An expensive watch is not only a functional accessory or a beautiful decoration. It is also an attribute of a successful person, an indicator of his financial solvency. Naturally, such an item needs special care. This applies, first of all, to choosing a place to store your wristwatch.

How and where should it be stored?

For expensive, rare models or items of jewelry value, many different storage devices are offered today.

Caskets

The most common option. There is probably a wooden, metal, plastic, stone box in every home. Jewelry or valuables are stored there. You can also store chronometers there.

Time movers and winders

These are also unique boxes for storing automatic watches. Such storage will perfectly protect the accessory from moisture, dust, and mechanical damage. In addition, this device is a special rotating bowl, the vibrations of which very accurately imitate the movements of the hand of a walking person. Time movers usually have a glass door through which you can observe the pendulum oscillations of the chronometer.

The watch in such a device is always ready for work and has almost maximum charge. Constant movement is necessary for mechanical models, otherwise their mechanism ceases to function normally.

Safe and safe bag for transportation

An ideal place to store valuable items whose cost or aesthetic value does not allow them to be kept in the public domain. Outwardly, they have nothing in common with the usual bulky code boxes. They rather resemble unusual interior details, so it is not so easy for an uninitiated visitor to the room to notice them.

Such safes are equipped with combination locks, special sensors that allow you to “remember” fingerprints, a GPS system, automatic winding and other functions.

For storing chronometers, you can choose less exotic options. The main thing is to follow simple recommendations:

  • Do not store accessories with quartz movements near sources of electromagnetic waves. This could be a mobile phone, radio, walkie-talkie or other item;
  • Protect the watch from moisture, dust, mechanical damage (scratches, impacts). This will greatly extend their service life;
  • It is recommended to choose a permanent place to store the chronometer. This could be a special stand for an outdoor watch, a small box, a stand, a holder or a miniature hanger. The accessory should always be at hand.

To store your collection, you can purchase special boxes or safes with several compartments. General storage will not harm the watch mechanism in any way, especially since there is a special compartment in the box for each piece.

Holders

Today they are presented in a huge assortment and allow you to perform 2 functions at once: a place to store an accessory and an element of interior decor.

  • Foam pads covered with satin, silk or other beautiful fabric. They allow you to place your watch neatly and beautifully so that it remains in front of your eyes all the time.
  • Multi-level rollers covered with velvet. This product is used to store and display jewelry, bracelets, chains and watches.

  • Vertical stand. This option is most often used in stores. In combination with soft lighting, the watch looks as impressive as possible.
  • Stand in the form of a tablet. This product has a soft base and a rubberized backing.
  • Holders in the form of all kinds of figures. Interior little things that allow you to beautifully place your watch and take it at any convenient time.

In what position should a mechanical watch be stored?

It is best to store specimens with moving parts or particularly valuable models in special cases that are supplied by the manufacturing companies along with the purchase. As a rule, they are already equipped with everything necessary for reliable and safe storage.

Bracelet care

A leather or metal bracelet needs periodic cleaning to ensure that the watch retains its original shine and beauty for a long time.

The metal bracelet is easy to care for. It is enough to occasionally clean the links with soapy water and an old toothbrush.

One of the ways to clean a metal bracelet is shown in this video.

Skin requires more delicate and subtle care. Watches with a leather bracelet should be kept away from water, and if drops of moisture get on them, wipe them dry immediately.

It is not recommended to leave this watch in direct sunlight. The skin dries out, cracks, and changes color intensity. Such a bracelet should be cleaned using special products that can be purchased in the store along with the watch or taken to a workshop for professional cleaning.

When buying an expensive watch, you immediately need to look for an additional accessory to go with it. A watch stand will be required for proper storage.

Species

The holder keeps the watch intact, allows it to easily take the desired shape and not be scratched. As a rule, they are divided into several types:

  • the box is shaped like a box. It fits many accessories, and to prevent damage to the watch, there is a separate compartment for them. There are boxes with an additional invisible compartment in which you can easily hide accessories dear to your heart;
  • a special hanger is attached to the base, and on the handles themselves there is a clock. It can be hung on the wall or simply left on the table. The use of the hanger is universal and is suitable for storing not only watches, but also bracelets, hairpins and jewelry;
  • stand – strengthening, which is located only on the table. It consists of rounded elongated bars and can easily accommodate a whole collection of chronometers. As a rule, the stand is covered with velvet - this allows you to fix accessories and maintain their integrity. But it is recommended to additionally glue the bars so that they do not fall from the holder;
  • multi-tiered stand has various shapes: round, square, elongated or arched. Each tier is located slightly higher than the other and has its own functions. The first one stores rings, earrings, small brooches, the second one stores pendants and necklaces, and the third one stores watches;
  • sculpture holder is a decorative addition with versatile functions. Can be in the form of a statue, a building or a glass goblet shape. There are special handles or recesses where you can hang or put your watch.

Color design

The holders are made of glass and metal, which is why neutral and calm shades are used, for example, gray, black and white. Watch owners prefer glass holders and forms without unnecessary details - they easily fit into any interior and room design. When choosing a stand you need to pay attention to:

  • color. It must match the interior. For the Provence style, cream shades and a slightly aged design are suitable. But if the room design is in modern or high-tech style, it is better to purchase glass holders without unnecessary additions;
  • form. It can be anything from round to abstract. Square tabletop and hanging specimens are considered the most stable;
  • additions– handles, fastenings, accessories. They are required for storing jewelry and watches. The stand is considered ideal if there are replaceable parts, then they can be easily replaced;
  • material. The choice is quite large - glass, metal, wood, plastic. In terms of quality and durability, wood and metal are considered the best.

How to make it yourself

For any watch, even a self-winding one, you can make a stand yourself. All you need is a little inspiration, a set of tools and a desire to create.

Made of wood

Refers to the decorative type of holders and decorates any interior. You will need:

  • tree branches of different lengths(moderate hardness and elasticity);
  • varnish;
  • small brush;
  • fast-drying adhesive;
  • wire;
  • sandpaper;
  • knife;
  • several hooks(needed to secure the holder to the wall).

  • At the first stage it is necessary to prepare wooden branches– use a knife to clean them from the bark, treat the top layer with sandpaper to make it soft and uniform. After this you need to let them dry.

  • The second stage is the formation of the skeleton future stand: twigs should be attached to the base (it should be straight, without unevenness) at a distance of 3 to 5 cm from each other. You need to apply glue to the places where they adhere and press each part tightly. It is better to use clothespins for this. Waiting time for drying is 3 hours.

  • At the third stage, varnish treatment is required– use a brush to paint the entire surface of the decorative holder in several layers and let dry.

  • The last stage is securing the branches with wire(covering several layers of base) and adding hooks for hanging on the wall.

Such a holder will not only please the eye and make the room more comfortable, but will also hold watches, hairpins, bracelets and brooches.

Retro style

If you have several bottles, a wooden box lying around the house, or a large number of old unnecessary things, then they can easily be used to create decorative masterpieces. Materials can be recycled to create a space in a romantic, Provençal, bohemian or even Scandinavian style. What is needed:

  • two small glass bottles;
  • wooden box(should be one third higher than the bottles);
  • varnish;
  • glue;
  • black paint;
  • tassel;
  • hooks or loops for fixing the shelf on the wall.

The box needs to be processed, clear away debris . Then decorate with patterns or special designations on the outside. To do this, use black paint and a small brush. Cover it with varnish and leave to dry for 2-3 hours. Make two holes on one side - a rope will be threaded through them. Next, place the bottle on the glue inside. It is advisable to place them close to each other so that there is free space. While the glue dries, you can place the beautiful holder on the wall.

Comfort and coziness in our home sometimes depends on even the smallest details and elements. Even most interior designers agree that the most important attributes for achieving comfort in the home are well-chosen curtains, original lamps, soft and, chosen in the right shade, rugs, pillows, bath mats and clocks.

This article will focus on a master class on how to decorate a clock at home yourself.

There are a large number of photos of watches on the Internet, most of them are made by famous designers, but making original watches at home is also not difficult.

There is, of course, one key and difficult point - installing a mechanism on the watch for its operation, but a ready-made mechanism should be bought in a store and installed according to the instructions. But the appearance of the future watch and its other design completely depends on personal preferences and tastes.

There are several modern techniques that help you make your own watches in any style.

Clock style decoupage

This technique of designing and creating a wall clock involves working with a ready-made store template, which already has a blank, the base of the hands and the finished mechanism. You can also purchase ready-made patterns on papers, special paints, glue and other decoupage elements.

The blank for the watch is made in this way: the base is coated with acrylic paint primer several times, and finally sanded. The desired shade and texture is given to the base in the next step.

There is one trick - if you want to make a watch in the old style with a tint that represents scuffs, then the paint must be applied with a sponge.

Decorating a wall clock with your own hands is a process of bringing out the imagination and creativity from a person. Special water stickers can be applied to the base. Or you can draw a preliminary sketch yourself and transfer it to the dial.

Afterwards, the finished mechanism and arrows with numbers are attached. After a series of actions, the clock you created with your own hands will come to life and give your home a special, original look.

Quilling style watch

Quilling is an arts and crafts process that involves working with straight strips of colored paper of varying widths. Such strips, as a rule, are twisted and glued to the surface, thereby creating the most varied designs and pictures.

To create a watch using this technique, it is best to take wood as the base of the watch, since quilling elements can be glued to it well.

The color scheme should be in harmony with the interior of the room. After all, a bright clock will look ugly in a room designed in a minimalist style. Therefore, the choice of shade is a key point in this matter.

Most often, multi-colored quilling elements are used to create flowers, insects, trees, animals, berries, and so on.

Plaster clock

Regular plaster tiles will serve well as a base for future watches.

Romantic and reverent natures will definitely find a large number of solutions for creating watches from this material.

Among professionals, such a tile is called a medallion. The mechanism of the future watch is attached to its back. To make the product look more elegant and discreet, you should cover its surface with matte paint in light colors.

And, if you want some highlights, then glossy paint will do.

Pay attention!

This material is most suitable for creating a clock for the bedroom. At the same time, shades are chosen - beige, soft pink, pearl, coffee with milk, purple, and so on.

Clock using wooden sticks

In this situation, your arsenal should include such items as sticks and quality wood, good glue, scissors, and a ready-made working clock with a flat surface.

You should cut out many small sticks of the same size from wood, and then connect them

If the sticks are applied to the base in two layers, you can achieve a wonderful “explosion” effect, which looks luxurious and original.

Now you know how to make a clock at home. Handmade clocks are ideal for the kitchen, living room, and bedroom.

The Amur Jewelry workshop has begun work on creating a special shelf for antique watches!
The customer chose both the material and the carving design - “Grapevine”. We made a model of the shelf.
Now you need to prepare the material for making the shelf.

March 10, 2016

The workshop is working on creating a carved shelf for a clock.
What was done:

  • The lumber chosen was walnut.
  • The lumber is sawn into boards, then into slats.
  • The boards for the shelf are assembled.

To ensure that the shelf is level and does not twist or move, we cut the boards into slats of the required size. Then we glue the slats into panels, from which we will make a shelf.
We plan the shields and calibrate them using a surface planer.

Here are our prepared shields for the antique clock shelf! Now all this needs to be correctly cut and sawed out. Make a milled carving.

March 14, 2016

In our workshop we continue to work on creating a shelf for antique watches. The carved pattern chosen was grape.
We made a plywood template for the side elements of the carved shelf.
We cut out the side elements from the shields according to the template.
We prepared everything for carving - a shield for a grape pattern, sides with grape leaves.
Milled carving of a grape pattern is made.

For convenience, a plywood template for the sides is made:

We cut out the side elements of the shelf from the shields:

Sides for the shelf and shield for the grape pattern:

Now we have the carving of the side elements of the shelf:

Today the milling carving for the shelf was completed. Now it is necessary to refine the carving of the pattern manually.

Today the shelf was assembled (still a “raw” assembly - no threads or trimming).

The image of the shelf has already emerged, the corner of the shelf is too straight, so far we have outlined a smooth line along which it will be possible to smooth out the corners:

March 15, 2016

We continue to work on the watch shelf. At the moment, the carving of the side elements of the shelf is underway.

March 16, 2016

Work under the shelf continues.
The sides of the shelf are cut out. A grape pattern for the shelf is being carved with cutters.

Second side thread:

Shaped cutting of shelf corners:

Here's a shelf. Now carve the grape pattern onto the shelf using cutters:

March 17, 2016

Work on our shelf is ongoing.
Now the pattern of a grapevine with leaves for the shelf is being cut.
The side carved elements of the shelf were polished.

The sides are polished. Now we cut the grapevine, leaf by leaf:

March 18, 2016

Work on the shelf is progressing as planned.
The central vine was cut and sanded.
The side elements of the shelf have been cut.
The carved elements of the shelf - grapes - were drawn and cut out.

March 19, 2016

We are pleased to announce that the work on creating a wooden carved watch shelf has been completed!

We cut the shelf elements (grapes), sanded and painted.
The shelf itself was milled, sanded and painted.

Carving of carved decorative element of grapes. We sit him on wooden dowels with a ball at the end. We cut both grapes and dowels manually using cutters:

Here is our finished wooden shelf:

We paint the shelf, at the request of the customer, in a dark color. We cut loops onto the shelf:

Our next creative project is finished!
We are glad that you came into our creative workshop and observed the entire work process.
Come visit us again, we will be happy to share new news!
If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer on the pages of our website!

March 21, 2016

Today we sent the shelf to a new place of residence).
We will publish how to assemble the shelf right here.
We hope that our antique watch shelf will last as long as possible!

In order to assemble our shelf, you only need a screwdriver.

We screw in the screws so that the tips of 3 mm protrude from the back side of the side.

We position it at the end of the shelf, put the tips of the screws into the holes and screw it on. We cover the screw heads with our wonderful ball caps, which would be nice to put on PVA glue. Place a drop of glue into the holes (where the screw was driven in) and put a plug.

The shelf is ready for service!

Our workshop thanks its customers for their choice! We are glad to cooperate with everyone!
Come visit us in our creative workshop, we’ll make something!

    THANK YOU so much for the very useful information in the article. Everything is presented very clearly. It feels like a lot of work has been done to analyze the operation of the eBay store

    • Thank you and other regular readers of my blog. Without you, I would not be motivated enough to dedicate much time to maintaining this site. My brain is structured this way: I like to dig deep, systematize scattered data, try things that no one has done before or looked at from this angle. It’s a pity that our compatriots have no time for shopping on eBay because of the crisis in Russia. They buy from Aliexpress from China, since goods there are much cheaper (often at the expense of quality). But online auctions eBay, Amazon, ETSY will easily give the Chinese a head start in the range of branded items, vintage items, handmade items and various ethnic goods.

        What is valuable in your articles is your personal attitude and analysis of the topic. Don't give up this blog, I come here often. There should be a lot of us like that. Email me I recently received an email with an offer that they would teach me how to trade on Amazon and eBay. And I remembered your detailed articles about these trades. area I re-read everything again and concluded that the courses are a scam. I haven't bought anything on eBay yet. I am not from Russia, but from Kazakhstan (Almaty). But we also don’t need any extra expenses yet. I wish you good luck and stay safe in Asia.

  • It’s also nice that eBay’s attempts to Russify the interface for users from Russia and the CIS countries have begun to bear fruit. After all, the overwhelming majority of citizens of the countries of the former USSR do not have strong knowledge of foreign languages. No more than 5% of the population speak English. There are more among young people. Therefore, at least the interface is in Russian - this is a big help for online shopping on this trading platform. eBay did not follow the path of its Chinese counterpart Aliexpress, where a machine (very clumsy and incomprehensible, sometimes causing laughter) translation of product descriptions is performed. I hope that at a more advanced stage of development of artificial intelligence, high-quality machine translation from any language to any in a matter of seconds will become a reality. So far we have this (the profile of one of the sellers on eBay with a Russian interface, but an English description):
