In September 2016, the LG X Power K220DS, one of the smartphones in the X line, went on sale. This series belongs to the middle price range, all of its models are distinguished by certain characteristics and bear the appropriate names: X Style, X Cam, X View. The highlight of the LG X Power is its capacious battery, which is usually not typical for LG devices, and thanks to the low screen resolution and average processor, the smartphone has excellent battery life. At the time of writing this review, the device costs about $170.

All components in the smartphone are selected in such a way as to ensure long battery life.

Design, case materials, dimensions and weight

Externally, X Power is similar to X Style, but it is larger and thicker. The entire body is made of fairly high quality plastic. The device is assembled well without noticeable play. As for the design, some may find it too simple, but our opinion is quite decent. In any case, it differs from the products of Chinese manufacturers in the external design and location of the main camera and speaker.

On the front panel above the screen there is a speaker, a front camera and an event indicator. The LG logo is visible at the bottom. There is an additional microphone on the top edge.

On the bottom there is a 3.5 mm audio jack, micro USB and the main microphone.
On the left there is a volume button and a slot for SIM cards.
On the right is only the power/lock button.

On the back panel in the upper left corner there is the main camera, under which there is an LED flash. There is a speaker in the lower left corner. The LG logo again appears in the very center of the rear panel.

The physical dimensions of the device are 148.9mm high, 74.9mm wide and 7.9mm thick. Screen-to-body ratio 69.4%. The device weighs only 139 grams. Available colors: white, gold and indigo.

CPU

The South Korean giant has released several modifications of the device, which differ in processors, but only the LG X Power K220 DS model is presented on our market. It has a chipset from the Chinese manufacturer MediaTek MT6735. The chip consists of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.3 GHz and a dual-core Mali-T720 graphics controller. The 64-bit chipset is manufactured using a 28 nm process technology, which is the thickest modern process technology used in mobile processors. However, it was released two years ago - in January 2015.

Popular benchmark tests rated the device's performance as follows: AnTuTu scored 31,874 points, while GeekBench 3 scored 531 points when testing single-core performance and 1,586 points when testing multi-core performance. Games of various genres can be easily launched on a smartphone. The most productive games will not run at maximum settings, but at medium settings the picture will be of acceptable quality and without large lags that would hinder the game.

Memory

LG X Power has 2 GB of LPDDR3 RAM. Its own memory is 16 GB, which is not bad. Of these, a little more than 10 GB are available to the user. The internal memory is expandable using microSD memory cards with a capacity of up to 32 GB, but it can only be installed instead of a second SIM card.

Display

The smartphone display has a diagonal of 5.3 inches. It has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a pixel density of 277 ppi. Up to 10 touches are supported simultaneously. The display is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. The IPS screen is made using In-Cell Touch technology. Thanks to this technology, the display is highly responsive to touch and is thinner.

In sunny weather it will not be difficult to see what is written on the screen. The brightness scale is quite wide and there is automatic brightness adjustment. However, owners complain that the automatic adjustment is not smooth. Unfortunately, you can't adjust the color temperature. Overall the display is of good quality and has great viewing angles.

Autonomy

The smartphone package includes instructions, a warranty card, a special needle for installing or removing SIM cards, a microUSB – USB cable and a network adapter with the inscription “quick charge”. Standard set, nothing special.

As noted above, the main pride of the LG X Power is its good battery life. This was achieved thanks to a capacious 4100 mAh non-removable battery, low screen resolution, an average processor and a good shell without unnecessary bells and whistles. Thanks to fast charging support, the fairly capacious battery takes just over two hours to charge.

The battery can last two days. This is a good result, considering that most smartphones do not survive until the end of the day. Another confirmation of good battery life is that watching video from a memory card at maximum brightness lasts about 12 hours.

Camera

The cameras of the device in question are average, the photo quality is more or less good with sufficient lighting, and if there is insufficient lighting, a lot of noise appears in the pictures. The main camera has a resolution of 13 MP and an f/2.2 aperture. It can shoot video in Full HD format. The camera pixel size is 1.12 microns. Here are some pictures taken with the main camera:

When shooting video, it is noticeable that autofocus does not have time to quickly focus on objects when the camera moves. The Camera application adds geotags, a panorama, a timer, and a voice control function.

The front camera has a resolution of 5 MP and an aperture of f/2.4. It also shoots videos in Full HD resolution. Instead of flash, when taking a selfie, the smartphone turns the screen white, thereby illuminating the face.

Connection

To connect the smartphone with the outside world, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and micro USB 2.0 are used. The wireless connection comes with support for Wi-Fi Direct and hotspot, that is, X Power is able to connect to other devices using Wi-Fi without the use of routers.

We also note support for USB On-The-Go, which means that the smartphone can act as a charger for other devices and you can connect flash drives to it if you have the appropriate cord.

The device also plays FM radio, has an accelerometer, proximity sensor and compass. For orientation on the ground there is A-GPS. It supports two nano SIM cards and works on 2G, 3G and 4G networks.

Sound

X Power is great for making calls. You hear the subscriber well, and he at the other end of the line hears you well. The speaker volume is sufficient. As for the main speaker, it is of average quality. The sound volume is generally not bad, but the playback quality is not the best. Another disadvantage is that if the smartphone is placed on the table with the display facing up, the audibility of the melody drops significantly. However, the sound quality in the headphones is good.

operating system

The X Power runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system with LG's user interface on top. The proprietary shell is quite simple and looks more like pure Android. There are only a couple of pre-installed applications from the manufacturer, and they mainly concern creating backups and managing battery consumption. Alas, there is not even a Gallery and Music, which many users liked. The menu of all applications was also removed, and now programs are scattered across desktops and folders.

The device is unlocked with a double tap. Other added bonuses include the ability to customize the size and appearance of icons. Also, the user interface of the South Korean giant has a multi-window mode. On the Home screen, open an application, adjust its size and position on the screen, and then open another application.

Individual characteristics

The navigation keys in X Power are located on the display itself and are fully customizable: just find the “Display” item in the settings, and then select “Touch button combination”. You can simultaneously set five keys, choose their purpose and order. The smartphone has an event indicator that lights up when there are unread notifications. For some this will be an important fact. The multi-window mode can also be considered a feature. And of course, autonomy is the main difference between a smartphone.

Pros and cons of LG X Power

  • good battery life;
  • an operating system that allows you to completely customize your smartphone;
  • good display;
  • unique design (if you don’t take into account X style);
  • high-quality music playback in headphones.
  • hybrid SIM card slot;
  • there is a lot of noise in photographs taken in low light;
  • Automatic brightness adjustment does not work quite correctly.

Alternatives

Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime for a similar price has a battery of the same capacity. But in its favor are higher screen resolution (Full HD) and almost twice as high performance (in the AnTuTu test it scores about 62 thousand points). For some, a fingerprint scanner may play a role. But it has a 5-inch display and actual battery life is shorter.

The Asus Zenfone 3 Max costs just over $190 and also has a large 4,130 mAh battery. Battery life is comparable to X Power. Its advantages include a metal body, a fingerprint scanner and slightly better performance. In the AnTuTu test, he managed to score a little more than 40 thousand points.

Our review of the LG X Power

LG X Power is an excellent device for those who do not like to constantly monitor the charge level of their smartphone. Weighing only 139 grams, the device will work on one charge for two days. Let's also add here a simple but attractive design, an operating system with many settings, a good display and processor. On the one hand, the display resolution is low, but on the other hand, this allows the not very productive chip to cope with all everyday tasks. In general, the model under review is a fairly balanced middling product that deserves the attention of consumers.

ZUK Z1: review of the first smartphone from Lenovo under the ZUK brand

This year, the company quite unexpectedly announced a new line of X smartphones. It includes models from the lower price category to almost flagships, some offering unique features borrowed from the company's most expensive smartphones. The first representatives of the series were the X Screen, which has an auxiliary screen, like the one, and the LG X Cam with a dual camera at the back. Next, the second wave of devices was announced, which included , X Style, X Max and X Mach.

Now we will look at the most productive among them - LG X Mach. Built from humble materials, it's powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 1.55nm camera, and a 1440 x 2560 screen resolution. It's almost a flagship, cheaper than the LG G5, but still plenty fast. .

LG X Mach Design

Speed is the main strong feature of this smartphone, in contrast to the appearance, which by modern standards cannot be called premium. It is made mostly of plastic, with a metal frame around the edges. At the same time, it is convenient to work with one hand, despite the 5.5-inch screen, due to the compact body and non-slip back surface.

The power and volume buttons on the X Mach are located on the back below the camera, which allows you to operate them with your index finger when the device is in your hand, but not when it is lying on the table. Owners of expensive LG smartphones in recent years have probably already decided whether they like this button arrangement or not.

A fingerprint scanner is built into the power button. It looks, feels and works like the LG V10 - a small round button that is quite wobbly. It can unlock the device when the user touches the sensor with the right finger, and when pressed, the screen turns off.

The design can be praised for its ergonomics and convenience, which is not hampered by the large 5.5-inch screen.

Screen

The resolution of this screen is 1440 x 2560 pixels. This gives a very sharp image with a pixel density of 534 ppi. It is impossible to see individual points.

There are problems with color accuracy; colors look oversaturated. The screen has a cool bluish tint, although not too irritating. You can get used to it pretty quickly.

The display brightness is 369 nits. It is not very comfortable to look at it in direct sunlight, nor is it comfortable to photograph it. You can make calls and correspondence, but preferably in the shadows. The minimum brightness is 3 nits, which is enough not to strain your eyes in the dark.

LG X Mach interface

The LG UX shell can be called satisfactory. It looks and feels the same as the flagship. To unleash the capabilities of the 5.5-inch screen, there is a Dual Window function that allows you to open two applications at the same time.

The interface works quickly and smoothly, delighting with animation and colors. Apps like Clock and Calendar are designed to a high standard, and the same applies to the dialer, although the space could be used more efficiently. Among the problems are a distorted settings section and a couple of bugs that spoil the impression, but are not a big drawback.

As for unlocking with the fingerprint sensor, it works quickly, but sometimes errors occur - one fingerprint is taken as a sample after 7 finger scans, so some corners may go unnoticed. In this case, you will have to lift your finger and press it again, which will take less than a second.

In general, there are a couple of complaints about the interface, and if you need extensive functionality, you shouldn’t expect it here. The system can be called a pure version of Android with LG's shell on top of it.

There is also a problem with vibration. The test used a pre-sale version of the smartphone, so the problem may be fixed in retail copies. Inside the case there is a vibration engine that can be turned off during calls, messages and the alarm clock. However, you cannot set the keys to vibrate when you press them or the navigation buttons. We can only hope that this flaw will be corrected in software updates.

Processor and memory

The X Mach uses last year's 6-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, which was also used in and. When navigating through the interface, opening applications and switching between them, they behave approximately like in V10 - smoothly and without slowdowns. The amount of RAM is 3 GB, which does not reach the 2016 flagship standard of 4 GB, but still allows you to keep enough loaded processes in memory.

Games may experience performance issues. Testing was carried out in the demanding Hitman Sniper, Vainglory with rich graphics, Angry Birds Transformers with explosions and physics, Lara Croft Temple Run. Playability was good, although the frame rate dropped in some places, and lighter and more optimized games (Vainglory) had no problems at all. For demanding games, it is better to choose low or medium graphics settings.

The volume of built-in flash memory is 32 GB, of which about 23 GB is available to the user, there is a slot for a microSD memory card with a capacity of up to 256 GB.

Internet and communications

The device does not come with LG's browser pre-installed, as most people prefer to use Chrome, which is always available on Android devices. Heavy sites open quickly, and the large screen makes working with them easier.

LTE-A Category 9 (450/50 Mbps) NFC, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11 a, b, g, n, ac standards are supported.

Camera

The LG X Mach's unassuming exterior hides not only powerful components, but also an impressive rear camera. It has a resolution of 12.3 megapixels and a pixel size of 1.55 nm, large enough for smartphone cameras, with an aperture of F2.0. On the front there is an 8 megapixel camera, which on paper is also not bad.

The camera app is a stripped down version of the LG G5. There are no Manual and Simple modes, only Auto. There are Slow-mo, Dual (picture-in-picture with front camera activated), Panorama and Time-lapse modes, HDR is supported. Instead of a flash, the screen lights up when the front camera is working.

Photo colors are accurate for the most part, with a high level of detail and good balance in fast-moving scenes. Sometimes the sharpening is too high, but this is a minimal problem. In daylight, getting good photos is easy, although sometimes the camera gets the exposure wrong or puts the wrong subject in focus, so patience is required.

HDR does its job well, offering an almost natural dynamic balance. When activating HDR, you need to hold the device level for a longer time; there is a lack of optical image stabilization, and sometimes photos can turn out blurry.

You can take good photos in low light thanks to the pixel size. You will need to make sure that the trick worked as it should, as problems may arise here. Images may contain some noise.

The video recording was not too impressive. The camera has difficulty maintaining focus for a long time, which is not a problem when taking photographs, but the requirements for video are different. The exposure is also not very stable. The sound when recording videos is normal, but lacks depth.

The front camera leaves much to be desired. Her focus also doesn’t work the best and often the focus is not what is needed. The colors here are less saturated, and as the lighting level drops, the quality of the photos also drops.

Multimedia

For audio playback there is a regular player with a built-in equalizer and FM radio. The phone speaker is not the best choice for long-term listening for the same reason as the lack of sound depth. It is better suited for calls, notifications and alarms, rather than music.

We tested a variety of video formats, most of which did not cause problems for the smartphone, although it was unable to properly read a DivX file and did not recognize MOV. The specifications say that it is best to work with MPEG4, H.263, H.264 formats.

Call quality

There are no problems with this aspect of the smartphone’s operation; the interlocutor’s voice is heard loudly and clearly, and he hears the speaker in the same way.

Battery

After the good performance and camera, there was hope that the battery life would not let us down. Alas, like many LG models, this one could not even provide 6 hours of work with a web script. This means an average result compared to competitors.

This is enough for the average user to have enough charge from morning to evening when periodically watching videos on YouTube, reading in the browser, chatting, making calls and taking photographs. The Power Saving energy saving mode helps. The battery is removable, so you can buy an additional one.

Conclusion

The LG X Mach can be seen as a redesigned G4 flagship with almost the same components inside plus a fingerprint sensor and the new LG UX interface. There are no premium materials here, but regular plastic will do for some.

LG has not yet announced the price, so it is impossible to know which smartphones to compare this model with. It can be recommended for purchase at a price of $400, but not more than $450, where it is better to give preference to the LG V10.

Pros

  • Performance and interface
  • Ergonomic design
  • Camera
Cons
  • A number of bugs in the interface
  • Simplicity of design
  • Camera Focus and Exposure
  • Autonomy

Today we will take a look at two smartphones from LG, the X Style and X Power models. At first glance, these are twin brothers, differing only in screen diagonal, but in fact they turned out to be very different, so we have something to talk about.

Design

X Style and X Power are inexpensive smartphones in plastic cases. Both feel thin and light for their size, although the width and height of the cases can hardly be called optimal - it’s rare that a budget smartphone boasts thin screen bezels.

The smartphones look almost the same - the contours of the body and the unusual curves of the side frame that imitate metal are the same, but they feel a little differently.

LG X Style

The point, as always, is in the details - the X Style fits a little more comfortably in the hand due to its smaller size, but the back is glossy and instantly becomes covered with fingerprints, which are gradually complemented by scratches and abrasions. The frame is made of silver, but it can easily be seen as plastic.

Therefore, X Power, in my opinion, has a more advantageous appearance - the matte cover with a barely perceptible relief pattern is more pleasant and practical, and the side frame is more reminiscent of painted metal.

The layout of the controls on smartphones is classic - the power key is located on the right under the thumb, and the volume key is placed on the left. MicroUSB and 3.5 mm connectors are on the bottom edge.

LG X Power is made in a non-separable case; on the left there is a hybrid tray for two NanoSIM or SIM cards and a memory card.

LG X Style has a collapsible design - under the removable cover there is a removable battery, which will only have to be removed to install the second NanoSIM. The model has separate slots for two NanoSIM and MicroSD.

Despite the simple materials, both smartphones are well assembled, the cases do not creak when squeezed or twisted, except that I would like to see the physical keys a little more protruding, so that they would be easier to distinguish blindly.

Screens

Smartphones received screens based on IPS matrices with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels, without an air gap. The display diagonal of X Style is 5 inches, X Power is 5.3 inches.

LG X Style

The brightness of the LG X Style screen varies from 3 to 279 cd/m², the measured contrast is 1 to 670. The color accuracy of the display, to put it mildly, is far from ideal. The color gamut is much smaller than the sRGB space, the temperature is low, and the gamma curve is not linear. Simply put, the screen simply cannot display some of the desired shades, and the rest are reproduced with noticeable distortion.

The image looks warm, whites turn yellowish-green, and colors lack saturation compared to normal IPS matrices. The screen can only be justified by the normal operation of the sensor and acceptable readability in the sun.

The X Power display has the problems of the younger model, but they are less pronounced. The brightness varies from 2 to 270 cd/m², the contrast is 1 in 916. The color gamut is narrower than the sRGB space, and the temperature is too high, while the rest of the indicators are linear - this is good.

It turns out that the general nature of color rendition is comparable, but due to greater contrast and a more normal color temperature, the image looks better, although it does not live up to its competitors.

LG X Style (left) and X Power (right)

Both devices have an automatic brightness adjustment sensor, which has not previously been seen in non-flagship LG devices, but its operation is far from ideal - it would not be possible to build it in.

Platforms and Performance

Different hardware platforms are another distinctive feature of the models. Style is built on Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 (4 x Cortex-A7 up to 1.3 GHz + Adreno 304 GPU), equipped with 1.5 GB of RAM and 16 GB of permanent memory, the volume of which can be expanded using microSD cards.

LG X Style

The LG X Power has more interesting hardware - it is MediaTek MT6735 (4 x Cortex-A53 up to 1.3 GHz + Mali-T720 GPU), 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of ROM, the volume of which is expanded only if you refuse to use the second SIM.

Smartphones demonstrate the results expected for the platforms they use in benchmarks, but they do not perform very predictably. This mainly applies to the X Style model - some benchmarks on the device simply did not start or were closed, and ordinary programs worked with huge delays, took a long time to load, load data, periodically the smartphone had to be rebooted for it to start working somehow.

Against its background, the X Power looks like perhaps the best smartphone in the world - it has a predicted almost comfortable operating speed, in addition to social network clients, you can even install casual games with which there will be no problems.

The smartphones also have common features - both run on Android 6.0 with the proprietary LG UX interface, which supports turning on the screen by double tapping, offers a good keyboard, a fairly convenient scheme for working with two SIMs and the ability to customize the location of the on-screen keys.

Another common feature is good operating time. The removable battery of the X Style with a capacity of 2100 mAh is capable of providing a day and a half of work on one charge due to the weak performance of the platform, and the non-removable battery of 4100 mAh in the X Power easily allows you not to charge the smartphone for at least two days.

The speakers of smartphones deserve the “average” characteristics - they are suitable for playing a call tone, but not for listening to music (Style sounds less pleasant). Conversational speakers are normal.

Cameras

The photographic capabilities of the devices can be considered comparable, although they are equipped with different modules. The LG X Power has a main camera of 13 megapixels and a front camera of 5 megapixels. LG X Style boasts a more modest 8 MP main camera and a 5 MP front camera.

Taking into account the price and general equipment of smartphones, both modules take pictures of predicted average quality; the cameras do not shoot very quickly. I liked the photos taken with the LG X Style even a little more, despite the lower resolution of the module.

Conclusion: LG X Style and X Power can hardly be called the optimal smartphones in their segments - both have plenty of more interesting competitors, primarily from Lenovo, Moto, and budget Samsung devices (even without mentioning Xiaomi, Meizu and other Chinese brands). At the same time, the existence of X Power can still be somehow justified - the smartphone turned out to be functional and durable, so buyers will be at least somewhat satisfied. But the LG X Style only raises questions - too expensive, too buggy, why did the company even release it to the market?

LG has released a whole line of X smartphones that are not flagships, but each of them has its own characteristic feature. X cam - a dual rear camera, X style - a thin body, X view - an additional screen, and X power - a large battery, with a relatively small screen with HD resolution, which (theoretically) will allow the smartphone to work for a really long time on a single charge.

What is this?

LG X power - Android smartphone with a 5.3-inch IPS display 1280x720, 64-bit quad-core MediaTek MT6735 processor, 2 GB of RAM, dual SIM support, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and a large 4100 mAh battery.

What does it look like?

Despite the impressive battery, the smartphone turned out to be quite compact and light. Largely thanks to the plastic body and relatively small screen. The smartphone is available in white, gold and dark blue colors. The blue version looks quite restrained and neat. On the front panel (in addition to the screen), there is an LG logo at the bottom of the case, a set of sensors, a front camera and an LED indicator at the top. The case has small bevels at the top and bottom of the front panel. The screen is protected by 3rd generation Gorilla Glass, on top of which a protective film is glued from the factory. It's cheap, but it's better than nothing, and it won't be a shame to remove or replace it.

The back cover is not removable; the card tray is located on the left side. There is also a volume rocker on it:

You can insert either 2 nanoSIM cards or one plus MicroSD up to 32 GB into the tray:

Along the perimeter of the case there is a decorative frame made of glossy plastic. An additional microphone is located at the top end of the smartphone:

On the right side is the power button:

Bottom - MicroUSB connector, microphone for calls and 3.5 mm headphone jack:

The back panel is made of embossed dark blue practical plastic, which practically does not show fingerprints. In the middle of the back panel is the LG logo. On top is a camera with a single LED flash and an external speaker on the bottom. A typical and not very practical speaker placement, which is typical for mid- and budget-priced smartphones. On the table it is significantly dampened:

The smartphone looks calm and reserved. There are no special complaints about the quality of materials and workmanship, especially considering the positioning. Plastic is like plastic, and thanks to the non-removable lid, there’s nothing to wobble or creak.

How good is the screen?

LG X power is equipped with a relatively compact (by modern standards) 5.3-inch screen with a resolution of 1280x720, which gives a pixel density of 277 ppi. It’s quite normal for such a diagonal, and it also has a positive effect on energy consumption. As already written above, a protective film was pasted from the factory. Its advantage is that the screen remains intact, the disadvantage is its quality. It immediately becomes covered with very noticeable scratches out of the blue. The maximum brightness is low and the display becomes difficult to read in the sun, but color rendition is not bad.

Viewing angles are maximum, which is expected for modern IPS screens without an air gap:

Multi-touch up to 10 touches supported:

As expected, the maximum brightness is really low: only 255.957 cd/m2, black field brightness is 0.29 cd/m2 and the contrast is at a good level: 883:1, although it would be wrong to judge by an engineering sample, so it’s worth looking at the final version. There are no utilities for adjusting color temperature; there is only a reading mode that makes colors warmer. For its class, the screen is well calibrated, although the usual inaccuracies in color reproduction and color gamut are present:

Comparison with other models:

Device nameWhite field brightness,

The brightness of the black field,

How are things going with performance, memory and autonomy?

The smartphone has budget hardware: a quad-core 64-bit processor MediaTek MT6735 with a maximum frequency of 1.3 GHz, 2 GB about RAM, built-in - 16 GB, memory cards up to 32 GB are supported, but you will need to limit yourself to one SIM card. Just over 10 GB is available out of the box. This hardware is enough for the smooth operation of the interface and applications. The system is not very good for games. Some games (for example, NBA and NFS: No Limits) run fine, although not at maximum settings. In Unkilled, FPS drops noticeably:

The smartphone has Wi-Fi b/g/n (2.4 GHz only) and Bluetooth 4.2 and radio. Minimum required. The GPS module works quickly, a cold start takes no more than 15 seconds:

The main feature of the smartphone is its large 4100 mAh battery. Together with fairly economical hardware, it is able to provide truly impressive battery life. In a very intensive mode, the smartphone works for 2 full days without recharging, in a more gentle mode - without any problems it turns out to be 3 days. So, as a “workhorse”, the smartphone will show itself at its best. The proprietary charger charges the smartphone in about 2 hours, plus there is support for charging other devices via an OTG cable, which can be very useful.

For those who want to know more

64-bit quad-core processor systemMediaTek MT6735 (4 ARM Cortex-A53 cores at 1.3 GHz) with graphics accelerator Mali-T720 and 2 GB of RAM, as expected, produces rather low results in synthetic tests, although the main thing is that the interface and applications work without problems. For lovers of numbers:

Is the interface user-friendly?

Out of the box, LG X power runs on the current version of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS with its own shell, which does not radically change the “native” interface, but adds a number of useful and convenient functions. At the same time, it looks easy and unobtrusive (and works quickly).

As usual, most application icons have been redrawn to match their own style. LG does not limit users to desktop options without a separate application menu, as Chinese manufacturers often do. There is such an option.

But there are also two options with a separate menu of installed applications. Simplified and standard:

This is configured in a separate settings item:

The top curtain is as close as possible to the original one from Android Marshmallow. You can customize the display and order of icons and remove (or hide) brightness and volume controls:

There is a traditional LG option for customizing touch buttons; there can be up to five of them. In particular, you can remove the curtain button, screenshot, SIM card management and QSlide:

QSlide - a useful thing that allows you to open some applications in windowed mode:

The settings menu is sorted into separate groups:

And a set of standard applications as interpreted by LG:

Is the camera good?

LG also redrew the camera interface. And it also turned out to be simple and intuitive. There are buttons for taking photos and videos (without the need for additional settings of modes), viewing previous captured frames, buttons for sharing to social networks and cloud storage, and different shooting modes. You can set up shooting based on hand gestures and use the screen as a backlight for selfies:

The smartphone has 13 and 5 megapixel cameras. This is not a camera phone, so don't expect stellar quality, but in normal lighting you can get decent photos. In poor lighting the task becomes much more difficult and the pictures become quite grainy:

The smartphone shoots video in FullHD

Bottom line

LG X power is worth a look for users who are looking for an inexpensive smartphone with a large battery, long battery life and a simple, intuitive interface that works quickly. This - a “workhorse” for those who are not interested in mobile games and the quality of the main camera is not too important, but the emphasis is on not worrying about how not to forget or where to recharge the phone at the end of the working day. Of course, the main audience - those who still do not trust numerous Chinese manufacturers who can offer more technically advanced models for the same money.

4 reasons to buy LG X power:

  • compact and convenient body;
  • large battery with long operating time;
  • fast charging and support for charging other devices;
  • Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with a light and fast shell.

2 reasons not to buy LG X power:

  • weak iron;
  • mediocre camera quality.

We know LG smartphones from the G series. These are the company's flagships, which have proven themselves well. Today we are reviewing a representative of the X line, which includes several models: Cam, Style and Power. As part of this line, Cam received a dual camera, Style - a thin body and a smaller diagonal, and Power - a larger battery. It’s the latter that we’ll talk about today.

LG X Power is a mid-budget smartphone with extended battery life. As usual, let’s briefly go through the characteristics:

Display IPS, 16 million colors, capacitive
Display diagonal 5.3 inches
Display resolution 1280x720
operating system Android 6.0 (Marshmallow)
CPU Mediatek MT6735
Video accelerator Mali-T720
RAM capacity 2 GB
Volume of permanent memory 16 GB
Memory card slot Yes, up to 256 GB, combined with a second SIM card slot

5 MP

Number of SIM cards 2, nanoSIM
Interfaces GPS (A-GPS, GLONASS), Bluetooth v4.2 LE, microUSB, 3.5 mm jack, FM radio

Battery 4100 mAh, non-removable
Weight 139 g
Dimensions 149 x 75 x 7.9 g
Colors Gold, white, indigo

As you can see, nothing special is visible at first glance except a capacious battery and light weight. Well, let's see what he's like at work.

Box and accessories

The device comes in a fairly standard box with the name of the smartphone on top. Inside there is already the usual standard equipment for this category of smartphones: the smartphone itself, cable, charger, extractor clip and manual.

Frame

The smartphone body is made of aluminum. This is a solid monoblock without any backlash or creaks. It fits perfectly in the hand, no complaints.

Screen

The screen of the device is not amazing - the resolution is only 1280x720 pixels, which is not enough for a 5.3-inch smartphone. It is made using IPS technology and covered with a third-generation Gorilla Glass protective screen. The colors are bright and rich.

operating system

The Android 6.0 operating system is installed on board the smartphone. Russian language, of course, is supported. No lags or delays in animation were noticed.

Processor and memory

The device has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of permanent memory. If the RAM is enough to run most applications, then the permanent memory is still not enough. A microSD card, a slot for which is prudently installed in the smartphone, will help solve the problem, but in this case you lose the opportunity to install a second SIM card. In addition, you can connect an external flash drive thanks to USB OTG.

The processor installed is far from the most powerful, frankly speaking, a little outdated - MTK6735. Yes, it will be enough for most applications (for example, the Youtube application opens and plays videos without problems), but you can forget about resource-intensive games. The AnTuTu test results confirm this.

Interfaces

The smartphone has the basic necessary interfaces: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Wi-Fi, unfortunately, is only supported in the 2.4 GHz band. There is also an FM radio, which will delight those who like to listen to their favorite FM station.

Unfortunately, charging and connection to the computer occurs using the microUSB connector. I would like the guys from LG to take an example from their Chinese comrades and make a Type-C connector even on such inexpensive models. It is unlikely to be expensive to produce, and it is much more convenient for everyday use.

Battery

The battery capacity gave this smartphone the name Power. It is an impressive 4100 mAh. With average smartphone use, this battery will last for 2 days. The battery is also fast charging: a full charging cycle will take less than 2 hours, according to the company.

Communication and sound

There are no complaints about the sound, the external and ear speakers are loud, the sound is clear. The sound in the headphones is also good.

The connection quality is decent. The smartphone supports LTE bands 7 and 20, which are the main ones in the Russian Federation. There is no support for band 38. This is quite strange, considering that LG in Russia is one of the key players in the smartphone market and is trying to supply the most adapted devices for our market. In general, this is not critical, but we leave a note.

Camera

The smartphone, like most of its brothers, is equipped with one front and one rear camera with LED flash.

The built-in camera app opens in full screen mode. There is a small set of settings, including filters. I liked the feature with the front camera: when you point it at your face and freeze for a couple of seconds, the camera takes pictures itself.

You can judge the quality of the camera from the photographs below:

With sufficient lighting, the smartphone takes good pictures for its level, but in twilight and darkness pronounced noise appears. The front camera works at 4 minus.

Results

LG's smartphone turned out to be quite a compromise. The rather outdated processor and low-resolution screen are compensated by a large battery, light weight, durable body and the ability to work with two SIM cards. There are also interesting software solutions, such as an automatically detecting face and taking photographs of the front camera. For the money they ask for it, it is not the strongest competitor to uncertified devices from Chinese companies (Xiaomi, Meizu and others) - certification of devices in the Russian Federation is quite expensive. However, if you prefer only products with the PCT mark and branded support and warranty throughout Russia, then a smartphone will be a good choice. In addition, there is a small bonus from LG - 100 GB in Google Drive for 2 years.

THANK YOU so much for the very useful information in the article. Everything is presented very clearly. It feels like a lot of work has been done to analyze the operation of the eBay store

    • Thank you and other regular readers of my blog. Without you, I would not have been motivated enough to dedicate much time to maintaining this site. My brain is structured this way: I like to dig deep, systematize scattered data, try things that no one has done before or looked at from this angle. It’s a pity that our compatriots have no time for shopping on eBay because of the crisis in Russia. They buy from Aliexpress from China, since goods there are much cheaper (often at the expense of quality). But online auctions eBay, Amazon, ETSY will easily give the Chinese a head start in the range of branded items, vintage items, handmade items and various ethnic goods.

What is valuable in your articles is your personal attitude and analysis of the topic. Don't give up this blog, I come here often. There should be a lot of us like that. Email me I recently received an email with an offer that they would teach me how to trade on Amazon and eBay. And I remembered your detailed articles about these trades. area I re-read everything again and concluded that the courses are a scam. I haven't bought anything on eBay yet. I am not from Russia, but from Kazakhstan (Almaty). But we also don’t need any extra expenses yet. I wish you good luck and stay safe in Asia.

  • It’s also nice that eBay’s attempts to Russify the interface for users from Russia and the CIS countries have begun to bear fruit. After all, the overwhelming majority of citizens of the countries of the former USSR do not have strong knowledge of foreign languages. No more than 5% of the population speak English. There are more among young people. Therefore, at least the interface is in Russian - this is a big help for online shopping on this trading platform. eBay did not follow the path of its Chinese counterpart Aliexpress, where a machine (very clumsy and incomprehensible, sometimes causing laughter) translation of product descriptions is performed. I hope that at a more advanced stage of development of artificial intelligence, high-quality machine translation from any language to any in a matter of seconds will become a reality. So far we have this (the profile of one of the sellers on eBay with a Russian interface, but an English description):
