Painting doors is a procedure that is performed due to various circumstances. But you need to keep in mind that this event can be quite difficult. You should be especially careful when painting interior structures that are not made of natural wood. There are many nuances that lead to the fact that the desired result does not occur. Therefore, you should study and follow certain rules developed for independent work.

The paint for interior doors is selected with special care. It is necessary to understand that you first need to find out what kind of coating the parts to be painted have. If the material of the canvases is wood or MDF, the following compositions are used:

  • Nitro enamels. Many craftsmen rightly consider nitro enamels to be the best paint materials that exist today. Their arguments are based on the fact that the resulting surface has many positive qualities. So, it is durable and is not afraid of various impacts. This substance is easy to work with. Indeed, the advantages seem undeniable, but we must not forget that nitro enamels have a very pungent odor, which disappears within 2-3 days, provided that constant ventilation is established. Therefore, it is immediately worthwhile to provide for the preparation of a separate room or the presence of a hood for carrying out such work.

Nitro enamels allow you to create a durable coating, but have a very unpleasant odor
  • Alkyd enamels. Opponents of the previous option are inclined to believe that you should not overpay for materials, so you need to pay attention to alkyd enamel. The fact is that this composition is much cheaper than nitro enamel, but has similar qualities. Yes, that's true. However, in addition to the positive properties, such enamels also adopted negative aspects. They take a very long time to dry and have a specific smell.

The main advantage of alkyd enamel is its low cost.
  • Acrylic enamels. There are far fewer supporters of acrylic enamel. Although this is only explained by the more complex process of its application. After all, the peculiarity of this material is that it needs additional protection. For this, varnish is used, which is applied in several layers. In fact, the absence of odor and complete environmental friendliness make this composition ideal for work at home.

Acrylic enamel is odorless, but needs additional protection
  • Colored varnishes. Colored varnishes on wood are used less often. The fact is that they are designed to cover natural wood and veneer. Although they can be used to work even with fiberboard, the effect is not very impressive.

Colored wood varnishes allow you to create an impressive decorative coating

Particular attention is paid to compositions when the question arises of how to properly paint a laminated door? It must be taken into account that laminate has very low stability. In general, it is very difficult to paint such doors; all work must be done with the utmost care and painstaking care.

All the compositions described above can be used for work, but with one condition. It consists in the fact that the surface must be completely cleaned of the old coating, but in such a way as not to damage the base. Next, impregnation with antiseptics and primer is carried out. To create a new layer, it is recommended to use stain, which is covered with a protective layer of varnish. If you want to use paint, then the primer is applied in several layers. Of course, what paint to paint the doors with is up to everyone to decide for themselves, based on the requirements of the interior.

Preparation rules

Interior doors for painting require careful preparation. It should be noted that in order to obtain the most desirable and visually beautiful coating, all work must be carried out with the condition that the canvas will be removed. That is, the process should be carried out in a convenient place, on a horizontal plane. This will provide the most complete access to all parts of the structure, and will also allow the compositions to be applied so that a uniform surface is obtained.

Do-it-yourself preparation of interior doors occurs in several stages:

You can start painting the doors only after all the preparation steps have been completed. It is worth noting that many are negligent in such an important event as dust removal. You need to understand that the smallest particles will cause the paint to roll off and also lose its appearance.

Removing dust followed by priming the surface is an important stage of preparatory work.

Note! Door paint is purchased only from trusted and reliable stores. The label must contain information that indicates for which work this composition is suitable, as well as preparation instructions.

Choosing a paint application tool

How to paint interior doors correctly? This issue requires very careful consideration. It is impossible to obtain a coating that will have an excellent visual effect if the technology is performed incorrectly. It is assumed that the application of paint (varnish) can be carried out manually or mechanically.

Of course, with some care and patience, you can complete the process quite well with a brush. It is necessary to understand that natural materials are the easiest to process.

Painting technology

How to paint an interior door with your own hands? The work itself is not difficult. But it is important to follow the sequence of applying each layer. The procedure is performed as follows:

  • The surface is carefully checked. It must be prepared in compliance with all the nuances.
  • The composition is prepared according to the instructions.
  • The first layer is applied using the selected tool.

Using a foam roller when painting doors is not recommended

Note! It is unacceptable to use a foam roller. The fact is that this material is destroyed under the influence of nitro enamels. In other cases, it promotes the appearance of bubbles, which makes it difficult to obtain a high-quality coating.

  • The applied layer of paint must dry well.
  • The coating is treated with abrasive. Zero grade sandpaper is suitable for this. It is convenient to use a grinder with a special attachment. But if you don’t have the proper experience, then you skip this stage at home.
  • Painted areas are wiped well with alcohol. It is important to remove the resulting dust.
  • The next layer is applied. It also needs to dry.
  • The surface is polished.

After all the manipulations, the interior door takes on the desired appearance. To protect it, varnish is applied. Of course, this composition can be used as an independent element. It is applied in the same way as paint, but the number of layers is increased. It is important to do thorough sanding between coats to achieve the desired effect.

How can you paint a door? The question sometimes seems very difficult. This is true. But if you follow the existing rules, you will get a coating that will please the eye for a long time.

When installing new wooden doors in a bathhouse, you should immediately take care to protect them from negative influences. Steam, high temperature, and drafts from ventilation contribute to the deterioration of wood, its deformation and loss of visual appeal. Painting the doors will help you avoid this - a simple and effective method. The most important thing is to choose the right paint and apply it correctly.

Paint and varnish products are classified as follows:

  • by type – varnishes, paints and impregnations (oil, wax, stains, penetrating and film-forming);
  • by chemical composition - organic and water based;
  • by method of application - internal, external and combined;
  • in terms of protective effects - from temperature and humidity fluctuations, from mechanical damage, from chemical and organic irritants.

In addition, all coatings are divided into transparent and opaque. The first includes varnishes, glazes and oil impregnations, the second - paints and enamels made on acrylic, alkyd, polyurethane and oil bases.

Type of wood processing compoundBasic properties
Suitable for painting interior and exterior doors, has high moisture resistance. Transparent, emphasizes the structure of the wood. Disadvantage: long drying time.
Safe for health, suitable for any wood, quick-drying. Provides high protection against ultraviolet radiation, gives the surface increased resistance to dirt and moisture.
The most harmless to health, non-flammable, used indoors. Not suitable for external doors. Preserves the natural texture of wood and its original color.
Easy to apply, penetrates the wood well, gives the wood a darker shade. Used for treatment before painting.
Penetrates deeply into wood, perfectly protects against moisture, fungus and dirt. Gives additional strength and a pleasant shine to the surface.
It is used for external and internal surfaces, creating a durable, dense coating with water-repellent properties. Has high hiding power with a glossy or matte effect.
It is easy to apply, has low hiding power, thanks to which it preserves the texture of the wood. It has high breathability, so it allows the wood to “breathe”.

Opaque paint for bath doors is used less often, since the natural grain of the wood fits more harmoniously into the interior. Traditionally, the interior decoration of a bathhouse is made of wood, which is why doors with a pronounced texture look better.

But if tiles are used to decorate the walls, you can make the doors plain by choosing the appropriate color.

When using paint, pre-treatment of the surface with antiseptic impregnation and fire retardant is required if the door is in a steam room. It is advisable to choose all products from one manufacturer, this will improve their interaction and make the coating better.

The optimal choice for bath doors are alkyd-based varnishes and paints, the main advantage of which is considered to be resistance to temperature fluctuations and water resistance.

And one more thing: paint and varnish products should be purchased only in specialized stores where storage conditions are observed, especially temperature conditions.

How to paint new doors

Untreated wood absorbs moisture well, and if new doors are installed in a bathhouse without impregnation with protective compounds, they will very soon swell and stop closing tightly. Therefore, before installing the doors, they need to be properly prepared and painted. All work should be done indoors to prevent dust from getting on the paint.

Step 1. The door leaf without handles, hooks and loops is laid on a flat, stable surface. During the manufacturing process, the material was already amenable to grinding, but small roughness or protrusions could remain. Therefore, using a grinder or sandpaper, the doors are processed again on both sides and at the ends. Remove all uneven surfaces and wipe off dust.

Step 2. If paint is chosen for the doors, the canvas is first impregnated with a primer. The recesses are treated first, then the flat areas. Since the doors are in a horizontal position, drips do not form and absorption occurs more evenly.

Step 3. Allow the surface to dry completely and treat it a second time.

Step 4. Now you can paint. For a panel door, a roller is more suitable; for a paneled door, use a narrow brush. The paint should not be too thick; if so, thin it with solvent. You should not apply the paint in a thick layer, as this will only reduce the quality of the coating. Depending on the coverage, you may need from 2 to 4 layers of paint, each of which must dry completely before applying the next.

Step 5. While the door dries, paint the opening. You cannot leave it untreated for the same reason as doors; besides, a painted door in an unpainted opening does not look very harmonious.

After the paint has dried, the hinges, handle, and hook are screwed onto the door and installed in the opening.

If stain is chosen for the door, no primer is used. The stain penetrates deeply into the wood, coloring the fibers and increasing the protective properties of the material. There are several ways to apply stain, which give different results.

WayDescription
Trituration.This method requires a stain with a long drying time. Using a roller, apply the composition to the door leaf and rub it thoroughly with a foam swab or a piece of thick fabric. You need to rub with force, centimeter by centimeter, so that the liquid penetrates well into the pores of the wood. The painted surface has a very pronounced pattern.
Spraying.The stain is chosen in light colors and 2-4 layers are applied using a spray gun. This method of painting gives a less pronounced texture, but perfectly hides minor wood defects.
Regular application.Suitable for smooth surfaces. The stain is applied using a roller, resulting in the surface being painted evenly and without streaks.
Staining with a brush.The product is generously applied using a wide brush, first along the fibers, then across. Thanks to this method, the wood acquires a deeper and richer shade.

Advice. To avoid discrepancies in color, stain should be purchased in reserve and mixed well in the jar before use. Coloring pigments tend to settle to the bottom, as a result of which when painting doors, one part may differ in tone from the rest.

Using oil or wax impregnation

Treating doors with oil impregnation also has its secrets. If applied incorrectly, streaks and darker areas may appear on the surface. Before use, the impregnation must be stirred very well, and this must be done several times during the work process. Apply impregnation in any convenient way - roller, brush, spray or foam sponge. The number of layers depends on the porosity of the material.

So, take a little product and distribute it evenly over the surface from edge to edge. It is more convenient to do this according to the width of the door leaf. Next, the impregnation is thoroughly rubbed with a brush or rolled out with a roller, avoiding sagging. The surface dries in 8 to 12 hours, depending on the composition and air temperature. The second layer is applied no later than 24 hours later, otherwise it will not be able to absorb well and its protective properties will decrease.

Painting old doors

Old doors in a bathhouse can also be revived and made no less attractive than new ones. Although this process is more labor-intensive, anyone can handle it. For convenience, the door must be removed from its hinges and laid horizontally, but if for some reason it cannot be removed, you will have to work this way.

Step 1. The door leaf is removed from the hinges and laid on a flat surface. Unscrew handles, hinges, remove locks. If you can’t unscrew them, wrap them with tape or foil.

Step 2. Using an abrasive attachment, remove all layers of old paint to the base.

If there are putty areas, the putty is also completely cleaned off. There is another convenient way to remove paint: heat the top layer of the coating with a hair dryer until the paint begins to swell, and then scrape it off with a metal spatula.

Step 3. Sweep away pieces of paint and dust from the canvas, and then carefully sand the surface. In hard-to-reach places it is convenient to use sandpaper. After sanding there should be no rough areas, small irregularities or scratches.

Sanding the door leaf

Step 4. Carefully inspect the door from all sides, check the tightness of the connections, and, if necessary, strengthen the frame with metal corners and screws.

Step 5. The resulting recesses and cracks must be repaired with new putty. Putty can be used under alkyd paint in any color, but it will not show through anyway. If you plan to treat the surface with oil impregnation, wax or varnish, the shade of the putty should match the color of the door leaf.

Advice. If the wood has become very dark over time, you can bleach it a little: mix bleach with water in a ratio of 1:3 and moisten the surface generously. When it becomes lighter, the door is washed well with clean water and dried in air.

Sanding dried putty

Step 8. Use a damp cloth to wipe off dust from all sides. Next, cover the door with an even layer of primer. Instead of a regular primer, you can use an antiseptic impregnation. Joints and recesses need to be treated especially carefully.

Step 9 For painting you will need a thin brush and roller.

When the primer has dried, take a brush and first paint all the lintels, recesses, decorative overlays, and panels. Next, using a roller, smooth, wide areas are painted.

The paint is applied in a thin and even layer, carefully rubbed in one direction. The second layer can be applied no earlier than the first has dried. In this case, the top layer is always applied perpendicular to the bottom one, that is, if the first layer was applied along the width of the doors, then the second one must be done longitudinally. It is especially important to follow this rule when using a brush that leaves strokes.

Step 10. Leave the canvas to dry and begin painting the door frame in the opening. It’s exactly the same here: use a thin brush at the joints, and a roller on smooth areas.

If the door cannot be removed from its hinges, for convenience it is fixed with wooden wedges on both sides so that there is maximum access to all parts of the door. The wedges should be secured as firmly as possible, otherwise the blade may move during operation. All further actions are performed in the same way. When painting, be careful not to allow drips to form. Handles and hinges, and other fittings should also be cleaned of dirt, sanded, and lubricated for ease of movement.

When treating doors with stain, it should be taken into account that splashes that fall on clean wood leave dark spots that are visible through 2-3 layers of dye. Therefore, if you are painting a door that has not been removed from its hinges, it is recommended to apply the stain very carefully and from the bottom up. The roller or brush should not be dipped into the liquid too much to avoid drips. A canvas with streaks and dark spots looks sloppy even under a layer of varnish.

When using a water-based stain, wood fibers tend to straighten, causing the surface to become rough. Sanding with fine-grain sandpaper will help eliminate such a defect. After secondary treatment with stain, the canvas remains smooth.

Interior doors are an important interior element. They not only delimit space and protect rooms from noise, odors, drafts and dust, but also emphasize their specific style, adding completeness and transforming the atmosphere as a whole. Therefore, if interior doors have lost their original appearance over time, then they must be put in order. Otherwise, even the most luxurious renovation will look unpresentable against their background. And painting interior doors will help with this.

Compared to completely replacing the door leaf, this is an event that you can easily do with your own hands and is very inexpensive. And you can achieve just as good a result with it if you do everything correctly and give free rein to your imagination a little. So, how to paint interior doors, what is needed for this and what color to choose for them? We'll look into all this further.

Choosing a shade for an interior door

An interior is considered ideal when all its elements, including interior doors, are harmoniously matched to each other. Moreover, there is an important principle in design - all doors should preferably be identical in color scheme, which creates a single, holistic picture in the house.

But, since different rooms are often decorated in separate stylistic and color directions, then, at first glance, it can be difficult to immediately find the “golden mean” of the shade of interior doors. In these difficult cases, designers often focus on the color scheme of the main rooms of the home:

  • hallways;
  • halls;
  • living rooms.

And when this does not help, then the interior doors of all rooms outside (relative to the corridor) can be painted in one color, and from the inside of a separate room - in another. Also, to make the task easier, when choosing the tone of interior doors, designers advise paying attention to many details directly in each room:

  • walls;
  • ceiling;
  • floors;
  • baseboards;
  • furniture;
  • decorative items, including textiles.

For example, if the floors match the color and texture of wood, then they can be painted in identical shades. In general, it is believed that natural wood colors are a universal solution for interior doors, since in this case they fit perfectly into almost any design, in perfect harmony with the floor, furniture, and decorative items.

For people who prefer bold decisions and originality, the color of such products can be selected to match the design of the walls. In this case, it is better to make the shade of the doors a tone higher or lower - this will allow them to be visually highlighted. As for light and dark variations, in the first case, interior doors will visually expand the rooms, creating a laconic, light atmosphere in them, and in the second, they will make the space more austere and restrained.

Selecting the type of coloring composition

All paints can be divided into transparent and pigmenting compositions. The first include varnishes, which are more suitable if wooden doors do not have serious defects and you plan to simply refresh them without changing color. But, since these interior elements are functional structures that are in constant use, due to this, noticeable chips, cracks and other flaws very often appear on them, spoiling the appearance.

Therefore, often for high-quality restoration of a door leaf, a simple coating of varnish is not enough. For these purposes, it is advisable to use pigmenting paints that can mask and eliminate more serious defects.

In addition to color, paints also differ in their composition. The choice of their type based on this parameter will directly depend on what the interior doors are made of. By paying attention to the table below, you can understand in which cases it is better to use one or another type of coating composition.

Material of which the interior door is made Recommended paint type
Array Completely wooden products can be painted with almost any paint. For example, all oil-based products and alkyd enamel have worked well in this case. These materials come in a wide range of colors and, once dry, form a durable, durable coating. They have practically no drawbacks, except for the strong smell that is felt in the room for 3-4 days after painting the canvases. When you do a DIY restoration of interior doors in a house where there are children, it is, of course, better to use acrylic enamel. It is odorless, non-toxic, and dries quickly. But its main drawback is its fragile and short-lived surface.
MDF It is advisable to paint MDF doors with compositions that simultaneously include tone and varnish (colored varnishes). Such paints help to preserve the texture of the material on such canvases and mask any existing defects.
Veneer It is highly not recommended to use nitro paints for veneered interior doors, since this composite material does not tolerate moisture. After applying such compositions, unsightly stains may form on them. It is better to paint veneer doors with polyurethane or glypthal compounds. They do not have a strong odor, so it is comfortable to work with them. As for the choice of color, according to this parameter they can be selected to suit every taste.
According to inherent characteristics Anti-corrosion, moisture-resistant, heat-protective, antiseptic.
By place of application Universal or separately for external and internal work.

Whatever paint is chosen, in any case it should be intended for interior work. Moreover, if there is strong moisture in the room where the interior door is located (kitchen, bathroom), then the compositions are certainly selected with moisture-resistant qualities.

Dyeing technology

In addition to purchasing paint, to restore interior doors you will need to prepare tools and additional building materials such as:

  • sandpaper of medium and fine grain;
  • wood putty;
  • solution for removing old coating (20% technical carbolic acid, caustic potassium or sodium);
  • sponge;
  • spatula;
  • cotton swabs;
  • primer;
  • construction tape;
  • flat brushes of various widths;
  • roller;
  • paint container;
  • ladder;
  • screwdriver

After this, you can begin preparatory work so that the door is suitable for paint. This stage consists of the following steps:

After completing the preparatory work, the door leaf should be completely ready for painting. This process itself includes the following steps:

Finally, it should be noted that painting interior doors with your own hands should be done in rooms with closed windows, where there are no drafts and dust. If everything is done as described above, the doors in the house will look like new again. At the same time, their owner will not spend a lot of money either on craftsmen or on the paint itself, because the cost of these compositions of any type is now affordable to everyone.

When renovating a house or apartment, you should think about restoring old doors. This is especially true for wooden products that are made from solid solid wood. But if the interior doors are made of fiberboard or MDF, they can also be repainted in a different color or varnished.

Types of paints for doors, which one to choose

A large selection of paint and varnish coatings offered in stores will help transform an old door. They can be transparent or not, with the addition of special pigments that reveal the structure of the wood, alkyd, oil-based, or water-based.

Alkyd paint is one of the most common paint coatings. It is inexpensive, creates a durable coating, is suitable for fiberboard, MDF and wood, and offers a wide range of shades, so you can choose the color you need. When deciding to repaint an interior door with alkyd paint yourself, you should keep in mind the strong spread of a specific odor. Therefore, work should be carried out outdoors or in a utility room. If this is not possible, then you need to make sure that family members stay with relatives for a day or two. It will take 48 hours for the smell to completely disappear.

Acrylic paint is also a good option for doors made of fiberboard, MDF and wood. Its main advantage is the almost complete absence of odor, which allows you to carry out work directly in the apartment. If you prefer acrylic paint, you can also choose any color from a fairly large palette. Its disadvantages include the fact that the durability of the coating is not high, so after painting, interior doors need to be coated with a clear varnish.

An oil-based tinting composition is well suited for a wooden entrance or interior door. It is absorbed into the fibers, has no odor and gives the material the desired color.

Nitro paint and nitro varnish are characterized by the highest surface strength, but they cause a strong toxic odor. When working with them, personal protective equipment is used.

Having decided on the type of paint, you need to choose its color. The easiest way to do this is to use the catalog provided by the manufacturer. It is worth keeping in mind that the shade of a wooden door will depend on the number of layers of paint.

When deciding which color and shade of coating to choose, the owners of the room are guided primarily by personal preferences. But there are general recommendations to help you make a decision.

Wooden doors will look good in a wooden house, so in such a situation you need to know how to paint a door like wood with your own hands to reveal the structure of the wood.

The color of the door should match the furniture in the room. In a room with light-colored furniture, light-colored doors will look good. If the bedroom set has a dark glossy surface, then the interior door must be painted in the appropriate color and varnished. If you have antique furniture, then artificially aged doors will suit it.

Preparing the canvas for painting

Before you repaint the door leaf, it needs to be prepared so that the door has a beautiful appearance and looks like new. In this case, you need to take into account the material from which it is made. Some nuances of pre-processing depend on it.

Do-it-yourself preparation includes the following steps.

  1. Removing the door leaf from the hinges.
  2. Dismantling fittings and glass, if any.
  3. Removing old coating.
  4. Puttying chips and cracks with a special product.
  5. Grinding.
  6. Cleaning the canvas from dust.

To prevent the formation of smudges, the door leaf must be placed in a horizontal position. This is why it is dismantled. If it is not possible to remove the fittings and take out the glass, then they need to be sealed with masking tape.

Canvas made of fiberboard and MDF, unlike wood, has a thin coating, so processing it, cleaning it from old paint and puttingty it yourself must be done carefully.

Tools for work

To prepare, paint and varnish a wooden door with your own hands, as well as fiberboard and MDF panels, you need the following tools:

  • emery cloth;
  • spatula;
  • brush;
  • roller;
  • paint tray;
  • personal odor protection products.

Door painting: all the nuances

The procedure for painting a door is as follows: first, paint the panels with a brush, then the protruding parts, and at the very end, go over the canvas with a roller. When working, make sure that the room is well ventilated - this will save you from the smell if you use alkyd or nitro paint.

The room in which the work will be carried out must be clean and not dusty. The settling of dust and debris on the painted surface will spoil the appearance of doors made of wood, fiberboard, MDF or other materials.

When deciding to repaint a laminated interior door, you need to keep in mind that the adhesion of its surface to the paint is practically absent. Therefore, before you start painting, you need to go over the entire surface of the canvas with fine sandpaper with your own hands, and then wipe it with a cloth soaked in white spirit. Such actions will help remove the protective coating, increase adhesion and allow you to successfully restore the laminated door. After the paint has dried, the canvas can be varnished.

Painting a veneered interior door with your own hands is more difficult than any other. This is due to the fact that the thickness of the veneer is very small. Therefore, in case of minor deformations or scratches, you can simply coat the surface with varnish. If you need to completely change their color, it is recommended to use water-based paints. Before painting, the surface is treated with a special primer that hides scratches. It is not recommended to use nitro paints; they can contribute to the formation of dull spots.

An interior door veneered with artificial material can also be painted. But to do this you need to choose a paint that will not roll off a smooth surface. It is not recommended to prime such doors, since the natural effect is lost.

A newly painted and varnished door made of wood, fiberboard, MDF or other material can be placed in the opening by returning the fittings and glass. She will delight you with her appearance for many years.

If you decide to paint a wooden door yourself, then you can easily do it if you have the necessary tools. They must be selected depending on what material the door is made of and the damage present on it.

Wooden door that was previously painted

When the door is made entirely of wood, without the addition of veneer, MDF and cardboard, then painting wooden doors in this case is the simplest option and can be safely done with your own hands.

In this case, the painting process will consist of the following steps:

  1. First, you need to carefully examine the door, and if you find any visible defects on it (paint peeling, chips, etc.), you should first prepare the door leaf. This operation can be performed both with the door installed and with the door removed from its hinges. To make it more convenient, you should remove the handle from the door before starting work.
  2. After this, you will need to use a spatula to remove any paint particles that have begun to peel off, after which you should go over the door with sandpaper to remove smaller peelings. Then you need to use wood putty to eliminate all the holes that are on the door leaf. The layer of putty applied should not be more than 1 mm, and if the defect is deep, it is necessary to apply the putty in several layers. Each subsequent layer can be applied only after the previous one has completely dried. When the putty dries, it must be sanded.
  3. When the prepared door leaf is ready, it needs to be primed (the primer should be made by the same company as the paint that will then be used to paint the door) and covered with a layer of paint. To avoid smudges, it is better to use a spray gun or roller rather than a brush.

Door with veneer

Painting wooden doors that have a layer of veneer yourself is very similar to painting an ordinary wooden door.

However, you need to remember one exception. Quite often, the veneer at the bottom of such doors may partially peel off during use. Therefore, to begin with, it should be very carefully, without breaking, separated from the entire surface of the door, then coat the underside of the veneer and the door leaf with a special glue intended for wood, and clamp it well with clamps. You can also lay pieces of plywood or boards on top to ensure that the veneer fits evenly and tightly. These operations must be performed with the door removed and laid horizontally.

When the glue is completely dry, you can begin painting the door, for which it is best to use Pinotex wood-protective and tinting compounds.

In order to obtain the required color, it is necessary to paint the door leaf several times, but remember that each subsequent layer of paint can be applied only after the previous one has dried.

The paint can be applied with a roller or brush. In order to give the surface of the door shine, it is necessary to cover it with a layer of varnish.

Wooden door made of bars

The painting process will be slightly different if you need to process the door from the bars yourself. Such doors should not only be painted, but also be covered with two or three layers of varnish, sanding each layer of varnish before applying the previous one. This technology will help you end up with an even layer of varnish, despite the fact that the door itself was a little spotty, as it was assembled from separate bars that have different porosity and, as a result, different absorbency of the paint composition.
