Features of designing houses with a swimming pool

The layout of a house with a swimming pool usually includes showers, changing rooms, and a sauna in the immediate vicinity. To make a decision on building such a house, you need to conduct an assessment land plot and groundwater levels. Further, the plan for a house with a swimming pool provides for equipping the bowl, waterproofing it, organizing a system of pumps, cleaning filters, and heating the water. The room requires heating, lighting, and high-quality ventilation.

Alfaplan studio specialists have developed more than a dozen projects for houses with swimming pools made from different materials in the most current architectural styles. Everything in them is carefully worked out technological aspects taking into account the requirements of legislation, GOSTs, and sanitary regulations. By purchasing a project from our company, you will not have to worry about the safety of your home and the health of your loved ones.

The popularity of green roofs is growing incredibly quickly. Experts even predict a construction boom, because any fantasy can be realized on it - creating gardens with fountains, arranging spa areas and much more.

A rooftop pool is undoubtedly a stylish design solution. More and more homeowners, regardless of additional questions, strive to arrange their home in this way, especially in suburban construction. Even a modest swimming pool on the roof of a house, built on the roof of a private mansion, radically changes the life of the owners for the better. By installing sunbeds and awnings you can enjoy beach holiday, practically without leaving home.

The construction of rooftop pools allows you to:

  • save land space;
  • save energy costs, since in this case part of the water is used for heating solar energy;
  • organize original holiday;
  • increase the potential value of a house and land, and more.

Of course, the design of a house with a rooftop pool requires careful consideration. It is necessary to take into account not only technical, but also sanitary standards. Correct calculation required load-bearing structure home, which will guarantee its resistance to heavy loads. The system for supplying and discharging water must be thought out to the smallest detail, lifting to the roof, etc. must be provided, which will ensure the functionality and safety of operation of the structure. You should also take care of installing a filter, disinfecting water, and assembling electrical units.

On a note

Today it is not so uncommon to have an apartment with a swimming pool on the roof of a high-rise building. This is how the owners of premises on the top floor make their dreams of a great holiday come true. Of course, for this you must first obtain permission from the relevant organizations.

What could a rooftop pool look like?

A rooftop pool can be built of almost any design. The only thing that is important to consider is the possible increased load that it puts on supporting system and base. A swimming pool on the roof of a private house is especially dangerous in this sense.

There are several options for making a rooftop pool:

  • seasonal. This is an open type design that is used in warm time.
  • indoor swimming pool with glass wall and roof. Particularly popular is the sliding roof for a pool made of polycarbonate, which works on the principle of a wardrobe. This option is undoubtedly more expensive, but it can be used in any weather conditions.

  • The indoor version is more practical to use. It is only partially closed. The canopy does not interfere with enjoying the delights of water recreation in the summer and protects against water pollution by debris and sediment.

Design

In accordance with design features The rooftop pool can be:

  • stationary;
  • frame;
  • inflatable.

Each type has its own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages.

cross-sectional pool design

Stationary

This type of swimming bowl is comparatively less common on the roof. The design of the pool in this case, in turn, is:

  • built-in;
  • superficial.

Let's look at each of them separately.

  • Built-in. The depth of the bowl may vary depending on the available space inside the house. They are built from monolithic concrete, foam blocks or bricks. In this case, they are used waterproofing materials and insulation. It should be noted that, as a rule, these materials are needed in large quantities. That is, such structures are distinguished by a rather large mass. The design of pools of this type is carried out taking into account all the necessary parameters and precise calculation the required amount of materials.
  • Superficial. They are built on the roof plane, raising the structure to the required height.

Stationary swimming bowls are different:

  • Durability. The structure is built only once. It is periodically cleaned and the bowl is filled with water.
  • Reliability. The maintenance-free service life is quite long, especially if they are properly equipped and finished.
  • Practicality. The design is easy to maintain. Closer to autumn, the water is drained and the bowl is insulated for the winter.

In stationary structures closed type Ventilation passages must be thought out. Otherwise, the heated air will create some discomfort for people in the pool.

How to make a swimming pool in a stationary private house: useful recommendations

One of important points installation involves laying pipes through which water is supplied and drained. Special attention requires sealing of pipe connections and areas at risk of flooding of the structure.

  • Initially, the depth is chosen, and in accordance with it, the stairs necessary to descend into and out of the water are built.
  • When choosing a finish, preference is given to more practical materials that are characterized by

  • The built-in bowl is qualitatively insulated using special materials. It could be:
  • roofing felt;
  • film;
  • sealant and so on.
  • Pipes connected to the bowl are checked for leaks. If they pass along the roof surface, they must be insulated to prevent freezing of the line. Otherwise, the pipes will have to be replaced.
  • It is recommended to use plastic pipes in the system. The diameter is selected in accordance with their purpose:
  • Waste – 80–100 mm;
  • Feeders – 50–60 mm
  • The best option The walls of the bowl are considered to be made of a monolith. The formwork is filled with a concrete solution, which is reinforced with a mesh of metal reinforcement.

Attention

It is necessary to take preventive measures to block the path of excess water onto the roof and not flood the house. For this purpose, drain pipes are laid along the walls at a calculated angle, through which water from the roof is discharged directly into the pit.

  • As a safety measure, a fence must be installed on the roof.

The same applies to the construction of structures of the second, surface type.

Frame pool

This design consists of

  • metal frame made of metal;
  • elastic bowl;
  • various additional elements, say, fortifications, stairs or others.

These designs:

  • Practical. They do not require regular repairs or restoration work. Both the material of the bowl, its coating, and the frame are durable.
  • Easy to install. They can be easily and fairly quickly installed, and, if necessary, dismantled.
  • Versatile. Suitable for installation both on the roof and on another convenient area.
  • Durable. The minimum service life is about ten years and even more if the metal frame has a high-quality coating.

On a note

For the manufacture of a metal frame, as a rule, it is used stainless steel.

  • Economical. When settling in frame structure no financial investment is required for the construction of foundations and walls. All that is needed are pipes through which water is supplied and drained, as well as drain holes.

General requirements for the installation of a frame swimming bowl and the recommendations practically do not differ from the conditions for the construction of a stationary structure.

Installation of a frame swimming bowl

Many people are interested in whether it is possible to make a swimming pool with your own hands. Of course. Let's note a few important points.

Installation is carried out by at least two people, since the side of the bowl is quite heavy. No special tools or equipment are needed for assembly: just a knife, a level and a screwdriver.

  • Having unfolded the sheet, it is inserted into the guides along the bottom;
  • connecting element along the top of the frame and the bolts are taped;
  1. secure the hoses with clamps,
  2. assemble and install a skimmer - this is a device that collects water for the filtration system,
  3. hoses are connected to the filter,
  4. a hole is cut in the film according to the size of the skimmer,
  5. install a cleaning filter,
  6. connect equipment;
  • After filling the bowl with water, chemicals are dosed to disinfect the water.

Inflatable bowls

If the area of the site is small or the level is high groundwater, a small swimming pool with approximately 10 cubic meters of water and a size of 2 by 4 m can be placed on the roof of a garage, terrace or bathhouse. This “air” pool has many advantages: it is easier and cheaper to implement than the earthen version, the water in the air pool is less clogged with debris, is not shaded, and is quickly heated by the sun’s rays.

The pool bath is made of 4-6 mm sheet steel using welding, reliably protecting the metal from corrosion and carefully painting it. You can also make a bath from polymer materials.

The walls of the air pool are clearly visible from the outside and are easy to repair if necessary. To inspect and repair the bottom under the pool, a retractable tray is installed on small beams with a slope, which, if desired, can be covered with a decorative removable ceiling.

You don't need a soak pit to drain water from your rooftop pool. The drained water can be used for irrigation and showering, or poured in small portions into any suitable ditch.

On the roof, in addition to the pool, it makes sense to make a solarium with a trestle bed, a sun lounger, a table, and, if possible, arrange an exit from the bedrooms on the second floor.

But, of course, a rooftop pool creates a large additional load on the building itself (approximately 15 tons), and it is with this in mind that all structures must be thought out and calculated. For example, you can use old railway rails as beams

Roof pool cladding

1. Waterproofing membranes

The most appropriate method of waterproofing a pool bowl is to apply two layers of two-component plaster cement composition Mapelastic, which after drying becomes an elastic membrane that can withstand positive and negative water pressure. To increase the effectiveness of Mapelastic, it is recommended to use Mapenet 150 alkali-resistant mesh together with it. Elastic tape Mapeband allows you to waterproof corners.

Tiles are one of the most common and durable materials lining of swimming pools, however, it must have certain waterproof properties, so you should use only tiles specifically designed for swimming pools.

It is laid on two-component white cement adhesive Mapei Keracrete (Keracrete).

A separate issue is natural stone (marble). Marble has many types, and among them there are those that can be used in swimming pools, subject to implementation special processing, which will ensure operational durability in the pool. In particular, Fila MP/90 impregnation produced by the Italian company Fila Chimica is applied to the marble slabs in the pool before filling it with water.

The marble is laid using two-component white quick-setting adhesive Mapei Granirapid.

3. Mosaic

As with tiles, mosaics can be made from various materials(ceramics, glass, natural stone), but the most unpretentious is glass mosaic. The main difference and advantage of mosaics is the ability to cover complex rounded structural elements, as well as the ability to create exclusive drawings and images. There are also negative aspects, due to the small area of the mosaic elements, the effectiveness of adhesion adhesive composition must be higher than the tiles, otherwise the mosaic may have local peeling.

The mosaic is laid using white cement adhesive Adesilex P10 with the addition of Isolastic.

Joint filler materials for tiles and mosaics.

It should be remembered that the joint material (grout) is part of work surface cladding, which is subject to the same influences as the cladding material. Destruction of the joint filler material leads to detachment of the slabs and damage to the waterproofing layer.

For grouting joints of tiles and mosaics with a width of 2 to 20 mm, the quick-setting joint filler Ultracolor Plus (Ultracolor Plus) is used, which does not contain Portland cement, has increased Drop Effect hydrophobicity and a BioBlock antifungal barrier. When used in a swimming pool sea water Kerapoxy or Kerapoxy Design epoxy sealants must be used.

Regardless of the performance and other indicators that mixtures for waterproofing pools have, the basis for a high-quality result is compliance with the rules and recommendations for the use and care of the treated surface. Coating waterproofing for swimming pools is a combination various elements, who, entering into chemical reaction With environment, fill cracks and form a durable water-repellent layer. Therefore, the application of a material such as two-component waterproofing for swimming pools requires ensuring the necessary time, temperature and other conditions.

The lifespan of your pool, as well as the safety of the pool structure from the harmful effects of water, depends on how well the waterproofing of your pool is done. At the stage of waterproofing the bowl, there can be no trifles on which you can save. Do not forget that repairing damage that occurred as a result of unscrupulous waterproofing work will cost you many times more than high-quality waterproofing of the pool during its construction.

A number of main difficulties that arise when using a pool on the roof of a cottage

Structural deformation

The huge amount of water in the pool puts great pressure on the supporting structures of the house - gradual deformation of the pool walls and the appearance of minor cracks, which over time can lead to complete failure of the structure.

Falling water level

Cracks in engineering inputs pipes and cables, bottom and walls, in concreting joints can lead to a decrease in the water level in the pool and roof leakage, the so-called penetration of liquid through defective areas of the structure.

How to make a pool bowl leak-proof

Modern waterproofing materials are your first assistant in the difficult struggle to waterproof your pool. There are a number of basic methods to achieve complete sealing. For convenience, we will consider three main types:

Waterproofing the pool bowl using cement-based materials

This type of waterproofing involves the manufacture of both the pool itself and the waterproofing material for it on the same basis. This type of waterproofing is the cheapest and most durable. Waterproofing a concrete pool with your own hands is a rather risky step; you need to soberly calculate your strength before starting this process

Waterproofing the pool bowl using polymer materials

This type of waterproofing involves making a pool bowl from a polyethylene-type polymer. Despite its apparent simplicity and reliability, it has a significant drawback - intolerance to mechanical damage. This type of waterproofing traditionally includes plastic waterproofing. Or the pool from plastic bath. Roughly speaking, deformation of the structure of such a pool under water pressure will lead to its complete decommissioning.

Making a stainless steel pool bowl

Many people use a single-piece pool bowl for installation on the roof, made of stainless steel. This saves you from concreting both the bowl itself and the pool. But this method there are two significant drawbacks: firstly, it is too expensive, and secondly, corrosive processes will eventually destroy even the highest quality steel.

Let's look at sealing the most common rooftop pools - concrete and all-metal, with examples of the use of the necessary materials

1. Waterproofing a reinforced concrete pool

To cast a concrete pool, a material with special admixtures is used, which can significantly increase not only the service life and degree of adhesion of the pool bowl, but also significantly increase its strength and water resistance. After which the bowl is sanded over a cellular metal mesh (the so-called “plaster mesh”) using special repair solutions on a waterproof basis. At the same stage, a cement-latex film is created for waterproofing the pool with microfiber, due to which the resistance to cracks in the plaster, its water resistance and elasticity, as well as adhesion increases.

The next stage is to apply a special mixture for waterproofing them, made up of cement and polymers, to the already prepared bottom and walls of the bowl. Additional coatings used to waterproof pool walls include mastic and penetrating insulation. Moreover, the use of the first makes it possible to increase the reliability of waterproofing under positive water pressure. In turn, penetrating coating insulation makes it possible to increase reliability when negative impact water and reduce to almost zero the possibility of groundwater entering the bowl of an in-ground pool. This type of insulation is called double-sided waterproofing for a pool.

Waterproofing a pool under tiles also has its own nuances. During installation work, adhesives with the addition of latex are used, which makes them waterproof, or two-component quick-drying adhesives. When sealing seams and joints, it is customary to use grout with the addition of cement-based latex or epoxy composition with high water resistance.

2.Waterproofing of an all-metal pool

When building such a pool, one of the main factors is the rigidity of the structure. In essence, an all-metal pool is nothing more than a steel cube, the coefficient of linear expansion of which is much higher than that of its cement counterparts, so the use of glue for facing works causes a number of specific difficulties that can be overcome in several different ways:

The tiles are laid on the surface of the pool using polyurethane adhesive, which is highly waterproof. Moreover, its application should be carried out both on the surface of the pool and on the tiles;

A steel mesh is attached to the surface of the pool, which must be treated with an adhesive liquid, after which the surface of the pool bowl is plastered around the perimeter of the welded steel mesh with a special plaster mortar with the addition of latex and a waterproof repair mortar, then microfiber is used to more completely waterproof the pool, which increases the water resistance of the plaster, its elasticity, resistance to cracking and adhesion.

Waterproofing of the pool bowl is carried out by applying an initial layer of mastic to the existing layer of plaster, then along the perimeter of a fiberglass mesh - a waterproofing material, the basis of which is polymers and cement. It is best to seal the seams with the same cement-based grout with the addition of latex or with a composition based on epoxy resins, which is also highly water-resistant. For laying tiles, a two-component quick adhesive or a composition with the addition of latex and providing high water resistance is suitable.

One of the best ways is to use liquid waterproofing swimming pool For example, “Blockade” waterproofing not only insulates the pool foundation from moisture, but also protects against small cracks, and significantly increases the strength of the walls of a reinforced concrete pool. Its use allows you to create a complete coating over the entire surface of the pool bowl without joints, and, therefore, significantly reduces the percentage of leakage, reducing it to zero. Waterproofing "Blockade" is an environmentally friendly product, which contains binder additives and a polymer compound that does not contain bitumen. One of the main advantages of this waterproofing is high speed polymerization, which is only two hours (full polymerization occurs within a day).

It is important that the waterproofing layer is good and preferably inexpensive, so preference is given to roofing felt. But in terms of its width, this material, like any other, will not provide a continuous coating, so the joints of the laid material are filled with bitumen mastic.

You can use an easier-to-use, but more expensive rolled waterproofing material - hydroisol. To get rid of joints, it needs to be heated with a burner and the bitumen included in its composition will melt, filling the crevices, and then when hardened it will create an impenetrable layer.

Undoubtedly, a continuous covering can only be done using self-leveling roofing, but this is a very expensive type of roof covering. Also to expensive coating include membrane roofing, but this roll covering, therefore, there will be joints in the coating. The only difference is the use of a hair dryer for melting.

An important component of pitchless roofs is good ventilation. It is necessary to remove excess moisture from the layers of the roofing “pie”. For this purpose, install special devices ventilation.

A rooftop pool is undoubtedly a stylish design solution. More and more homeowners, regardless of additional issues, are striving to equip their home in this way, especially in suburban construction. Even a modest swimming pool on the roof of a house, built on the roof of a private mansion, radically changes the life of the owners for the better. Pipes connected to the bowl are checked for leaks. If they pass along the roof surface, they must be insulated to prevent freezing of the line. Otherwise, the pipes will have to be replaced.
It is recommended to use plastic pipes in the system. The diameter is selected in accordance with their purpose:
Waste – 80–100 mm;
Feeders – 50–60 mm
The best option is the walls of the bowl made of a monolith.

As a safety measure, a fence must be installed on the roof.

The same applies to the construction of structures of the second, surface type.
Roof frame pool

This design consists of
metal frame made of metal;
elastic bowl;
various additional elements, say, fortifications, stairs or others.

These designs:
Practical. They do not require regular repairs or restoration work. Both the material of the bowl, its coating, and the frame are durable.
Easy to install. They can be easily and fairly quickly installed, and, if necessary, dismantled.

Versatile. Suitable for installation both on the roof and on another convenient area.
Durable. The minimum service life is about ten years and even more if the metal frame has a high-quality coating.

On a note

For the manufacture of a metal frame, stainless steel is usually used.
Economical. When arranging a frame structure, no financial investments are required for the construction of foundations and walls. All that is needed are pipes through which water is supplied and drained, as well as drain holes.

The general requirements for the installation of a frame swimming bowl and recommendations practically do not differ from the conditions for the construction of a stationary structure.

Installation of a frame swimming bowl on the roof

Many people are interested in whether it is possible to make a swimming pool with your own hands. Of course. Let's note a few important points.

Installation is carried out by at least two people, since the side of the bowl is quite heavy. No special tools or equipment are needed for assembly: just a knife, a level and a screwdriver.
Having unfolded the sheet, it is inserted into the guides along the bottom;
the connecting element along the top of the frame and the bolts are glued with tape;
the cup bag is made of elastic film, which is laid out on a thick lining and distributed as evenly as possible;
Having temporarily secured the film, pour a little water into the bowl and straighten out the folds that have formed at the bottom;
install and secure vertical racks walls, pull the film over the side, and then secure it;
install the top metal side and finally complete the process of connecting the bowl;
then the triska is installed in the hole cut in the film and secured;

The filtration system is installed in the following sequence:
secure the hoses with clamps,
assemble and install a skimmer - this is a device that collects water for the filtration system,
hoses are connected to the filter,
a hole is cut in the film according to the size of the skimmer,
install a cleaning filter,
connect equipment;
After filling the bowl with water, chemicals are dosed to disinfect the water.
Inflatable pool bowls on the roof

These structures, made of flexible polyethylene, are very durable. The inflatable bottom and soft walls are safe for children swimming in it. They are no less attractive for adults, especially since you can always choose a pool of the appropriate size: the bowl reaches 3 m in diameter with a depth of 50–120 cm. It is very practical: it can easily be placed on the roof, and just as easily removed.

However, working with polyethylene has its own characteristics. During the inflation process, it stretches and can become deformed when punctured or cut. Therefore, the pool is installed on a specially prepared platform, lined with sheets of foam or polyurethane. They are laid out tightly one to the other and securely fastened to each other using special glue and sealant, after which they are laid with roofing felt. Then lay a material that has a soft structure, for example, dense carpet.

You can fill the swimming bowl either from a hose or using available equipment. As for draining, it is recommended to use special equipment for it, say, pumps. Water will be discharged directly into the waste pit through pre-laid pipes of the calculated diameter. It is also advisable to provide drain holes on the roof for emergency situations to avoid flooding: in case of a break in the bowl or excess water.

On a note

A real breakthrough in this area has been glass pools, the water from which, as if by magic, “flows” into the sky.

Any owner of suburban real estate strives to improve the site so that it is multifunctional. In most cases, it all depends on its size. Quite often they are built, which become a place for a great pastime for both adults and children. If the site does not have sufficient area, then you can build a swimming pool on the roof of the house. Initially, it is worth understanding its types and functionality.

Example of a hotel rooftop pool

Note. If a person owns an apartment on top floor, then such a design can also be made on the roof of a high-rise building for excellent relaxation.

On this moment such structures can be open, closed and covered.

They differ in functionality. For example, the pool can be completely enclosed, allowing you to enjoy swimming at any time of the year. Outdoor swimming pools can only be used during warm months.
Important. Such structures will not be protected from debris and various precipitation entering the water. For this reason, they need to be cleaned regularly.

You can build any swimming pool on the roof of your house. If this a private house, then it is worth taking into account during its construction the possible loads on the base of the building and its supporting structures.

Ready project pool on the roof of the villa

An indoor pool is more practical in its use.

It is partially closed and can also be used in warm weather. There is no need to waste your energy cleaning it, since precipitation and debris will not get into it due to the canopy.

What type of pools can there be?

Eat different kinds pools by type of structure: stationary, collapsible, inflatable.

Each of them has its own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages.

Stationary pools on the roof of a house

It cannot be said that this type of structure is most often built on the roof of a house. It has its own properties and a fairly large mass. There is also a different depth, which depends on the free area inside the building.

These pools can be built-in or surface-mounted.

This is what a built-in pool looks like

The first type is mounted in a flat plane with a common platform, and the bowl of the structure is located inside the house. The second is built on the roof surface and has a certain height.

They are built from monolith, foam blocks and bricks. In this case they use a large number of insulating and insulating materials.

To make such a pool on the roof of a house, you must first draw up a design project, which takes into account all the parameters and calculates the required amount of materials.

The advantages of stationary pools include:

Interior decoration of the dressing room

If the pool is closed, then the room is heated, and the structure can be used all year round. Quite often, special metal canopies covered with polycarbonate are built over stationary pools. It has excellent light conductivity. Water under the influence sun rays will heat up.

Important. In such a design it is necessary to make ventilation passages. Otherwise, the heated air will create discomfort while in the pool.

Construction of a permanent pool

This type of roof structure requires especially proper arrangement. So, it is necessary to install water supply and drain pipes. The protection of the entire structure from flooding depends on the quality of sealing of their connections.

It is advisable for a stationary pool to make a separate drainage pit and a water supply pipe. Especially if the bowl has a large diameter.

Initially, the depth is selected. Based on it, stairs are built to make it easier to get into and out of the water. As for materials, they should be practical. Preference is given to:

  • Porcelain tiles;
  • Ceramics;
  • Glass mosaic.

These materials are durable and moisture resistant. Do not forget about the safety rules for arranging a swimming pool and the area around it.

Example of finishing a pool with ceramic mosaic

If the stationary pool is built-in, then it is necessary to make high-quality insulation of its bowl. For this purpose special devices are used:

  • Ruberoid in sheets;
  • Film;
  • Sealants and others.

The pipes are first carried to the pool and checked for leaks. Be sure to insulate them if they are mounted on the roof surface. This will prevent them from freezing in winter, otherwise they will need to be replaced.

To supply and drain water, it is best to use plastic pipes of a certain diameter:

  • For drains - 8–10 cm;
  • For water supply - 5-6 cm.

The walls of the structure are made of brick or foam block. Or you can make them monolithic. The last option will be optimal. Pre-construct formwork from wooden planks, into which it is poured concrete mortar with a mesh of reinforcement.

Similar actions are carried out for the construction of surface-type structures.

Important. It is also necessary to improve the area around the pool so that excess water does not enter the roof and cause flooding of the house.

    THANK YOU so much for the very useful information in the article. Everything is presented very clearly. It feels like a lot of work has been done to analyze the operation of the eBay store

    • Thank you and other regular readers of my blog. Without you, I would not be motivated enough to dedicate much time to maintaining this site. My brain is structured this way: I like to dig deep, systematize scattered data, try things that no one has done before or looked at from this angle. It’s a pity that our compatriots have no time for shopping on eBay because of the crisis in Russia. They buy from Aliexpress from China, since goods there are much cheaper (often at the expense of quality). But online auctions eBay, Amazon, ETSY will easily give the Chinese a head start in the range of branded items, vintage items, handmade items and various ethnic goods.

        What is valuable in your articles is your personal attitude and analysis of the topic. Don't give up this blog, I come here often. There should be a lot of us like that. Email me I recently received an email with an offer that they would teach me how to trade on Amazon and eBay.

  • And I remembered your detailed articles about these trades. area
    I re-read everything again and concluded that the courses are a scam. I haven't bought anything on eBay yet. I am not from Russia, but from Kazakhstan (Almaty). But we also don’t need any extra expenses yet.
