Butterfly flower, flower of happiness, flower of love, clock plant, clover of happiness, Madame Butterfly, day and night - whatever they call the little sorrel! And she, you know, grows in our flowerpots and does not demand special attention. Oxalis sorrel It is considered an unpretentious indoor plant dweller, which is actually true. But there are still nuances in its content. What care does the flower of happiness require? Read about it in this article.

In this message I publish my personal observations: what does wood sorrel need in an apartment and talk about the intricacies of keeping it at home.

In the mornings, it seems to hover over the flowerpot, revealing its three-winged foliage. And in the evening it resembles closed umbrellas or purple mushrooms.

Oxalis tends to open its leaves when the sun appears and fold them in the afternoon. That's why it is also calledflower day and night or watch-watch. However, she can fold leaves under other circumstances, but more on that later.

There are different types oxalis. But at home, triangular wood sorrel (Oxalis triangularis) is more often grown. It can have either green or purple leaves.

Butterfly flower is usually classified as an ornamental foliage plant. But its flowering is a real charm. The wings of this phytomoth carry delicate scatterings of small petals. Therefore, oxalis can be safely classified as beautifully flowering. He delighted me with these touching “crowns” until late autumn. And now - my personal observations of what sorrel needs at home.

The flower of happiness does not like extremes. They write that it needs bright light - the more sun, the more beautiful its wing leaves will be. But this is not entirely true. From too bright lighting, the sorrel tree seems to shrink all over, folding its vulnerable leaves - as if trying to protect them from the scorching rays. Only when I thought of moving the flower day and night to a place with a little shade, it began to straighten out. And before that, its leaves were folded even in the first half of the day.

In addition, this miracle moth shrinks from drafts. Cool air influxes, which occur even in summer, cause serious damage to its phytoflight. Leaf damage is observed.

Clover also does not tolerate happiness and heat. For this reason, it also often does not open its leaves, and they dry out and wrinkle.

In the summer, I placed my wood sorrel 1 meter from a very bright window. It was then, protected from drafts, heat and bright sun, that it began to grow and bloom profusely. Cloudy weather had no effect on the opening of buds.

There are no special recommendations for watering. Oxalis needs to be irrigated in the same way as many other green friends - as the soil dries out. Of course, like all indoor plants, it needs fertilizer. As a rule, 2 times a month in the spring-summer season. But please note:

The flower of love grows greatly, it may be necessary to transplant it into a new flowerpot. (Last year I replanted it 2 times). Therefore, fertilizing may not be necessary.

“Ordinary” universal soil is suitable for this clock plant. However, care must be taken when transplanting. Lucky clover leaves are very delicate and can be easily damaged by too rough touches.

Leaves do not take root in water; I tried to soften the sorrel like this - nothing worked. But oxalis perfectly “gives offspring” by dividing the nodules.

This butterfly does not fly in a flowerpot all year. In winter, this plant may go dormant. If there is insufficient lighting, Madama Butterfly may shed its leaves - partially or completely. At this time, it is recommended to slightly reduce watering (although I watered as usual). By spring, the ground part will appear again.

So, my wood sorrel actually dropped its leaves sometime in January. And now, day after day, I watch her develop more and more wings. It is very interesting to watch how, one after another, all the little purple “umbrellas” grow almost out of the ground. They quickly stretch upward. And after a couple of days they turn into large leaves. And behind them new “young growth” grows.

The flower of happiness does not apply to hanging plants. However, it looks very impressive in the interior if you hang it in a basket.

I don’t know why wood sorrel is called the flower of happiness (lucky clover) or the flower of love. But a lot positive emotions She gives me pleasure - it's true.

This beautiful plant belongs to the oxalis family.

Addition from 2018. I made a video where I talk about caring for a butterfly flower:

Enjoy watching everyone! I would be grateful for subscribing to my video channel.

Butterfly flower or Oxalis (Oxalis) - an unusually simple plant, in nature it creates a blanket of shade in a humid forest, and indoors it is a houseplant that resembles a flock of butterflies crouched in a window sleeping.

For unusual shape of the leaf that personifies the Holy Trinity, the people of Ireland made a Butterfly Flower national symbol and placed it on their coat of arms. Tropical and subtropical places on the continents are considered the homeland of the Butterfly Flower. Nowadays, thickets of the Butterfly Flower are found in the forests of the South of America, Africa, the South of Europe, as well as in the spruce forests of the Russian Federation.

The butterfly flower is a flower with sour-tasting leaves, which are also popularly called hare cabbage. Oxalis leaves contain sorrel acid salt, contain a lot of carotene, vitamin C and are edible. Butterfly flowers include grass, shrubs and subshrubs; some species have a rhizome, bulb or edible tuber.
The leaves of the Butterfly Flower are formed from 3-4 or more leaves; there are flowers without leaves at all. Some Butterfly Flowers fold their leaves at night, when exposed to bright sun or during rain.

Flowers correct form, have five petals with white, pink, lavender, purple or yellow flowers, usually collected in an umbellate inflorescence. The fruit of the Butterfly Flower is a capsule that, when ripe, cracks and bursts, the seeds are scattered at a distance of 2 meters. Among the Butterfly Flowers there are also species of weeds.

Kislitsa(Oxalis) from the sorrel family (Oxalidaceae) has approximately 800 species of subshrubs, annual herbs and perennials. Interestingly, it is the oxalis shamrock (and not the clover leaf) that is considered the unofficial symbol of Ireland. In Catholic countries, potted species indoor oxalis, for which it is not at all difficult to organize care at home, are given as gifts for Christmas as often as the Christmas star poinsettia. In our country, many types of wood sorrel are perfectly acclimatized and are often used by gardeners to decorate parks, squares and gardens. THANK YOU so much for the very useful information in the article. Everything is presented very clearly. It feels like a lot of work has been done to analyze the operation of the eBay store

    • Thank you and other regular readers of my blog. Without you, I would not be motivated enough to dedicate much time to maintaining this site. My brain is structured this way: I like to dig deep, systematize scattered data, try things that no one has done before or looked at from this angle. It’s a pity that our compatriots have no time for shopping on eBay because of the crisis in Russia. They buy from Aliexpress from China, since goods there are much cheaper (often at the expense of quality). But online auctions eBay, Amazon, ETSY will easily give the Chinese a head start in the range of branded items, vintage items, handmade items and various ethnic goods.

What is valuable in your articles is your personal attitude and analysis of the topic. Don't give up this blog, I come here often. There should be a lot of us like that. Email me I recently received an email with an offer that they would teach me how to trade on Amazon and eBay. And I remembered your detailed articles about these trades. area I re-read everything again and concluded that the courses are a scam. I haven't bought anything on eBay yet. I am not from Russia, but from Kazakhstan (Almaty). But we also don’t need any extra expenses yet. I wish you good luck and stay safe in Asia.

  • It’s also nice that eBay’s attempts to Russify the interface for users from Russia and the CIS countries have begun to bear fruit. After all, the overwhelming majority of citizens of the countries of the former USSR do not have strong knowledge of foreign languages. No more than 5% of the population speak English. There are more among young people. Therefore, at least the interface is in Russian - this is a big help for online shopping on this trading platform. eBay did not follow the path of its Chinese counterpart Aliexpress, where a machine (very clumsy and incomprehensible, sometimes causing laughter) translation of product descriptions is performed. I hope that at a more advanced stage of development of artificial intelligence, high-quality machine translation from any language to any in a matter of seconds will become a reality. So far we have this (the profile of one of the sellers on eBay with a Russian interface, but an English description):
