How to frame a picture? The main task is not to distort or damage the canvas.

The first step is to turn the frame face down and place the canvas on it. If the frame already has a loop for attaching to the wall, then you need to pay attention so that after fixing the picture it is in the upper part. Step two - using a thin craft spatula, attach the canvas in the gaps between the stretcher and the frame. Check the quality of the tension and secure with staples from a construction stapler. Between the canvas stretched over a stretcher and the frame, thin wooden planks can be inserted into the gaps.

How to hang a picture on the wall?

You can buy a ready-made base, turn it with its back side, bend the metal fastening plates, take out the glass and cardboard backdrop. Assemble everything into a single structure in the reverse order: place the canvas on the glass, cover it with cardboard and bend the plates.

Fastening the canvas with tapes

Take a cotton ribbon, 3 cm wide, and cut it into pieces 7 cm long. If it is not possible to purchase a ribbon, scraps of thick, lint-free fabric or a regular plastic bottle, cut according to a template, will do.

Features and nuances of self-design

The canvas is evenly distributed over the stretcher.

You definitely need to look at which side it is placed on; almost all stretchers have bulges or the edges are slightly beveled inward - this is the back side of the structure. Bulges or bevels prevent the painting from fitting tightly to the stretcher.

You cannot fasten with both nails and staples at the same time; you need to choose one or the other.

First, they nail it along the edges of the central part of the canvas and you need to monitor the tension so that the stretcher does not move. Afterwards, gradually and slightly stretching the canvas, it is evenly fixed on all sides. There should be no waves formed along the edge of the canvas, and if there are, everything needs to be redone.

There are rules for stretching paintings that apply regardless of the type of frame or skill level of the framer:

• The canvas should not be wet.
• If it is clean, then prime it only after stretching.
• The subframe is laid on a flat horizontal surface.
• For a large painting, you will need a cross made of slats.
• The threads of the canvas should be parallel to the slats.
• It is better to place small squares of fabric under the nails; this will prevent the threads from being pulled out if the fabric is attached.
• As a result, the picture should be stretched like a membrane on a drum.
