When decorating the interior of an apartment, every detail, every little thing is important. One unfortunate touch can ruin the entire appearance, and often such a factor is curtain rods that do not match the overall design of the room. Making this piece of furniture to order is quite an expensive pleasure.

Therefore, it is not surprising that many owners prefer to make curtain rods with their own hands, since today there are more than enough consumables for them. You can purchase components for the cornice and simply assemble the necessary structure that is suitable in size and appearance. Or you can make a product almost from scratch.

The main types of curtain rods

There are several characteristics by which curtain rods can be classified: by type, material of manufacture, installation location and number of rows:

Cornices can be either wall or ceiling. If previously, as a rule, the first option was used, recently more and more preference has been given to designs with ceiling mounting. This point is due to the fact that wall curtain rods are less reliable and often break over time under the weight of heavy curtains.

The division can also be carried out according to the number of rows required for curtains. Today, designers often use multilayer compositions on windows as a decorative element. Therefore, today you can often find cornices in several rows of various designs.

According to the type of design, there are:

  • The most common option is a string cornice. The essence of this design is that the curtains move along stretched strings, which are preferably hidden with a decorative strip.
  • The tubular cornice has also been used for quite a long time and is familiar to many since childhood. The two fasteners and the pipe inserted into them have only one qualitative drawback. Over time, the surface of the holder loses its smoothness and the rings on which the curtain is held begin to move poorly.

  • Baguette cornice is a more modern version of this piece of furniture. It is a profile with grooves, usually mounted on the ceiling, and in some cases on the wall.

In addition, curtain rods can be made from a variety of materials: wood, metal or plastic. And each raw material has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Metal curtain rod: a simple design of a complex design

Metal curtain rods are mainly used for heavy curtains and multi-row compositions. And this requires a rather complex design of the cornice. However, everything is not as difficult as it seems. It is not at all necessary to purchase an expensive metal curtain rod model. You just need to choose the right regular metal profile, buy hooks and attach the structure to the ceiling. In this case, the number of stripes in the profile should correspond to the number of intended rows of curtains. By the way, this option is perfect for Japanese-style curtains.

A tubular cornice can also be made from metal. As is clear, this will require an aluminum or stainless steel pipe of suitable diameter and brackets for its fastening. Or a metal rod, on which plugs are subsequently placed along the edges, for example, from wooden door handles.

Polyurethane cornice: design of non-standard window openings

Plastic curtain rods are best used for lightweight curtains, as this material is unlikely to be able to withstand too much load. The most common option is a tubular cornice, because it is quite easy to find material and brackets for it (for example, in a plumbing store). Similar products also include cornices made of polyurethane, a material that has higher performance characteristics than all other polymers:

  • Like any plastic, polyurethane is absolutely indifferent to water, so its use in rooms such as a bathtub or toilet is more than justified.

  • The material is also lightweight, increased strength (a cornice made from this raw material can withstand loads of up to 50 kg) and is resistant to high temperatures. Such properties allow you to use a polyurethane cornice in almost any conditions and easily attach it to a wide variety of bases, including plasterboard structures.
  • In order to install such a cornice, you only need a polyurethane profile and hooks hanging on it. At the same time, the high flexibility of the material allows it to be given absolutely any shape.

Most often, polyurethane cornices are used for curtains in the bathroom and for decorating windows in bay windows.

Curtain rod made of wood: a new look at familiar things

Today, antique-style decorative elements are increasingly returning to the interior. The curtain rod made of wood was no exception. As a rule, wood is used to create decorative strips for one type of structure.

It is quite easy to make such a product, and you can decorate it at your discretion:

  • A strip the length of a cornice and a width of approximately 15 cm is cut out of a sheet of laminated chipboard, which is subsequently painted or covered with a self-adhesive film of the color you like.
  • If a sheet of laminated chipboard does not allow cutting a strip of the required length, it can always be added. To do this, as a rule, thick PVA glue and furniture staples are used.
  • Attach the plank to the ceiling using metal corners. Inside the structure, as a rule, strings are installed in one or several rows.

Or you can use another option for a wooden cornice. To do this, you need to choose a suitable... stick. Sand it, sand it and insert it into wooden brackets, which, with some experience, you can also make yourself. As a result, you will receive an original cornice that no one else has!

Curtain rod made of plasterboard - an element of a modern interior

Making curtain rods from plasterboard is a more complex task than previous options. This will require some skill in working with building materials and tools. As a matter of fact, we will not even talk about the cornice itself, but about the niche in which you can install one of the models:

  • The design itself is a kind of box into which spotlights can be built in for additional lighting.
  • As a rule, a niche is made in the case of a suspended or suspended ceiling.

  • The main purpose of this design is to hide the cornice and the top of the curtains from prying eyes, so it is made along the width of the window opening or along the entire wall adjacent to it.

Please note that it is necessary to install such a niche for the cornice at the stage of manufacturing the ceiling itself, since subsequently performing such work is extremely difficult.

As you can see, there are quite enough options for making curtain rods with your own hands, both simple and more complex. All you have to do is show a little imagination and put in just a little effort and a new original piece of furniture will decorate your home!

It is difficult to imagine a modern home without curtains on the windows. Long or short, letting in light and creating a cozy twilight, heavy and almost weightless - curtains organically complement any interior. They are usually attached to cornices, which differ in design and material of manufacture. You can often find homemade curtain rods, especially in private village houses or country houses. Since the need to make a cornice with your own hands may also arise in a city apartment, it is better to know in advance what will be useful for this.

Wooden cornices are quite durable and are often decorated with rich carvings. They are made from pine, beech, oak and red trees.

Quality materials to get the job done

Available materials that can be used to make cornices: cuttings for garden tools, boards and their trimmings (for making sidewalls), parts of a metal pipe, leftover wire. Of course, plastic pipes are also suitable if their strength allows them to be used for such purposes.

You will also need:

  • nails;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • sandpaper or grinder;
  • saw;
  • roulette.

Cornice options

DIY wooden cornice diagram.

The simplest and fastest option is a fishing line (wire) stretched between nails. Above the window, at the required distance (equal to the width of the frame or slightly more), 2 nails are driven in. A fishing line is attached to one of them and stretched to the second, through which it is twisted. The curtain can be hung by threading a fishing line into a specially stitched “pocket” (the edge of the curtain is folded and stitched), or hung on any not too heavy clips or hooks.

There is another option for homemade cornices - a steel pipe or a piece of reinforcement. The edges of the pipe are treated with a grinder to get rid of unevenness. In addition, you can put tips on them, rubber is best, but plastic or wood will do. Next, rings with clips are put on the pipe, which secure the curtain.

Wooden cornice

You can’t ignore the most common option - a wooden cornice.

For light curtains, you can even use a processed tree branch (it will look very original). Add another 10 cm to the required length to attach the cornice. Any stick or branch needs to be sanded for smoothness. Then treat with varnish or wood paint.

Options 2 and 3 require wall mounting hardware. The easiest way is to use blanks cut from boards for this purpose.

The longest side is attached to the wall using self-tapping screws or special shelf mounts. The notch at the top serves as a support for the cornice. All corners can (sometimes even need to) be rounded - this way they will look prettier. The diameter and radius of the recess must correspond to the same parameters of the handle (sticks, pipes).

Attach the workpiece to the wall, insert the cornice into the grooves, and attach the curtains to it using rings, ties, and hooks.

These homemade products are very easy to make, and with the right amount of effort they look no worse than store-bought curtain rods. The costs of their production are minimal. A homemade cornice is ideal for a country house, dacha, or as a temporary accessory when renovating an apartment.

Is it possible to make a cornice for traditional or Japanese curtains with your own hands?

Some owners, when creating decor for window openings, prefer to construct a cornice with their own hands. This is due to several factors. Some do not trust the quality of finished products, others are not satisfied with their price. Someone needs a special model that cannot be found in the store, and ordering from a specialist is quite expensive. A variety of detailed master classes allows you to familiarize yourself with basic recommendations and carry out work at the proper level. Today, at home, you can make not only traditional string curtain rods, but also holders for Japanese curtains and plastic rod options.

How to make a traditional string cornice?

String or cable curtain rods are the cheapest option for attaching fabric curtains. Unfortunately, such a solution looks quite cheap, so it does not always fit into the interior. There is a simple way out of the situation - a decorative strip is made for the string base, which completely covers the functional part. The approach can be used both when installing a system and when improving an existing structure. The only difference is that with the first option, the entire system is first assembled and then mounted on the ceiling or wall. In the second option, work is carried out to manufacture a strip, which is simply mounted on top of an already existing, unaesthetic cornice.

To make the product, you will need a piece of laminated chipboard sheet of the required length, 10 to 15 cm wide, about 1.5 cm thick. The advantages of this material are that, if necessary, it can be shortened with a hacksaw or lengthened by fixing an additional part with glue and metal staples. It is worth considering that this can only be done if the part is used only for decorative purposes.

When a piece of the required size has been selected, work begins on its appearance. When using quality wood, beautiful carvings can be made. If you don’t want any complications, painting or varnishing will be enough.

Today there is a wide selection of decorative self-adhesive films that can radically transform the appearance of the cornice. Such elements are inexpensive, and as a result you can achieve a design similar to expensive wood or even metal.

At the last stage, the cornice itself is constructed. If necessary, a string base is fixed to it, after which two or three rectangular metal corners with holes for hanging on nails or screws are screwed. The location of the corners depends on the type of fastening of the product. When wall-mounted, it remains possible to remove the part if necessary.

The positive side of the method is its simplicity and the fact that with a decorative strip you can hide not only the ugly base of the cornice, but also visible defects in the wall. On the other hand, when approaching, strings are most often used, on which heavy curtains and multi-layer curtain structures cannot be hung.

Production of the simplest cornice from plastic pipes

For the kitchen or similar household premises, you can independently make a simple and original cornice from plastic pipes. It is ideal for lightweight curtains with rings, loops or eyelets. True, this solution is temporary, but it’s perfect for a summer residence.

To carry out the work, you will only need a few pipes (depending on the number of valves), special holders and accessories for fastening structures. You can use screws and a drill for high-quality fixation, which will leave holes in the frame, or liquid nails, which will not leave marks, but will not last so long.

The ideal curtain option for this curtain rod would be an hourglass design. It is very simple to make - you just need to secure the cornices on the upper and lower sections of the sash, stretch the fabric and pull it in the center.

This option can be called a job for the lazy: the whole process takes only a few minutes and does not require complex manipulations. You just need to cut the plastic pipes into pieces of the required length, attach the holders to the wall using screws or adhesive, and insert the pipes into them. When using glue, it is recommended to first supplement the fixation with regular tape, which is removed after the base has dried.

Creating a cornice for Japanese curtains and rules for its installation

The most difficult process in making homemade elements is assembling curtain rods for Japanese curtains. The best option is to purchase a finished product with all the guides to which you can make a curtain frame, but if you really want to, you can make a cornice yourself.

The very design of Japanese panels, consisting of stretched fabric sheets, will look attractive only if the guides are correctly installed, the grooves are rigidly fixed and there is no possibility of the elements scrolling around their axis. This is achieved through the use of quality materials and specific additional products.

The curtain rod for Japanese panel curtains can be plastic or aluminum. Each section is intended for a separate curtain and has a base for fixing Velcro, on which the fabric sheets are attached. If you make the design yourself, you can use double-sided fabric with Velcro on both sides. This will allow you to change the appearance of the room depending on your mood.

The master must think about the number of tracks in advance: installing additional parts in such systems is very problematic. There are basic elements that allow you to install not one, but several guides on one track, which will allow you to maintain a small width of the structure and significantly save free space.

A new, useful master class on our website. If you have the desire and opportunity, you will create a small masterpiece for your home with your own hands.

In my case, the wooden cornice serves as a decorative element with lighting. While working on the balcony, the task of lighting it arose at the design stage. It was necessary to provide a sufficient amount of light, and organize the light so that it was not harsh, tiring, and did not hit the eyes. This means that the light sources had to be hidden so that they could not be seen under any circumstances. The task was also to link the lighting with the concept of the project, so that the lighting would emphasize the style and create a cozy atmosphere for both relaxation and work. So it was decided to place the main light under the ceiling, on the side walls of the balcony. And in order to make the light comfortable in accordance with the requirements, it was decided to hide the lighting sources in a removable wooden cornice, made in the same style as the balcony design concept.

In order to save money, I decided to make a wooden cornice with my own hands from a defective pine board, which was driven by a “screw” due to the fact that it was sawn from raw material... By the way, check out our master class on. You will like it too.

Materials for making a wooden cornice with your own hands

  • wood hacksaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • drill 3.5 mm;
  • a piece of board 1.20 cm long and 10 cm wide;
  • a piece of thin plywood measuring 80/10 cm;
  • wood screws 30 mm. – 16 pieces, and four 35 mm screws. in order to secure the made element in place.

Finishing a homemade cornice

For our cornice we will need:

  • remnants of ceiling foam plinth;
  • trimming ceiling decorative borders;
  • a little putty, white paint, a brush... I also used gold paint to highlight the design - but this is in my specific case; to fit the element into the style.

And finally, we install our homemade wooden cornice in its rightful place, and admire the beauty created with our own hands!

To fix the panels of Japanese curtains, there are several options for the arrangement of parts, which provides a variety of decorative solutions, but can significantly complicate the work of a home craftsman. You need to think about how to manage the system in advance. If direct manual control is refused, a special cane is installed. If there is a need for electronics installation, it is recommended to turn to professionals. The slightest inaccuracy in the settings will lead to the fact that any movement of the panels will turn into a complex and painful process.

When producing cornices for Japanese curtains, you cannot use standard systems; in any case, you will have to purchase specific profiles. As practice shows, making such products yourself is not always cheaper than buying a ready-made model and having it professionally installed. It’s better to pay once than to later call specialists to dismantle the structure, adjust it and reinstall it.

Conclusion

Designing, creating and installing a homemade cornice is a labor-intensive process, but if all the rules are followed, the result of the work will exceed all expectations. Not every owner can boast of an original product in the decor of their home, so such touches are always highly valued.

Designers remind us that we shouldn’t focus only on the functional side of the issue. Thanks to the abundance of fittings, even the simplest product can be decorated in accordance with the basic style of the room and emphasize its uniqueness.

As for Japanese panel curtains, it is better to trust the craftsmen, especially since in the light of growing competition the cost of such work is no longer so high.

The tree is non-toxic and does not affect human health and does not contribute to allergies. One such element is a wooden cornice. Its main disadvantage is the high cost of the material and its processing. Therefore, many, trying to save money, make a cornice from wood with their own hands. Below is a brief description of how to make a simple curtain rod from wood with your own hands.

Everyone knows that the cornice is designed for attaching curtains, but not many know that there are several types of these products.

At the moment, they can be divided by design into the following types:

  1. Those that are attached to the wall (wall-mounted).
  2. Cornices with fastening to the ceiling.

The first version of cornices usually has a round cross-section. Round cornices are the most common and are sold everywhere. Less common is a wall-mounted curtain rod with a square-shaped section. Most of these products are made of plastic, the next most popular material is wood, and less often metal. At the same time, a wood-look cornice can also be made of plastic. Due to its specific shape, this type of cornice is called “baguette”.

Ceiling cornices are less popular, but they have their advantages.

These include:

  • They have a simpler design (which makes them cheaper), they are also easier to mount, and the mounts themselves are more reliable than wall-mounted ones.
  • Such curtain rods allow you to “hide” the runners and the top of the curtain. In this case, the ugly “technical” part of the curtain is hidden - the hem and loops for attaching to the runner.

It is worth noting that the easiest ones to make yourself are ceiling ones; they are also more practical. The wall mounted curtain rod has a more beautiful design.

Typically, all wall-mounted options are made two-row; the ceiling type can have 3 rows, but three rows are rarely used. It is quite difficult to make a double-row wooden wall-mounted cornice; this is primarily due to the complex fastening system, which must withstand the weight of the cornice and curtains. This is quite difficult to calculate; it is also problematic to produce fasteners and assemble the cornice. It will also be quite problematic to make double “baguettes”, but with the right approach all difficulties can be resolved.

Next, we give an example of making two versions of “baguettes”: ceiling and wall. In this case, we will consider how to make a double-row wooden cornice of only the ceiling type and a single-row wall-type cornice.

It should be noted that in order to make wooden cornices, any tree can be used - all species are suitable for these purposes.

DIY wooden cornice: wall-mounted option

This option is the most difficult to manufacture, since it requires the manufacture of a complex fastening system.

To make a cornice for curtains of this shape, you will need a round wooden beam for the guide (a section of about 3-5 cm in diameter is sufficient). The length of the beam should be sufficient to cover the window opening, and the beam should protrude beyond the window opening by approximately 15-30 cm on each side. So for a window opening 1 meter wide, you will need a guide beam 1.4 m long.

You will also need several round beams: about 5 cm in diameter and 8-10 cm in diameter.

The length of 5 cm of timber for fastening is calculated based on the number of fastening points and the distance between the window and the curtains.

Typically, the curtain is located at a distance of 10-15 cm from the window, and the distance between the fastenings should be no more than 0.6 m (horizontally). Accordingly, for a window opening 1 meter wide, 3 attachment points are required. Therefore, the amount of timber is calculated using the formula: number of points * distance from window to curtain = 3 * 15 = 45 cm. The digital value is given as an example and is not fundamental (if necessary, the number of fastening points and the distance can be increased).

A beam of larger diameter is used as an element into which the guide is inserted. To do this, the middle is cut out in it, turning a piece of timber into a ring. The width of such a ring should be 5-10 cm, the wall thickness 1.5-3 cm. To make a ring for a 3 cm guide, you will need a piece of timber 2 cm wide and a “ring” thickness of 1-1.5 cm, i.e. the initial beam for them should have a diameter of 7-8 cm. For a guide with a diameter of 5 cm, you will need a ring with a wall thickness of about 1.5-2 cm, respectively, the diameter of the beam should be 8-9 cm. A “mortar” for fastening is made from the same timber structures to the wall.

You will also need:

  1. Hacksaw;
  2. Jigsaw;
  3. Drill;
  4. Wood glue;
  5. Pencil or marker;
  6. Measuring instruments;
  7. Sandpaper.

The first step is to cut the wood into parts. To do this, the guide of the required length is cut, the blanks are cut into rings and legs, as well as a beam for fastening.

The next stage is material processing. All irregularities on the workpieces are removed using sandpaper, all wooden workpieces are impregnated with a water-repellent solution and primed. The guide can be immediately opened with varnish.

Next, make ring holders. To do this, take a workpiece of the required diameter, the width of which should be about 5-10 cm (depending on the diameter of the guide bar), then apply the guide bar to it and apply markings.

According to the markings, use a jigsaw to cut out the middle, leaving a ring with walls of the required thickness.

After this, holes should be made in the rings in the walls into which the fastening beam is inserted. To do this, mark the radius on the wall from the outside so that the hole is equidistant from the ends of the wall. This hole should be made carefully, as the wall may crack. To prevent this from happening, the perimeter of the applied circle is drilled out using a drill with a thin drill bit. This takes a long time, so you should be patient. After this, the workpiece is ready. It is varnished and left to dry.

The last difficult part is the “mortar”. It must ensure that the fastening beam enters it at least 5 cm. To do this, a blind hole is made in it equal to the diameter of the fastening beam. It should be varnished immediately after this.

After drying, it is attached to the wall using an anchor, which is screwed into the bottom of the drilled hole and passes through this element.

Important! The holes are not varnished!

When everything is ready, they begin to assemble the curtain rod. A fastening bar is inserted into the rings. It is attached to the ring using glue. When the glue has dried, use a jigsaw to cut off that part of the fastening beam that protrudes inside the ring. After this, the first ring is put on the guide, it is placed on glue so that the guide does not “walk”, then the rings for hanging curtains are put on, after which the next fastening ring is put on, etc. The finished structure is inserted into the hubs attached to the wall, the latter being generously lubricated with glue inside.

Ceiling cornice type: wood

Making such a curtain rod is much easier and faster.

This will require:

  • Wooden beam of rectangular section in the amount of 2 pieces;
  • Furniture corners;
  • Self-tapping screws;
  • Electric drill;
  • Hacksaw;
  • Marking tools;
  • Metal guides (commercially available).

The first step is to process the wooden beam. For production you should use timber 100x10, 100x20. Its length should be equal to the length of the window plus 40-50 cm (the cornice should protrude beyond the frame by 20-25 cm).

The resulting blanks in an amount of 2 pieces are treated with moisture-proof solutions and primed.

Next, they are connected so that the cross section forms the letter “G”. To do this, use self-tapping screws (they are screwed in along the entire length of the joint) and furniture corners (they give the structure strength). After this, the resulting structure is varnished and/or painted.

DIY cornice is a great way to show creativity and get an exclusive item to decorate your room. You can find many different models of curtain fasteners on sale, but a homemade item is always beyond competition. In addition, such a cornice will be made specifically for a specific room, taking into account all its features, which will allow it to fit perfectly into the interior. How to make such a useful thing? Let's figure it out.

There are many modifications of cornices. We will consider the simplest in embodiment options.

Design with decorative strip

Making such a cornice with your own hands is quite simple. You need to take the old string structure as a basis. In addition, we will need steel corners, self-adhesive film, laminated chipboard, paint, a circular saw, an angle grinder, a drill, a screwdriver, screws and self-tapping screws. Let's get started:

  • We start by making a decorative strip. To do this, use a circular saw to cut out a strip of the required length, about 15 cm wide, from a sheet of chipboard.
  • We decorate the detail. You can paint it in a suitable color or paste it over self-adhesive film. The coating must be applied in strict accordance with the instructions on its packaging. To ensure that there are no air bubbles left on the surface, smooth it with a rubber roller. We design the corners of the bar as follows: carefully cut the film from the front part of the crossbar along the line of continuation of the corner. Then we wrap the covering onto the back side of the plank and make a cut along the corner line from this side. Then we glue the narrow end of the film. We glue the remaining corners in the same way.
  • We are preparing to attach the cornice to the wall. It is assumed that the curtains will be fixed to regular string, suspended from the ceiling. Therefore, the decorative strip we prepared will also be attached to the ceiling. We make two corners from strips of sheet steel. These will be the fasteners. The width of the product should be 2 cm, length – 10 cm. Drill holes on the plates. We fix the corners to the bar with screws.
  • We carry out installation curtain rod. We mark a place on the ceiling for fasteners. We install the screws and put the corners on them, move the parts along the grooves, achieving the desired position. We fix the structure with self-tapping screws.

Cornice made of metal pipes

Simple but beautiful design - round cornice for curtains, making such a product with your own hands is quite simple. Consider an option made of metal elements. For work we will need: metal pipes and rods, plugs, clamps, hinges, an angle grinder, paint of the desired color. Let's start making the cornice:

  1. Preparing metal parts. We cut the pipes to the required length. We will need two parts. The first is 25 mm in diameter, the second is 19 mm.
  2. We make holders for the crossbar. To do this, we cut a 12-mm rod into three pieces 25 cm long. We make grooves for fastening on each part. The first is cut at a distance of 1.5 cm from the edge of the rod. It is designed for a 25mm diameter structure, so it must have an appropriate width. At a distance of about 8 cm from the first groove, we cut out the second. It will be smaller because it is designed for a pipe with a diameter of 19 cm. Grinding the surface holders with sandpaper, prime them and paint them. You can apply a layer of varnish on top.
  3. We make plugs. They are made from round wooden handles or removed from an old cornice. In the first case, we purchase round parts and use a sharp knife to cut holes in them for metal rods.
  4. We install the structure. We mark the mounting locations on the wall, and then drill holes for the holders. We fix the rods in these holes, if they are not held very tightly, fix them using putty. We lay the pipes on the holders and insert the plugs.

How to make a curtain rod with your own hands using metal pipes is now clear. However, there is an even simpler option - a design made of plastic pipe. To make it you will need plastic parts and special fasteners for plastic pipes. The latter are fixed to the wall and hold perfectly improvised cornice.

String system

Make a string DIY cornice simple enough. We carry out the work in the following sequence:

  • We make wall mounts. We take a metal sheet 2 mm thick and use a grinder to cut out two 60x240 strips from it. We sand the edges of the parts. Then we bend one edge at a right angle in one direction, the second in the other. The length of the fragment facing the wall should be about 70 mm, the section facing the eaves should be 35 mm. First we plan fold lines, then clamp the part in a vice and bend it with a heavy hammer. We drill holes for the screws. On the long platform we make three holes for the string, on the short platform - four for fasteners.
  • We install the cornice. We mark the places for fastening the structure on the wall, drill holes, and install fasteners. We take a thin wire or fishing line, thread it through the prepared holes and pull it tight. At the ends of the fishing line or wire we make small loops and thread sticks through them, which will fix tensioned structure.

A self-made string cornice may not seem aesthetically pleasing enough. Then the structure can be covered with a decorative strip. If you wish, you can make several planks of different designs and change them periodically.

Homemade design for Japanese curtains

Japanese curtains, consisting of several panels, resemble vertical blinds. Let's consider the option when you need to secure four such panels. We will need to purchase 4 plastic slats about 25-30 cm wide, a two-row plastic curtain rod of the required length, narrow curtain tape, Velcro tape and transparent Moment glue. Let's get started:

  1. We cut eight pieces of the required length from the rail. We immediately put four aside. We will use them to make weights for the lower part of the panels.
  2. We glue a rigid base of Velcro tape onto the front part of each of the remaining four elements, and a curtain braid with the thread removed for assembly on the back part. To prevent the braid cuts from falling off, pre-melt them on fire.
  3. We insert the guides into the cornice, two elements per rail. We install the structure in place.
  4. We prepare the panels by attaching the soft part of the Velcro tape to the top of the product, and attaching weights at the bottom. We fix the panels on the guides. Cornice for Japanese curtains ready for use with your own hands.

How to make a product special

Using wallpaper and paint, you can achieve a variety of decorative effects and make the most ordinary design original and beautiful. Such a hand-made cornice will harmonize perfectly with the decoration of the room. There can be many decor options. The simplest is to paint the product in the color of the walls or curtains. Interesting color effects can be obtained when applying paint with a rag swab or sponge. You can also use special adhesive paints of several colors.

The cornice can be decorated with stripes or left plain and individual elements painted: fleurons, brackets or rings. An original product will be obtained by covering the bar with wallpaper that matches the curtains. Drawing enthusiasts can cover the design hand painted. It is very important to choose the right paints. Vinyl or silk emulsions and water-based compositions are suitable for wooden cornices. For metal rods, it is best to use enamel, spray or special metal paint. The finished decor is varnished.

    THANK YOU so much for the very useful information in the article. Everything is presented very clearly. It feels like a lot of work has been done to analyze the operation of the eBay store

    • Thank you and other regular readers of my blog. Without you, I would not have been motivated enough to dedicate much time to maintaining this site. My brain is structured this way: I like to dig deep, systematize scattered data, try things that no one has done before or looked at from this angle. It’s a pity that our compatriots have no time for shopping on eBay because of the crisis in Russia. They buy from Aliexpress from China, since goods there are much cheaper (often at the expense of quality). But online auctions eBay, Amazon, ETSY will easily give the Chinese a head start in the range of branded items, vintage items, handmade items and various ethnic goods.

        What is valuable in your articles is your personal attitude and analysis of the topic. Don't give up this blog, I come here often. There should be a lot of us like that. Email me I recently received an email with an offer that they would teach me how to trade on Amazon and eBay. And I remembered your detailed articles about these trades. area I re-read everything again and concluded that the courses are a scam. I haven't bought anything on eBay yet. I am not from Russia, but from Kazakhstan (Almaty). But we also don’t need any extra expenses yet. I wish you good luck and stay safe in Asia.

  • It’s also nice that eBay’s attempts to Russify the interface for users from Russia and the CIS countries have begun to bear fruit. After all, the overwhelming majority of citizens of the countries of the former USSR do not have strong knowledge of foreign languages. No more than 5% of the population speak English. There are more among young people. Therefore, at least the interface is in Russian - this is a big help for online shopping on this trading platform. eBay did not follow the path of its Chinese counterpart Aliexpress, where a machine (very clumsy and incomprehensible, sometimes causing laughter) translation of product descriptions is performed. I hope that at a more advanced stage of development of artificial intelligence, high-quality machine translation from any language to any in a matter of seconds will become a reality. So far we have this (the profile of one of the sellers on eBay with a Russian interface, but an English description):
