires either imagination or a ready-made installation kit from any hardware store. If you don’t have the second one, we recommend looking for ways to implement craftsmen. One of the options is in the video below.

In conclusion

As can be seen from the presented options, only the use of plastic allows you to assemble a bath screen, which can be quickly dismantled and put back together if necessary. However, other methods allow you to use significantly large quantity facing materials so that the screen does not stand out against the background of the overall interior design, especially when it contains no plastic whatsoever.

In any case, although installing a bath screen with your own hands will take a little longer than installing a ready-made purchased one, the result will be much more acceptable for maintaining a holistic picture of the interior. In addition, a hand-assembled screen will cost less and will be more reliable than most ready-made ones that are offered for an installed bathtub.

A bathtub screen is a structure installed between the edge of the bathtub and the floor, covering the plumbing communications. It carries more of an aesthetic load so that the appearance of the side edge of the bathtub does not fall out of the integrity of the bathroom design.

Types of screens

There are three main types of bathroom screens:

  • Sliding;
  • Fixed, removable;
  • Stationary.

Let's look at each in more detail.

Sliding screens

They are the most functional and convenient. The frame of this design consists of a fixed base and guides along which the doors move. Thanks to ease of access, various household items can be stored under the bathtub. Among the disadvantages of a sliding screen, it is worth noting the discrepancy between quality and price - given the high cost, their design is quite flimsy. They are mounted by wedging between the bottom surface of the bathtub and the floor, which is not very reliable, so they often have to be reinstalled.

Fixed removable screens

Fixed removable screen

This type of screen is usually used in combination with acrylic bathtubs. Its main advantage is its presentable appearance and the ability to manufacture molds of any complexity. Plastic screens under the bathtub are quite difficult to remove, so you can only store absolutely unnecessary things behind them.

Stationary screens

Stationary screens are not available as finished products; they are manufactured individually for each case. They can be divided into two types:

  • With full access to the space under the bath;
  • With partial access - only for maintenance of communications.

Doors for fixed screens come in a variety of designs:

  • Sliding;
  • Swinging open;
  • Reclining;
  • In the form of a hatch;
  • In the form of an accordion;
  • Other non-standard solutions.

Materials for making the screen

Various materials can be used to construct the screen:

  • Metal;
  • Drywall, fiberboard, MDF, OSB;
  • Glass;
  • Plastic;
  • Brick;
  • Combinations of these materials.

Basic requirements for bathroom screen material:

  • Moisture resistance;
  • Practicality;
  • Durability;
  • Ease of operation;
  • Resistance to fungi and mold.

Installation of a screen under a plasterboard bathtub

Important! Before constructing a screen under the bathtub, you should carefully inspect the condition of the plumbing communications and, if necessary, put them in order.

To build a screen under the bathtub you will need the following set of tools:

  • Drill;
  • Hand saw;
  • Jigsaw;
  • Square, ruler and pencil;
  • Plumb;
  • Level;
  • Metal corners;
  • Screws and dowels;
  • Bars 40x40 mm.

The screen frame is made of wooden blocks with a cross-section of 40x40 millimeters. They are installed along the edges of the bathtub and mounted to the walls and floor.

To make the frame, you can use a metal profile.

Installation of the frame can be divided into two stages:
  • Preparatory work;
  • Fastening.

There are several ways to install a bathtub, but the most common is a corner one. It saves space and will be suitable for any layout.

  1. Using a plumb line, draw vertical lines on the walls that the bathtub touches. Don't make any effort, they will have to be erased.
  2. Draw lines parallel to them inside the contour of the bath, at a distance of 25 mm.
  3. Now the first lines drawn can be erased.
  4. Mark the corner point of the bathtub on the floor; to do this, use a plumb line installed on the corner of the bathtub that is not adjacent to the walls.
  5. Draw a square with a 25 mm edge, so that the point is its corner, and the figure itself is located inside the contour of the bathtub. This indentation is the necessary margin for installing the screen and its cladding.
  6. From the corner of the square located inside the contour of the bathtub, draw lines to the verticals drawn on the walls.
  7. Prepare wooden blocks according to the following parameters:
    • For vertical elements: bars whose length is equal to the height from the side to the floor - 4 pcs.
    • For horizontal elements:
      • Bars 80 mm long shorter than the width of the bath – 2 pcs.;
      • Bars 120 mm long shorter than the length of the bath – 2 pcs.

Fastening the wooden frame

After preparing the building material and carrying out marking work, you can begin installing the screen frame under the bathtub.

First, let's install the smaller side of the screen:

  • Using a corner of four bars, assemble a short frame;
  • Drill 2 holes in the frame to attach it to the wall;
  • Make similar holes in the wall;
  • Secure the frame to the wall using dowel joints that match the material from which it is made (hollow wall, monolithic wall, block wall or brick).

To make the structure more rigid, it is better to additionally screw the frame to the floor.

Installation of the other side is carried out in a similar way. Both frames should be fastened with screws.

Screen

To make the screen you will need two 16mm chipboard panels or a sheet of moisture-resistant plasterboard, the smaller panel of which corresponds to the size of the short frame.

Similar to the installation of the frame, the installation of the screen is carried out in two stages:

  • Preparatory work;
  • Consolidation.

Preparatory work for installing the screen

The space under the bathroom is rarely pleasing to the eye, because this is where communication pipes, washing powders and other chemicals are located. And to organize this corner of the room, they use a bath screen - a kind of screen that covers the front part and sides all the way to the floor. But in addition to the aesthetic aspect, such a device can also perform a protective function, protecting the bathtub from accidentally tipping over, or become an additional place for storing various small items. Modern plumbing is sold with ready-made screens, but if you were unable to buy a kit or want to upgrade your old model– it is quite possible to do it yourself.

What kind of bath screen can there be: types of models

For each bathtub, you can choose the most suitable design, taking into account the size of the free space and the geometry of the model itself. It is also important to understand whether you will only cover or use the space under the bathroom for storage (in the second case, and from which side to make access).

Based on the type of construction, there are several types:

1. Deaf - the simplest version of a homemade screen. The bathtub is laid with brick or plasterboard, and the top is decorated with tiles or mosaics. As a result, the structure looks solid and blends very effectively with the finish of the floor or walls, but the area under the bathroom remains unused. If you decide to install a blind screen under the bathroom, be sure to provide a small door for access to communications, otherwise in case of an emergency you will have to dismantle the structure.

2. Hinged - a modified version of a blind screen, which provides 1-2 niches for access to communications and storage household chemicals. The doors can be removable or mounted on hinges (the latter, of course, are more convenient).

3. Folding - the screen is equipped with doors on hinges and magnets or latches, which fold to one side. And if you complement the model with small shelves and gas lifts, you can conveniently place all kinds of shampoos, gels and cosmetics for hygiene procedures.

4. Sliding – ergonomic design, popular for small spaces. The doors of such a screen move on runners according to the “compartment” principle, opening access to the desired niche.

The screen can also be equipped with additional amenities, for example, a recess for feet, open shelves, drawers, step, etc.

Materials for screens: types and requirements

You can make a bath screen with your own hands from almost any building materials, the size of which can be adjusted to the parameters of the niche. Of course, the choice largely depends on the type of structure, but the basic requirements for materials are obvious: resistance to water and temperature changes, ease of cleaning and installation.

Therefore, the most popular for making screens are:
1. Moisture-resistant drywall– easy to use, but requires additional cladding, for example, mosaic.

2. OSB, plywood - require mandatory impregnation with antiseptics and protective coating from varnish, paint, PVC film or tiles. From wooden materials you can find ready-made versions of MDF screens

3. Plastic is a lightweight material, the most popular for the manufacture of sliding screens, with a lot of decorative solutions.

4. Brick - gives stability to the structure, but can create additional load on the ceiling. However, this The best decision for installing and supporting lightweight acrylic bathtubs that can bend under heavy weight.

5. Acrylic - durable, smooth and impressive panels that come with ready-made bathtubs, but for the standard model you can buy them separately and install them yourself.

Let's take a closer look at several ways to make bath partitions from various materials.

DIY bath screen made of brick or aerated concrete

Masonry, which can be done even with ½ or 1/4 brick, will help close the space under the bathroom with a strong partition. To make the markings correctly, it is important to take into account not only the thickness of the wall itself, but also to make an allowance for the decorative cladding. If it is ceramic tiles, lining or mosaic, feel free to add 2-2.5 cm taking into account the glue.

Work algorithm:
1. Designate a place for masonry. To do this, lower the plumb line from the edge of the bathtub and beat off horizontal line. From this guideline we subtract the thickness of the adhesive and tiles or other cladding material. For the screen to look impressive, it should be flush with the sides of the bathtub, but if the font has a rounded decorative edge, it is better to recess the partition a little deeper - this way there will be no problem with sealing the seams. According to the markings, we lay the first row of bricks, fastening them together with cement mortar. The second row is performed with each stone offset by ½.

2. If you need to make an open niche for the feet, an opening of 2-3 bricks is left in the middle of the first 2-3 rows of masonry. But before you build such a niche, think about whether it is really necessary? Moisture will constantly penetrate through the hole, and dampness will come from there, and such conveniences are unlikely to be vital today, when almost every home has a washing machine. As a last resort, make the hole blind by covering the back wall of the recess with the same brick.

3. But where exactly the opening is needed is opposite the siphon, in order to provide access to the plumbing if necessary. This hole can be closed with a small hinged door or a sheet of plywood decorated to resemble the lining of the bathtub.

4. The top row should be laid so that there is a gap of 2-3 cm between the masonry and the side of the bathtub. If necessary, the bricks are trimmed with a grinder, and the remaining gap is filled with foam. Then the seams are rubbed, excess foam is trimmed, and the surface of the screen is primed and covered with a decorative layer of tiles, mosaics or other finishing material.

How to make a bathtub screen with your own hands from plastic panels or plasterboard

Using plasterboard or plastic sheathing, you can make either a solid structure or a sliding or folding panel under the bathroom. They are mounted in the same way - on the frame. But sliding and folding models are additionally equipped with appropriate fittings. It should be taken into account that such a screen will perform mainly a decorative function; its support will be practically zero.

To work you will need:
Plastic panels or moisture-resistant drywall.
Metal profile or wooden beams, impregnated with antiseptic.
Dowels, self-tapping screws.
Liquid Nails.
Tools: knife, screwdriver, level, hammer drill, construction stapler.

Work algorithm:
1. Markings are made for the frame using a level/plumb line. A starting point– the top side of the bathtub, from which guide lines are drawn on the floor and adjacent walls (of course, taking into account the thickness of the frame and cladding materials).

2. Then fragments of the required length are cut out from the beams or profile and attached to the floor according to the markings. Self-tapping screws and glue are used for wood; the profile is mounted using specialized fasteners. Vertical supports are installed every 50-60 cm. The upper part of the frame is fixed to the walls with dowels, and to the side of the bathtub - with liquid nails.

3. Now you can sheathe the screen itself under the bathroom by cutting out panels or sheets of drywall to the required size. Plastic is attached with liquid nails, drywall - both with glue and with screws/screws.

Please note that the plastic itself is finishing, but the drywall needs to be sanded at the seams and decorated with tiles or other moisture-resistant material. You can also build a sliding screen from the panels if you install guides at the top and bottom of the frame along which the door will “ride.”

But if you are not good at construction and are looking for an easy-to-execute option on how to make a screen for a bathtub with your own hands, you can simply stretch a thick fishing line along the side and beautifully drape the niche and all its contents with waterproof fabric.

  • Installation acrylic bathtub– this is not the most difficult plumbing operation, but it also has its own nuances. If you purchased a branded product...
  • The screen serves as a screen for communications connected to the bathroom. The legs of a bathtub installed on linings, drains, sewer outlets, and pipes are perfectly hidden under it. But in addition to functions related to the aesthetics of space, the screen can also perform other useful work. For example, serve as a support for the stability of the bath or be a cabinet for small items.

    Acrylic bathtubs and other representatives of the latest generation of plumbing fixtures are often immediately equipped with a screen, ideal for hiding dark corners and communications. But what to do if the bathtub is old, and you don’t want to see its shabby sides every day? You can purchase a ready-made screen, and if you don’t want to spend money on a store-bought version or you need the screen under the bathtub to 100 percent meet your requirements, you can make a screen under the bathtub yourself. Here are several ways to create a screen.

    The screen providing access under the bathroom is made with sliding doors or with a built-in cabinet for household chemicals; may have vertically or horizontally opening cavities. Vertical structures It is advisable to arrange the openings according to the principle of blinds or equip them with gas lifts and other fasteners that are well known to furniture makers.

    Requirements for a bath screen

    Materials for the bath screen

    The materials that you will use in the bathroom should not be afraid of water, moisture, or temperature changes. It is also important that they are not susceptible to rapid destruction from mold or mildew.

    You can make the base of the screen from almost any building material, and then decorate the outside to your liking. Plastic panels or tiles are used for cladding.

    Homemade screen options:

    The fastest way to do this is to cover the frame under the bathtub with MDF panels. Strips of plastic or MDF are biologically neutral and practical. These materials are easy to cut and fasten together.

    After construction, the brick base will need to be sheathed and plastered or tiles glued to it. And before installing a wooden frame, the wood must be coated with a special impregnation to protect it from moisture.

    Each shower has its own individual qualities, special appearance, and convenience. To create the interior design of a room, various practical requirements must be taken into account. First of all, this is due to the unsightly outlines of water pipes and other communications. with your own hands will help you get rid of this problem forever.

    This barrier allows you to hide the unsightly appearance of the basement space. In addition, the sliding screen is a real element of the overall design of the shower room, so its decorative functions are highly valued. Today there are quite a lot of variations of products that are created from a variety of materials. Taking into account the varied design options, the room can be transformed beyond recognition.

    What are screens for?

    Sliding models allow you to make the most of the usable space in the shower room. Regular panels or doors are not very convenient to use, as they take up quite a lot of space. In order to make a bathtub screen with your own hands, you need to purchase a regular bathtub with attractive supports. The sides of the product must be finished with a special material, which allows the bathhouse to have a presentable appearance.

    Based on the location of communications in the shower room, it is necessary to select one or another screen model, product profile, as well as the size of the panels. Otherwise, there is a possibility that the selected frame will not fit. Water pipes are always unpleasantly conspicuous, so the structure should be assembled only after careful measurements. Otherwise it might ruin overall design

    However, there is another way out - buy a standard fence and do the covering of the panels yourself. Usually, when purchasing acrylic products, the installation of plumbing fixtures is carried out with ready-made doors. They allow you to close the basement while saving space, i.e. rational use, which eliminates the appearance of large voids, unlike cast iron or steel products.

    In addition, there is another good reason - the possibility of using this space for household needs. Often these niches store household items, cleaning products or tools. Here you can make wooden or plastic shelves for comfort.

    Separately, it is worth noting that basement doors help get rid of the accumulation of dirt and dust in hard to reach places where microorganisms or insects usually develop.

    Thus, the panels help get rid of various negative consequences caused by unsanitary conditions. The undeniable advantages of these products include their attractive appearance, carefully designed by the designers. Modern technologies make it possible not only to install sliding doors under the bathroom, but also to decorate them in a stylish, colorful and unique way. This gives the shower its own personality, which distinguishes it from other rooms in the apartment.

    What will you need?

    How to make a screen for a bathtub, or rather, from what materials? To manufacture sliding panels, you will need a supporting structure in the form of a profile, as well as the main raw materials from which the composition will be created. In order to decide on the choice of material, you need to proceed from the operating conditions of the bathroom, as well as personal preferences. You can carefully think through the image, starting from the tools available.

    • MDF panels;
    • drywall;
    • plastic;
    • ceramics;
    • acrylic.

    Separately, it is worth noting that sometimes it is allowed wooden elements, but they must be moisture resistant, for example, beech or bog oak. In addition, you should decide on the type of valves, i.e. the design itself. Screens come with sliding elements, with only one door, tightly closed, and also with a special niche for feet. All these parameters are very individual and suitable for different shower rooms and directly depend on the taste of the owner or his financial capabilities.

    DIY installation. Plastic

    In order to create a full-fledged screen, you need to purchase some tools. Usually they come with the necessary equipment and related materials. This will allow you to do all the work not only quickly, but also efficiently during self-installation. Devices should be selected based on the material itself, for example, for wood, you will need a saw or jigsaw, and for ceramic tiles, a glass cutter.

    For plastic panels you need:

    • Wooden blocks to create a structure or supports.
    • Liquid nails for fastening various materials.
    • Lightweight UD profiles with their own fastenings.
    • Directly plastic blanks.

    It is worth discussing some points separately, since often the bathrooms in most apartments have a combined appearance. This means that there is a need to take into account the sewerage design, i.e. toilet. The placed toilet represents an obstacle that must be carefully avoided when installing the screen and its subsequent use. Standard kit installation tools are:

    1. construction stapler;
    2. perforator;
    3. specialized knife for drywall;
    4. screwdriver;
    5. square

    In order to install a screen that will follow all the contours of the bath, you need to measure a line or put markings that follow all the curves of the bath. Then, using screws, the profile made of metal or wooden blocks is attached to the floor covering. The fastening is made from the inner edge, i.e. the place where the plastic panels will be installed. Using liquid nails, the bathroom itself and the surrounding surface are not damaged. Wood blocks secured with self-tapping screws will ideal option for cladding with the selected material.

    Plastic strips are attached to the blocks, again using liquid nails. From below, a piece of plastic is attached to the top of the profile, since enough space should be left for the plastic plinth. Self-tapping screws designed for hardware. In this case, it is necessary to pay attention to the final stage.

    This is due to the fact that attaching the last strip is very difficult, since you need to have a certain skill. You should try to align the first and final parts, and then put them on the side panel. At the same time, the resulting structure must have sufficient tightness between the parts. This is checked by checking the shrinkage of the grooves.

    Tile

    A DIY bath screen can be assembled from various materials. One of these is tiles, which are used to decorate sliding panels. She has visual attractiveness and high performance qualities. In addition, tiles are very common, and in stores they have a wide range, so there should not be any problems with choosing colors or textures.

    To install it you will need:

    • special metal corners;
    • door hinges;
    • moisture-resistant drywall;
    • various fastening parts;
    • tile;
    • wood bars or metal profiles.

    Decoration with ceramic products takes place using proven technology. To begin with, a strong frame is assembled as the basis for the entire future structure. For this, wood or metal is usually used; of course, the latter option is better. After which the resulting blank is sheathed with plasterboard panels. A tile is applied to this base, which will be the front side of the screen.

    Drywall

    To install a plasterboard structure, you will need identical materials and equipment as for tiles. This is explained by the similarity of the process, since they are almost identical and are an integral part of each other. The surface of the shower screen itself can be covered with vinyl wallpaper, decorative plaster applied or tiled.

    In any case, the resulting fence will have an attractive appearance.

    Textile One of the most exclusive and rare options is a fabric partition. It is great for a non-standard way to isolate a basement room, however, the practicality of the screen is somewhat lost. This is due, first of all, to increased care of the coating, since little fabric is required more attention

    than other materials. You can cover the panels yourself using improvised means.

    For this option, the following types of matter are used:

    For a fabric screen, it is best to prepare a metal frame or wood profiles. On the one hand, these decisions look quite strange, however, they have a practical justification. In addition, the fabric can be combined with various finishing materials or used as curtains. In the form of panels, fabric raw materials are rarely used and are used more as an addition.

    Acrylic Bathroom screens made of acrylic are panels various shapes , type and. They, as a rule, come complete with acrylic products; they just need to be installed correctly and they will last for many years.

    Installation of the frame does not create any difficulties and can be done with your own hands.

    MDF

    Decorative MDF panels look good as a sliding screen in the shower room. Their installation is carried out by analogy with drywall, however, they differ in that it is necessary to add anti-funge compounds and prime the surface more thoroughly. It is also worth noting that the material must be moisture resistant.

    Video instruction A sliding bath screen is a structure that includes two or more doors and a guide frame. Installing such a screen allows you to decorate plumbing equipment

    , as well as save bathroom space and maintain access to pipes in case of breakage. The last point is very important for apartments with small dimensions.

    • Let's consider the main advantages of using sliding screens for the bath:

    • Installation of this design is quite simple. It can be carried out by any person who does not have special construction skills and knowledge; acceptable cost. Today, such screens are made from different materials
    • , so everyone can choose a product for themselves in the right price range;
    • simple and convenient dismantling if necessary (for example, when replacing communications under the bathroom);

    a wide range of models that differ not only in color, but also in design. Note! Doors that slide to the side when opened save money usable space

    rooms, which is a definite plus for small apartments.

    Among the drawbacks of the sliding model, only one can be noted, related to plastic products - the weak resistance of the guides. Plastic guides tend to deform after 2–4 years of use, which makes it difficult for the doors to move.

    Sliding screen design The frame material of sliding structures may vary, depending on the price. Today you can find frames made of plastic or aluminum. The most expensive options are equipped with a roller mechanism. Plastic options

    They are characterized by the lowest cost, as well as resistance to moisture. The main disadvantage of polymer frames is their weak strength. Aluminum frames, unlike plastic ones, are more durable, however, less resistant to moisture. Diversity inherent in both the first and second frame options. But paint applied to aluminum structural parts tends to come off and peel over time.
    The roller sliding design used for bath panels is most similar to that used in sliding wardrobes. The rollers are fixed on the panel and when the sash is opened, they run along the guides. Such panels are convenient and aesthetically pleasing, but they are also more expensive than simple models.

    Some screen options are equipped with shelves that are used for storing household chemicals, as well as various other accessories. A design solution of this type significantly increases functionality bathroom, especially small sizes. The cost of bath screens with shelves corresponds to their functionality.

    Sliding screen for a bath: components and main design functions

    Sliding screens often include the following: structural elements:

    • panels or doors, the frame of which is made of plastic, aluminum, and other metals;
    • accessories;
    • installation instructions.

    Helpful information! Sometimes sliding screens are decorated with various materials. The most common decorative element in this case is a mirror. Using a mirror has several disadvantages, including: difficult care and very weak strength ( mirror surface often breaks).

    The simplicity of design and practicality of such models do not in any way affect their functionality. Let's look at their main functions:

    • protection of communications from water ingress;
    • hiding communications and other items (plunger, household chemicals) that look inorganic in the interior of the bathroom;
    • decorative.

    You can buy a sliding screen for a bathtub in any construction hypermarket, as well as on the market. A variety of models allows you to choose the appropriate option for any interior.

    Types of sliding screens for bathtubs: 150 cm and 170 cm

    These products come in a small range of sizes. The dimensions of sliding screens are selected depending on the size of the room and, directly, the bath. There are two length options for standard sliding models.

    The minimum number of sashes in a sliding screen for a 150 cm bathtub is two, and the maximum is four, however, there are exceptions. The height of bath screens ranges from 506 to 560 millimeters. If necessary, you can adjust this indicator yourself. Height adjustment is quite simple - using the legs.

    Sliding screens for bathtubs 170 cm

    Models that have this length are the most common. Sliding screens for a 170 cm bathtub include from 2 to 4 doors, which are moved back due to a mechanism similar to the mechanism of a sliding wardrobe. The height of this structure varies from 506 to 560 mm. You can buy a 170 cm sliding bath screen in any specialized supermarket or store.

    You can purchase products and longer length, for example, 180 cm bath screens. Based on the design options of these products, there are 4 main varieties:

    • simple (plastic doors and aluminum frame);
    • multifunctional (the ability to adjust the size is added to the previous features);
    • products that are produced without frames;
    • products obscuring the end part of the bathtub bowl.

    Thanks to its simple design, you can make your own sliding screen for the bathtub. Photos and prices of similar products can be viewed in manufacturers’ catalogs, where you can see the use of these structures in real interiors.

    Plastic screens for bathtubs

    Models made from this material, as mentioned above, are considered the most common. They have become widespread due to their reasonable cost, as well as other positive qualities, including:

    • resistance to fungi and mold;
    • resistance to temperature changes;
    • rot resistance.

    The waterproofness of plastic material is a huge advantage that determines its prevalence. Constant humidity in the bathroom negatively affects products made from chipboard or MDF. Over time, they become completely unusable and require replacement. In turn, plastic does not swell from moisture, and it is also not afraid of rotting. Today on construction market you can find products of different lengths - from 120 to 180 cm and above. Sliding screens for bathtubs 150 cm are easy to install, since their length is standard. The same applies to sliding screens for 170 cm bathtubs.

    a wide range of models that differ not only in color, but also in design. Polymer doors do not require individual care - just wipe them with a regular cloth. Drops and stains on polymer material not as noticeable as, for example, on a mirror surface, which is also a plus.

    Screens for acrylic bathtubs

    Acrylic sliding panels often come complete with a bathtub, which is made of the same material. They are distinguished by their original design and, as a rule, consist of a solid panel. They can be purchased separately, however, do not forget that they are only suitable for acrylic bathtubs due to the mounting features.

    Installing an acrylic screen has some features that you need to pay attention to.

    Let's look at how to install bath screens made from this material:

    • first of all, you need to find the center of the screen panel and mark it with a marker;
    • Next, you need to place part of the panel over the side of the bathtub;
    • at this stage the panel is applied to the bathtub;
    • the place of fixation is marked, which should coincide with the first mark;
    • the studs are screwed on;
    • the nuts are used to fix the corner that is needed to fasten the panel;
    • holes are made in the marked places (with a drill);
    • the structure is fixed with self-tapping screws, which are masked using plugs.

    The acrylic construction is reliable and durable. If the installation rules are followed, it will last for more than one year.

    Features of sliding panels made of MDF

    MDF is a material that is made by pressing wood chips. Taking into account the humidity of the bathroom, MDF screens are made using moisture-resistant impregnation. Special resins act as such impregnation.

    The main advantages of moisture-resistant MDF structures are practicality and a fairly long service life. Like their polymer counterparts, these products are distinguished by a wide range of colors. Various designs and patterns are applied to them as decoration. To enhance moisture-resistant properties MDF surface The boards are laminated with plastic films.

    A plate made of this material has a fairly large mass, so the guides for it are made of durable metals. The MDF design differs from screens made of other materials in that it often consists of 3 sashes. Moreover, the middle door is stationary, and the side doors open like in sliding wardrobes. The most common sizes of MDF screens for bathtubs are: 150, 160, 170, 180 cm.

    Sliding glass and mirror screen models: increasing the bathroom space

    Such structures are used much less frequently than plastic ones. This is due to the fact that they have very poor resistance to mechanical stress. However they are different high quality, presentability, as well as resistance to moisture.

    The dimensions of such panels correspond to products made from other materials. The easiest way is to buy sliding screens for a 150 cm bathtub. However glass screens 180 cm bathtubs are sometimes quite difficult to find. In this case, many companies are engaged in the production of individual panels to order.

    Helpful advice! For people whose mobility is limited, there are models of sliding panels equipped with special handrails.

    The glass of such a panel can be transparent or colored. In turn, the structure can be either glossy or matte. And also glass sliding models can be made with a variety of designs and patterns. The backlight for such a screen looks very impressive.

    The demand for products whose outer surface is represented by a mirror is quite stable. An element such as a mirror fits perfectly into the interior of the bathroom and allows you to visually expand its space. And also the mirror surface of the panel under the bathtub allows you to add a play of light to the room.

    Mirror elements can be installed at different angles, and artificial lighting can be added. The finished design looks very original and presentable. The disadvantages of this option include: the fragility of the panel, the difficulties associated with caring for the mirror surface.

    Sliding screen design options

    The external design of panels of this type can be very different. For example, models that are equipped with photo printing are very popular. Photo printing can be of two types: regular (2D) and volumetric (3D). The latter option creates the effect of depth of space, which looks very stylish and original.

    For rooms decorated in a minimalist style, it is recommended to choose monochromatic options. The structure of the outer surface of plain models can be either glossy or matte.

    Not only the panels of these products have decorative design. The legs, which serve as a support, are also distinguished by an abundance of design solutions. Expensive designs are equipped with antique-style legs. The shape of these elements can be very different - from simple geometric shapes to animal paws.

    How to choose a sliding screen for a bath?

    Before buying a screen for a sliding bathtub, you need to think about three main points in advance, such as:

    • size;
    • material;
    • design.

    The above parameters determine the complexity of installation, ease of use and service life of the structure. As mentioned above, the most common sizes of bath screens are 150 and 170 cm. The material and design are selected individually, depending on the preferences of the owners and the characteristics of a particular room.

    If you purchase an acrylic bathtub that has non-standard dimensions, it is recommended to order a custom screen in advance. Otherwise, it is unlikely that you will be able to select the necessary option. To save money, you can purchase a blind type product. This model is less functional, however, it is suitable for protecting communications.

    Helpful advice! To expand functionality, folding screens for bathtubs are often purchased. In most cases, such screens are equipped with special shelves. However, it is necessary to take into account the usable area of the room, since the folding model is not the best choice for a standard, small-sized bathroom.

    The panel frame made of aluminum is the most suitable option. Experts recommend using plastic frames only if the panel doors are also made of this material, otherwise the frame may not withstand the load).

    For small bathrooms, only a sliding design model is suitable. When purchasing such a screen, you need to pay attention to the following factors:

    • serviceability of the roller mechanism;
    • quality of guide elements;
    • Convenient height adjustment of product legs.

    The price of screens for bathtubs can be found on the Internet on websites that sell these products. As a rule, in order to buy sliding screens for a 170 cm bathtub you need to spend from 2 to 5 thousand rubles.

    How to install a screen under a sliding bathtub?

    The process of installing a plastic panel for a bathtub of this type does not require special construction skills. In order to install this structure, you must carefully study the instructions presented below.

    Installation algorithm plastic screen looks like this:

    • First you need to find the middle of the panel. To do this, just use a regular construction tape measure;
    • Next, you need to determine the point that will correspond to the center of the side of the bathtub;
    • midpoints are marked with a marker or pencil;
    • at this stage top part the panels need to be brought over the side. In order to perform this manipulation, you will need to place the product next to the bathtub and tilt it at an angle of 30–40°;
    • after this, it is necessary to determine the optimal position of the panel and make the appropriate markings on the wall;
    • further, reinforcing structural elements are fixed, for which corners are often used. Fixation is carried out along the marked lines using a drill and dowel-nails. For screens whose length is 150 cm, it is enough to make a reinforcing frame around the perimeter. Screens for 170 cm bathtubs require more serious reinforcement, namely 1–2 intermediate racks. Sliding screens for 180 cm bathtubs also require the installation of intermediate racks;
    • making a frame for a panel yourself is quite simple: you need to take measurements and cut strips of the appropriate length from metal profile. The joining of elements is done using self-tapping screws or corners;
    • We place the panel so that it is located close to the frame or metal corners and unscrew the legs (for fixation);
    • At this stage, the panel frame is fixed to the frame or metal corners. Decorative elements are used for fixation;
    • at the end, the gaps between the side of the bath and the screen frame are filled with a special sealing compound to prevent moisture from entering the structure.

    Helpful advice! For convenience during operation of the sliding system, it is recommended to glue handles to its doors.

    Cast iron bathtubs are the easiest to shield. In this case, it is enough to secure sliding structure using the legs (you should be careful when fixing the legs of the sliding screen for a 180 cm bathtub). And when shielding an acrylic bathtub, you should be careful, as there is a danger of it lifting when the legs are unscrewed. This is due to the fact that an acrylic bowl weighs much less than a cast iron one.

    Making a sliding screen for a bathtub with your own hands

    Making a sliding panel yourself is a simple process. If necessary, you can make a continuous screen from plasterboard sheet or MDF. The above materials must be selected based on their moisture resistance. After installing a sheet of one material or another, the screen is covered with ceramic tiles. To access the pipes, such a screen has an inspection window (hatch).

    It is somewhat more difficult to make a sliding model, however, if you follow the algorithm of actions, then there should be no problems with installing such a structure. Below we will look at how to make a sliding screen using W-shaped profile, as well as the materials that will be required for this.

    Let's look at what materials you need to prepare to make your own sliding screen for a bathtub:

    • w-shaped profile. The profile material is selected depending on the material of the dampers. The most commonly used profiles are aluminum or plastic. The width of such a profile should be no less than 20 mm and no more than 24 mm;
    • tubes for racks. Experts recommend using steel tubes. The cross-section of the tubes should be approximately 10 mm.

    First you need to make threads on the ends of the tubes. The screen is fixed using special fasteners. It is recommended to make sliding doors from cheap and easy-to-handle plastic material. Getting plastic sashes is quite simple: you need to cut the polymer panel into pieces. In order not to make a mistake in the dimensions, it is recommended to take all measurements in advance and make the appropriate markings. Then the resulting parts need to be glued together. Transparent glue is best for this.

    The work algorithm looks like this:

    1. First, measurements are taken and drilling locations are marked.
    2. Using a level, the points where the fixing elements will be located are marked.
    3. For the guides (top and bottom), it is necessary to measure pieces of the w-shaped metal profile corresponding in length.
    4. The panel is cut into pieces. Thus, the leaves are obtained required size.
    5. Screen assembly.
    6. Installation of the structure using spacer posts.

    a wide range of models that differ not only in color, but also in design. The screen, made on the basis of a W-shaped profile, has some disadvantages. The main disadvantage of this design is the poor resistance of the profile to moisture.

    Screen design is a matter of taste. If desired, you can make the doors out of plastic different color, glue handles for convenience, equip the structure with shelves for household chemicals.

    Features of installing a screen under the bath: video

    In family life. This is not just a room where hygiene procedures are carried out. For many people, it is a place of rest, relaxation and simply a secluded place where you can be alone. It is unlikely that you will be able to relax in a room where rags for various purposes hang on pipes, and packs of detergents and bottles of household chemicals are placed in the corners.

    Therefore, most people strive to make their bathroom as comfortable, beautiful, and clean as possible. Some people are satisfied with simple painted walls and the ceiling, some people want to decorate everything with tiles and plastic, while others can afford it natural materials like marble and onyx.

    But at the same time, everyone certainly wants to cover the space under the bathtub with some kind of screen (unless, of course, the bathtub itself is an exclusive product decorating the bathroom), since contemplating valves and plumbing siphons is an unattractive activity.

    Why do you need a screen under the bathtub?

    The screen covering the sides of the bathtub performs several functions:

    • aesthetic, making the space more beautiful;
    • functional - allows you to use the bathroom space more efficiently if you place all household products and tools behind the screen, such as a plunger, brushes for washing the bathtub and even rags for cleaning the apartment;
    • sanitary – does not allow water to flow under the bathtub and prevents dust from accumulating under it, which makes cleaning the room easier and makes it more hygienic.

    In addition, self-construction of the screen allows you to decorate the bathroom not in a standard “like everyone else”, but individually. For many craftsmen, this serves as a way of self-expression.

    According to the installation method, bath screens are divided into:

    • solid;
    • swing;

    Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages, which are best known in advance.

    Solid screen many will find it the most attractive, as it allows the bath to best fit into the interior of the room. It is the fixed screen that allows you to tile the bathtub in full accordance with, which gives it a uniform appearance.

    The advantages of this method include the following:

    • a successful solution for the bathroom interior;
    • ease of care for such a screen - flat surface can be easily cleaned up with a damp cloth or sponge;
    • The service life of such a screen is practically unlimited.

    But there are also some disadvantages:

    • difficult access to communications located under the bathroom (usually only a small window is left in the screen), which in the event of a breakdown may lead to the need to completely disassemble the screen;
    • there is no way to wash the bathroom floor or check the space for mold;
    • there is no place to store household chemicals, since it is impossible to get anything due to the static design;
    • installing a screen is quite a labor-intensive task, especially if you have to cover not only one (long) side of the bathtub, but also the end ones;
    • It is necessary to leave a small niche for feet under the bathtub, otherwise washing the bathtub will become quite inconvenient.

    Hinged screen– used mainly where there is a lot of space to open doors, as well as in those bathrooms where furniture sets for bathrooms rooms.

    In this case, hinged doors make the screen part of this set, allowing you to decorate the room in a single key. But for this, most likely, you will have to make the screen to order, otherwise it will be difficult to achieve complete resemblance to the furniture.

    Most often, such screens are made of MDF, similar in color to the shade of the furniture.

    The advantages of such structures include:

    • highly decorative;
    • possibility to place with inside The doors have quite large shelves for various accessories and household chemicals (and fully opening the doors makes their use as convenient as possible).
    • can only be used in large bathrooms or with a small amount of equipment;
    • the need to order a screen greatly increases its cost.

    Sliding screens- Most Popular. When making it yourself, this type is most often used.

    Such a screen consists of two horizontal guides along which two doors move.

    A ready-made screen of this type can be bought in a store or ordered if the dimensions of your bathtub are non-standard. Typically, the length of the screen varies from 150 to 180 cm. Its height also changes with the help of sliding legs, which allow you to adjust it to a bathroom of any height.

    The frames and doors of such screens (both factory-made and home-made) can be made of various materials. For frames most often used:

    • - cheap, quite durable, not afraid of moisture and easy to care for, the most various colors and textures (the only drawback is when strong impact may burst);
    • aluminum – stronger than plastic, moisture resistant, can be painted in any color (but the paint may be erased from the surface of the profile over time;
    • option with a roller mechanism, which allows you to make the frame invisible and facilitates the sliding of the doors (but their price is much higher and it is almost always necessary to order the mechanism individually).

    The following materials are used to make doors:

    • plastic is a lightweight material, varied in appearance, not afraid of moisture, but with an accidental strong impact it can collapse;
    • MDF - very similar in appearance, there is a wide selection of textures and colors, but moisture resistance is not too high;
    • Chipboard is inexpensive, can be covered with film, but has low water resistance (the material is quite heavy and is more suitable for swing doors);
    • plexiglass - a wide variety of textures, moisture resistant and durable, will look much smoother better than plastic, but is also fragile under mechanical stress.

    Making your own screen

    Most often, for self-production, the option with a fixed screen with a technological hole is chosen.

    Such a screen can be made in several ways:

    • lay out of brick;
    • make a wooden or steel frame and cover it with plasterboard or other board material.

    Brick screen – durable permanent structure, which can only be removed by completely disassembling it. Therefore, before installing it, you need to make sure that all pipes, their connections, siphons and valves are in excellent condition and do not require repair for many years.

    To build the screen wall, you can use well-fired brick (it does not absorb moisture well) or a partition block:

    1. First, you need to mark a masonry line on the floor in accordance with the size of the brick. More often the wall is made half a brick thick; it can be placed on an edge, but such a wall will be unstable.
    2. Masonry is carried out in as usual- with ligation of stitches. To make the masonry more stable, it is connected to the walls of the bathroom, attaching wires to them at the level of each row.
    3. When laying out the wall, leave a hole in it of the required size for the communications under the bathroom.
    4. Since the bathtub expands upward, bricks can be laid on edge in the upper rows.
    5. After the masonry has dried, it is tiled or tiled.

    Never use masonry as a support for the edge of the bathtub. To prevent this from happening, a gap of about 1 cm high is left between the top row of bricks and the bathtub, which is then foamed.

    this is the simplest and cheap look screen for self-production.

    To make it, you need to build a frame, which is then sheathed with sheets of plasterboard. The frame can be made of either wood or metal profiles. When using a wooden frame, it must be painted or treated with special products to reduce the likelihood of rotting and mold.

    For a wooden frame you will need:

    • bars measuring 40*40 mm;
    • screws;
    • metal corners.

    The operating procedure is as follows:

    1. Measurements are taken at the location of the screen and marking of the places where the bars are attached. It should be taken into account that the screen frame should be slightly recessed under the bathtub, taking into account the thickness of the finishing layer (). If you plan to finish the gypsum board with tiles, then you need to add an additional thickness of the tiles and the adhesive layer.
    2. The frame bars are prepared according to the measurements: 2 horizontal and vertical bars in required quantity. If the bathtub is short, then 2 vertical bars along the edges of the frame will be enough. If the bathtub is long, then it is better to add a couple more vertical bars at a distance of 50 - 60 cm from each other for structural rigidity.
    3. You need to drill holes in the outer side bars to attach the screen to the walls.
    4. Then the frame is connected with screws and corners.
    5. The frame is attached to the walls.
    6. If necessary, the lower beam of the frame can be secured to the floor.

    To make the screen you will need:

    • moisture-resistant plasterboard;
    • hinged hinges for hanging the inspection hatch door;
    • metal latch.

    Operating procedure:

    1. A sheet of drywall is marked so that it covers the entire frame.
    2. The intended panel is cut out using a construction knife.
    3. A hatch hole is cut out in the panel and the door is hung and secured with a latch.
    4. The screen panel is attached to the frame using screws.
    5. Check the stability of the screen and, if necessary, make additional fastenings.

    The last step is to finish the screen surface with the selected finishing material: film, tiles, mosaics.

    When using a metal profile as a frame, the procedure is the same, only the drywall is fastened not with screws, but with self-tapping screws.

    To make your own screens, you can use not only the materials listed above, but also many others:

    • Wood - you just need to choose wood that is not afraid of dampness. Such a screen can be made in the form of wooden blinds - that is, with gaps that will help ventilate the wood and the space under the bathroom.
    • Plastic lining - mounted vertically on the frame so that water does not linger in the seams. You can also make a screen with narrow apertures.
    • Fabric – for such screens, quick-drying fabrics that are easy to care for are selected: polyester, nylon, membrane “breathable” fabrics. Such screens are obtained by upholstering or covering the frame with the selected material.
    • As an inspection door, you can use a ready-made inspection hatch suitable color.

    Sometimes screens are made whose walls are tilted outward using special fittings. On the inner surface of such screens there are narrow but long baskets for storing cleaning products, sponges and other accessories needed in the bathroom.

    Often they come with a ready-made screen made of the same material. All components are supplied together with screen shields.

    It is more difficult to make a screen for a corner or curved bathtub. A bent metal profile covered with plastic is better suited here.

    If you don’t want to equip your bathroom with a boring purchased screen, then you can always make an inexpensive and beautiful homemade one. True, you will have to spend time and make efforts, but the product will be unique, and your bathroom will be exclusive.

    An excellent way to hide all plumbing communications and give the room completeness is to install a screen under the bathtub. And in order for the screen to fit perfectly and you save money, you can make it yourself.

    A bathtub installed without a screen does not look very elegant even in the neatest and most stylish bathroom. Therefore, you should think carefully about how you can close the space under it in such a way that access to plumbing communications is not blocked and all functionality is preserved.

    A universal solution to this problem can be a special screen installed under the bathtub. And in order to get a beautiful, unique and unusual interior detail, you need to abandon the ready-made purchased screen and make a screen for the bathtub with your own hands.

    Which material to choose?

    The easiest and most popular screens to manufacture are plastic ones, which are not afraid of dampness and are quite durable. The screen can be covered with a special film or made of multi-colored plastic that matches the tone.

    Those who do not intend to use the space under the bathroom as storage can install themselves, which should be equipped with a door so that you have access to plumbing equipment if necessary.

    Support frame

    For each screen, you need to build a special frame, onto which the panels themselves must then be attached. The frame can be made of aluminum or wooden profiles with parameters 40x40, 30x30, 25x25.

    Before starting work, you must make markings on the floor and walls in order to mark as accurately as possible all the lines along which you will install the screen under the bathtub with your own hands. You can also install transverse profiles that will help strengthen the screen and give additional rigidity to the entire structure.

    Then all the profiles must be joined together and attached to the floor and walls of the bathroom.

    Quite original and at the same time stylish solution can become a brick screen, which will then be finished with decorative plaster or tiles. Such a screen can be easily made independently.

    When starting work, you need to mark the future screen so that the edge of the bath is flush with its wall.

    You should also make vertical markings on the opposite wall. When laying bricks, this marking will serve as a guide. It is recommended to do the masonry using a cement-sand mortar of ¼ or ½ brick.

    If desired, you can make a special niche for feet in the screen and be sure to build a small door so that there is access to plumbing communications and drainage. You can make such a door yourself from plastic panels or purchase a ready-made one in a store.

    Popular screens

    This screen is the cheapest, and it is also very easy to manufacture and install. No plastic needed additional finishing, so you can use the bathroom immediately after installation. If necessary, this structure can be easily disassembled in order to open access to the space under the bathroom.

    Before you begin installation, you should stock up on everything necessary materials: in addition to the panels themselves, you will also need a starting profile, which will need to be secured around the entire perimeter of the screen.

    In order to prevent the plastic from losing its shape and bending over time, it is necessary to strengthen the frame with an additional profile installed in the middle of the structure.

    Installation should begin by gluing the bottom of the profile to the floor using sealant. Then you need construction knife cut the lining strips and insert them into the starting profile. You just need to cut a hole in advance in the place where the door will be located.

    To make such a screen, you should use special plasterboard, which is intended for rooms with increased level humidity.

    One of the main advantages of a plasterboard screen is that it can be constructed with small shelves, so it can successfully replace a chest of drawers or a cabinet in a small bathroom.

    Such a screen is made from sheets of plasterboard, which are fixed to a frame assembled from a metal profile. Depending on how the bathtub itself will be located, the frame can be installed either on only one side of the bathtub, or on both sides at once. The amount of materials you will need to build the screen depends on which option you ultimately choose.

    In order to make such a screen for a bathtub with your own hands, you will need the drywall itself, paint, impregnations and sealants, a profile for drywall and putty.

    Work should begin with marking the frame. Then you need to assemble a frame from the profile in accordance with the future shape of the screen and install it using a screwdriver and drill under the bathtub.

    First of all, you need to secure the smaller part of the structure, then the larger one, and then fasten them together. After the sheets of drywall are fixed to the frame, their surface must be treated with sealant, puttied and coated with a primer. When all layers are dry, finishing work can begin.

    Remember that it is necessary to provide a technological hole.

    Ceramic tiles can be used to decorate screens made of brick, MDF or plasterboard. First you need to prime the surface, then apply putty on it and wait until it is completely dry. Then you need to thoroughly rub the surface with sandpaper and prime it again.

    The tiles must be laid in exactly the same way as usual, using crosses for the seams, special glue and grout. The advantages of such a screen are its durability and decorativeness.

    If desired, you can choose some interesting color combination, or you can even make sliding doors, which will be a little more expensive and more complicated.

    Before installation it must be soaked MDF boards special impregnations, as they are afraid of moisture. Then they need to be coated with a primer and secured to the frame in the same way as gypsum board sheets.

    To additionally protect such a screen from moisture, it is necessary to make a ventilation hole, which should be located away from the process door. Most often, a small slot is made for this purpose, 2-3 cm wide and 5-10 cm long. So that it does not disturb general view bathroom and is not noticeable, it must be closed with a decorative plastic grille.

    You can finish the MDF screen with plastic or tiles.

    This type of bathtub is more fragile than a cast iron bathtub, so you need to be very careful when installing the screen. Its design is no different from the design intended for a cast iron bathtub.

    Before starting installation, it is necessary to apply markings to the side of the bathtub and mark the places where the screen will be fixed.

    Then the upper part should be aligned with the side of the bathtub and marks should also be applied to it, which should coincide with the marks on the side.

    The screen can be attached to the bath using self-tapping screws and mounting studs.

    To ensure that the entry points of the self-tapping screws are invisible, it is recommended to cover them with special plugs painted to match the bathtub. You can also build a screen from brick, although you should first make the screen itself, and only then install the bath on top of it.

    To make such a screen, you will need plastic or aluminum guide profiles, standard plastic panels, self-tapping screws and a square pipe, the cross-section of which should be 10x10 mm.

    First of all, from a pair of parallel tubes, which must be connected transversely by the same tube, it is necessary to make a frame. Position vertical racks needed depending on the size of the screen.

    After painting the pipes, you need to install guides on them - attach one to the upper frame, and the other to the lower. After this, you should cut the panels and insert them into the grooves of the guides.

    Typically, screens that are installed under the bathtub, taking into account the shape of the bathtub itself and the characteristics of the room, are made rectangular. The only exception may be screens designed for corner baths, which have a curved design.

    Depending on what material the bath screen is made of, you can improve it or add some features to it.

    For example, plasterboard or brick screens may have small niches for feet, which are needed to ensure that the feet do not rest against the wall. Such a niche can be either inclined or straight. Screens may also differ in the method of opening - hinged or sliding. The second option is preferable, since in this case you will not need extra bed for doors.

    It is best to make a sliding screen from plastic lining or PVC panels, since these materials are the easiest to work with, and the screen that is made from them is very durable.

    For installation you will need a special aluminum profile, from which all door guides will be made.

    First you need to install the frame on which the guides should be installed. The length of the guides should be equal to the distance between the walls or the length of the bathroom.

    The doors should be secured to the frame, placing them in the first profile groove on the sides of the screen. The central part is most often made motionless and placed in the middle groove.

    Using spacer bolts, the finished screen must be attached to the bathtub, and furniture handles must be installed on the movable doors.

    If you want to create a screen under corner bath with your own hands, then you need to take into account that materials such as drywall are quite difficult to bend yourself and then place on a rigid frame. Therefore, the best solution would be to make a screen from plastic, which is relatively inexpensive, is not susceptible to moisture, and bends well. In addition, nowadays you can purchase plastic panels in a wide variety of shades.

    First of all, you need to attach the plastic guides to the floor in the bathroom, repeating the curve of the bathtub itself. With help liquid nails you need to attach wooden blocks to the top, which will serve to fix the top guide.

    Another screen option could be a brick screen, because the masonry can be made of any shape, and then decorated with mosaics or tiles. But such a screen must be built first, and then the bathroom must be installed on it.

      THANK YOU so much for the very useful information in the article. Everything is presented very clearly. It feels like a lot of work has been done to analyze the operation of the eBay store

      • Thank you and other regular readers of my blog. Without you, I would not be motivated enough to dedicate much time to maintaining this site. My brain is structured this way: I like to dig deep, systematize scattered data, try things that no one has done before or looked at from this angle. It’s a pity that our compatriots have no time for shopping on eBay because of the crisis in Russia. They buy from Aliexpress from China, since goods there are much cheaper (often at the expense of quality). But online auctions eBay, Amazon, ETSY will easily give the Chinese a head start in the range of branded items, vintage items, handmade items and various ethnic goods.

          What is valuable in your articles is your personal attitude and analysis of the topic. Don't give up this blog, I come here often. There should be a lot of us like that. Email me I recently received an email with an offer that they would teach me how to trade on Amazon and eBay.

    • It’s also nice that eBay’s attempts to Russify the interface for users from Russia and the CIS countries have begun to bear fruit. After all, the overwhelming majority of citizens of the countries of the former USSR do not have strong knowledge of foreign languages. No more than 5% of the population speak English. There are more among young people. Therefore, at least the interface is in Russian - this is a big help for online shopping on this trading platform. eBay did not follow the path of its Chinese counterpart Aliexpress, where a machine (very clumsy and incomprehensible, sometimes causing laughter) translation of product descriptions is performed. I hope that at a more advanced stage of development of artificial intelligence, high-quality machine translation from any language to any in a matter of seconds will become a reality. So far we have this (the profile of one of the sellers on eBay with a Russian interface, but an English description):
